EDNA DEITZ BUSBY NN
RALEIGH -- Edna Deitz Busby, 87, who was a professional musician for 72 years, died of cancer Friday at her home in Raleigh.
Mrs. Busby was born in York, Pennsylvania and came at seventeen years of age to Salisbury to attend Catawba College. She has lived and worked in North Carolina since that time. Mrs. Busby has taught piano lessons in Raleigh since 1953. She was a founding member and Board member of the Raleigh Piano Teachers' Association. Under her leadership, the Association created an annual piano program. Mrs. Busby taught people of all ages to love, enjoy and perform music. Many of her students have become professional musicians both in North Carolina and around the United States.
Mrs. Busby served as organist and director of music for the Trinity Methodist Church and has remained active in that congregation since her retirement.
Mrs. Busby is survived by two daughters, Beverly Busby Tant of Raleigh and Billie Busby of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, George S. Deitz of York, Pennsylvania and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Raleigh Piano Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Ms. Marie Willett, Secretary, 1600 Beacon Valley Drive, Raleigh, NC 27604 or the Music Program of the Trinity Methodist Church, 824 N. Bloodworth St., Raleigh, NC 27604.
There will be a cremation followed by a memorial/celebration service at the Trinity Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 28th. Services will continue at Montlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will also receive friends and family immediately following the celebration at her home, 4208 Windsor Place, Raleigh.

THOMAS BURRELL REYNOLDS JR.
RALEIGH -- Thomas Burrell Reynolds, Jr., 78, of Raleigh, died Thursday at Mayview Convalescent Center. He had been in declining health for several years and had been a resident of Mayview since February. He was born on February 21, 1921 in Raleigh and was the son of the late Bertha Briggs Reynolds and Thomas Burrell Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was the husband of the late Clyde Mann Wade Reynolds.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 29th at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by two sons, Thomas B. Reynolds, III of Waynesville, NC and S. Wade Reynolds of Raleigh; a daughter, Judith Reynolds Cook of East Lyme, Connecticut; three sisters, Virginia Reynolds Rapport of Washington, D.C., Helen Reynolds Reid of Winston-Salem, NC and Mary Beryl Reynolds Johnson of Canastota, NY; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, Raleigh.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 or Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.

GEORGE NORMAN ACKER JR.
RALEIGH -- Funeral services for George NormanAcker Jr., of Raleigh, who died Friday, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, 828-4311.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, designated for the Norman Acker Memorial Organ Concert Fund and mailed to First Presbyterian Church, 111 W. Morgan St., Raleigh, N.C. 27601.

GARLAND C. ALFORD JR.
ROCKY MOUNT -- Garland Cleophus Alford Jr., 73, died Saturday, March 27, 1999.
He was born October 5, 1925 in Edgecombe County, the son of the late Garland C. Sr. and Margaret Williams Alford. He was a retired service manager with John Vann Motors Auto Dealership and a World War II Army Veteran.
Surviving: wife, Rachel Deaton Alford of the home; sisters and brother-in-law, Jean Alford of Rocky Mount and Yvonne and Donnie Arrington of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Deaton of Candor; brother-in-law, Jesse W. Deaton of Tempe, Ariz.; two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pineview Cemetery, Section 53, with the Rev. Paul Snell officiating. The family will receive friends, 7-8:30 tonight at Johnson Funeral Home, Fairview Road, and other times at 8336 Town Creek Road, Rocky Mount.

NOLA T. BECK
RALEIGH -- Nola Lillian Thomas Beck, 94, died Saturday, March 27, 1999.
Mrs. Beck was born June 6, 1904 in Edenton, the daughter of Emmett and Lucy Thomas. She came to Raleigh in 1922, where she lived the rest of her life. Mrs. Beck was an active member of First Vanguard Presbyterian Church and later of the Salvation Army Corps of Raleigh, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Even as a shut-in, she continued her faithful ministry to members of her church via cards and the telephone.
Mrs. Beck was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Carroll Beck in 1962.
Surviving are her son, Emmett (Tom) Beck of Garner and her daughter, Dorothy Mae Beck Smith of Raleigh; grandchildren, Nola Smith Penny, Lucy Smith Latta, Sue Smith Greene, Robert A. Smith, Linda Beck Bradley, Kathleen Beck Grimes, Richard Emmett Beck and Steven Alan Beck; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday, 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army with interment following in Montlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday, 3-5 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St. or other times at 1208 Indian Creek Trail, Garner or 1020 W. Peace St., Apt. T1, Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 902 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27604.

BRYAN H. BOWLES
SOUTHERN PINES -- Bryan Harrington Bowles, 18, a resident of 9 C. North Bennett Street, died Friday, March 26, 1999. He was a student at Sandhills Community College. He was employed at Whispering Pimes County Club. He attended Snyder Baptist Church. He was a free lance Poet.
Funeral service for Bryan Harrington Bowles will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Sandy Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include parents, John and Vickie Bowles of Fayetteville; one brother, Royce Bowles of Fayetteville; paternal grandmother, Aslee W. Odum of Fayetteville.
The family requests that you hug and love your children each day.
Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville is serving the family.

