STELLA P. FORREST
WAKE FOREST -- Stella Peoples Forrest, 88, died Friday, January 29, 1999. She was born in Hamilton, Alabama and was a 1931 graduate of Alabama College in Montevallo, Alabama. She majored in Home Economics, the field in which she worked for her lifetime.
Stella taught high school home economics for several years in Alabama and then moved to eastern North Carolina in the late 1930's where she worked in a federal program based in Oriental, NC. She then taught high school home economics at Winterville High School in Pitt County and at Wake Forest High School in Wake County. Stella was active in Wake Forest Baptist Church for over 40 years. She participated in volunteer activities of the American Red Cross and won many awards for her participation. She was a member of the Wake Forest Book Club and served in several other service and educational organizations in Wake County.
While she was on the staff at Wake Forest High School, she was nominated by the staff and was elected by the Wake County teachers as "Teacher of the Year for Wake County Schools."
As a result of her service, in 1981 she received the Governor's Award for distinguished meritorious service to the people and the State of North Carolina presented to her by Governor James B. Hunt.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.
Funeral service will be held 3 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, February 2, 1999 at Wake Forest Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Jackson and the Rev. Dr. Carroll Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Forrest is survived by her husband, Rufus Hyatt Forrest; daughter, Stella Forrest Daniska; and grandson, Michael Forrest Daniska, all of Wake Forest. She has four surviving nephews and their families; Arthur Peoples of Greensboro, Stephen Peoples of New Hampshire, Michael Peoples of Reidsville and Allan Peoples of Portland, Maine. She also has surviving cousins in Alabama, California and Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Church in the following areas: The Margaret Hipps Sunday School Class, the church music department or to the building fund. (107 East South Avenue, Wake Forest, NC 27587).
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday evening, February 1, 1999 and at the home of Stella Forrest Daniska at other times.

MALISSIA MAY ROBERTS POOLE
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Malissia May "Ma" Roberts Poole, 95, of Raleigh, died Saturday, January 30, 1999 in the Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale.
Mrs. Poole was born in Wake County on April 13, 1903, the daughter of the late Charles N. and Augusta Allen Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carey H. Poole and two sons, Arthur L. and David Allen Poole.
She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh, avid fisherwoman and a faithful member of the Samaria Baptist Church for 95 years, through which she received her academic as well as her spiritual education.
Surviving are one son, Hunter A. Poole and wife, Olive of Raleigh; one sister, Grace Robert Burroughs of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Linda P. FitzSimons, Arlene P. Pope, Hunter A. Poole Jr. and David A. Poole; four great-grandchildren, Melissa, Carey, Taylor and John.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 1999 in the Samaria Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Wilson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, N.C.

JEAN AUDREY KLUTTZ ROGERS
RALEIGH -- Jean Audrey Kluttz Rogers, 68, formerly of Greensboro, died Saturday, January 30, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
She attended Salem College where she studied voice and music. Mrs. Rogers was a retired court reporter with the N.C. Industrial Commission and was a secretary in the N.C. State Legislature for seven years.
She was an accomplished bridge player who was a Life Master in duplicate bridge. She was also a member of the Thalian Association in Wilmington and appeared in several productions there.
She will be remembered most for her unselfish kindness and generous consideration of others.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, at Asbury United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro.
Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Laney and her husband, Mike of Raleigh, Katrina Rogers of Big Spring, Texas; their father, William Vernon Rogers of Holden Beach; six grandchildren, Kristen, Rebecca, Catherine and Elizabeth Laney and Jasper and Elisha Jancik.
She was predeceased by her mother, Effie LaBrie, her father, John David Kluttz Jr. and her brother, John David Kluttz III.
Memorials may be made to the Lung Association of North Carolina, 800 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. 27605.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 1, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street.

EDNA B. BARNES
WILSON -- Edna Farrior Ballenger Barnes, 84, died Sunday.
Funeral, Tuesday, 11 a.m., Winstead United Methodist Church. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: husband, Sam Barnes; son, Ray H. Ballenger of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Allene Forbes of Greenville and Retha Stevenson of Greensboro; brothers, Hugh Farrior of Farmville and Ralph Farrior of Jasper, AL.
The family will be at Thomas-Yelverton, today, 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Winstead United Methodist Church, 1407 S. Tarboro St., Wilson, NC 27893.

