THELMA B. VINSON
MURFREESBORO -- Thelma Brown Vinson, 85, formerly of the 400 block of Carolina Drive, died July 8, 1999, in Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley, Rich Square, N.C.
Mrs. Vinson was born in Hertford County and was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church. She was the widow of Doc Lee Vinson.
Survivors include a son, Carroll Vinson of Greer, S.C.; sister, Frances Cole of Murfreesboro; brother, James Brown of Potecasi; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 in Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Billy C. Sellers.
The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, from 7-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorial donations may be made to Meherrin Baptist Church Building Fund.
Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements.

AVER WALKER
RALEIGH -- Aver C. Walker, 108, of 1114 Upchurch Street, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999. Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 at Poplar Springs United Church of Christ. Visitation at the church will precede the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment takes place in the church cemetery.
Survivors: one son, L.C. Walker; three grandchildren, James Walker, twins, Roger and Raymond Jones; niece, Amanda C. Woodard; one nephew; great-nephew, Charles Chavis. She also leaves a very good friend, Annie Bell Buffaloe Davis, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

W. VESTER BOYKIN
MARCH 19, 1919 -- MAY 17, 1999
WENDELL -- William Vester Boykin, 80, of 7550 Applewhite Rd., died Monday evening at his home. He was a well known retired farmer in the Wendell community. Born in Wilson County, he was the son of the late Floyd Harvey Boykin and Emma Cooper Boykin.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Jackson and Reverend Perry Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving his wife of 60 years, Ethel Creech Boykin; sisters, Hilda Watkins of Raleigh, Dorothy Beaman of Wendell, Thelma Ellen, Lida Church and Eunice Hinnant all of Wilson, Beatrice Morris of Rock Ridge; brother, Evel Boykin of Kenly; several special nieces and nephews; special friend, Wilson Garner of Middlesex.
He was predeceased by his brother and sisters; Floyd E. Boykin, Bursie Johnson, Lela Vaughan and Rachel Watkins.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1728, Hawley Rd., Kenly, NC 27542.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home.

VINCENT JAMES COLUCCI
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Vincent James Colucci, 34, passed away on May 15, 1999 after a long battle with leukemia.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Fuquay-Varina.
Mr. Colucci was employed as a Regional Loss Prevention/Safety Specialist with Harris Teeter, Inc. for the past five years. He was a volunteer coach in the Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Triangle Juvenile Diabetes. Foundation. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Sue Colucci. He was the son of Fred and Mary Colucci of New Port Richey, FL; brother, Thomas Colucci of Columbus, OH, Michael Colucci of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Elizabeth Jordan of St. Petersburg, FL and twin sister Patricia Burton of New Port Richey, FL.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19, 1999 from 6-9 p.m. at Sugg Funeral Home, 201 E. Main St., Fuquay-Varina, 552-2211. A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. today.

JOE A. TAYLOR
SELMA -- Joe A. Taylor, 21, died Sunday, May 16, 1999. Memorial service 2 p.m. Thursday, McLaurin Funeral Home chapel. Dr. Daniel Lichtenwalner officiating.
He was formerly of Louisiana. He was employed by J.T. Taylor Paint Company.
He is survived by: parents, Roy and Dorothy O. Taylor of Raleigh; sister, Amanda Hope Taylor of Pittsboro; brothers, Vance Taylor of Clayton, Roy Taylor of Garner, Jason Taylor of Benson, Sam Taylor of Clayton, Travis Taylor of Pittsboro; paternal step grandmother, Patricia Taylor of Lexington; a host of aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Sam and Juanita Taylor; maternal grandparents, Warren and Frankie Oser.

JAMES A. ARNOLD SR.
RALEIGH -- James Allen Arnold, Sr., 75, died Sunday, May 16, 1999 at his home. He was born October 11, 1923 in Rock Hill, SC, a son of the late William Alfred and Margaret Hall Arnold. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Raleigh; A World War II veteran, retiring as a Colonel in the US Army Reserve; a self employed contractor and real estate broker and a former sanitary engineer with the City of Raleigh. He graduated from VPI with a degree in Civil Engineering, and received his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University.
While serving in the US Army from 1943-1946, he served as a Combat Liaison Officer with the Yolk Forces and Chinese Combat Command, as an instructor and advisor to Chinese forces. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with Three Battle Stars for the YFOS Operation, Chinese Offensive and Defensive Campaigns, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, and was awarded the Chinese Order of the Floating Cow and the Grand Star of Honor.
Survivors include: daughter, Janet House of Ayden; sons, James A. Arnold, Jr. and Robert Wagner, both of Raleigh; aunt, Lillian Bryant of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, William A. Arnold of Sun City West, AZ, Thomas W. Arnold of Belpre, OH; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ray Arnold, and a granddaughter, Shannon Ray Johnson.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael Catholic Church, with Fr. Bill Ryan officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609.

