RICHARD BRADLEY COLEMAN
DURHAM - Richard Bradley Coleman died at his home on Saturday, April 24, 1999. Richard was born in Sacramento, California on September 3, 1936 to the late Frank Wallace Coleman and Erma Cordelia Bradley. When he was three, the family moved to Albany, California. Richard remained in the Bay Area until moving to Durham in June 1994.
He received his Bachelor of Sciences-Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 1959 and his Masters of Public Heath (Environmental Health Administration) from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965. He worked for the County of Sonoma, California as an Environmental Health Specialist from 1959 - 1980; for the University of California at Berkeley as Workers Compensation Coordinator from 1980 - 1983; for the University of California at Berkeley as Risk Manager from 1986 until his retirement in November 1993. In Durham, Richard worked as a Broker Associate at Fonville Morisey Real Estate.
Richard was a member of the Board of Realtors of Durham, NC; Oakland CA and Berkeley CA. He served on the Board of Directors for the Exchange Clubs Child Abuse Prevention Center in Durham and for the University of California at Berkeley Marching Band, as the President of the Duke Park Preservation Initiative, and was a member of the Friendship Reunion Group, the National Association of Sanitarians, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and the Registered Sanitarians of California and the Exchange Club of Durham.
Richard is survived by his friend and partner of 26 years, Daniel J. Long; two children, Colette Coleman Smallwood of Woodinville, Washington, Harriet Coleman Inglesby of Danville, California; sons-in-law, Peter Smallwood and Pat Inglesby; grandsons, Brett Inglesby and Spencer Smallwood; granddaughters, Caitlin Smallwood and Shannon Inglesby; a host of friends.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held Saturday, May 1, 1999 at his home.

EDYTHE HOLLOWAY GARRETT
RALEIGH - Edythe Holloway Garrett, formerly of Raleigh, died Monday in Richmond, Virginia where she has lived since late 1996.
Widow of Joe W. Garrett, Mrs. Garrett was a life-long member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years in the Primary Department. She was a member of the Livingston-Johnson Bible Class.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Garrett Ludden of Midlothian, VA; grandsons Brett, Jeff and Mark, and nieces Joanna Smith Mills and Melissa Smith Donnell of Raleigh.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Montlawn Memorial Park.

ASHLEY NICOLE HAMILTON
RALEIGH - Ashley Nicole Hamilton, 4, of Raleigh, died Monday, April 26, 1999. Ashley was enrolled in the White Memorial Weekday School.
Surviving: parents, Nancy Cates Hamilton and Lawrence Alan Hamilton; sister, Laci Lauren Hamilton; grandparents, Wayne and Nancy Cates of Greensboro, Rita and Oliver Hamilton of Virginia Beach, Va. Another grandmother, Shirley Hack Hamilton died in 1977.
The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Arthur Ross III officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. A visitation with family and friends will take place in the church parlor on Tuesday, 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.

HELEN T. HARRIS
CARY - Helen T. Harris, 76, of Cary, died Tuesday morning at Western Wake Medical Center.
Surviving: daughters, Rena Harris of Cary, Judy Gardener of South Hill, VA; grandchildren, Mike Gardner of South Hill, VA, Bill Gardner of Falls Church, VA.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Cary. Burial will be in Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

DOROTHY CREECH HOLT
THOUSAND OAKS, CA - Dorothy Creech Holt, a native of Smithfield, NC, passed away April 25, 1999 at her home in Thousand Oaks, CA at the age of 82. She was blessed with a loving husband, Edwin G. Holt, and son, Edwin C. Holt, also of Thousand Oaks.
Mrs. Holt was born in Smithfield, North Carolina to James Rufus Creech and Rachel Creech. She graduated from UNC-Greensboro, was married after graduation and maintained a home for her son while her husband fought through Normandy in World War II before being wounded. After the war, she and her husband and son lived in New Orleans, Dallas, and then Summit, New Jersey before moving to Thousand Oaks in 1981. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her husband, son, daughter-in-law, Susan L. Holt, two grandchildren, Edwin L. Holt and Karen Holt (Mrs. Robert) Endries both of Redondo Beach, CA, and sister Rachel Creech Lufty of Reidsville and High Point, NC.
Funeral services will be held in Burlington, NC on Friday, April 30th and a Memorial Service will be held in Thousand Oaks, CA on May 4th.
Arrangements in Burlington are by Rich and Thompson Funeral Service.

JUDITH DEKANY ISAACS
RALEIGH - Judith Dekany Isaacs, 37, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Isaacs; daughter, Alexandra Eva Isaacs, age 5; son, Robert George Isaacs, age 3; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Myles Zuckerman; nieces, Micki and Ruthie Zuckerman, all of Pittsburgh, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Meyer Synagogue or Beth Or Synagogue. A memorial scholarship will be established in Judy's name.

STEWART STANBERRY JOHNSON
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Stewart Stanberry Johnson, 86, died April 24, 1999, at Little Rock, Arkansas.
A native of Ingold, North Carolina, he was born March 24, 1913, to Amos F. and Bessie (Pittman) Johnson.
Since leaving North Carolina, Mr. Johnson had lived in Nevada, Arizona, Florida, and Arkansas. He was a businessman for 40 years in northern Nevada, and was active in the BPOE and various community organizations.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Romie (Pine) Johnson, brother, John Ed; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Annie Harris, and Margaret Hogaboom.
Surviving are his wife, Zoe; daughters Romie Stender and son Stewart of Reno, Nevada; step-daughter Sabra Farrell of Little Rock, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Cremation is under the direction of Roller Funeral Home, Little Rock, Arkansas.

