NAOMI CARSON DECKER
ASHEVILLE -- Margaret Naomi Carson Decker, 66, of 14 White Pine Court, died on Tuesday, May 4, 1999. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Earl Lester and Ora Lee Buckner Carson. She was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband, Charles Franklin Decker; sons, Charles Kent Decker of Clyde, Scott Franklin Decker of Knightdale, Timothy Harold Decker of Las Cruces, NM; daughter, Susan Decker Kalifeh of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Earl Lester Carson, Jr. of Asheville, Coy Carson of Greenville, SC; sister, Virginia Halcombe of Asheville; nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 1999 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Service. Reverend Randy Melton will officiate. Entombment will be in the Ashelawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.
GRACE WOOLFORD DRAPER
DURHAM -- Grace Woolford Draper, born in Dallas, TX on September 24, 1911, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Forest at Duke in Durham.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, GA since the age of 10. She attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta where she was a member of Chi Omega. She was also a member of Rabin Gap Nacooche Guild. She lived in Atlanta until her move to the Forest at Duke in Durham in October of 1992.
She is survived by sisters, Elizabeth Woolford Trapp Long Trapp of Durham, Dixie Woolford Long of Raleigh; stepchildren, Brice Draper Jr. of Wilbraham, MA, Marcie Draper Jordan of Prospect Heights, IL; niece, Betsy Johnson of Cary, NC; nephew, Joe Kalkhurst of Raleigh, NC; one great-niece; and two great-nephews.
The memorial service will be private.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.
MABEL RIMMER EURY
RALEIGH -- Mabel Rimmer Eury, 94, died Wednesday, April 5, 1999. Mrs. Eury was the wife of the late Dumas Jefferson Eury, her spouse of 53 years, who preceded her in death on February 21, 1994. She was born in Person County, and came to Raleigh in 1954. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 45 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Rosemary Eury Benge of Union Grove; granddaughter, Kellene Wells Bock; great-granddaughter, Aaron and Emily Bock, all of Union Grove; sister, Frances Rimmer of High Point; many cherished nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with interment following in Berrys Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Timberlake.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street, and other times at LaQuinta Suites, Crabtree Valley.

WILLADENE "BILLIE" R. GORRELL
CHAPEL HILL -- Willadene "Billie" Rominger Gorrell, died Thursday, April 28, 1999 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a long illness.
A native of Berea, Kentucky, Mrs. Gorrell was a dedicated educator with over thirty years service in Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In retirement, she served as the Duke University Lay Chairperson for Nursing Home Care and was on the advisory panel to several pharmaceutical companies researching cancer treatment and its side effects. She was an active member of the Duke University Alzheimer's Support Group, Cancer Support Group and Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gorrell was the past president of the Swathmore, PA, teacher's union.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen; three brothers, John, Fred, and Don; and sister, Nina.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence D. Gorrell; sisters, Mary Arrants of Chattanooga, TN, and Ruth Davis of Berea, Kentucky.
Mrs. Gorrell will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She will also be missed by her numerous friends and her "chosen" family and devoted caregivers, Ukula and Francesca Nwogalanya and their children.
Services were held in Berea, KY, at the Berea Cemetery on Tuesday, May 4, and a memorial service will be held at Pittsboro United Methodist Church, Pittsboro, NC at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Duke Family Support Program, Attn: Edna Ballard, Box 3600, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 27710, the American Cancer Society, or the Youth Services Program at Pittsboro United Methodist Church.
OLIVER L. GREENE SR.
LOUISBURG -- Oliver Lynward Greene Sr., 69 OF 1382 East River Road, died May 5.
Funeral 3 p.m. Sunday, Spaulding Family Resource Center Auditorium, Spring Hope. Burial, Nelson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisburg. Rev. Sidney Dunston officiating.
Survivors: wife, Joyce Greene; daughters, Sandra F. McCall of Ervin, Deborah Greene and Dora Greene of the home, Joyce Ann McLeod of Georgia; sons, Darrell Greene of Fayetteville and Oliver Greene Jr. of Virginia; sister, Louise E. McAlerster of New York; eight grandchildren.

