JEANNETTE RITA HENNESSY
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Jeannette Rita Hennessy, 74, of Raleigh, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 in Rex Hospital. Mrs. Hennessy was born in Clinton Co., N.Y. on April 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Edward and Loretta Jennette Abood.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home Glenwood Ave. Chapel by Rev. J.P. Johnston.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1 p.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, N.C.

SAMMIE K. HUDSON
FEB. 14, 1918-MAR. 24, 1999
RALEIGH -- Sammie K. Hudson, 81, of 1501 Chester Road, died on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 after a long illness with Emphysema and Osteoporosis. Mrs. Hudson was a long time resident of Downey, CA where she worked and retired as a Psychologist. Her entire life was one of loving wife, mother, aunt, friend and cat lover.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald Billy Hudson of Reno, NV and his wife Beverly, their children Rhonda Hudson of Los Angeles, CA and Heidi Hudson of San Francisco, CA, and Jack Brian Hudson and his wife Brenda Goodson, their children Rachel and Ryan all of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 on Sunday, March 28, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Reverends James H. Bailey and Jonathan Jeffries officiating. The family will receive friends on that day 12:30-6 p.m. at the family home at 1501 Chester Road, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, commemorations may be made to the Ministers' Discretionary Fund (for families/individuals in need), Highland Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.

NATHANIEL HUTCHINSON
GARNER -- Nathaniel Hutchinson, of 2413 Foxtrot Road, died Thursday. Funeral services 1 p.m. Monday at Lea Funeral Home. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: wife, Evelyn T. Hutchinson of Garner; daughters, Diane Ottley of Raleigh, Antoinette Howell of New York, LaDonna Rodgers of Florida; sons, Larry Hutchinson and Eric Hutchinson, both of New York; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Visitation at Lea Funeral Home from 12-1 p.m. Monday.
The family will receive friends at 2413 Foxtrot Road, Raleigh.

MARGARET KELLY
MAR. 2, 1931-MAR. 25, 1999
GARNER -- Margaret Adkins Kelly, 68, of 1403 Norene Circle died Thursday.
Graveside service, 11 a.m. Monday at Raleigh Memorial Park. Following this service the family will be at the home of Peggy Eaton, 1803 Lodestar Drive, Raleigh.
Surviving: daughters, Becky Kelly of Garner, Sandra Yeager of Wendell and Brenda Hawks of Knoxville, TN; son, John Kelly of Garner; sister, Peggy Eaton of Raleigh; brothers, Wayne Adkins of Garner and Bill Adkins of Sarosato, FL; grandchildren, Nichole Yeager, Samantha Hawks and William Hawks.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

DAVID OETTINGER
WILSON -- David Oettinger, 80, died Friday at Wake Medical Center, four weeks after relatives from across the United States gathered in Wilson to celebrate his 80 birthday. Oettinger lived a distinguished life. He owned and Managed Oettinger's, The Dependable Store, an eastern North Carolina landmark for 42 of its 112 years of service to the region. He was active in community and charitable affairs. He attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a charter member of the UNC Educational Foundation. Oettinger was past president of the Wilson Rotory Club and was honored with the Paul Harris Fellow. He was a charter member of the Wilson Elks Lodge where he was an Past Exalted Ruler. Served as president of the Wilson Country Club. Chairman of the Wilson Parking Commission and Wilson Co ABC Board. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He loved athletics and was a fine high school and college athlete.
He was the son of the late Elmer R. and Pearl L. Oettinger. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Rose and Sister Josephine O. Tramer.
Graveside service Monday, 11:30 a.m. with Rabbi John Friedman officiating. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law David and Cathy Oettinger Jr. of Rocky Mount; brother, Dr. Elmer R. Oettinger Jr. of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Oettinger of Rocky Mount; nephews, Elmer R. "Brick" Oettinger III of Durham, Kenneth B. Oettinger of Chapel Hill, Dr. Elliot Tramer of Toledo, OH, Dr. Jonathan Tramer of San Antonio, TX, Bennett Tramer of Santa Monica, CA; first cousins, Kala Herlands of Goldsboro, Ernestine O. Withers of Fort Pierce, FL, Albert Oettinger of Albemarle; great-niece, Virginia Rose Malcolm; great-nephew, Thomas D. Malcolm Jr.
Visitation, Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Hwy. 264 West, Wilson.

RICHARD HAROLD PERKINS
RALEIGH -- Richard Harold Perkins of 8512 Valley Brook Drive, died March 26.
Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday, Martin Street Baptist Church. Burial, April 5, 9 a.m., Arlington National Cemetery.
Visitation, Tuesday, 10-11 a.m.

