DOROTHY J. CLARK
ROCKY MOUNT -- Dorothy Jones Clark, 86, died Monday. She was born in Halifax County, October 1, 1912, and was the daughter of the late Edward S. and Adelaide J. Jones.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, William Davis Clark, who was the former superintendent with East Carolina Training School for boys, where Mrs. Clark served as an administrative secretary. She was active in the local women's organizations and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving: nephew, E. Lamar Sledge of New Bern; nieces, Charlotte Jones Easterling of Hopewell, VA, Martha King Tucker of Columbia, SC, Frances Estridge Bowen of Sarasota, FL; great-nieces, Kathleen Easterling of Los Angeles, CA, Ann Easterling of Richmond, VA, Elizabeth Tucker of Columbia, SC; great nephews, Stanley and Joseph Bowen, both of Sarasota, FL.
Graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Pineview Cemetery, Section 40, with Rev. William V. Grisham officiating.
The family will receive friends 12-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue.
Memorials may be made to the Clark Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church, 200 Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

KATHERINE KRUSE COLWELL
PINEHURST -- Katherine Kruse Colwell, 76, of Pinehurst, died Saturday, May 1st, at Moore Regional Hospital.
Born in East Alton, Illinois, she is predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Colwell, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Elva Kruse.
She was active in the Moore County League of Womens Voters and a past president. She was also first vice president of the NC State Board of League of Womens Voters. She was in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, B.E. Chapter, a member of the Literacy Council of Moore County, and a former president of the Knollwood Garden Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia C. Rocco, of Greensboro, NC; two sons, John Charles Colwell, of Ashland, OR and James Stephen Colwell, of Marshfield, MA; and seven grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Community Congregational Church of Southern Pines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NC League of Womens Voters-Citizen Education Foundation, 3801 Barrett Dr. Suite 204, Raleigh, NC 27609, or Sandhills Community College Horticultural Gardens, 220 Airport Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374.
Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home and Crematory.

HOMER L. COTTEN
RALEIGH -- Homer Lee Cotten, 77, of 9956 Fannie Brown Road, died Monday. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial in the church cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Ruth Austin Cotten; sons, Charles Cotten and wife, Brenda of Garner, Harold Cotten and wife, Nita of Raleigh, Derek Cotten and wife, Melanee of Clayton; daughter, Carol Poole and husband, A.T. of Raleigh; sister, Thelma Hobby of Duncan; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Weds. 5/12/99 at Sugg Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina.

JUNIUS ELBERT ENNIS
BENSON -- Junius Elbert Ennis, 78, of 1796 Old Fairground Road, died Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Providence Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark Scott. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Ennis was born September 3, 1920 in Johnston County to the late James Oscar and Callie Stephenson Ennis. He was a retired tobacco farmer and home construction contractor. Mr. Ennis was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church for 47 years and served as a Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session for eight years. Mr. Ennis had retired from the choir after singing for 45 years. He was also a US Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Banner Post 109 American Legion for 41 years with a Life Membership, Chaplain for six years, the 40 & 8, and was a Past Commander. Mr. Ennis was a member of the Johnston County Veterans Council and served as Vice President and Chaplain. He also was a member of the VFW and served as Chaplain.
Survivors include: his wife, Mabel Adams Ennis; daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Wayne Robinson of Pinehurst; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Brenda Ennis of Angier; sisters, Inez Bedgood of Angier, Lunette Cook of Garner; granddaughters and spouses, Renee and Christopher McGee of Angier, Amanda and Chad Ziady of Autryville, April Ennis of Angier, Tanya and Kevin Dillard of Holly Springs.
Family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

FALLIE J. FARRELL
APEX -- Fallie Johnson Farrell, 85, of 85 Mt. Pisgah Church Road, Apex, died at Durham Regional Hospital Monday, May 10, 1999 due to an extended illness.
She was a life long member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clyde W. Farrell in 1997.
Funeral service will be held today, May 13, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Pastor Craig Cummings, Dr. Harry Byrd and Rev. Jim Shaw will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving: four daughters, Jean Byrd and husband, Harry of Durham, Polly McAllister and husband, Bill of Fairfax, Va., Linda Hudson and husband, Bob of Clinton, S.C., Bonnie Peterson and husband, Max of Cary; son, Pete Farrell and wife, Mary of Apex; sister, Mary Jenkins of Apex; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
The familyreceived friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Apex Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the Campbell University Divinity School, P.O. Box 569 Buies Creek, N.C. 27509 or the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 1334 Mt. Pisgah Church Road, Apex, NC 27502.

GEORGE TRUMAN FORE SR.
SANFORD -- George Truman Fore Sr., 74, OF 2126 Courtland Drive, died Tuesday May 11, 1999 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
He was a native of Lee County and a retired Durham Life Insurance Company Agent. He was a charter member and deacon of Hunt Springs Baptist Church where he also served as president of the Baptist Men.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hunt Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Robbie Best and Rev. Mark Meadows. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Kelly Fore; two sons, George T. Fore Jr. of Raleigh and John B. Fore of Mills River, NC; three daughters, Brenda F. Turnipseed of Goldsboro, Dr. LaVonne K. Fore of Rome, GA., and Ann F. Howell of Sanford; two brothers, J.P. Fore of Sanford and Louis Fore of Charlotte; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the Hunt Springs Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 4015 St. Andrews Church Road, Sanford, NC 27330.

