EMIT D. NIPPER
RALEIGH -- Emit D. Nipper, 76, of 509 Glenwood Avenue, died Monday. He is survived by his wife, Christine Hill Nipper; a step-son, J.B. Jones of Raleigh; three step-daughters, Marlene Thaller of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Helen Bowen of Garner, Ann Peace of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Elsie N. Barlow of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Soapstone United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street.

FAYE WEATHERS PERRY
WAKE FOREST -- Faye Weathers Perry, 79 of 6209 Degrace Dr. died Tuesday at Rex Hospital. She was born in Wake County the daughter of the late Lonnie F. and Eunice Christman Weathers. She was retired from Rex Hospital as a patient information receptionist, and was a former owner and operator of H.E. Perry's Store in Rolesville, and was a charter member of Order of the Eastern Star in Rolesville. She was preceded in death by her husband Horace Ephriam "H.E." Perry in 1986.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Rolesville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Perry is survived by her daughters, Lois Faye P. Price of Selbyville, DE, Kaye P. Wall and Lynne P. Wall both of Rolesville; a half sister, Jolene W. Edwards of Raleigh; grandchildren, Bobby Price, LeAnn Price, Shellie W. Wilkins and husband Wade, Anthony Wall, Coy Privette, and Brandi Privette, and a great grandson Harrison W. Wilkins.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Bright Funeral Home, and all other times at the home.

MELVYN P. RINFRET
CHAPEL HILL -- Melvyn Paul Rinfret, 69, retired long-time General Manager of the Granville Towers university student housing complex at UNC-Chapel Hill, died on Tuesday, April 13 following several months of serious illness.
Well-known for his civic leadership Mr. Rinfret managed the 1,400-student private UNC housing complex from August 1, 1969 until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1997. He was well-known as an avid Tar Heel sports fan and lover of big band music.
The son of the late Romeo and Katherine Muzurka Rinfret, he was a native of Melrose, MA where he was born Nov. 28, 1929. He received BA and MA degrees from the University of New Hampshire and an additional MA from the University of Rochester. Mr. Rinfret had been Director of Housing at Rochester Institute of Technology and Student Housing Director at San Fernando Valley State College in Los Angeles before coming to Chapel Hill.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church here, where a funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. A big band reception in celebration of his life will follow the service in the narthex after the Mass of Christian Burial.
Surviving is a brother, Douglas Rinfret and his spouse, Joanna of Danvers, MA, and an elderly aunt, Veronica Demasky of Brentwood, NH; a brother, Robert, predeceased him.
Rinfret had been a member of the Chapel Hill Rotary Club since 1970 and was its President in 1982. He attended 11 annual conventions of Rotary International around the world and was a Paul Harris Fellow - the designation for top contributors to the Rotary International Foundation. Recently he was honored by the Chapel Hill Rotary Club with an award designating in his name an annual expense grant to incoming club presidents to attend the annual international conference. He had also been honored by Rotary International for his exceptional service to student programs and as a Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation for world understanding and peace, and received the Rotary District Service Award.
In Chapel Hill, he had also been a director of the Chamber of Commerce and was recognized for his civic service by the Inter-Faith Council, the YMCA, Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home, and the Boy Scouts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is in charge of arrangements.

JUDITH L. ROGERS
JUNE 23, 1915 - APRIL 12, 1999
RALEIGH -- Judith L. Rogers, 83, died Monday at Hillside Nursing Home in Wake Forest. Graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: daughter, Marilyn Rogers of San Diego, CA; sons, Richard Rogers of Raleigh, Arthur Rogers of Pointe Keys, CA, Martin Rogers of Irving, TX; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

WILLIAM RAY SEELY
WENDELL -- William Ray Seely, 71, of 1240 Ridge Haven Drive, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. He was retired from J&L Steel, in Pennsylavnia and Wachovia in Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene E. and Helen M. Seely, and his sister, Jean Elizabeth Frederichsen.
Funeral service 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service chapel. Graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
Surviving: wife, Grace Scheible "Rusti" Seely; daughters, "Sandy" Seely of Goldsboro, Linda S. Terrell and husband, William of Four Oaks, Pattye S. Zareski and husband, Mark of Wendell, "Candy" Denton and husband, Phil of Charlotte; brother, James A. Seely of Spring Hill, FL; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.

TINY SHELTON
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Tiny Shelton, age 94, died April 12, after a brief illness at Rex Hospital. Funeral service, Friday, 3 p.m. at Riley Hill Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving; son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Elaine Hodge-Shelton; three grandchildren, Robert, Jr, of Silver Springs, MD, Sharon Marie of Raleigh and Mark Noel (Sharon C.) of Long Island, NY; one great grandson, Marc Javon Shelton; one niece, Irene Stewart; three special great-nieces, Wilma Hoggard, Shirley Brown and Delores Rogers; two great great-nieces, Valerie Davis and Veronica Wilson; two special friends, James and Lorraine Middleton.
Visitation, 2-3 p.m. Friday at Riley Hill Baptist Church.

