RALEIGH -- Ellis Hobbs, Sr. of Clayton, NC died Sunday, May 9, 1999 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.
He was born on March 31, 1924 in Onslow County, NC, the son of the late M.S. and Donnie Hobbs.
Surviving is his wife, Irene Hobbs of the home; one son, Ellis Hobbs, Jr. and wife of Burnsville, MS; two sisters, India Cooper of Wilmington, NC and Lillie Gray of Holly Ridge, NC; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999 in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

OTTIE LEE JERNIGAN
LAGRANGE -- Ottie Lee Fields Jernigan, 88, of 307 West Boundary Street, died Sunday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Richard Jernigan.
She was associated with Jernigan's Greenhouse & Nursery.
Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery with Rachel P. Edwards officiating.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Claude R. Jernigan Jr. and Meta Jernigan of La Grange; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Frances J. Paderick and Elwood Paderick of La Grange, Faydene J. Boyette and M. Ray Boyette of Newport News, Judy J. Fields of La Grange; five grandchildren, Walter Richard Barwick of Greenville, Elwood Lee Paderick of Greenville, Tracy B. Czaniecki and husband, Frank Czaniecki of Matthews, Walter R. Boyette of Newport News and Sharon Dene Boyette of Newport News; one great-grandchild, Laura Kay Boyette of Newport News.
Arrangements are by Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.

CHARLES E. (GENE) JONES
JAN. 17, 1918 - MAY 9, 1999
SMITHFIELD -- Charles Eugene (Gene) Jones, age 81, died at his home at 611 S. 3rd Street, Smithfield, Sunday. Gene was a retired automobile paint and body repair specialist who worked for 30 years at Pippin Motors and 5 years at Buie Motors. He was a native of Johnston County, a son of the late John Claude Jones and Annie Elizabeth Jones. He was the widower of Maude Overby Jones who died in 1996. Gene was a combat veteran of WW#2 and saw action in several battles in the Asia-Pacific theater. He is survived by a half sister, Annie Ellen Wellons of Summerville, South Carolina, a step sister, Magaleen Heath of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at Underwood Funeral Home.

CLYDE "C.T." MOORE SR.
MORRISVILLE -- Clyde Turner "C.T." Moore, Sr., 61, of 127 Clements Drive, Morrisville, died Sunday 5/9/99 at Western Wake Medical Center. Mr. Moore was a native of Guilford County. He was self employed. He was a Morrisville Town Commissioner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Moore and Lessie Pinkham Moore.
Survivors: wife, Almeria Parrish Moore; son, Clyde Turner Moore, Jr. of Morrisville; daughters, Phyllis Kent of St. John, IN, Teresa Thomas of Sanford, Pam Smith of New Hill, Tambra Moore of the home; nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be conducted at the Brides-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday, 5-12/99 by the Rev. Myron Yandle. Burial will follow in Shallow Well United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, 5/11/99 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

JACQUELINE "JACKIE" L. NAGELE
RALEIGH -- Jacqueline "Jackie" Lacombe Nagele, 57, of 4321 Bayliner Drive, died Monday morningat her residence after an extended illness.
She was a teacher's assistant with Brentwood Elementary School. A funeral service will be held Thursday from the Bright Funeral Home Chapel in Wake Forest. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.
Surviving are her husband, Richard G. Nagele; daughter, Debra Ann Nagele of Raleigh; son, Ron Denny Nagele of Raleigh; sister, Muriel Fredriksson of Maramac, N.H.; brothers, Richard Lacombe of Baltimore, Md. and Normand Lacombe of Manchester, N.H.; grandchildren, Richard Allen Nagele and Ron Denny Nagele.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and all other times at the home.

ANN EPLEY SAWYER
RALEIGH -- Ann Epley Sawyer, 64, died Sunday, May 9, 1999.
She was born on December 19, 1934 in Valdese, NC. Ann was the daughter of the late Herman and Ruth Perry Epley of Valdese, NC.
Mrs. Sawyer was a staunch Democrat who shared her bright smile with visitors to the State Capital Visitor's Center where she was a well loved and respected receptionist for many years.
Mrs. Sawyer is survived by her husband, Richard Sawyer, Jr. of Raleigh; a son, Richard Sawyer, III and wife, Donna of Clemmons, NC; a daughter, Elizabeth Sawyer, of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Ashley and Chelsea Sawyer, both of Clemmons, NC; two brothers, Gene Epley and, Jim Epley, both of Valdese, NC; and a sister, Blenda Autry of Morganton, NC.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609, Tuesday, May 11 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ann's name to the American Cancer Society, 11 South Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603 or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh.

