ELIZABETH ANN CLIFTON HECKER
WAKE FOREST -- Elizabeth Ann Clifton Hecker, 62, of 2616 Doris Lane, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Wake Medical Center.
She was born in Wake County, and was the daughter of the late George and Nellie Smith Clifton.
Funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 6, 1999 at Wake Forest Church of God with the Rev. Aaron Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Clifton Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Hecker is survived by her husband, James "Jimmy" Hecker; daughter, Barbara A. Goad of Raleigh; sons, James Norris Hecker of Raleigh, Ricky Lane Hecker of Wake Forest and David Wayne Hecker of Rolesville; sister, Pearl Barefoot of Knightdale; brothers, William H. Clifton of Wake Forest and Robert W. Clifton of Pine Level; two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 Friday evening.

WILLIE L. HUNTER
JULY 4, 1940-MARCH 1, 1999
HOLLY SPRINGS -- Willie Lee Hunter, 58, of 5512 Spence Farm Road, Holly Springs, died Monday at Western Wake Hospital in Cary.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina. Burial follows at Starlight Memorial Gardens.
Viewing today, Trice Funeral Home at 12 noon.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Ruth Adams Hunter; son, Chris Adams of the home; daughters, Sharon Renee Flippin of Fuquay-Varina and Glenda Michelle Matthews of Apex; stepson, Donald Adams, Jr. of Fuquay-Varina; five grandsons and four granddaughters; brother, Alonzo Hunter of Angier; sisters, Thera Jackson of Angier, Gladys McLean, Amie Malloy, Linda K. Scott all of Fayetteville, Adarine Hunter of Raleigh, Rebecca Perry of Moncure, and Joyce L. Hunter of Delaware.

MARY P. KISTLER
GREENVILLE, SC -- Mary P. Kistler, 81, of 129 Fairoaks Drive, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Born in Parker, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Teeguarden Pittinger. She received her nursing degree from Ball State in Muncie, Ind. and was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving: sons, Dr. George L. Kistler of Jefferson City, MO and Dr. Kent Kistler of Greenville, SC; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons Michael C. Kistler and Thomas K. Kistler.
Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 10 N. Church St., Greenville, SC 29601.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Markley Chapel at Christ Episcopal Church. Inurnment will be at Pine Forest Cemetery, Wake Forest, NC at a late date.
The family is at the home of Dr. Kent Kistler, 16 Rock Creek Drive.

DONALD L. KLAS
VASS -- Donald L. Klas, 68, of Woodlake C.C. Vass, died suddenly Tuesday, March 2, 1999 in Highlands General Hospital in Sebring, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with Father James Butler officiating.
Don was a loving and much loved husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his family above all else and they cherished him. He was born in Buffalo, NY, on May 1, 1930 and moved to Raleigh, in 1970, with the IBM Corp., and retired in 1990 when he moved to Vass.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Lord's Catholic Church in Raleigh, and the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic in Southern Pines. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Woodlake C.C.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth H. Klas; five sons, Donald Klas of Greenville, SC, David Klas of Grayslake, Ill, Peter Klas and Kevin Klas, both of Raleigh and Michael Klas of Trumbull Conn; one daughter, Ann K. Anderson of Pinehurst; a sister, Florine Whalen of Buffalo, NY, and 11 grandchildren.
The family will be at the Boles Funeral Home and Crematory in Pinehurst on Friday from 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VASS Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 242 Vass, N.C. 28394.

GUYON LEWIS
HARKERS ISLAND -- Guyon Lewis, 82, of Harkers Island died Thursday at Taylor Hospital and Extended Care Facility, Sea Level.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Michael Walker and Rev. Clayton Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow in Armecia Lewis Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertie Gaskill and a brother, Clifton Lewis.
Survivors: wife, Nellie L. Lewis; sons, Danny Lewis, Buddy Lewis, and Ronnie Paul Lewis of Harkers Island and Richard A. "Dick" Lewis of Morehead City; sisters, Belva Hunnings and Fannie Gillikin, both of Harkers Island; brothers, Harry Lewis and Garrison Lewis of Harkers Island and Thomas C. Lewis of Beaufort; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday night at the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC 27705.

