RALEIGH -- Gray Pace Kemp, 65,of 3120 Edgetone Dr., Raleigh, died Saturday, October 30, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at The Norman Screws Chapel of Family Funeral Care, Zebulon, NC. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope, NC.
Mrs. Kemp is survived by a son, Marshall Kemp and wife, Vicki of Raleigh; a daughter, Anita Smith and husband Don of Cary; a life-long friend, Dan Perry of Raleigh; brothers, V. A. Pace of Spring Hope and Wayne Pace of Cary; sister, Janice Pace of Spring Hope; three grandchildren, Matthew and Nicole Kemp and Lauren Smith.

LILLIE MAE (SALLY) TAYLOR
RALEIGH -- Lillie Mae (Sally) Taylor, 71, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 30, 1999. Mrs. Taylor was born in Wake County. She was a retired supervisor with the NC Division of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Raleigh.
Surviving are her husband, Coy; daughter, Diane Faison of Raleigh; son, James Earl of Wake Forest; stepchildren, Ken Taylor and Brenda Ludgate; sisters, Susie Sandy, Hallie Carter, Jean Overton, and Frances Collins, all of Louisburg, and Betty Lou Scheiner of Idaho; brothers, Ijar (Bo) Carter and Elvin Rogers, both of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Friends may visit at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Monday 7-9 p.m.
SUSAN B. WOOD
CHAPEL HILL -- Susan B. Wood, 55, of Chapel Hill, died at her home Sunday morning.
Funeral 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Catholic Newman Center with Father Philip Leach officiating.
She is survived by a sister, Judith B. Howard of Chapel Hill; three stepsons, Jim Wood of Texas, John Wood of Graham and Stephen Wood of Graham and Stephen Wood of Cary; five grandchildren and a niece and a nephew.
Burial will be at a later date in Warm Springs, GA.
Local arrangements are by Walkers Funeral Home, Chapel Hill.

JAMES W. "LEGS" BRYANT, JR.
HOBGOOD -- James W. "Legs" Bryant, Jr., 76, a retired employee of Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, died Sunday, February 14, 1999 at Wake Medical Center after a brief illness. He was Mayor of Hobgood, was active in the United Methodist Church, was a 58 year veteran of the U.T.U., he was a member of the Twin County Masonic Lodge Number 257, Rocky Mount, a Shriner in the Sudan Temple, and served on Temple, and served on numerous civic boards and commissions.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, at the Letchworth Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hobgood Cemetery in Hobgood.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Juanita Staton Bryant; daughter, Billie Bryan of Burlington; sons, J.W. Bryant, III and wife, Deborah of Kernersville, Wayne Bryant and wife, Ginger of Laurinburg, Phil Bryant and wife, Blanche of Scotland Neck, Wesley Bryant of the home; seven grandchildren; sister, Verna Respass of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Hilda Bryan, brother, Henry Bryan, son Eddie Bryant; grandson, John Wesley Bryant.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.

VIOLA E. CUDDINGTON
TARBORO -- Viola Ezzell Cuddington, 86, died Sunday, February 14, 1999 at Beverly Health Care Center in Tarboro. She was born August 1, 1912, in Nash County, the daughter of the late H.J. Ezzell and Sallie Carter Ezzell. Ms. Cuddington was preceded in death by her husband Luther C. Cuddington, by her son, Horace "Joe" Cuddington and her daughter, Jeanette "Jacky" Farrow. Ms. Cuddington was a loving mother and grandmother and she was a member of Marvin Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Charles E. Cuddington of New Bern; daughter, Kacie Cuddington of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Amos Curtis Ezzell; sisters, Zettie Bone and Sallie Hines, both of Rocky Mount; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Bossolono officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC.

ELM CITY -- Alvis V. Greene, 82, of the Wilbanks community, died Sunday, February 14, 1999.
Funeral, Wednesday, 2 p.m., Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel, Wilson. Interment, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.
Surviving: wife, Mildred Lilley Greene; daughters, Kathy Reed of Wilson, Margaret Harrell of Arapahoe; son, Thomas V. Green of Hampton, Va.; brothers, Marvin Green of Wilson, William and Atlas Green of Elm City; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

JOHN RICHARD GREINER
RALEIGH -- John Richard Greiner, 78, of Raleigh, died Monday. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Carolina House of Cary, 111 MacArthur Dr., Cary. Burial will be at a later date in Bethlehem, PA.
Mr. Greiner is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Peter Cranford of Raleigh; daughter, Molly Greiner of Raleigh; brother, Harry Greiner of Bethlehem, PA; and grandsons, Patrick and Andrew Cranford of Raleigh.

