JOHN HOLLIE BARKER
APEX -- John Hollie Barker, 94, of 268 Poole Road East, New Hill, died Thursday evening, July 8 at Louisburg Nursing Center, Louisburg. Mr. Barker was a retired Dairy Farmer.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 11 in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Mark Crumpler will officiate. Burial follow in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Vila Belle Barker of the home; son, Kenneth Barker of New Hill; daughter, Hilda Barker Fish of Louisburg; four grandchildren, Rheth Fish and Hollie Ann Fish, Matt Barker and Kent Barker.
Family will receive friends at the Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St. (Hwy. 55) on Saturday evening, July 10, 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Apex Resque Squad, P.O. Box 765, Apex, NC 27502, or to the charity of one's choice.

CLAUDIA B. BLACK
RANDLEMAN -- Mrs. Claudia Irene Beasley Black, 79, of 7256 Magnolia Lane, Randleman, widow of Evangelist Paul H. Black, died on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at her home.
Mrs. Black was born on October 31, 1919, in Virginia Beach, Va., daughter of the late Claude and Winona Beasley.
Mrs. Black was a home missionary and was a member of the White Plains Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Mildred Black of Randleman; a granddaughter, Paula Black Meadows of Wilkesboro; a grandson, Roger Alan Coats of Gun Barrel City, TX; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and James Johnson of Peoria, IL.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Black was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jeanette Coates.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 12, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church.
The service will be conducted by Rev. Bill Tucker, Rev. Roger Porter, and Rev. James Sweeney, with burial in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
Flowers will be accepted or monetary contributions (on behalf of the family) may be made to Moody Funeral services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

ELIZABETH G. CANTWELL
WILMINGTON -- Elizabeth Garrabrant Cantwell, died July 7, 1999.
Graveside service 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington.
Surviving: husband, Robert C. Cantwell; son, Robert C. Cantwell, IV of Wrightsville Beach; brother, William P. Garrabrant of Raleigh; niece, Mrs. Bryant Hare, IV; nephews, Peter Garrabrant, Jr. Raiford Garrabrant and Edgar C. Garrabrant.
Arrangements by Andrews Mortuary.

ALMA S. CARTER
MOREHEAD CITY -- Alma Alexander Spence Carter was born in Kinston, on February 7, 1908 and died at Taylors Extended Care in Sea Level on July 8, 1999. She was a charter member of the Queen Street Methodist Church. She was a graduate of ECTC (ECU) and taught in the Kinston City Schools for two years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Herbert Davis Spence. She was active in farming and business in Kinston and LaGrange for many years. She was active in the Girl Scouts as a leader. She was also preceded in death by George W. Carter Sr. her husband of 16 years. She had moved to her Morehead City home 15 years ago. The past 7 years she was at Sea Level.
She is survived by her daughter, Ursula Spence Foscue of Morehead City, Nina Spence Kupfer and husband, Charles of Charlotte; grandchildren are Kenny Foscue and wife, Kim Blankenship, Spence Foscue and wife, Elizabeth Bryan, Troy Foscue and wife, Adena Foscue, Alex Foscue, Ursula Foscue Brown and husband, Todd Brown, Herbert Spence Kupfer, Charles Kupfer and wife, Cindy Kupfer, Andrew Kupfer and wife, Holly Kupfer. She also has 10 great-grandchildren.
Mother was charming, pretty, incredibly tough minded, and good company. She will be missed by her family.
A memorial service, with the Reverend H. King Cole officiating, will be held at 3313 Evans Street, Morehead City at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

RICHARD W. COOPER
WINDSOR -- Richard Watson Cooper, 81, of 207 Crescent Drive, died Thursday, July 8, 1999 in Pitt Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Bertie County and a member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church and Charity Lodge #5. Mr. Cooper was the owner and founder of Richard Cooper Agency. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina for more than 50 years.
A funeral service will Sunday, July 11, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church by the Rev. Barbara Chaffee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include wife, Edna Rawls Cooper of Windsor; step sons,Jerry Ward of Norfolk, Va., L. Murray Ward of Windsor, Fred Berger of Brownstown, Mi.; step daughter, Dottie Berger of Derry, N.H.; sister, Elizabeth W. Cooper of Windsor; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece; four nephews.
The family will receive friends at their home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 302 S. Queen St., Windsor, N.C. 27983 or to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 74, Windsor, N.C. 27983.
Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ESTELLE COLTRAIN COREY
WILLIAMSTON -- Mrs. Estelle Coltrain Corey, 93, died Friday, July 9, 1999 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service 4 p.m. Sunday, First Christian Church. Burial, Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Corey was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. She married Joe Grey Corey, who died in July of 1973.
she is survived by a brother, Albert Coltrain of Enfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 209 Ray Street.
Memorials may be made to the elevator fund at First Christian Church.