RAYMOND PEACE FRANKLIN
APEX -- Raymond Pearce Franklin, 91, a resident of Harnett Manor Nursing Home in Lillington, and former longtime resident and tobacco farmer in Apex, died Tuesday evening at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice G. Franklin; son, Ed Franklin; grandson, Bill Franklin; brothers, Frank and Joe Franklin.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999 in the Apex Funeral Home chapel, 511 W. Williams St. (Hwy. 55) in Apex. Burial will be in the Apex Cemetery.
Surviving are: daughter, Rose F. Maxwell of Woodbridge, VA; daughter-in-law, Anne W. Franklin of Apex; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the Apex Funeral Home, from 6-8 p.m. and other times at the home of Anne Franklin, 307 S. Hughes St., Apex.

MARY ESTELLE GRIGGS FULLER
RALEIGH -- Mary Estelle Griggs Fuller,of 2614 Grant Avenue, Raleigh, died on May 11, 1999 after a brief illness. She was born on May 15, 1915 in Anson County, North Carolina. Mrs. Fuller was the daughter of Allan D. Griggs and Minnie Bowman Griggs. She attended Appalachian State University and East Carolina University. Mrs. Fuller was an elementary school teacher and taught in various locations in North Carolina.
Mrs. Fuller was a member of Pullen memorial Baptist Church, where she was active in her circle and where she was a Sunday School teacher in her younger years. She was an active member of the Sir Walter Cabinet and, together with her husband, Walter E. Fuller, was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Fuller was also a long-time member of the Democratic Women of Wake County.
She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Walter E. Fuller; three children, W. Erwin Fuller, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Greensboro, David Allan Fuller of Cincinnati, OH, Mary Fuller Propers and husband, Dascheil of Raleigh; six grandchildren, David A. Fuller Jr. and wife, Stacey, Stephen P. Fuller and wife, Kirki, W. Scott Fuller and wife, Monica, Margaret Fuller, Graham E. Fuller, and Mollie Propes; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Griggs McLaughlin of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Raleigh.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.

GARLAND STEWARD GOSWICK
FRANKLINTON -- Garland Steward Goswick, 72, of 439 S. Cheatham St., died May 11, 1999 in Rex Hospital. He was a retired postal employee, a veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Post 52 and a member of Franklinton Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Hixie Wheeler and Henry Goswick.
He was predeceased by a son, Mathew and a brother, Henry Tucker Goswick.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sandling Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clyde L. Waiden, Jr. officiating. Burial, Fairview Cemetery.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Steward and Melodie Goswick of Youngsville; sister, Joyce G. Roberts of Franklinton; grandson, Jacob Goswick; several nieces and nephews.
Family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sandling Funeral Home.

N. WEST MATTIS
CHAPEL HILL -- N. West Mattis, son of Margaret Mattis Knoerr and the late Norman W. Mattis died at his home in Chapel Hill. He was 49.
West is survived by his sister, Susan Mattis of Boston, MA; brothers, Frederick Mattis of Annapolis, MD, W. Benton Mattis of Townsend, MA.
A service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999 at the Episcopal Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of your choice or to the Orange County Alliance for the Mentally ill.

PAULINE B. PEARSON
WILSON -- Pauline Bass Pearson, 91, died Wednesday. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Eastern Star and the Wilson Home Demonstration Club. Funeral 11:00 a.m. Saturday, New Hope Baptist Church. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Robert A. Pearson Jr. of Wilson and William R. Pearson and his wife, Ruth of Greensboro; grandchildren, Paula Jo Pearson of Raleigh, William R. "Rich" Pearson Jr. of Franklin, Robert A. Pearson III of Deatsville, AL and Lee Ferrell Pearson of Williamston; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ada Belle Shirley, Mary Elizabeth Baker and Lucinda Brewer all of Wilson.
Memorials are suggested to Hometown Hospice, 1705 S. Tarboro Street, Wilson, NC 27893 or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 9, Wilson, NC 27894.
The family will be at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Service, Friday 7-8:30 p.m.

LAWRENCE BELL RACKLEY
FARMVILLE -- Mr. Lawrence Bell Rackley, age 86, of 115 Melissa Drive, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at Beverly Health Care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the First Baptist Church in Farmville. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
Born September 2, 1912, Mr. Rackley was a native of Clinton, NC and had been a resident of Farmville since 1948. An electrician, Mr. Rackley owned and operated Rackley Electric Co. An avid sportsman, he was a charter member of the Pitt County Wildlife Club and a member of Quail Unlimited. He was a dedicated member of the Farmville First Baptist Church and the Farmville Lions Club. Mr. Rackley was preceded in death by a son, Shelton E. Rackley, a son-in-law, Milton J. Elks, a sister, Madge Saleet, and brothers, Horace, Arthur, and Walter.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillie Strickland Rackley of the home; son, Sherrell Rackley and wife, Sylvia of Smithfield; daughters, Gloria R. Elks of Farmville and Barbara R. Varley and husband, David of Sims; sister, Brianna Smith of Turkey; brothers, Claude Rackley of Clinton, Parker Rackley of Smyrna, Tennessee, and A. D. Rackley of Little River, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral Home, 7-9 p.m. Friday evening and other times at the residence.
