MYRTLE P. JOHNSON
OAK CITY -- Mrs. Myrtle Price Johnson, a retired teacher, died Thursday, October 13, 1999. A native of Anson Co. She was born to the late Edward and Lula Newton Price on January 15, 1909. Receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina Teachers College she taught in the public schools of North Carolina for 31 years.
Her husband, J.C. Johnson preceded her in death in 1989.
A funeral service will be held from the Oak City Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in the Oak City Cemetery.
Surviving: son, James B. Johnson of Ocracoke; daughter, Connie J. Harrell of Robersonville; brother, Joel Price of Lylesville; four grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Oak City Baptist Church.

DAMON LAMONT JOHNSON
AUGUST 11, 1971-OCT. 12, 1999
RALEIGH -- Damon Lamont Johnson, 28, of 2448 Sunnystone Way died on Tuesday morning, October 12, 1999. Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of Eugene and Gayle H. Johnson. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, October 16, 1999, at Watts Chapel Baptist Church. Visitation to begin at 11:30 a.m. Burial takes place at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Also surviving are: his brother, Jarriel; his sister, Hiliary and a grandmother, Mrs. Virginia R. Hilton of Roanoke, VA; a host of other relatives and friends.

NORAELL W. JONES
RALEIGH -- Noraell W. Jones, 87, of Raleigh, died Friday, October 8, 1999. Funeral 1 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Johnston Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial church cemetery.
Her husband, James A. Jones preceded her in death.
She is survived by daughters, Alice F. Stringer of Dallas, TX, Rev. Janice J. Davis (Bobby) of Raleigh; sons, James E. Jones of Louisville, KY, Pastor John A. Jones (Betty) of Anchorage, AK, Joe N. Jones (Barbara) of Rapid City, SD, Jerry D. Jones (Sylvia) of Ft. Washington, MD, Johnny L. Jones of Raleigh; sisters, Julie Morgan and Bertha Terry, both of Clayton; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at 2800 Scarlet Oak Place.

DAPHNE E. LEONARD
GREENSBORO -- Dr. William Thomas Smith, 96, of 103 Butternut Rd. passed away on October 13, 1999 in Greensboro after a long illness.
A private memorial service for the family will be held on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Jamestown United Methodist Church.
The son of the late Dr., and Mrs. William T. Smith, Sr. (Emma Underwood), he was born in Clinton and reared in Wilmington. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Avery Reagan Smith, a native of Reagan Station, TN. He was also predeceased by one brother, Dr. Junius C. Smith, and two sisters, Miss Octavia Smith and Mrs. Frances Shelhart, all of Wilmington.
He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and earned his graduate degrees at the Ohio State University. He was a professor of chemistry at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for 45 years. He was also a consultant to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and an instructor at the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies. He was a 71 year member of the American Chemical society and served as chairman of the East Tennessee Section. He was a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Chi Sigma and also served on the Manhattan Project.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sidney and Elizabeth (Ebie) Padgett of the home; grandchildren, Carl Padgett and wife, Brenda of Duluth, GA, Elizabeth Reep and husband, Bryan of Durham, William Padgett and wife, Diane of Durham, Julia Jones and husband, Martin of Jamestown. He is survived by seven great-granddaughters, Kelley and Sara Padgett of Duluth, GA, Avery, Emily, and Allison Reep, and Reagan and Annie Padgett, all of Durham. He is also survived by two brothers, Dr. James H. Smith and Mr. Jack W. Smith both of Wilmington; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the residence on Butternut Rd.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is assisting the family.

DAPHNE ETHEL ELLER LEONARD
LANSING -- Daphne Ethel Eller Leonard, age 73, widow of George Alan Leonard, died October 13, 1999 in Lansing, NC after an extended illness. She earned her BS and Masters degrees in Home Economics and later her Masters of Library Sciences at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She began her career in education by working with the NC State Dept. of Instruction. She later worked as the librarian at First Baptist Church in Greensboro and retired in 1994 as the Media Specialist at Ashe Central High School.
She is survived by three daughters, Theresa Leonard Lewis, Nancy Leonard Schuder, and Elizabeth Leonard Paulson; seven grandchildren; a sister, Laura Nan Wasserman of Lansing; a brother, Morris Eller of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church in Jefferson, NC. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. in the church parlor. Interment will be at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

M. GERALDINE "JERRY" M. LUNDQUIST
RALEIGH -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of M. Geraldine "Jerry" Hollars Lundquist will be held Sunday, October 17, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, 4408 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC.

CHARLES JENNINGS MCCOTTER
BAYBORO -- Charles Jennings McCotter, Jr., 76 died Wednesday, October 13, 1999 at Britthaven of Pamlico. Mr. McCotter was a native of Pamlico County. He retired as Pamlico Co. Health Director after serving 32 years. He was Past President of NC Mosquito Control Association and Past President of National Mosquito Control Association. He was a member of Vandemere United Methodist Church and Bayboro United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 1999, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Weber and Rev. Roach officiating. Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home just prior to the service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances G. McCotter on August 27, 1999.
He is survived by his son, Charles J. (Buddy) McCotter III and his wife Ruth of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, Alton N. McCotter of Wilmington and Billy G. McCotter of Morehead City; three grandchildren, Stepahnie McCotter Weatherspoon and her husband William of Raleigh, Laura McCotter Fricano and her husband Jeff of Charlotte, Dr. Craig Jennings McCotter of Charleston, SC; one great-granddaughter, Emily Catherine Weatherspoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vandemere United Methodist Church or Bayboro United Methodist Church.