AGNES R. KEMPINSKI
JAN. 27, 1917 - APRIL 27, 1999
RALEIGH - Agnes R. Kempinski, 82, of 5805 Iris Lake Ct., died Tuesday morning at her home. She was the widow of Benedict A. Kempinski who died Nov. 16, 1991.
Funeral mass 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving sons, Benedict Kempinski of Long Island, NY, William Kempinski and Jerry Kempinski both of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.

ROBERTA GAMBLE MARSH
RALEIGH - Roberta Gamble Marsh, 74, of Raleigh, died Monday. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Longview United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Walter F. Marsh; daughter, Robbie Marsh Shapiro and her husband, Ethan Shapiro of Raleigh; brother, Banks R. Gamble of Greensboro; grandsons, Chris R. Gurkin of Erwin, Walter P. Gurkin of Clayton.
Mrs. Marsh is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Denny Gamble and Roggie Wall Gamble and her sister, Helen Gamble Wakefield.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street.

BEN FELTON POTTER
REELSBORO - Ben Felton Potter, 83, of Reelsboro, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Bayview Nursing Center in New Bern. Mr. Potter was founder of B.F. Potter Trucking, Inc. of Route 1 New Bern. He was a Shriner, a skilled sportsman, and an avid hunter.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Sadler Potter.
Graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenleaf Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Roach and Rev. Randy Ratliff officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Bayboro Masonic Lodge #331.
Mr. Potter is survived by his wife, Julia Ross Potter; sons, Benjamin Graham Potter and Denard Thurman Potter, both of Reelsboro; daughter, Betty Potter Rogers of Anderson, SC; brothers, Omer Potter of Newport, Rex Potter of Reelsboro, Orien Potter of Lowland; sister, Grace Potter Spain of Reelsboro; grandchildren, Ernest W. Rogers, III and David Potter Rogers, both of Anderson, SC, Benjamin Derek Potter and Denard Thurman Potter, Jr, both of Reelsboro, Angela Love Potter of Selma, Christy Potter Caroon of Dawson's Creek; five grandchildren.

MARGARET CURRIE RHODES
APEX - Margaret Currie Rhodes, 78, of 8609 Bells Lake Road, died Sunday at Western Wake Hospital in Cary. She was the widow of the late Desmond Everette Rhodes of Apex. Formerly married 27 years to the late Neil I. Currie of Cary, who was the father of her nine children.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Montlawn Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens,Clayton.
Beloved mother to Neil M. Currie and Danny D. Currie of the home; Jerry D. Currie of New Orleans, LA, William R. Currie of Newport, Thomas M. Currie of Princeton, Nancy J. Penny of Garner, Margaret Ann Brennan of Cincinatti, OH, Deborah C. Godwin of Garner, Mark S. Currie of Willow Spring; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m.
Our beloved Mother, you will live on forever within our hearts. Our memories of your beauty, kindness and complete devotion to your children will never be forgotten. You were an only child, and you wanted many children. Your life is a tribute to the dedication and sacrifice it took to raise all nine of us. You always put our needs above your own. You did not want to leave us; you've told us many times. You were our Guardian Angel in life, and so shall it be in death. We love you mother and one day we'll again be by your side.

IRIS W. RUSSELL
MOREHEAD CITY - Iris Willis Russell died Monday, April 26, after an extended illness. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bayview Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Milton Gilbert of First United Methodist Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jesse Staton.
Mrs. Russell, a homemaker, was a life long resident of Morehead City.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas H. Russell of the home; daughter, Elizabeth R. Russell of Morehead City; son, Thomas H. Russell, Jr., of Morehead City; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her parents, Obb C. and Lucy G. Willis and a brother Curtis W. Willis.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC 27705 or to the First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
The family will receive friends following the service or at the home, 905 Shepard St., Morehead City.

CURTIS A. SANDERFORD
JULY 19, 1929 - APRIL 26, 1999
ZEBULON - Curtis Alton Sanderford, 69, of 808 Currin-Perry Rd., died Monday afternoon at his home. He was a retired employee of Schraders Bellows Corp. Born in Johnston County, the son of the late Clarence and Callie Whitley Sanderford. He was predeceased by his wife, Creo W. Sanderford on June 6, 1998.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Roseanna Christy of Mooresville; son, Clarence Sanderford of Castalia; sisters, Eleanor Phipps of Sanford; Fay Jones, Kay Gresham, and Callie Joe Johnson, all of Wendell; brothers, Lloyd Sanderford of Zebulon and Dwight Sanderford of Wendell; four grandchildren; special friends, Calvin and Merle Hood, Noemi and Freddy Perez; special caregivers, May Grondin and Margaret Sanderford.
Flowers accepted or memorials to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605 or American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, other times at the home of Dwight and Eldora Sanderford, 1208 Lake Glad Rd., Wendell.