RUDOLPH DAVID STRICKLAND
MIDDLESEX -- Rudolph David Strickland, 78, of Middlesex died April 12, 1999. He was born December 8, 1920.
Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stony Hill Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Lewis J. Forsythe officiating. Burial, Middlesex Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Gretchen Haynes Strickland; sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Sandra R. Strickland of Middlesex, Larry and Marina L. Strickland of Middlesex, Kenny and Donna P. Strickland of Wendell; sisters, Ethel Bissette of Elm City, Sudie Deans of Middlesex; grandchildren, Kim, David, Amy, Tara, Adrian, AJ and Collin Strickland; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West, other times the family will be at 5478 Hopkins Rd.

DAVID WHITEHURST WATSON
SOUTHPORT -- Mr. David Whitehurst Watson, 79, of 318 Willis Drive, died Monday at home. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Southport. A retired FBI Senior Resident Agent, he was once assigned to Raleigh.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie A. Watson; six children; one brother; one sister; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

LESTER D. "L.D." WILLIAMS
June 6, 1926 - April 13, 1999
MIDDLESEX -- Lester "L.D." Darwin Williams, 72, of 6287 NC Hwy 231, died Tuesday at Wake Medical. He was a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation. Born in Wake County, he was the son of the late James and Fannie Wall Williams.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Jacky Raper officiating. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Maloye H. Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky D. and Pamela Williams of Garner; grandson, Justin D. Williams of Garner; sisters, Algie Davis of Raleigh, Marvie Davis of Cary, Janet Hilliard of Clayton and Lottie Russell of Raleigh; brother, James E. Williams of Raleigh.

EDNA "DORIS" WINSTON
HOLLY SPRINGS -- Edna "Doris" Winston, 75, of 413 Doris Lake Rd., passed on April 10, 1999 at Western Wake Hospital, Cary. Funeral 12-noon Thursday, First Baptist Church, Fuquay-Varina. Burial, United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holly Springs.
Surviving: husband, Glaudie Winston; daughters, Edna Utley of Holly Springs, Lucy Munns of Fuquay-Varina, Emma Lawrence of Garner, Sandra Dunn of Fuquay-Varina; sons, Nelson Glaudie Winston of Holly Springs, Stanley Winston of the home; brother, John Prince of Stanford, CT; sisters, Maggie McLean of Apex, Vernice Robinson of Fuquay-Varina; aunt, Pearlie Williams of Holy Springs; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Wake 7-8 p.m. today at the church.

JOSEPH GREEN WISE JR.
NEW BERN -- Joseph Green Wise, Jr., 74, of New Bern, formerly of Raleigh, died Monday evening, April 12, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Wise was born on December 12, 1924 in Kinston, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Wise, Sr. He attended Edwards military Institute, Brevard College and Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science in Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. Mr. Wise retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was active in the U.S. Power Suadron and the Civil Air Patrol.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cotten Funeral Home with the Reverend William McKnight and Erv Sharpe officiating.
He is survived by his widow Sarah Vann Wise; son, Joseph Jefferson Wise of Raleigh; daughter, Mary Wise Harkins of Raleigh; sisters, Gladys W. Chency of Union, SC, Eleanor W. Bennett of Deland, FL; three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Craven County Home Health Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 12610, New Bern, NC 28561.

NELLIE LORENE MORRISON
CARRBORO -- Nellie Lorene Morrison, 71, died Thursday, May 27, 1999 at UNC Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Johnston County where she grew up on a farm with six brothers and sisters. She moved to Norfolk, Virginia for nursing school, then to Durham to work at Duke Hospital. In 1961, she and her family moved to Carrboro where she worked with Dr. Charles Reap and later with Blue Cross until retirement in 1990. Her love of the outdoors and fishing took her to the coast where she spent most of her time after retirement. Her kindness, generosity and zest for life will be remembered by family and friends.
She is survived by her three children and their families, Steve Morrison and Sue Goodman of Chapel Hill, Brenda and Bob Dellinger of Cullowhee, Gloria and Mark Westray of Cary; grandchildren, Megan, Alexander, Savannah, Rachel and Caroline; brothers and sisters, Wilma Stanley, Lester Stewart, W.C. Stewart, Lou Wade and Gladys Winstead.
A memorial service will be held at Walker's Funeral Home on Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m.
Family will receive guests in the parlor following the service.

CHRISTINE B. BAGWELL
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Christine B. Bagwell, 76, of Raleigh, NC, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 in Rex Hospital.
Mrs. Bagwell was born in Harnett Co., NC on June 19, 1922, the daughter of the late Joe Cephus and Callie Jackson Barbour. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis D. Bagwell.
She was a long time member of the Temple Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Louis D. Bagwell owned and operated Bagwell Plumbing in Raleigh for many years.
Mrs. Bagwell was retired as an auditor with the State Board of Education.
Surviving are her beloved and devoted daughter, Donna Bagwell of Raleigh, NC; brother, Edward Barbour and wife, Tabatha of Atlantic Beach, NC; sister, Nellie Stephens of Portsmouth, VA; close friend and sister-in-law, Agnes Barbour of Raleigh, NC; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home St. Mary's St. Chapel by Dr. Charles Johnson. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
