DR. GEORGE EDWARD CRAWLEY III
GREENVILLE -- Dr. George Edward Crawley, III, 37, died Friday, March 26, 1999 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Dr. Crawley, a native of Wilson, was a graduate of Fike High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was Phi Beta Kappa. A graduate of East Carolina University School of Medicine, he was the recipient of the first Brody Scholarship. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Duke University. For the past six years, he had been a resident of Greenville where he was a partner in Eastern Radiology Associates, Inc. and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the ECU School of Medicine. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was a Rotarian.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann Lineberger Crawley; daughters, Catherine Sydney Crawley, Mary Ellen Crawley, Virginia Louise Crawley, and Caroline Lee Crawley, all of the home; parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Crawley, Jr. of Wilson; brother, Benjamin Vick Crawley of Wilson; sister, Anne Jackson Crawley of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

MARY M. DUNN
RALEIGH -- Mary M. Dunn, 89, of 305 S. Swain St., died March 24, 1999. Funeral 1 p.m. Monday, Lightner Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: sister, Alice Dunn; nieces, Julia Dunn and Marion Garett.
Visitation 12-1 p.m. prior to the service.
Arrangements by Lightner Funeral Home.

EMILY HAVENS "MIMI" EDMONDSON
TARBORO -- Emily Havens "Mimi" Edmondson, 58, died Friday.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday in the Calvary Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bill Smyth officiating. Burial in the Churchyard.
Survivors: husband, Curtis L. Edmondson; daughters, Katherine E. Lancaster of Tarboro, Emily E. Joyner of Raleigh; sons, Jonathan Ward Edmondson of Tarboro, Curtis Lee Edmondson, Jr., of Raleigh; mother, Emily Ward Havens of Tarboro; sisters, Bonner H. Worsley of Tarboro, Myrtle H. Carstarphen of Wilmington; brother, Jonathan F. Havens, Jr. of Greenville; grandson, James Graves Joyner.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Calvary Episcopal Churchyard.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the home, 1212 Panola Street, Tarboro.

RUBY BRANCH HARDEE
RALEIGH -- Ruby Branch Hardee, 94, of Smithfield formerly of Raleigh, died Thursday. She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are her son, Thomas R. Hardee and his wife, Mabel of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Bill E. Murph, Thomas R. Hardee, Jr. and Carolyn Hardee Troutman; three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Paul Hardee and a daughter, Janie E. Murph and two sisters and two brothers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4100 Noble Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.

LOUISE M. HOBBS
LILLINGTON -- Mrs. Louise M. Hobbs, 86, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Pinelake Nursing Home in Carthage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Josiah C. Hobbs. She was an elementary school teacher for over 25 years, teaching at Lillington School and later at Shawtown School.
Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, Lillington United Methodist Church with Rev. Stacey Graves officiating. Burial, Bunnlevel Cemetery.
Surviving: son, Fred Martin Hobbs of Southern Pines; grandchildren, Jeanne and Jim Hobbs.
Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Lillington United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 506, Lillington, NC 27546.

SAMMIE K. HUDSON
FEB. 14, 1918-MAR. 24, 1999
RALEIGH -- Sammie K. Hudson, 81, of 1501 Chester Road, died on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 after a long illness with Emphysema and Osteoporosis. Mrs. Hudson was a long time resident of Downey, CA where she worked and retired as a Psychologist. Her entire life was one of loving wife, mother, aunt, friend and cat lover.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald Billy Hudson of Reno, NV and his wife Beverly, their children Rhonda Hudson of Los Angeles, CA and Heidi Hudson of San Francisco, CA, and Jack Brian Hudson and his wife Brenda Goodson, their chil dren Rachel and Ryan all of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 on Sunday, March 28, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Reverends James H. Bailey and Jonathan Jeffries officiating. The family will receive friends on that day 12:30-6 p.m. at the family home at 1501 Chester Road, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, commemorations may be made to the Ministers' Discretionary Fund (for families/individuals in need), Highland Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.

WALTER JOHNSON
SNOW HILL -- Mr. Walter Johnson, 84, died Friday morning at the home of his daughter in Goldsboro following an extended period of declining health.
Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer and a member of Harrell's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: daughters, Peggy J. Bartlett and husband, Kenneth of LaGrange, Mavis J. Van Roekel and husband, Johnnie of Goldsboro and Joyce J. Harrell and husband, Tommy of Snow Hill; a son, Jimmy Johnson and wife, Ann of Snow Hill; sisters, Eva Bass of Rocky Mount, Jessie Smith and Tinnie Lee Ham, both of LaGrange, Evelyn Chase of Snow Hill and Blanche Head of Virginia; brothers, Bruce Johnson and Cornelius Johnson, both of Snow Hill, Tom Johnson of Goldsboro and Hugh Johnson of Kenly; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Joyce J. Harrell, Route 1 (Hwy. 13 & 258), Snow Hill.

