ROY EDWIN COOK
ANGIER -- Mr. Roy Edwin Cook, 72, of 1710 Chalybeate Springs Road, died Thursday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel. Revs. George Reed and Billy Cashwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Cook was born April 26, 1927, in Harnett County, to the late John F. and Lena Avery Cook. He retired from the physical plant at N.C. State University.
Survivors include: wife, Doris McGee Cook; daughters and sons-in-law, Abigail and Hoyt Kinsey of Linden, Bonita and Mike Price of Angier; sister, Alice Suggs of Buies Creek; brother, Wade Cook of Erwin; grandchildren and and spouse, Kim and Bob Murphy, Amy Price and Magen Price; great-granddaughter, Adi Pollard; foster granddaughter, German Exchange Student, Rifka Niewisch.
Family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson 7-9 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of Bonita and Mike Price, 1668 Chalybeate Spring Road, Angier.

JASON LaGRANDE HAWKS
SPRING HOPE -- Jason LaGrande Hawks, 83, of 309 North Walnut Street, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Nash General Hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999 from the First Baptist Church by Dr. Fred Grissom. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope.
Mr. Hawks was a World War II veteran, a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church in Spring Hope.
He is survived by one daughter, Jasa H. Allen of Greenville; sisters, Alta Snyder of Harrisville, MI, Barbara Jean Herman of Troy, MT; brothers, Lawrence Hawks of Casper, WY, Arnold Hawks of Wellsville, NY; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Spring Hope Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Friday evening and other times at the home.

UNA WILLIAMS JOHNSON
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Mrs. Una Williams Johnson, 95, widow of Tom W. Johnson, former editor of the "Oxford Public Ledger" in Oxford, NC and long time resident of West Front Street, died in her sleep at Brighton Gardens Retirement Center in Virginia Beach, VA, on Monday, May 17, 1999. Born in Easley, South Carolina, Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church and had a very active interest in history and genealogy. She continued this interest up to her death, and through this interest, met a number of people throughout the nation who came to the Richard Thornton Library to research Granville County ancestors. Her memory often allowed her to quote dates and names without the use of notes.
She is survived by her two sons, George Frederick Johnson of Baltimore, MD and Thomas Lane Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Jennifer J. Shipp of Portsmouth and Christopher T. P. Johnson of Columbia, SC; two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Johnson will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church just outside Grifton, NC on Saturday, September 4th at 11 a.m. Burial of her ashes will be in the Johnson family plot in St. John's churchyard.
Mrs. Johnson's death was the last in her generation of both the Johnson and Williams families.

LOUISE SPONGE LITTLE JOHNSTON
RALEIGH -- Louise Spong Little Johnston, 83, of 127 W. Park Dr., Raleigh, died Thursday, May 20, 1999.
She was born in Charlotte, the daughter of John Phillips Little and Louise Sponge Little.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte.
She is survived by her husband, William Rodgers Johnston of Raleigh; sons, John Phillips Little Johnston and wife, Dorothy J. Johnston of High Point and Christian Belser Johnston of Raleigh; daughters, Anne J. Henderson and husband, Perrin Q. Henderson of Charlotte, Dabney J. Mann and husband, Tift Mann of Raleigh, Mary Jen Caldwell Mason and husband, Richard Mason of Raleigh, Louise J. Coffey and husband, Thomas Coffey of Naples, FL, and Pamela J. Dameron and husband, T. Barker Dameron of Raleigh; brother, William Everett Little of Charlotte; sister, Jean Little Spratt of Charlotte; 17 grandchildren, Anne Everett Henderson Yonke, William Johnston Mann, Perrin Quarles Henderson Jr., Dabney Mann Hollis, William Rogers Henderson, Sally Scott Henderson, John Phillips Little Johnston Jr., Charles Edward Maupin, Dorothy James Johnston, Richard Caldwell Mason, Ann Devereux Mason, Thomas Barker Dameron IV, William Rodgers Johnston Dameron, Laura Shelby Dameron, David Belser Dameron, Suzanna Coffey Bolick and Carolina Coffey Rogers; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to "Strolling Professor" Fund at NCSU Friends of the Library, NCSU Libraries, Box 7111, Raleigh, NC 27695-7111.

CHARLES MILLER LANCASTER
PIKEVILLE -- Charles Miller Lancaster, 79, of 1366 Buck Swamp Road, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Charles Miller and Etta Evans Lancaster. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2615. Mr. Lancaster attended Nahunta Friends meeting.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Vail Lancaster; daughters, Phyllis Radford and husband, Edgar of Garner and Judy Kimley and husband, Bill of Pikeville; sons, Gary Lancaster and wife, Margaret of Goldsboro and Ben Lancaster and Charles A. Lancaster both of Pikeville; sisters, Ethel Keen of Henderson and Mary Edith Mitchell of Arapahoe; brother, Wayne Lanaster of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Kevin Radford, Andrew Radford, Dana Lancaster; Gary Lancaster Jr. and Judy Clark; and a great-grandchild, Brooke Radford.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Lancaster.
The family will receive friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the residence.

