ELNORA (JANET) ROGERS
DURHAM -- Mrs. Elnora (Janet) Rogers, 65, a resident of 2565 Smith Rd., Oxford, died Wednesday at Durham Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of Verena King Sorrell and the late George Wayne Rogers. She retired from American Tobacco Company after 35 years service.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Rogers is survived by a son, Waylon T. Rogers of Oxford; four sisters, Geneva Goodwin, Bobbie Henson and Elwanda Wright, all of Raleigh and Seretha Mitchell of Durham; one grandchild, Michelle and husband, Damien Harris of Henderson, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7-9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

BRENDA BAILEY TALTON
RALEIGH -- Brenda June Bailey Talton, 55, of 7904 Round Oak Road, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at her home. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999 at Six Forks Baptist Church Cemetery, 9130 Baileywick Road.
Surviving: son, Christopher Lee Council of Selma, Stephen Ray Talton of Four Oaks; three grandchildren; sisters, Emily B. Ennis of Raleigh, Eddy Bailey of Butner.
Family will remain at the home at all times.

WILLIAM ROGER SHEARIN SR.
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- William Roger Shearin, Sr., 88, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, October 13, 1999 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. He was born in Weldon on March 4, 1911 to the late John Warren and Eugenia Maniza Kilpatrick Shearin. Mr. Shearin was the last surviving child of 15 brothers and sisters. He worked over 30 years as a pipefitter before his retirement in 1982. He was also a 32rd Degree Mason.
Mr. Shearin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Buford Harlow, a resident of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility in Roanoke Rapids; a son Roger and his family, wife, Carolyn and children, Matthew, Melissa, and Abbey, all of Chesterfield, VA; daughter, Susan of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Branch Funeral Home Chapel at 839 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids. Rev. D. Wayne Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC with full Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, October 15, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at Branch Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.

CARLYLE ASKEW
AHOSKIE -- Mr. Carlyle Askew, 84, died Thursday, October 14, 1999, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Ahoskie by Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Askew was a native of Hertford County and lived most of his life in the Ahoskie area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and agribusinessman, and for many years he was Northeastern North Carolina district saleman for Roberson Fertilizer Co., W.R. Grace & Co. and Tidewater Chemical Corp.
Mr. Askew is survived by his wife, Violet Cross Askew of the home; a son, Edward C. Askew and wife Jean L. of Greenville; a daughter, Carolyn A. Williams and husband, Jerry of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, O'Quinn Askew of Ahoskie; two sisters, Janice Mitchell of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jane Weber of Stillwater, New York; three grandchildren, Kimberly Kramer of Raleigh, Doug Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Eric Askew of Greenville, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 Saturday night at the Garrett Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie Building Fund, P.O. Box 649, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

RUTH W. ATKINSON
LUCAMA -- Ruth Williams Atkinson, 88, died Wednesday. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel, Wilson. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Edith Askew of Lucama and Edna Williamson of Kenly; son, Dolan H. Atkinson of Lucama; sisters, Betty Downs of Jacksonville, Bobbie Branch of Raeford; brother, Fred Williams of Greenville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of Donald and Edna Williamson, 1546 Piney Grove Church Road, Kenly.
Memorials are suggested to Little Rock FWB Church, PO Box 298, Lucama NC 27851.

LOTTIE MOONEYHAM BAGWELL
LOUISBURG -- Lottie Mooneyham Bagwell, "Nannie", 77, of Louisburg, died Thursday, October 14, 1999. Mrs. Bagwell lived in Raleigh, in historic Oakwood, until six years ago. She was retired from Nowell's in Cameron Village. Mrs. Bagwell loved baseball and fishing.
Mrs. Bagwell is survived by two sons, Ricky D. Bagwell, of Zebulon and Joseph Bagwell of Raleigh; a daughter, Judy B. Driver of Louisburg; a brother, E. W. Mooneyham of Raleigh; two sisters, Nell Tyson and Hazel Stallings, both of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Tammy Driver of Rocky Mount and Kelli, Shane and Troy Bagwell, all of Raleigh; and a great-grandchild, Shana Bagwell.
Mrs. Bagwell was preceded in death by her husband, Donnell Bagwell in 1978.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, October 15, from 7-9 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

TROY B. BAKER JR.
MARCH 1, 1932 - OCT. 13, 1999
WENDELL -- Troy Bryant Baker Jr., 67, of 1425 Pleasants Rd., died Wednesday morning at Wake Med. He was retired from IBM.
Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Katie Batchelor and Troy B. Baker Sr.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 15, 1999 at Social Plains Baptist Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
Surviving wife, Irene Holder Baker; daughter, Brenda B. King of Newport; sons, Bryan P. Baker of Hubert and James G. Baker and wife, Lisa of Kernersville; stepson, James Rodney Holder and wife, Tina of Knightdale; brother and sister-in-law, James P. and Frances Baker of Rougemont; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Flowers accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605; or to Social Plains Baptist Church, 639 Hagwood Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597.