MABLE JONES MOORE
AULANDER -- Mable Jones Moore, 87, of Route 1, died March 4, 1999, in Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie. Mrs. Moore was born in Bertie County and was a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and the widow of Oscar Clifton Moore.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen M. Burden of Ahoskie; a son, Richard M. Moore of Fenton, MO; three grandchildren, William D. Burden III of Ahoskie, Kim Levenhaege of St. Louis, MO, Susie Powers of Baltimore, MD; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Jerry Cribb. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of William D. Burden III.

JOSEPH G. POLLOCK JR
GATESVILLE -- Joseph Graham Pollock, Jr., 56, of New York, NY and Gatesville, NC, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC.
The son of the late Joseph Graham, Sr. and Mrs. Lucy Gatling Pollock, he was a graduate of St. Christopher's School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama. An actor who entertained and delighted audiences at the Lost Colony, the Playmakers Theatre, and the East Carolina Summer Theatre, his successful career included numerous commercials as well as leading roles at The Allenberry Playhouse in Pennsylvania and the national touring companies of "1776" and "Big River". In the Broadway production of "Big River" he played the role of "Pap Finn". He was a member of Actors Equity and the Screen Actors Guild.
Surviving are his sister, Clarine Gatling Pollock Powell, and her husband, Robert J. Powell, III, of Greenville, NC; nephews, Robert Jackson Powell, IV, Graham Pollock Powell, and John Gatlilng Powell; and a niece, Catherine Gant Powell.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Gatesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 3-4:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and on Sunday at the residence until time for services.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Gatesville, NC 27938 or to The Actors Fund of America, 729 7th Ave., 10th Floor, New York, NY 10019.

BETTY J. PEGG SHANLEY
RALEIGH -- Betty June Pegg Shanley, 75, of 11209 Trescott Court, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 in Rex Hospital. She attended White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey Addison Pegg and Beatrice Palmer Pegg Garner and husband, Milton Maxwell Shanley Sr.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. Maxwell Shanley, Jr. of Wheeling, WV; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. William (Stephanie) Lestini of Raleigh; brothers, Larry Garner of Zanesville, OH, Thomas Garner of Glen Dale, WV; grandchildren, Bronson Maxwell Shanley Lestini and Lysandra Palmer Lestini, both of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.
Christian service and burial was held in Wheeling, West Virginia.
A memorial service will be held 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 1999 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church by Dr. Arthur Ross, III.

BOBBY E. SMITH DEC. 15, 1948 - MAR. 4, 1999
CLAYTON -- Bobby Edward Smith, 50, of 1075 Ridge Dr., a Field Engineer with CP&L, died Thursday morning.
Funeral 3 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Graveside service, 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion, SC.
Surviving his wife, Bette Davis Smith; sister, Rebecca Ann Smith of Spartanburg, SC; andbrother, Marty Lawrence Smith of Hartsville, SC.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service, today.

JOHN R. VERNON
REIDSVILLE -- John Robert Vernon, Sr., 84, of 1022 Cypress Dr., died Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. David Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the United Methodist Church Cemetery in Goldston at 1:30 p.m.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the son of the late Martin and Eugenia Vernon and had lived in Detroit, Michigan most of his life. He was a retired employee with American Motors Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ellis Vernon; three sisters, Ruth McCollum, Gray Knight and Mary Tillman; two brothers, Thomas Vernon and Samuel Vernon.
Surviving is his son, John Robert Vernon, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Judith Michaels of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren, Stuart Mullins, Christian Vernon, Justin Vernon, Anne Michaels, John Michaels and David Michaels; one great-grandchild, Margaret Frances Michaels; three sisters, Evelyn Smith of Reidsville, NC, Eugenia Blair of Burlington, NC and Rachel Bame of Kure Beach, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society at 5624 Executive Center Office, Suite 100, Charlott e, NC 28212. The family will see friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Citty Funeral Home and at other times they will be at 636 Parkway Blvd.

MABEL H. WHITLEY
RALEIGH -- Mabel H. Whitley, 88, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thurman Whitley in 1988. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Whitley is survived by her daughter, Bobbie and husband, Robert McWithey of Newport News, Va.; a brother, David William Theodore Honbarger and a sister, Leona Goodman, both of Salisbury; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 11:30-12:30 with a memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and will be officiated by Rev. Royall Yount and Rev. Larry Holmes.
in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church at 2723 Clark Ave., Raleigh, NC 27607.
