OMAHA, NE -- Midori S. Miya, age 76 of Omaha, NE died May 13, 1999 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born December 15, 1922 in Seattle, WA.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Tom Miya of Omaha, (former Dean of the UNC School of Pharmacy); daughter, Dr. Pamela Miya of Omaha; brothers, Dr. Peter Sakamoto of Minnesota, Moss Sakamoto of Minnesota; sister, Nobuko Geertsma of Rescue, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services Saturday, May 22, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Crosby Burket Swanson Golden Colonial Chapel, 11902 West Center Road, Omaha, NE. Interment in California.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina, c/o UNC School of Pharmacy, CB# 7360, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7360.

MARY ELLEN SPENCER PROPST
FOSCOE -- Mrs. Mary Ellen Spencer Propst, age 77, of the Grandfather community in Foscoe, died Sunday afternoon, May 16, 1999 at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields in Mebane. Born October 29, 1921 in Morganton, she was a daughter of William Avery and Motie Florence Beach Spencer. Mrs. Propst was a member of the Foscoe Christian Church. She was a homemaker and retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1970 as an operator with 25 years service. Mrs. Propst was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Propst and one grandchild, Tracey Leigh Elliott.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Elliott and her husband Jack of Roxboro and Nancy Hampton and her husband Kermit Keith of Trade, Tennessee; four step-daughters, Audrey Lee Jenkins, Evelyn Hurley and husband Vann, and Joan Parker, all of Hickory, and Joyce Eason of Clayton; one sister, Mrs. Iris Gaddy of Shubuta, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Amber Correll, Sarah Elliott and Samantha Shaver; 15 step-grandchildren, Tim Ballas, Kelly Marshall, Beth Marshall, Rodney Eason, Tae Eason, Donald R. Hilton, Jr., Stephanie Reinhardt, Melanie Berry, Michelle Church, Mark Hefner, Rick Hefner, Suzanne Bauknight, Jay Carpenter, Joy Martin, and Keith D. Hampton; and several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Ellen Spencer Propst will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Foscoe Christian Church, officiated by Mr. Kenneth Caswell. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Foscoe Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Foscoe Christian Church, 8834 N.C. Highway 105 South, Boone, NC 28607 or to the Salem United Methodist Church, Salem Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Austin & Barnes.
Austin & Barnes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

ERNEST MARTIN RIDDLE
RALEIGH -- Ernest Martin Riddle, 82, of Raleigh died Saturday, May 15, 1999. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was born August 8, 1916 in Wake County to the late William A. and Frances Brown Riddle.
He is survived by his wife, Lois M. Riddle; sons, Steve Riddle and Roy Mangum; sisters, Kathrine Poole and Frances Loveless; brothers, John, James, Thomas, Julian, and Joseph Riddle; grandchildren, Karen Conkling, Leah Mangum, Matthew, Elizabeth and Joseph Riddle.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, 600 St. Mary's Street. The Rev. Ed Marshall will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

MARVIN R. SATTERWHITE
RALEIGH -- Marvin Ray Satterwhite, 47 of 2604 Stewart Dr. in Raleigh, died Saturday, May 15, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church, Apex, NC. Burial in church cemetery.
Survivors: wife Constance Satterwhite; daughters Twala Blake of Holly Springs, NC and Bridgette Turner of Raleigh, NC; mother, Lillian Cates of Apex, NC; brothers, James Satterwhite of Raleigh, NC and Miles Satterwhite of Rocky Mount, NC; sister, Gwendolyn Byrd of Durham, NC.
Visitation 30 minutes prior to service at the church.

ROBERT HOLLISTER SCRIBNER
SALISBURY, CT -- Robert Hollister Scribner, 88, of Salisbury, CT, died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Sharon Hospital, Sharon, CT. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Scribner retired after 40 years with Northeast Utilities. He was an active leader in many civic, church, and genealogical organizations. He was also a member of a dance band for 11 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertha (Betty) R. Scribner of Salisbury; daughters, Joan S. Bettman and her husband, James of Chapel Hill, NC, Cheryl A. Schultz and her husband, Robert of Madison, CT; grandson, David J. Bettman of Boulder, CO.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, may 22, 1999 at the Salisbury Congregational Church, Salisbury, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

ANNIE C. TURNER
DURHAM -- Mrs. Annie Caviness Turner, of 2833 Stuart Drive, died Sunday afternoon in Duke University Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Annie Harrington Caviness and widow of Carl Alexander Turner.
A native of Harnett County she attended school there and Hardbarger Business School. She was employed with R.E. Quinn Furniture Co. and with Style Craft Interiors for many years.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Bible Study Group. She was a volunteer with the Duke Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, recipient of the Senior Volunteer of the Year 1998, Governors Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service 1998 and the Jefferson Award 1999.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carlan Turner Graves and William W. Graves III of Chapel Hill and a grandson, William W. Graves IV of Athens, GA.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in the Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lillington. Officiating will be the Rev. Bess Hunnings.
Instead of flowers memorials may be made to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, DUMC, Box 3677, Durham, NC 27710.