GAITHER "DIDLEY" DIXON
RALEIGH -- Gaither Floyd Dixon, 84, of Raleigh died Saturday, January 30, 1999. Mr. Dixon retired from Westinghouse in 1974. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and the Millbrook Lodge #97.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at Millbrook Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his sons, Gaither Dean Dixon and his wife, Virgie Dixon of Raleigh and James B. Dixon and his wife, Mary L. Dixon of Carthage; grandchildren, Angela Dunton, Susan Dixon, James Ryan Dixon and Jennifer Lea Dixon.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor Raleigh, NC 27605.

HERMAN LEE FARRINGTON
APEX -- Herman Lee Farrington, 58, of 18 Farrington Rd. died January 28. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haw River Baptist Church, Pittsboro, NC. Burial in the church cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Christine; two daughters, Arnita Wilson (William) of Chapel Hill, NC, Julie Farrington of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Tameka, Antoinette, and Britanny of Chapel Hill, NC; two brothers, Ravon Farrington (Chris) of Butner, NC and Kenneth Allbrooks (Mary) of Apex, NC; three sisters, Alma Jean Crutchfield (William) of Pittsboro, NC, Emma Joyce Farrington of Greensboro, NC and Patricia Farrington of Charlotte, NC; a devoted aunt Annie B. Kelly of Apex, NC.
Visitation, 7-8 p.m. today at Albright Funeral Home Chapel.

WILLIAM "CECIL" HALE
ENFIELD -- William "Cecil" Hale, 82, of Enfield died January 30, 1999.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd at the Enfield Baptist Church with the Reverend David Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield.
Mr. Hale is survived by his wife, Hattie B. Hale of the home; two daughters, Debra Becknell of Red Oak and Donna Haney of Charleston, South Carolina; three sons, Donald Hale of Nashville, NC, Aubrey Hale of Battleboro, NC and Gerald Hale of Enfield, NC; one sister, Elizabeth Sawyer of Norfolk, Virginia; two brothers, Ralph Hale of Pinetops, NC, and Clinton Hale of Enfield, NC; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck, NC.
Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck, NC.

WILLARD E. HARVEY
MOREHEAD CITY -- Willard Emerson Harvey, 77, of Morehead City died at his home Sunday, January 31st.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Banks pastor of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Morehead City officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
Survivors: wife, Helen Hufham Harvey; sons, Bob Harvey of Sandwich, MA, Dan Harvey of Knightdale, Jim Harvey of Lewistown, PA; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, 1301 N. Salem Street, Apex, NC 27502.

HATTIE K. MELROSE JEFFREYS
RALEIGH -- Hattie Kathleen Melrose Gaylor Jeffreys, 91, of Goldsboro, formerly of Raleigh, died Jan. 30, 1999, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.
Mrs. Jeffreys was the widow of the late Raymond J. Jeffreys. She was a current member of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro. Mrs. Jeffreys was a veteran of World War II and a retired educator.
She is survived by her nieces, Frances A. Wilson of Raleigh and Patsy Ruth A. McArthur of Greensboro; nephews, John H. Alpers of Boulder, Colorado, and Charles P. Gaylor III of Goldsboro; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Ellis Gaylor of Goldsboro.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. by Dr. Glenn Phillips of Goldsboro at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to The Good Samaritan Fund of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, 125 S. John Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

MELVIN L. JONES
RALEIGH -- Mr. Melvin L. Jones, 70, 1401 Athens Drive, died Friday at IHS Nursing and Rehab. Center.
Mr. Jones was born in Wake County and served many years as a US Postal employee.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Jones and his mother, Mrs. Minnie B. Jones, both of Raleigh; three sons, Ronald and Timothy Jones of Cary, and Angelo Jones of Raleigh; two sisters, Ms. Annie Bell Jones of Raleigh and Mrs. Theresa Hales of Fayetteville; one brother Raymond N. Jones Sr. of Washington, DC; two grandchildren.
Funeral services and visitation will be held at Watts Chapel Baptist Church Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

ALMA WELLS KIRK
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Alma Wells Kirk, 90, of Raleigh, NC, died Friday, January 29, 1999 in Rex Hospital.
Mrs. Kirk was born in Wake Co., NC, on November 23, 1908, the daughter of the late John and Charlotte Pipkin Wells.
She was a member and organist of Caraleigh Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Kirk, along with her husband, Melvin Taft Kirk, Sr., who preceded her in death operated the Cutler Street Grocery Store for over 30 years.
Surviving are one son, Taft Kirk and wife, Sue of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Nancy Kirk Lynn and husband, William of Florence, SC; one sister, Edith Liles of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 1, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home St. Mary's St. Chapel by Dr. L. Mack Thompson. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements by Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC.