REV. GEORGE L. HOCUTT
BURGAW -- Rev. George Lemuel Hocutt, 95, died Sunday, February 14, 1999 at Cypress Glen Retirement Community. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Burgaw Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Park with Masonic Rites. Rev. John Peverett, Rev. Dan Sellars and Rev. Michael Parnell will officiate.
Rev. Hocutt, one of 15 children of Jefferson Davis Hocutt and Katie Murray Hocutt of the Ashton community of Pender County, graduated from high school at Buies Creek Academy, now Campbell University. He attended Wingate Junior College and graduated from Wake Forest College in 1928. He taught three years in Stedman, NC before finishing at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in 1934.
Rev. Hocutt was an active minister in the Southern Baptist denomination for 31 years, serving churches across North Carolina, including Matthews, Charlotte, Norwood, Fayetteville, and Ridgecrest. Following retirement, he returned to Rocky Point in Pender County in 1968, and served as interim pastor at Friendly Community Baptist Church for 15 years. Rev. Hocutt, a former member of Rocky Point Baptist Church was an active member of the Burgaw Baptist Church for many years including serving a tenure as deacon at age 90. He was a member of the Mens Sunday School class and of the King Soloman Masonic Lodge #138 and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Burgaw Rotary Club.
His wife of 53 years, Ada Margaret Bowden Hocutt, died in 1990.
Rev. Hocutt is survived by his sister, Louise Hocutt Turner of Wilmington; daughter, Margaret Hocutt Ramsdell and her husband, Dr. Michael Ramsdell of Greenville; two grandchildren, Charles Michael Ramsdell II of Greenville, Jennifer Elise Ramsdell of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Miriam "Tinsy" Casey of Rocky Point.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Harrell's Funeral Home in Burgaw.

RALEIGH -- Mrs. Ann Hoppe Ingersoll of Raleigh, died February 14, 1999 at her home.
Mrs. Ingersoll was born in Springfield, Mo., the youngest daughter of Herman and Rose Hoppe. She lived much of her life in Arlington, Va. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington, D.C. until her retirement.
Mrs. Ingersoll is survived by her husband, Verne; son, Verne II and his wife, Barbara; two grandchildren, Gail and David.
Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, Va. Burial will follow in Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, Va.

MARION MAURER
RALEIGH -- Marion Maurer, 64, of 1401 Elberon Place, died early Sunday morning, February 14, 1999 at Rex Hospital. She was born March 19, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY. Before moving to Raleigh in 1971 she lived many years in Bogota, NJ.
Surviving are her loving husband, Frank Maurer; daughters, Mary Ellen Garrison and husband Mark, Paula Totman and husband Gary, all of Raleigh; sons, Michael Maurer of Raleigh, Thomas Maurer and wife Cindy of Lawrenceville, GA and James Maurer of Raleigh; sisters, Georgianna Lesko of Angier and Laurine Frisch and husband Robert of Lodi, NJ; nine grandchildren, Nicole and Melissa Brandenburg, Alex Totman, Kristen and Kathryn Garrison, Lauren Maurer, Thomas (T.J.), Kyle and Lucas Maurer.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Road on Tuesday, February 16, 1999 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

IRA L. McDOWELL
ASHEBORO -- Ira L. McDowell, 93, formerly of 177 Farmer Road, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gary Phaup and Rev. Boyd Byerly. Burial, Randolph Memorial Park.
Mr. McDowell was a native of Randolph County and a member of Pleasant Union United Church of Christ. He had been a Sunday school teacher for both the men's and youth classes and he had also been the Sunday school superintendent. He was educated in Randolph County Schools and Edwards Business College in High Point. Mr. McDowell worked for Reynolds Tobacco Company and later was a partner in General Wholesale Company. He then, along with his wife the late Ruth Holleman McDowell, owned and operated Realty Assistance Inc. Among his many business and civic activities was his work as a member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army and he was Director Emeritus of Randolph Bank and Trust Company. He was active in the Republican Party, served on the Randolph County Board of Commissioners, and was its chairman from 1956-1970.
Survivors: son, Richard McDowell of Linglestown, Pa.; sisters, Vida McDowell of Thomasville, Imogene McDowell Ridge of Denton, Lois McDowell Staley of Prince George, Va.; brothers, Rev. George McDowell, Alvin McDowell and Casper McDowell, all of Asheboro; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

KATHARINE F. MIDDLETON
RALEIGH -- Funeral services for Katharine Fleming Middleton, 90, of Decatur, Ga., formerly of Raleigh, who died Saturday, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