EFFIE B. VAUGHAN
TARBORO -- Mrs. Effie Beaman Corbett Vaughan, 94, formerly of Snow Hill died Sunday evening at IHS Nursing Center in Tarboro. Mrs. Vaughan lived in Greene County and was an active member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church prior to moving to Tarboro due to declining health.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home in Snow Hill. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughan was preceded in death by a son, John Hector Corbett.
Survivors include: daughters, Evelyn C. Hubbard of Raleigh, JoCecil C. Radford of Tarboro, Molly C. Jones of Winston-Salem and Vera Jean C. Lambert of Fuquay-Varina; a step-daughter, Ruth Ginn of Snow Hill; a daughter-in-law, Frances Corbett of Snow Hill; a sister-in-law, Annie Beaman of Snow Hill; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the chapel of Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Linda Brann, Hwy. 13 South, Snow Hill, NC.

GILMER W. WILLIAMS
JULY 12, 1928-May 17, 1999
RALEIGH -- Gilmer Walker Williams, 70, of 121 Colleton Road, a retired employee of Raleigh Community Hospital, having previously worked with it's predecessor, Mary Elizabeth Hospital, died Monday at his home.
Funeral service, 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Burial, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Garner.
Surviving: wife, Lois Jones Williams; son, Rex W. Williams and his wife, Kathy of Raleigh; a grandson, Adam Williams of Raleigh; a sister, Ruth W. Collier of Four Oaks; a brother, Clyde Williams of Morrisville.
The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, 7-9 p.m. today.
Contributions may be made to the American Lung Assn of NC, 800 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.

ANN C. WOLFE
APEX -- Ann Cotten Wolfe, 60, of 8108 Jenks Rd., Apex, NC, died early Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Western Wake Hospital. She was a retired nurses aide, loving wife and mother.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy. 55), Apex, NC. Burial will follow in the Apex Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Gene Wood.
Survivors are: husband, W. Thelbert Wolfe of the home; daughters, Sarah Louise Ronk and husband, Tom of Apex, NC, Patsy Ann Ward of Clayton, NC, and Patricia Anna Christian of Holly Springs, NC; sons, Billy Ray Wolfe of Apex, NC and Willie T. Wolfe, Jr. and wife, Donna of Apex; nine grandchildren; a brother, Charles Cotten and wife, Chris of Apex, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, May 18, at Apex Funeral Home and other times at the home.

CONLEY COOK
DURHAM -- Conley Cook, 99, of 3405 Olney Drive, died Tuesday morning at Durham Regional Hospital. He will be dearlymissed by his loving and caring family and by all those who were touched by his life. His sweet smile was a shining Christian witness to all who came in contact with him.
Mr. Cook was born in Concord, son of the late Mary Etta Fink Cook and George Washington Cook. He grew up at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford following the deaths of both parents in 1908. He served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps in World War I and subsequently in the United States Army. He was scheduled in the near future to receive France's highest honor, the National Order of the Legion of Honor, awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who fought on French soil during World War I. He played professional baseball in Hawaii in the 1920s and continued to play in amateur leagues in Charlotte in the 1930s. He was employed by the Observer Printing House as a lineotype operator, working for both the Charlotte News and the Charlotte Observer for 35 years before retiring in 1964. Mr. Cook expressed his love for others in many ways, from taking care of children in his immediate and extended family to making furniture and decorative wood products, to loving and caring for small animals and birds. His love of adventure led him back to Hawaii with his two grandsons in the fall of 1997.
Surviving are his daughter, Marsha C. Vick and her husband Paul of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Blanch Davis of Kannapolis; two grandsons, Paul Allen Vicki, Jr. and his fiance Andrea Kathleen Sigler of Seattle, and Brian Conley Vick of New York City; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. His beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth V. Cook, proceeded him in death in 1998.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at Leesville Road Baptist Church at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. The Reverend Robert D. Weatherly will officiate at both services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, North Carolina 27565.
Hall-Wynne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES MILLER ADAMS
RALEIGH -- James Miller Adams, 92, of Raleigh, NC, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in Rex Hospital.
Mr. Adams was born in Wake Co., NC on April 30, 1907, the son of the late James Miller Adams, Sr., and Annie Belle Kirkpatrick Adams.
Mr. Adams was a member and Past Master of the Cary Masonic Lodge #198 and also a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church. He had been a member of the Vanguard Sunday School Class of First Presbyterian Church since 1923 until the present.
Surviving are his wife, Inez T. Adams of the home; two daughters, Ann Adams Allred and husband, Jesse F. Allred and Jean Adams Nichols and husband, Everette Nichols both of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren, James Nichols, Cynthia Elderkin, Melinda Medina, Greg Nichols, Joverne Trotter, and David Allred; also six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 1999, in the Mitchell Funeral Home Glenwood Ave. Chapel by Dr. Edwin Stock, Jr. Interment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park with full masonic rites.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC.

MOLLY C. BAITINGER
GREENFIELD, NY -- Molly Christina Baitinger of White Oak Court, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at Saratoga Hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. She was 17. Born on Sept. 4, 1981 in Bethesda, MD, she was the daughter of Andrew S. and Susan E. (Hardesty) Baitinger. Molly graduated from Saratoga Springs High School last Thursday, (June 24, 1999). She was looking forward to moving to Florida to establish a career. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saratoga Springs.
Besides her parents; survivors include: sister, Olivia Baitinger; brothers, Stephen Baitinger and Matthew Baitinger, all of Greenfield; maternal grandmother, Lorraine Hardesty of Palm Bay, FL; paternal grandmother, Joanne Baitinger of Raleigh, NC; paternal grandfather, William Baitinger of Palos Heights, IL; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 1999 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY.
Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Church prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund c/o St. Paul's Evanglical Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