THERESA FLORENCE LEVTZOW
NEW BERN -- Theresa Florence Levtzow, 40, died Wednesday at Pitt Co. Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was a hairdresser and member of Fountain Life Fellowship. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday by Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance with Rev. Clarence Langford officiating. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Glen A. Levtzow of the home; brother, John Levtzow of Apex; special aunt and uncle, Gladys and Edwin Cahoon of Grantsboro.
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home 7-8 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of Edwin and Gladys Cahoon, in Grantsboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Theresa Levtzow Memorial Youth Fund, c/o Foundation Life Fellowship, 2827 Ashland Avenue, New Bern, NC 28560.

JOHN D. MARSIL
KINGSTON, NY -- John D. Marsil, 45, of Main St., Kingston, NY, died at his residence Thursday, May 20, 1999 following a long illness. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, February 8, 1954, he was the son of John Guy Marsil and the late Selma Marker Marsil and stepson of Nanette Marsil. He was a 1973 graduate of Kingston High School and was employed as a union iron worker for the local 417 of Newburgh, NY. Mr. Marsil was a member of the Upper Hudson Valley Labor Council. In addition to his father and stepmother of Raleigh, NC he is survived by his wife, Lisa Suppies whom he married May 11, 1985; son, Nicholas Marsil of the home; daughter, Emily Marsil of the home; brother, Keith Marsil of Kingston; one aunt; one uncle; several cousins.
A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, NY.
Arrangements by the Bernard L. Hamilton Funeral Service, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Ulster County Unit, 159 Green St., Kingston, NY or Hospice, 106 Prince St. Kingston, NY 12401.

FRANK J. POCHEK
APEX -- Frank J. Pochek, 66, of 501 Homestead Park Dr., Apex, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at Western Wake Hospital.
He was a native of Woodbridge, New Jersey, he is a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Willow Spring, and after retiring to NC in 1993, was employed with Winn Dixie Stores in Fuquay-Varina.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 22, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy. 55) Apex. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Kaines.
The family will receive friends at Apex Funeral Home, Saturday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. prior to service time.
Survivors are: his wife, Anne Pochek of the home; daughters, Fran Melodick and husband, Bill of Toms River, NJ, Donna Grodecki and husband, Gary of Tom River, NJ, Patti Bowden and husband, Douglas of Raleigh; brother, Albert Pochek and wife, Jane of Easton, PA; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Melodick, Elizabeth Nenortas, Gregory and Melissa Grodecki and Emily Overton.
Arrangements are entrusted with Apex Funeral Home, Apex, N.C.

IRMA PRICE
ROCKY MOUNT -- Irma Price, 63, died Thursday, May 20, 1999. She was born June 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Leonard W. and Lillie Williams.
She is survived by a son, Robert and Amber Starnes of W. Palmbeach, FL; two daughters, Pamela and Gary Barnes of Chesapeake, VA and Deedee and Chris Taylor of Springhope, NC; one brother, Aton Williams of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Mona Whitehurst of Panima City, FL; four grandchildren.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

CAROLINE BONNER PURDUM
CLAYTON -- Caroline Bonner Purdum, was born May 16, 1999 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, and went to be with the Lord on May 16, 1999. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, 1999 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with the Dr. Ronald Crawford officiating.

MERLE PARKER ROBINSON
CHAPEL HILL -- Mrs. Merle Parker Robinson of Wilmington, NC died Sunday, May 16, 1999 at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill.
She was born on November 12, 1923 in Greenville, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Marshall Robinson Sr. and her parents, C. Haynes and Edna P. Benton.
Mrs. Robinson was a very active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a devoted wife, mother, and an accomplished piano teacher. She was also an avid gardner, racing pigeon fancier, and was always interested in fine literature.
Surviving are her son, Thomas M. Robinson of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Jane Wallace Robinson of Durham, NC and Edith Kathleen Paul of Wilmington, NC; and a stepbrother, Richard Benton of Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert L. Salzgeber, Rev. Lynn M. Sanner, and Rev. Frank Perry. Interment following Greenlawn Memorial Park.

RUTH M. RUSSELL
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Ruth MacClaren Russell, 80, died May 14, 1999.
Memorial Service 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Windsor Point.
Surviving: husband of 56 years, Raymond Alvin Russell; sons, Ray Russell and wife Peggy of Fuquay-Varina, Daniel Russell and wife Elizabeth of East Hampton, MA; daughter, Edith Pallack of Pittsburg, PA.
Arrangements by Sugg Funeral Home.

KAY SCHRANK SAMPSON
HILLSBOROUGH -- Kay Schrank Sampson, 33, of 3219 Seven Springs Rd., Hillsborough, died unexpectedly Wednesday at Duke Medical Center.
Mrs. Sampson was a native of Dallas, TX and lived in the Durham area for the past six years. She graduated from Clemson University, cum laude, in 1987 with a degree in administrative management. Kay was a member and Sunday School teacher at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Durham Mother's Club, and was a Mary Kay sales representative. Kay will be most remembered as a really great Mom to Bradley and Emma.
Surviving are her husband Bill Sampson; her children, Bradley and Emma; her parents, Jack and Nelda Eisen Schrank of Plano, TX; and her brother Rodney T. Schrank of Plano.
The funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Prehn officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. (Across from NC Eye & Ear Hospital).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 1200 W. Cornwallis Rd., Durham, NC 27707.
Arrangements are with Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