CHARLES R. BASSETT
LAFAYETTE, CO -- Charles Richard Bassett, 64, retired employee of IBM, former resident of Apex, NC, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999 in Lafayette, CO.
The family will hold a graveside service at his home in Pennsylvania.
Surviving: wife, Barbara Bassett; daughters, Gina Troublefield and her husband, Chad; two grandchildren, Tyler and Dakota, all of Apex, NC; father, Richard Denkenberger of Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends from 10-12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999 at 1433 Old Ivey Rd, Apex, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

ADDIE PHILLIPS BRIDGES
MACCLESFIELD -- Addie Phillips Bridgers, 90, died Thursday.
Graveside service will be held Saturday 11 a.m., Macclesfield Cemetery. with Rev. Don Steffa officiating.
She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Bridgers.
Surviving: daughter, Racheal Ayers of Oak City; son, William Bridgers of Macclesfield; sister, Daisy Cady of Florida; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Family will be receiving friends at Carlisle Funeral Home, Friday from 7-8 p.m.

MINNIE SPENCER GRANT
JACKSON -- Mrs. Minnie Spencer Grant, 92, died Oct. 14, 1999 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mrs. Grant was a native of Hyde County, and the daughter of the late Rev. Rufus R. Grant and Laura Elizabeth Carter Grant.
She was a retired teacher and graduated from Duke University. She was the wife of the late E.B. Grant Sr. and a member of Jackson United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth "Bettie" Grant Wills of Southern Shores; a son, E.B. Grant Jr. and his wife, Jane Harris Grant of Weldon; sister, Etta Beal Grant Vick of Seaboard; five grandchildren, Jim Wills, Laura Mitchell, Greg Wills, Gene Grant, Russ Grant and four great grandchildren, Spencer Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, Jacob Grant, Sam Wills. Also a very special family friend, Joe Cole and Gaga Daughtrey.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 16, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Jackson United Methodist Church by Rev. Jo Hancock. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson United Methodist church, Jackson, NC 27845.

BOBBY RAY HARRIS
APEX -- Bobby Ray Harris, 65, of 2801 Woodfield Rd., died Tuesday. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Home UCC Church. Burial in Apex First Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Mary Ellen Harris; daughter, Sonya Wilson Mangum (Samuel); grandchildren, Deonna and Sam, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Burrell, Ms. Lucy Harris and Mrs. Lillie Jackson, all of Apex, NC; one brother, James Otis Harris (Barbara) of East Orange, NJ.
Visitation today 7-8 p.m. at Albright Funeral Home Chapel.

FRED HAZARD
CHAPEL HILL -- Ret. Lt. Col. Fred Hazard a long time Chapel Hill resident died at home on Saturday, October 9, 1999.
Fred is survived by his sister, Bertha French of Alatha, Kansas, and his two sons and their families: Alan Hazard, wife, Sarah and their three children, Alan Fred Jr., Terry Ashley and Amy Michelle, all of Savannah GA, Skip Massey and wife, Sylvia of Cape Coral, Florida.
A Mass will be held at St. Thomas More 11 a.m. Friday, October 22 and a memorial gathering will be held Saturday, October 23 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Country Club.
Contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

HELEN P. JACKSON
EDENTON -- Helen Perry Jackson, 79, died Wednesday, October 13, 1999 in Britthaven. Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Etta Hughes and Zola Perry. Mrs. Jackson was the wife of Tommy Jackson.
Surviving other than her husband is two sisters, Edna Perry Taylor of Merry Hill, Virginia Perry Earley of Chesapeake, VA.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 1999 in the Beaver Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ashby Browder officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad, 208 W. Hicks Street, Edenton, NC 27932.
The Evans Funeral Home of Edenton is serving the Jackson family.