HENRY T. BROWN, JR.
GREENVILLE -- Henry Thomas "Tom" Brown, Jr., 68, went home to be with his Lord Friday, March 26, 1999.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Brown, son of the late Henry Thomas and Mary Fleming Brown, was a native of Greenville and a graduate of Greenville High School. He attended East Carolina College and served in the Army Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Brown's career as a tobacconist spanned nearly forty years. He worked for Export Leaf Tobacco Company for thirty-two years and continued with A.C. Monk Tobacco Company for five additional years of service. Until recently, he operated Brown's Insurance Agency.
Mr. Brown was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he served as usher for fifteen years. He had served as president of Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Methodist Men, and as a member of the Official Board and Evangelistic Committee. He was Captain of the Prayer Chain.
Surviving: wife, Sondra Sheppard Brown; sons, Henry Thomas Brown, III of Raleigh, Mark Sheppard Brown of Charlotte; daughter, Sondra Brown Meyer of Greenville; sisters, Rugh Braddy of Greenville, Eleanor Cherry of Raleigh; seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 3002 Pinecrest Drive.
Memorials may be made to St. James Untied Methodist Church, 2000 E. 6th St., Greenville, N.C. 27858 or Home Health & Hospice, 2303-D Executive Park Circle.

ELDER WILLIAM BRYANT
RALEIGH -- Elder William Bryant, of 4907-307 Hollenden Drive, died Thursday. Burial, Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
Surviving: spouse, Vernita J. Bryant of the home; daughters, Gloria Hood, Deborah Boyles, Colleen Postell and Joan Bryant all of Washington, DC; sons, James A. Bryant, Jr., and Tyrone Bryant of Washington, DC; sisters, Teresa Austin of Philadelphia, PA and Doris Hardy of Hampton, VA; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Lea Funeral Home 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

JOHN DANIEL "J.D." DOVE SR.
HOPE MILLS -- John Daniel (J.D.) Dove, Sr., 72, 4215 Legion Road, Hope Mills, NC died Friday, March 26, 1999 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Dove was an Elder at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the US Navy in WW II, past commander Hair-Matthews Post 32 American Legion, Mason and Shriner, past member Board of Directors Pearces Mill Fire Department.
Funeral, Monday, 1 p.m. at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ronald Lofts officiating. Burial, LaFayette Memorial Park.
Visitation at Reeves Funeral Home on Sunday from 7-9 p.m.
Surviving: wife, Sue Dove; three sons, John D. Dove, Jr., Roanoke, VA, Kent Dove, Raleigh, NC, Craig Dove, Cary, NC; one brother, Melvin Dove, Hope Mills, NC; two sisters, Mary Schutz, Cocoa, Florida, Louise McMillan, St. Pauls, NC; six grandchildren.

SAM LeROY ELLIS
CARY -- Sam LeRoy, 74, died March 26, 1999.
Visitation will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, North Carolina from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 1999.

MATTIE B. EURE
EURE -- Mattie Bridgers Barnes Eure lovingly known by her family and loved ones as "Ginger," passed over the threshold into eternal life on Saturday, March 27, 1999. She was 86 years old.
A native of Northampton County, she was a homemaker and had retired as a Nurse's Assistant from Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. She was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her first husband, Gilbert Lee Barnes, formerly of Lasker, she was the loving mother of Leo Wingate Barnes of Colerain and Richard William Barnes of Rocky Mount. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mike Barnes and Miki Barnes Mayo of Greenville, Marc Barnes of Williamston, Marty Barnes of Colerain; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Peele of Tarboro.
She is also survived by her second husband, Manley F. Eure of the home; his daughter, Elsie Belch of Murfreesboro; his sons, Lloyd Eure of Elizabeth City, Charles Eure of Eure, Robert Eure of Colerain; step-grandchildren, Judy Harris of Lasker, Donald Belch and John Eure, both of Murfreesboro, Glenn Eure of Elizabeth City, L.T. Eure of Kitty Hawk, Emily Ward, Debi Eure and Colby Eure, all of Eure; eight step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville by the Rev. Jack Edge and the Rev. Arthur Kirk. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. in preparation of services. Friends may join the family at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cool Spring Baptist Church, Eure, N.C. 27935.

LACY W. HARRIS SR.
RALEIGH -- Lacy William Harris, Sr., 81 of 910 Newcombe Rd. died March 25, 1999.
Funeral, 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1999 at Christian Chapel UCC. Burial in church cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Josephine Harris; sons, Lather Powell (Gladys) of Atco, NJ, Michael Harris (Jean) of Raleigh, NC and Lacy Jr. of Knightdale; three stepchildren, Alfred Hunter, Alfredia H. Collins and Chrystal Hunter; one sister, Mildred E. Harris of Apex, NC; and one brother, Dr. Oliver Harris (Dorothy) of Columbia, MD; two aunts, Maude Stewart of Apex, NC and Bertha Harris of Philadelphia, PA.
Visitation thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