A. GREGORY HOWE
CARY -- Capt. Alfred Gregory Howe, (USMC-Ret), 76, of Cary, died May 5, 1999.
Mr. Howe was born in New York City, New York.
After graduation from the University of Virginia he served in the Pacific during World War II, with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was wounded in Okinawa and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. After the war, he received a pharmacy degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. He pursued a pharmacy career until retirement from Fort Gordon Army Medical Center, Augusta, Ga. He was active in the Theta Chi Alumni Association. He presently served as Comandant for the US Marine Corps League, Tarheel Detachment #733.
A funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary. The burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on May 18, 1999 at 9:00 a.m.
Mr. Howe is survived by his sons, Stuart G. Howe of Kent Washington, George H. Howe of Raleigh, and Allen G. Howe of Frederick, Maryland; daughter, Susan E. Howe Pelletier of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends, Friday May 7, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Howe was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
JESSE R. HOWELL
ENFIELD -- Jessie R. Howell, 72, died Thursday morning at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane H. Sturges of Enfield; two grandchildren, Nikki Sturges of Raleigh and Cliff Sturges of the home; one brother, Paul O. Howell of Goldsboro; three sisters, Iva H. Pittman of Rosewood, Betty H. Edmondson of Wilson and Marjorie H. Pike of Fremont; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday night from 7-8:30 at Branch Funeral Home. Graveside services 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield and will conducted by Rev. David Phillips and Doug Billups.
The family will receive at other times at 352 Holliday Dr. in Enfield.
Arrangement are being handled by Branch Funeral Home of Enfield.
ALICE S. MERCER
BENSON -- Mrs. Alice Sparks Mercer, 90, of 2204 NC 242 North, died Wednesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Smithfield. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Benson Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Kendell Cameron. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, NC.
Mrs. Mercer, born July 14, 1908, was a native of Bath in Beaufort County. She was the daughter of the late William Abner and Mattie Woolard.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse S. Sparks, Sr. and her son, Rev. Jesse S. Sparks, Jr. Upon the death of her second husband, Charlie Mercer, she moved to the Benson area where she had been a resident since 1983. Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Benson Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughter and son-n-law, Ann Sparks and Robert D. Warren of Benson; grandchildren and spouses, Robert D. "Dave" Jr. and Judy P. Warren of Dunn, Gary B. Warren of Benson, Hilda Maria and Joel Racet of Puerto Rico, Angie Sparks and Richard Floyd of Lake Murray, SC, Ann Sparks and Mark Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine great-grandchildren.
Family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson 7-9 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of Robert D. and Ann Warren, 2186 NC Hwy. 242 North, Benson.

CARY -- Lillie Pearl Parrish, 98, formerly of Greenville, AL, died April 28, 1999 in Duke University Hospital. Funeral was held in Dunklin Herndon Funeral Home. Burial was held in Greenville, AL on Sunday. May 2, 1999.
Surviving: daughter, Joy Yarnall of Cary; sister, Dorothy Naftel of Bessemer, AL; grandson, David Yarnall of Cary.

JOHN CARLISLE SHERBERT
OCT. 1, 1926 - MAY 6, 1999
RALEIGH -- John C. Sherbert, of Raleigh, NC, passed away May 6, 1999 at Rex Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in West Springs, SC to C. R. and Mary S. Sherbert.
John served in Japan as an Honor Guard for General Douglas MacArthur. He was very active in his community as a past president of Northshore Neighborhood Association, a charter member of the Exchange Club of Shamrock-Northshore, a past member of Millbrook Schools Advisory Council and the Citizens Advisory Council. He retired in 1992 as State Photogrammetric Engineer after 38 years with NCDOT.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret Wilburn Sherbert and two sons, Mark, of Union, SC and Tommy and wife, Beth, of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road. A private burial will be conducted by Reverend Karen Metcalf.

IVAN STOJILJKOVIC
RALEIGH -- Ivan Stojiljkovic, 73, died Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Rex Hospital. He was born November 26, 1925 in Kumanovo, Macedonia and received his degree from the University of Belgrade in Yugoslavia. He was a retired architect.
Ivan was a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Ruzica Stojiljkovic, daughter, Vesna S. Kidd, son-in-law, Kevin and two beloved grandsons, Evan and Ryan, who were the pride of his life.
A family memorial service is planned at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 1999.
