MARY V. WILLIAMSON
CLINTON -- Mary V. Williamson, 83, of 6688 Taylor's Bridge Hwy, died in Sampson Regional Medical Center, Tuesday, March 2, 1999.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Bullock and Rev. Larry King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Sampson County, the widow of Alex Graham Williamson the daughter of the late Henry Clay and Minnie (Bush) Roberts Valentine.
She is survived by five sons, Henry Williamson of Clinton, Tommy Williamson of Cary, Phillip Williamson of Raleigh, John Williamson of Clinton, Kim Williamson of Wilmington; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends, Thursday 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

RUSSELL G. BROADDUS
RALEIGH -- Russell Garman Broaddus, 86, of 127 Longview Lake Drive, Raleigh, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999.
Born in Bowling Green, Virginia, Col. Broaddus graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1934 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and an Army Commission as a Second Lieutenant. Thereafter until 1941, he served as engineer for the Soil Conservation Camp in High Point as Assistant Agricultural Engineer at N.C. State University at Raleigh and as President and Treasurer of Carolina Freezer Locker, Inc., also in Raleigh.
He has had a distinguished military career. From 1941 to 1946, he was on active duty with the U.S. Army, rising from the rank of first Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel. In 1948, he joined the N.C. National Guard and as a Lieutenant Colonel was assigned to the N.C. Selective Service System in Raleigh and was later named Deputy State Director of the system. In 1966, he retired as a Colonel after 32 years of Commissioned Service and then was assigned to the reserves. Colonel Broaddus was the recipient of the Legion of Merit Award for his outstanding service.
Active in civic and community activities, Colonel Broaddus was instrumental in the development of the Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind. Later he assumed the Executive Director's position of that organization. For his distinguished work he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his humanitarian service.
Col. Broaddus was a longstanding member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church where he served in numerous leadership capacities.
Col. Broaddus is survived by his wife, Mary N. Broaddus of Raleigh. He was predeceased in death by Dolly D. Broaddus. Surviving include a niece, Melinda L. Shepardson of Richmond, Va.; two nephews, Cabell Luck Jr. of Ashland, Va., L. Fraser McCutcheon Jr. of South Carolina. In addition, he is survived by a stepson, James Robert Foy Jr. of Lake Gaston.
A memorial service will be held at Edenton Street United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., April 15, 1999.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bowling Green (VA) United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 513, Bowling Green, Va. 22427 or to the Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind, Inc., 315 Hubert St., Raleigh, N.C. 27603.

KEVIN MICHAEL WATSON
CARY -- Kevin Michael Watson, three year old son of Stephanie and Michael Watson of Cary, died Monday April 12, 1999 at Duke Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at White Plains United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
Surviving in addition to Kevin's parents are his sister Jennifer Watson of the home; his maternal grandparents, Peggy C. and Albert D. Capouano of Orlando, FL and his paternal grandparents, Cheryl M. and Charles V. Watson of Newberry, FL.

WORTH M. CARROLL
BENSON -- Worth M. Carroll, 80, of 925 W. Watson Rd., died Monday, April 12, 1999. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, McLaurin Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Rev. Steve Morris officiating.
He is survived by: sons, Billy Carroll of Willow Spring, J.L. Carroll of Clayton, Steve Carroll of Raleigh, Mike Carroll of Smithfield; daughter-in-law, Judy Pollard of Raleigh; brother, James Carroll of Angier, Glenn Carroll of Garner; sister, Mary Williams of Durham, Christine Pourron of Clayton, Maybelle Gulley of Garner; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: son, Gene Carroll; wife, Nora Carroll; grandson, Ricky Carroll.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

MARY BETTY DANIEL
PLEASANT HILL -- Mrs. Betty Smith Daniel, 80, of Rt. 1, Pleasant Hill, died April 12, 1999. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at the Daniel family cemetery by Rev. Frank Stansbury and Rev. Ricky Barnes.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

IRA C. ELLINGTON JR.
MAY 21, 1942 - APR 12, 1999
GARNER -- Ira Clarence Ellington Jr., 56, of 8100 Bryan Road, died Monday.
Service 11 a.m. Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel. Burial, Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Clayton.
Surviving: daughter, Angela Kim Allen of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Pauline Weaver of Coats; brothers, R.H. Ellington of Angier, Donald Ellington of Dunn and step-brother, Thomas Arnold of Raleigh; granddaughters, Amanda Holt and Amber Allen Arvin both of Fuquay-Varina; a friend, Mrs. Rosalyn Parrish Ellington.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today, and at other times at the home of Rosalyn Parrish Ellington, 1111 N. Spring Garden Circle, Raleigh, NC 27603.