THOMAS BURRELL REYNOLDS JR.
RALEIGH -- Thomas Burrell Reynolds, Jr., 78, of Raleigh, died Thursday at Mayview Convalescent Center. He had been in declining health for several years and had been a resident of Mayview since February. He was born on February 21, 1921 in Raleigh and was the son of the late Bertha Briggs Reynolds and Thomas Burrell Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was the husband of the late Clyde Mann Wade Reynolds.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 29th at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by two sons, Thomas B. Reynolds, III of Waynesville, NC and S. Wade Reynolds of Raleigh; a daughter, Judith Reynolds Cook of East Lyme, Connecticut; three sisters, Virginia Reynolds Rapport of Washington, D.C., Helen Reynolds Reid of Winston-Salem, NC and Mary Beryl Reynolds Johnson of Canastota, NY; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, Raleigh.

MARY VIRGINIA SANDFORD
FALLS CHURCH, VA -- Mary Virginia Sandford, 86, died March 24, 1999 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital of heart failure during surgery. A resident of Falls Church, Virginia since 1946, she retired from the Hecht Company in 1977.
Mrs. Sandford was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She married in 1939, and after her husband served in Europe during World War II, they settled in Falls Church, VA.
She is survived by her husband, Robinson P. Sandford; four children, Mary Jean Campbell of Dumfries, VA, Sandra K. Beavers of Raleigh, NC, Douglas F. Sandford of Tuscaloosa, AL, Robin V. Creel of Vienna, VA. Survivors include her beloved grandchildren, Dawn W. Farrington of Dale City, VA, Robert P. Campbell, Jr. of Dumfries, VA, James W. Sandford of Birmingham, AL, Brian M. Creel of Fairfax, VA, Amanda L. Beavers and Andrew P. Beavers, both of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Andrew W. Farrington and Joshua S. Farrington of Dale City and Sean Tweedie of Fairfax, VA.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

DIANNE J. HARDERSEN
RALEIGH -- Dianne J. Hardersen, 48, died Thursday, May 27, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and was involved in the church choir and Stephen Ministry. She was also a member of the Wood Valley Women's Club and Bible Study.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Hardersen; daughters, Angela Hardersen Keith and husband Brandon of Apex, Katherine Grace Hardersen, and Christina Lynn Hardersen, both of Raleigh; parents, Allen and Betty Thompson of Faribault, MN; brothers, Dennis Thompson and wife Kay of Rochester, NY and Roger Thompson and wife Peggy of Faribault, MN; sister, Rebecca Keebaugh and husband Greg of Blue Earth, MN.
The family will receive friends and relatives at North Raleigh Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 am at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The Hardersen family is being served by North Raleigh Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd., 870-5123.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Avila Retreat Center, 711 Mason Road, Durham, NC 27712.

LEONARD LESTER STEVENS
FEBRUARY 15, 1908 - MAY 29, 1999
CARY -- Leonard Lester Stevens, 91, of Cary passed away Saturday, May 29, 1999 at his home. He was born in Knawha Falls, West Virginia, the son of the late George and Angie Huddleston Stevens and the grandson of the late Albert and Sally Oliver Huddleston. He retired in 1972 with 47 years of service with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad as a Morse Code telegraph operator and later as a centralized train control operator. He was known as "little Joe" to everyone on the C & O Railroad. During World War II he was deferred from military service because his skills on the railroad were more valuable to the war effort than being a uniformed soldier.
He made his home in Montgomery, WV for almost 50 years before moving to Cary in 1977. He became a colorful figure at Cary Towne Center wearing his straw boater in summer and black cowboy hat in winter. He was fondly known as the "Mayor of the Mall."
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Virginia Pearl Winebrenner Stevens; daughters, Carolyn and husband W. George Duffield of Cary, Saralee and husband William O. Martin of Palm Harbor, FL and grandson, Michael Stevens Duffield of Winston-Salem, NC.
He was preceded in death by his only brother, Earl Stevens of Maysville, KY.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to one's favorite charity or church.