ABBIE SMITH SMITH
DURHAM -- Mrs. Abbie Smith Terry passed away on Mothers Day, May 9, 1999, following an extended illness, two days before her 68th birthday. Abbie's husband of 50 years, John Pegram Terry and three children, Rodney, Alice and Mary were close by as she peacefully went to sleep.
She retired in 1991, after 23 years of employment with the Federal Government.
Mrs. Terry leaves behind her husband, John P. Terry; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Kathy Terry of Hillsborough; her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Kyle Pearce of Kannapolis; daughter, Mary Terry of Lithonia, GA; sisters, Lottie Andrews of Bahama and Ruby Smith of Terrell, TX; two devoted grandchildren, Kelly and Kevin Pearce; three step-grandchildren, Melissa, Tony and Jason Davis.
The family would also like to express gratitude to her special friends, Sandra McFraland and Nancy Neighbors
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Delores Langley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

VIOLA EASON WEEKS
GARNER -- Mrs. Viola Eason Weeks, 81, of Garner, NC, died Monday, May 10, 1999, in the Rex Hospital.
Mrs. Weeks was born in Johnston Co., NC, On October 8, 1917, the daughter of the late John Bryant and Ida Griswold Eason. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sidney Weeks.
She was employed with Southern Bell for a few years and retired as a switchboard operator with N.C. Department of Administration.
Surviving are one son, Sid Weeks and wife, Carol of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Carolyn Loftin and husband, Curtis of Catawba, NC; two brothers, Welton Eason of Smithfield, NC and J.C. Eason of Garner, NC; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in the Raleigh Memorial Park by Rev. Jim Reynolds.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Garner EMS, P.O. Box 431, Garner, NC 27529, Aversboro Road Baptist Church, 1600 Aversboro Rd, Garner, NC 27529, or to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603.

SCOTT D. WILLIAMS
SMITHFIELD -- Scott David Williams, 42, president of Jerry G. Williams & Sons, Inc., died Sunday. Scott was a loving and devoted husband, father and son.
Born in Crossett, Ark. on December 25, 1956, he was the son of Jerry G. and Virginia McCurley Williams of Smithfield. A resident of Smithfield since 1986, Scott was a member and usher at Smithfield First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hardwood Manufacturer's Association and was a member of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club and the Wayne Miniature Aeronautics Flying Club.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Smithfield First Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Gay Parramore Williams; daughters, Ashley Lauren Williams and Julie Anne Williams of the home; brother, J. Mark Williams and his wife, Lanette of Smithfield; sister, Sarah W. Williams and her husband, Bradley of Laurinburg; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the residence located at 1305 S. Crescent Drive in Smithfield from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smithfield First Baptist Church Youth Mission Fund, 202 S. Fourth St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577.

BETTY HOLLAND WOOLARD
WILLOW SPRINGS -- Betty Lou Holland Woolard, 62, died Monday. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sugg Funeral Chapel, Fuquay-Varina. Burial, Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Surviving: husband, William Henry Woolard; sons, Michael Woolard and wife Toni of Willow Springs, David Woolard and wife, Barbara of Wilson Mills; daughter, Lisa Woolard of Willow Springs; grandchildren, Kevin Tremell and Susan Woolard; mother, Maggie Holland of the home; brothers, R.W. Holland of Angier; Bobby Holland of Willow Springs; sister, Linda McGee of Willow Springs.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today, Sugg Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina.

DR. A.W. "TAL" TALBERT
APEX -- Dr. A.W. "Tal" Talbert, 70, died Thursday, July 8, 1999 after a valiant battle with caner. A native Carolinian, Dr. Talbert (known to some as "Col. Tal") held both undergraduate and doctorate degrees from UNC-CH, and had a Master of Religious Education from Southeastern Seminary. He was a former Marine Corps Colonel (fighter pilot) who fought in two wars and earned 19 decorations. After retiring in 1974, he served for several years as Town Manager of Apex before answering God's call into seminary. He was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1991, and has since served as interim pastor to several area churches. He was also an author and speaker in the field of Human Resources Development.
Dr. Talbert was the son of the late Aubrey and Beatrice Talbert.
He is survived by "his bride" Mary; daughters, Misty Mowrey, Kathy Phillips, Nancy Barnhardt, and Terry Cross; 14 grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, William C. Talbert of Houston, TX.
The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 at the Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St. (Hwy. 55), Apex, NC. A Celebration of Tal's Life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999 at St. Paul's Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh, NC 27612.
Memorials may be made to Jaars, Inc. (Jungle Aviation Arm of Wycliff Bible Translation) Box 248, Waxhaw, NC 28173, or The Tal Talbert Endowment Fund for Evangelism at St. Paul's Christian Church in Raleigh.

JAMES STEWART BARFIELD SR.
WILSON -- James Stewart Barfield, Sr., 75, died July 9, 1999. He was born June 22, 1924.
Funeral services 4 p.m. Sunday at Joyner's Funeral Home in Wilson. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Joyce Hayes Barfield; daughter, Wanda B. Coughlin of Wilson; sons, James Stewart Barfield, Jr., Ronald Kevin Barfield, Randall Keith Barfield, and Jason Stewart Barfield, all of Wilson; sisters, Doris Page of Winston-Salem and Sadie Snoddy of Tuscaloosa, AL; brother, W. L. Barfield of Wilson; 11 grandchildren.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Joyners's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West; other times at 105 Springs St., Lucama.