SUSAN SHU-HWA FAN
APRIL 10, 1947-APRIL 11, 1999
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Susan Shu-Hwa Fan, 52, of Keelung, Taiwan, was taken to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, April 11, 1999 at Rex Hospital. She was born in Taiwan and raised by her mother, Ms. Grace Lu. She grew up in Taiwan with a love for music and enjoyed playing the piano for her school and church. She immigrated to the United States in 1967 and settled in Pasadena, CA where she further pursued her love for music in college. She was active in the church and was one of the charter members of the Evangelical Formosan Church. In May 1971, her eldest sister played match-maker; and Susan flew to the U.S. Virgin Islands to meet Dr. Jack Jeng-Yen Fan who was doing medical training on the islands. The couple fell in love and were married in December 1971 in Pasadena, CA. The couple moved to Chicago, IL where Jack finished his residency. The couple eventually settled in Clayton, NC where Jack started his medical practice. Susan spent much of her time educating primary school students about her homeland of Taiwan by giving presentations at local schools. She also remained an active member of the Raleigh Chinese Christian Church and Evangelical Formosan Church by playing the piano and singing in the choir.
Susan devoted her life to her two children at home so they could succeed in her new found country, America. She wanted nothing less than to glorify God through her words and the way she raised her children. Though her life was often stricken with illness, Susan often used this as a blessing to encourage others who were ill or had sick loved-ones. She constantly gave glory to God in good times and in bad times. Her love for children was always evident every Sunday at church when she gave out candy to every little child she saw. She has touched hundreds of lives in Clayton as well as the Asian American population all over the Southeast and beyond with her sincere integrity, gentle spirit, and her tremendous strength in the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Fan; son, Billy Fan (wife, Gloria Fan); and daughter, Nancy Fan; brother, Benjamin Lu; sisters, Elizabeth Chen and Ruth Chang.
The memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, Friday, April 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. and a graveside service will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Thursday, April 15, 1999 from 7-9 p.m.

CAROLYN BARRINGTON GRUBBS
RALEIGH -- Carolyn Barrington Grubbs, 60, of Raleigh, died April 13, 1999, after a long struggle with Parkinson Disease. Mrs. Grubbs was Professor of Modern European History at Meredith College for 30 years. She was the director of Social Sciences Secondary Teacher Education Programs. Mrs. Grubbs widely traveled through Western Europe and Great Britain and taught extensively on Meredith College Study abroad trips. She was awarded outstanding teacher status at Meredith and was a respected colleague. Mrs. Grubbs has been named one of the one hundred distinguished Alumnae of Meredith College. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She is survived by her husband, Frank L. Grubbs; son, Thomas Ashby Grubbs of Apex; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Barrington and Yolanda Grubbs of Fuquay-Varina; mother, Patricia P. Barrington of Fayetteville; brother and sister-in-law, Carl A. and Linda Barrington, Jr. and brother, Christopher Barrington, all of Fayetteville.
The family will be receiving friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Carolyn and Frank Grubbs Scholarship Fund, Meredith College, or Hospice of Wake County.

TYLER CHRISTIAN HELMS
CARY -- Tyler Christian Helms, five month old son of Grady T. Helms, III and Leigh E. Weiss died April 12, 1999 at Duke Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, in Cary. Burial will follow in Apex Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his parents are: maternal grandparents, LeRoy Weiss of Holland, Ohio and Mary and David Lapointe of Sarasota, FL; paternal grandparents, Patsy and Grady Helms of Apex; paternal great-grandmother, Helen King of Monroe, NC and maternal great-grandmother, Anne Lapointe of Northampton, MA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Tyler Christian Helms' name may be made to the American Heart Association, 3901 Computer Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27609.

ROMULUS "ROM" HENRY LLEWELLYN JR.
WILSON -- Romulus "Rom" Henry Llewellyn Jr., 67, died April 13, 1999. He was born May 6, 1931. He was a Real Estate Broker with William's Properties, Atlantic Beach, NC.
Funeral, 2 p.m. Thursday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West with Rev. Michael McHarg officiating. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Joanne Roberson Llewellyn; sisters, Frankie Llewellyn Corrington of Wilson, Dorothy Llewellyn Kelly of Yaupon Beach; brothers, Dick Llewellyn of Newport, Jim Llewellyn of Kinston.
Visitation from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday Joyner's Funeral Home other times the family will be at 1124 Knollwood Drive.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Boys and Girls Home, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

LOUISE PROCTOR McINTYRE
RED OAK -- Louise Proctor McIntyre, 73, died Monday, April 12, 1999. Mrs. McIntyre was born March 26, 1926 in Edgecombe County, daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Nannie Jane Calhoun Proctor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McIntyre and was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.
Surviving; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jean McIntyre of Red Oak; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lou and Joe White of Youngsville; grandchildren, Cameron McIntyre, Brian McIntyre and wife, Casey, Megan McIntyre, Brandon White, Shaun White, Rachel White, and Melissa White; brother, Benjamin Floyd Proctor of Washington; great-grandchild, Dylan McIntyre; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Oak Cemetery with Rev. Rucker Burnette officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue and other times at 7448 Red Oak Road.

GERTRUDE F. MULHEARN
RALEIGH -- Gertrude Fear Mulhearn, 92, of 6901 Chamonix Place, died Monday, April 12, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
Trudy was born in Avoca, PA, daughter of Henrietta Coad Dougherty and James F. Dougherty. She graduated from St. Johns High School, Pittston, PA and Marywood College, Scranton, PA. After graduation she was a teacher of Commercial Business in Avoca High School. Married to Dr. Harold B. Fear in 1940, they resided in Freeland, PA, until his death in 1942. In 1960 Trudy married John A. Mulhearn of Freeland, PA who died in 1974.
Surviving: son, James Harold Fear and wife, Terry Lynn of Raleigh; grandchildren, James Daniel of Brunswick, GA and Nancy Ellen of Gainsville, FL.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Glenwood Ave., on Thursday, April 15, 1999 at 7 p.m.

LANIE F. MUMFORD
KENLY -- Lanie Fulghum Mumford, 74, of Kenly, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. J.C. Yates.
Surviving are Beth Sharp of Wilson, Linda McSwain of Apex and Lori Mumford of Raleigh; grandsons, Thad and James Sharp of Sims.
Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Coley Funeral Home, Kenly.