LESLIE S. STOCKTON
ROCKY MOUNT -- Leslie Sherwood Stockton, 72, died on March 27, 1999, after a prolonged illness. He was born in Utica, New York, the son of the late William Stockton and Ellen Edwards. He graduated from New York Mills High School, New York in 1943, and received his degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from Clarkston University in 1958. He was a member of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Wisconsin and was honorably discharged in 1955.
He began his career in General Electric in Utica, New York. He was his family relocated to Rochester, New York when he accepted a position with the Xerox Corporation from which he took early retirement in January 1982. In February 1982, he and his family relocated to Rocky Mount NC when he accepted a position with Consolidated Diesel Company as a Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer, retiring in January 1996. He was a loyal member of Englewood Presbyterian Church, a member of the Choir and a former Elder of the Church. He was also a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club.
He was a kind and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce G. Endres Stockton, whom he married in April 1991 of Rome, New York; son, David A. Stockton of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Robin S. Williams and son-in-law, Bill Williams of Rocky Mount; daughter, Valerie J. Corbett and son-in-law, Tony Corbett of Louisburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Jean Barbara Schelble Stockton in 1985, and also his sister, Beverly Jean Stockton Weaver in 1989 of Livonia, Mi.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at Englewood Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Drew Clark officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Kenwood, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, charitable memorials may be made to the Englewood Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 100 S. Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804, or to a charity of choice.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the Doctors and Nurses of Nash General Hospital, and to the staff of the Carrolton Nursing Center for all of their care and compassion.

ETHEL LEE THAMES
GOLDSTON -- Ethel Lee Thames, 90, of Goldbar Ave., Goldston, NC died Friday, March 26, 1999 at Sunrise Care Facilities, Siler City, NC.
Funeral, Monday, March 29, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 503 Alton King Road, Gulf, conducted by Rev. Wayne Rigney. Burial, Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Gulf, NC.
Mrs. Thames was a native of Harnett County, was an agent-operator for the Durham & Southern Railroad and the Southern Railway System. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Gulf, NC where she served as a Sunday School teacher, G.A. leader, and officer of the Woman's Missionary Union. She had been the pianist for Bethany Baptist Church and Goldston Baptist Church. She was a member of Transportation Communications International Union.
Survivors: daughter, Ruth T. Andrew of Siler City, Judy T. Brant of Berlin, PA; sister, Jeanette L. Brake of Hampton, VA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999 at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

LEROY UPCHURCH
RALEIGH -- Leroy Upchurch of 1431 E. Lane Street died on Wednesday, March 24, 1999.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Monday, at Haywood Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing begins at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel and the service follows at 12 noon. Interment will be conducted at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Leroy Peterson; five sisters, Mamie, Roxie, Maude Esther, Helen and Lula Mae; one brother, Arthur and a sister-in-law, Ernestine, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other friends.

MARGARET B. WARRICK
JAN. 25, 1904 - MARCH 27, 1999
SMITHFIELD -- Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Barrett Warrick will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lee Colbert. Interment will follow in the Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in the Grantham Community of Wayne County. Margaret was the widow of Clarence Westbrook Warrick who died in 1982. She graduated from Oxford College in 1922 and taught in the public schools of Sampson and Johnston County. She was an active worker in the Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and choir membe r. She was past President of the Johnston County WMU of the Baptist Association.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, C.W. and Ramona Warrick of Pascagoula, Mississippi; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Vernon Harper of Laurinburg, Mary Jane and George Brannan of Smithfield and Barrett and Rick Tharrington of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a half-brother, Charles Barrett of Raleigh; a half sister, May Allen Barrett Form of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Beth Brannan Mayer, Wyatt Brannan Jr., Jane WarrickSmith, James Westbrook Warrick and Ruth Harper Waters; eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C. or the First Baptist Church, Smithfield, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 today at the Warrick residence at 513 South 5th Street, Smithfield.

EDWARD "TOM" J. WATKINS
WAKE FOREST -- Edward "Tom" J. Watkins, 71, of Mitchell Mill Road, died Saturday, March 27, 1999 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Watkins had retired from Westinghouse with 22 years of service. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, 1999 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, Old Sanctuary. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Wanda W. Oates and her husband, Steve of Knightdale; sons, Edward H. Watkins and his wife, Penny of Raleigh, Jimmy W. Watkins and his wife, Barbara of Knightdale, Gregory B. Watkins and his wife, Jennifer of Raleigh; grandsons, Adam Oates, Justin Oates and Gregory B. Watkins Jr.; granddaughters, Hayley Watkins and Amanda Watkins; brother, Leco W. Watkins of Wendell; sisters, Kathleen W. Underhill of Zebulon, Ann W. Correll of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

IRA OTIS "JIM" WILKERSON JR.
RALEIGH -- Funeral services for I.O. "Jim" Wilkerson Jr., of Raleigh, who died Thursday, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday from Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor.

JULIUS RUDOLPH MURRAY
COLUMBUS, GA -- Julius Rudolph Murray, 73, of Columbus, GA, formerly of Bailey, NC, passed away Sunday while attending a family reunion in Bailey in honor of his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J. G. Temple. An uncle, Mallie G. "Nick" Temple, U.S. Army (Ret.) of Copperas Cove, TX, passed away about four hours earlier at the same reunion.
Funeral services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA.
Mr. Murray entered the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific during World War II. After three years in the Navy he entered the Army where he served for 17 years, retiring as SFC. Mr. Murray was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Mr. Murray was preceded in death by a son, J. R. "Rudy" Murray, Jr. of Middlesex, NC in 1978.
He is survived by a son, Roby Julius Rudolph Murray of Calhoun, GA; three sisters, Vera M. Stokes of Wilson, NC, Doris M. Brannan of Zebulon, NC, Colleen M. Bunting of Scotland Neck, NC; brother, Stanley Murray of Garner, NC; granddaughter, Katherine Ann Murray of Calhoun, GA; several nieces and nephews.