ANN E. CRITCHER
Nov. 13, 1930 - JULY 8, 1999
GARNER -- Ann Edwards Critcher, 68, of 914 Brooks Ave., passed away Thursday. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her many acts of loving kindness, her grace and sense of humor. As a founding member of Turner Memorial Baptist Church, she dedicated her life to the service of the Lord.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: husband, Ray T. Critcher; daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Jerry Jones of Clayton, Jan and Jimmy Stone of Goldsboro, and Melody and Barry Lineberger of Raleigh; sister, Mary Gaskins Wingate of Bath; brother, Reggie Edwards of Grimesland; grandchildren, Caleb, Justin, Seth, Jared, Ethan, Erin, and Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, she wished for memorial contributions to be made to the Turner Memorial Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3704 Benson Hwy., Garner, NC 27529.
Visitation, 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

LARRY SCOTT EZZELL SR.
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Larry S. Ezzell, 48, of Angier, died Thursday, July 8, 1999. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sugg Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.Surviving: wife, Portia Wilson Ezzell, Larry Scott Ezzell Jr. and Jason Kenneth Ezzell, all of Angier; two sisters, Deborah Ann Ezzell of Sarasota, Fla. and Hazel Ezzell Burns of Rutherfordton.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Sugg Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina.

VIRGINIA S. HARTON
DURHAM -- Mrs. Virginia S. Harton, died at home on Thursday, July 8th. She was born in Keyser, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Alberta Spotts and moved to Durham with her late husband, Wayland D. Harton in 1946. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sarah McCracken Sunday School Class. She was also active in the Northgate Presbyterian Senior Citizens Center. In previous years, she was a private child care provider.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Latta of Durham; two sons, Charles D. Harton and his wife, Carolyn of Hillsborough and Jack Harton of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Family visitation will be at the home on LaSalle Street Saturday evening and at Clements Funeral Home on Broad Street Sunday evening, July 11th from 7 to 9.
A funeral service will be held at Asbury Methodist Church on Monday, July 12th at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Kenneth Hall. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Asbury Methodist Church c/o Tape Ministry, 806 Clarendon St., Durham, N.C. 27705.

ROSE FILOSA MASTANDUNO
FAYETTEVILLE -- Rose Filosa Mastanduno, 100, formerly of Altoona, PA, died Friday, at Highland House Nursing home.
Mrs. Mastanduno was born, March 30, 1899 in Trivio Latina, Italy.
Graveside service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 1999, St. John's Cemetery, New York.
Surviving: daughter, Rose Scott of Fayetteville; sons, James Mastanduno of Wilmington; Arthur Mastanduno of Howard Beach, NY; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

GERALAND EDGAR MAY
ROUGEMONT -- Geraland Edgar May, 85, of 1221 Bill Poole Road, Rougemont, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. May was a native of Nash County and had lived in Durham County for the past 40 years. He was the son of the late George Richard and Mabel Whitfield May. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Navy. During his 20 years of military service, he served on the USS Idaho Battleship, Cargo Handling Battalion and the USS Incredible Minesweep. He represented the USS Idaho on the boxing team and went on to win the feather weight title in Golden Gloves. He operated the Washo Kennels, raising and training Beagles, including several field champions.
He was married on September 20, 1938, to Margaret "Maggie" Walston May who survives. Also surviving are one son, Winston May and wife Linda of Rougemont; two grandchildren, Matthew May and Mike Harp.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George Richard May and a sister, Madge May Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Dan Hill will officiate. Burial will be in the Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mike Harp and Matt May, and friends, Thomas Chambers, Craig Chambers, Red Pearce and Earl Zimmerman.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the Hudson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Winston May, 1305 Bill Poole Road, Rougemont.

LUCILLE T. McIVER
RALEIGH -- Lucille T. McIver, of 3240 Tryon Road, died on Wednesday, July 7, at Wake Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 1999 at St John's A.M.E. Church. Visitation precedes the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial takes place at 11 a.m. Monday at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Phyllis M. Burt of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Karen Burt Holmes, Kristie Burt and Kenneth Burt, all of Raleigh; four sisters, Rosa Hunt of Raleigh, Mamie Kearney of Apex, Elean Terrell and Hattie McCullers, both of Baltimore, Md.; three great-grandchildren; host of other relatives and friends.