HORACE C. PERRY
SEPT. 5, 1923 - OCT. 13, 1999
WENDELL -- Horace Councail Perry, 76, of 2721 Wendell Blvd., died Wednesday night at Rex Hospital. He was a retired supervisor of the maintenance and carpentry division of the Wake County School Systems for 31 years and a self employed builder. Born in Wake County he was the son of the late Loutora Batchelor Perry and Harris R. Perry. Mr. Perry was a WWII Veteran having served with the US Navy. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #148, Wendell Masonic Lodge # 565, the Sudan Temple and a deacon of the Wendell Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the Wendell Baptist Church with Dr. Baxter Prevatte and Reverend Charles McMillan officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery.
Surviving: his wife, Dorothy Glover Perry; son and daughter-in-law, William H. Perry and Denise M. Perry of Raleigh; granddaughter, Jennifer D. Perry of Raleigh; brothers, Herbert Perry and Robert Perry, both of Zebulon and Vernon L. Perry of Lamar, SC; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wendell Baptist Church, PO Box 187, Wendell, NC 27591.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell; other times at the home.

ALEXANDER M. SALOMON
HILLSBOROUGH -- Alexander Michelin Salomon, 87, a resident of Hillsborough, died Monday, October 11, after a lengthy illness. He was born in 1912, in Newark, NJ. He and his late wife, Anne,lived in New York City and 35 years in Bergen County, NJ. They moved to Hillsborough in 1978. He was a member of the Hillsborough United Methodist Church and past administrative board member. He was the co-founder of the Methodist Church Courier with his late wife, Anne. He was a member of the Hillsborough Exchange Club, past president of the Exchange Club recipient of the Exchangite of the year in 1983 and 1988. He also was recipient of the book Golden Deeds. He was a Mason with the Grand Lodge of the State of New York. He was a past volunteer with the Durham County Hospital Auxillary for over 15 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Michelin Salomon Faulkner of Hillsborough; son-in-law, Michael Ross Faulkner; and one grandson, Michelin Blair Faulkner.
A memorial service will be held at the Hillsborough United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 13, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 15, at 11 a.m. in the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsborough United Methodist Church Lift Fund, 130 W. Tryon St., Hillsborough, NC 27278.
Arrangements are by Clements Funeral Service of Hillsborough.

DONALD E. SEGNERI
MONTERREY, MEXICO -- Donald E. Segneri, 42, of Monterrey, Mexico and formerly of Peoria, IL, died 6:30 p.m. Monday, October 11, 1999 at the Western Wake Hospital in Cary, NC. Born February 28, 1957 in Ames, Iowa to Alfred J. and Betty Lendman Segneri. He married Kristen Lynne Nimm on July 17, 1999 in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
Surviving are his wife of Mexico; his mother, Betty (Bob) Arnold of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Sarah Segneri of Wilmington, NC, and Rachel Segneri of Apex, NC; four brothers, David (Kris) Segneri of Carlock, IL, Mike (Marie) Segneri of South Hampton, NJ, Tom (Theresa) Segneri of Peoria and Tim (Lori) Segneri of Oceanside, CA; two sisters, Lynn (Dan) Ebker of Streator, IL and Teresa (Dave) Sills of Peoria.
Preceded in death by his father and a infant sister.
He was Technical Services Manager for Caterpillar, Inc., in Mexico. He was a graduate of DeVry Institute of Electronic Technology in Chicago. A 1990 graduate of Bradley University where he received a degree in Engineering. Received his MBA in August 1999 from the University of North Carolina.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with Rev. William A. Watson officiating. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one half hour before services. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross.

HARRY D. DEWEY
RALEIGH -- Harry D. Dewey, 80, of Raleigh died Monday, October 4, 1999 at Western Wake Hospital. Mr. Dewey was born on April 27, 1919 in Salling, Michigan. He was the youngest son of William and Lily Coutts.
Mr. Dewey is preceded in Death by a daughter, Patricia Gail who died in 1956, his first wife, Anita M. Dewey who died on February 22, 1982, and a daughter, Marrilynn D. Broughman, who died in 1996. Prior to his retirement in 1978 he had been employed by Lufkin Rule Company, Division of Cooper Industries as a foreman for most of 37 years. He was a member of Piney Plains United Church of Christ and held various offices of the church. Mr. Dewey also held many offices of the community in which he lived. He married Geneva Jeffreys on November 7, 1982. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Piney Plains United Church of Christ. The burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Dr. Dace Lewis and Rev. David Finley will officiate.
Mr. Dewey is survived by his wife, Geneva Oliver Dewey; daughters, Janet D. Prince, and her husband, Clifton of Apex and Nancy Davis, and her husband, John of Smyrna, TN; step-daughter, Janet "J.J." Wynne and her husband, Stanley of Raleigh; stepson, Ronnie Jeffreys and his wife, Jan of Raleigh; brother, Donald Coutts of Woodstock, GA; grandsons, David Davis and Craig Davis; step-grandchildren, David Jeffreys, Holly Jeffreys, Sandra P. Cooper Sammy R. Prince and Sonya P. Jones; and a step-great-granddaughter, Stephanie Jones.
Memorial contributions may be made to Piney Plains United Church of Christ, 2801 Piney Road, Cary, NC 27511

GARNER -- Robert Earl "Bob" Berry, Jr., 70, of 210 Bagwell Street, died Tuesday.
Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: wife, Thelma Beasley Berry; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra B. Gaddy and Alan Gaddy of Garner; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy E. Berry and Debbie Berry of Pensacola, FL, Robert E. Berry III and Teresa Berry of Garner and William G. Berry and Carol Berry of Raleigh; brothers, George King of Clayton, Frank King of Lakeland, FL, and John King of FL; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee, Garner.