LELIA HURST AYCOCK
DURHAM -- Mrs. Lelia Hurst Aycock, 94, of 3814 Angier Avenue, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Durham Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Aycock was a native of Wake County and had been a resident of Durham for 70 years. She was the daughter of the late Robert "Lon" and Myrtle Lewter Hurst and was the widow of Benjamin F. Aycock who died August 31, 1970. She was a retired employee of the American Tobacco Company and was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years and also was a substitute teacher.
Surviving are one daughter, Billie Aycock Wright of Springfield, Ohio; one brother, Clyde Hurst of Garner; one sister, Iola Hurst Emory of Durham; five grandchildren, Deana Buckallew, Alan Pelton, Mark Pelton, Trayce Pelton, and Joy Stephenson; and 7 great-grandchildren, Tammy Pelton, Greg Pelton, David deReyna, Scott Pelton, Stephanie Pelton, Stephen Duncan and Mekeisha Duncan. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Michael Dean Pelton.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O'Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be tonight from 7-9 p.m. at the Hudson Funeral Home.

ROGER HARRISON BAKER
APEX -- Roger Harrison Baker, 91, of 724 S. Hughes St., died Sunday morning at home. He was a retired residential painting contractor, and WWII veteran. He was predeceased by his wife, Cozie Wood Baker in 1993. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 in the Apex Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Phil Qualls will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Peggy J. Singleton of Apex; granddaughters, Kristie Michelle Singleton and fiancee, Wayne Williford of Clayton, Sherrie Diane Groce and husband, Travis of Willow Springs; step-great-grandson, Cody Groce; brothers, Carl E. Baker of Benson, Douglas E. Baker of Sacramento, CA, John L. Baker of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Erma L. Hood of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.Wednesday at the Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St. (Hwy. 55) in Apex, and other times a

W. GORDON CARVER, SR.
ROXBORO -- W. Gordon Carver, Sr., died, May 18, 1999, at the age of 81, after a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Roxboro. He was the founder of the Carver Agency, Inc., as well as, Carver Bumpass Carver, Inc. He served his country for four years during WWII in the US Navy. Mr. Carver was a lifelong member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 30 years and was a former Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a 40-year member of the Roxboro Kiwanis Club serving as President and as a Lt. Governor in Kiwanis International. Mr. Carver was a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Person Memorial Hospital and served as Trustee for 20 years. He was a past Chairman of the Person County Library Board and a past Chairman of the Hycotee Regional Library Board. He was a director of the local First Union National Bank; he served as a director for the Piedmont Community College Foundation Board, Past President of the Roxboro Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Matthews Carver of the home; one son, W. Gordon Carver, Jr., of Roxboro; his daughter-in-law, Kay Perry Carver and three grandchildren, Will, Nannette and Elizabeth (Sissy).
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Long Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. William D. Sabiston, III officiating. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 1999, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Brooks & White Funeral Home. Pall Bearers: Tom Gilliam, Edison Aiken, Don Peterson, James Carver, Dr. Ed Cox, Vernon Blalock. Honorary Pall Bearers: Roxboro Kiwanis Club, Person Memorial Hospital, Board of Trustee and The Wesley Hambrick Sunday School Class of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.

LUNA W. ELLIOTT
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Luna Warren Elliott, 94, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 on her 94th birthday. Funeral service 4 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Wake Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Elliott was a native of Alexander County, NC where she was born May 18, 1905 to the late Lafayette and Otilla Teague Warren. She and her husband moved to Thomasville, NC in 1937 and resided there until moving to Fuquay-Varina in 1991 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Boyd Warren Elliott and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ballentine Elliott.
Surviving, husband, Jay Hoyle Elliott; granddaughter, Nancy Elliott and husband, Ross Stocks of Fuquay-Varina; granddaughters, Jacquelyn Elliott and Caroline Elliott of Fuquay-Varina.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home.

DALTON B. FELTON
EURE -- Dalton Beech Felton, 77, of the 130 block of White Oak Road, died Monday night, May 17, 1999 in his home.
Mr. Felton was born in Gates County. The son of the late Edward Nathan and Mrs. Eutha Lilley Felton, he was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retired as bookkeeper from CF Industries, and had served as a Gates County Magistrate for 24 years. He was a member of Eure Christian Church where he was an honorary deacon, and had formerly served as Sunday School superintendent and church treasurer. He had been a member of Woodmen of the World for over 50 years and had served as the president and treasurer of the local chapter, Lodge #965.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia Howell Felton; one daughter, Paulette Felton Wester and her husband, John G. Wester, Sr.; one son, Michael Cullins Felton and his wife, Patricia Bazemore Felton; a grandson, John G. Wester, Jr. and his wife, Pam Ambrose Wester; and a great-grandson, Jonathan Ambrose Wester, all of Eure; one sister, Dorothy Felton Eure of Choanoke Shores in Hertford County.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville in charge. Friends may join the family at the residence.
Floral arrangements will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Eure Christian Church, Eure, NC 27935 or to Roanoke-Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

JANE ELLEN G. JANOSKO
RALEIGH -- Jane Ellen Gregory Janosko, 40, of 7747 Kelley Court, died Saturday, May 15, 1999 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Jane was a computer consultant with Computer Service Partners.
Memorial service 3 p.m. Friday, May 21, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545.
Surviving: husband, John Michael Janosko; daughters, Rebecca H. Windham of Raleigh, Krystal "Kristi" Shanta Nichols of Columbia, S.C.; granddaughter, Brianna Elizabeth Windham; parents, Warren Allen Gregory and Ruby Jewel Bumbalowe Gregory of Hanahan, S.C.; sister, Joyce G. Parker of Hollywood, Fla.
