ZIAGUL REIZA NAJAFIE
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Ziagul Reiza Najafie, 82, of Alexandria, Va, died July 7, 1999. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 10, 1999 from 1-3 p.m at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street. The graveside service will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Mrs. Najafie is survived by her sons, Ehsan Najafie, Farid A. Najafie and Azim M. Najafie, all of Raleigh and owners of 7-Even and the Super 7-Even, and Fahim A. Najafie of Alexandria, Va.; daughters, Zakia Houssiny of Springfield, Va., Sahla Safder of Alexandria, Va. and Safia Perzad of Afghanistan; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
PATRICIA LOUISE PERRY
LOUISBURG -- Patricia Louise Perry, age 58, died Thursday, July 8, 1999 at her home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Rock Spring Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Carl Poole. Burial will follow in the Bunn Cemetery.
Surviving: sister, Margaret Frazier, Florida; brothers, Malcolm Perry, Youngsville and Cleveland White of the home.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home.
ROBERT L. "BOB" PLEASANT
KNIGHTDALE -- Robert Lawrence "Bob" Pleasant, 53, of 4040 Smithfield Road, died Friday, July 9, 1999 at Wake Med.
He was born in Person County. He was the owner of C & A Equipment Service and an Army veteran.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 1999 at Brooks & White. Burial, Lea's Chapel United Methodist Church, Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Jody Bridgers, Jack Debnam, Bill Fish, Phil Goodson, Jeff Lynch, Juan Martinez, Valentin Martinez, Glenn Whitlock, Hubert Yates and Jack Debnam. Honorary Pallbearers, Jimmy Hewitt, Craig Norris and Jim Simmons.
Surviving: faithful companion, Bonita Haynes of Knightdale; step daughter, Jennifer Blake Parker of Raleigh; sisters, Joann Brann and Ida Kendrick, both of Leasburg, Dorothy Oakes of Yanceyville, Jennie Mae Parker of Roxboro; brother, John Pleasant of Roxboro; step-granddaughter, Caroline Parker of Raleigh; step-grandson, Daniel Parker of Raleigh.
Family will receive friends at Brooks & White on Saturday, July 10, 1999 from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Ida Kendrick, 8819 Leasburg Road, Leasburg, N.C.

ROBERT EARL QUINCY
TARBORO -- Robert Earl Quincy, 85, died Wednesday.
Graveside service 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Julian Thompson officiating.
Survivors: daughter, Betty Lou Moody of Marlboro, Md.; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Earl and Jane Quincy Jr. of Raleigh, Jack Miller Quincy of Charlotte Hall, Md.; brother, Jake Quincy of Morganton; grandchildren, Robin Moody, Terri Norris and Chris Quincy; great-grandchild, Savanna Norris.
The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home Saturday from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
HENRY A. REITFORT
LITTLETON -- HenryAnthony Reitfort, 83, of 1515 Golf Course Rd., died Thursday at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
He graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY in 1937 with a BSEE degree.
In 1942 the joined the US Navy and stayed until 1945, and acquired the Rank of Lieutenant. He started working with IBM in 1937 where he worked in many areas, most recently in Endicott, NY and the Research Triangle Park in Raleigh-Durham, NC. He acquired many Patents and retired in 1971 after 34 years with the company. He built a lakeside home at Lake Gaston after retiring and enjoyed wood working and gardening all his retired life.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 1999 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Surviving is his wife, Dot C. Reitfort; a daughter, Susan Jean Reitfort of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Connie Leigh Reitfort of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Laurel Reitfort; a sister, Margaret Boeck of NY.

CARL CLAYTON RUFFIN
WILSON -- Carl Clayton Ruffin, 82, died Thursday, July 8, 1999. He was born September 8, 1916.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Sunday at Joyner's Funeral Home with Rev. Gordan Sebastian officiating. Burial, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Survivors: daughter, Carol Townsend of Wilson; sons, Carl Clayton Ruffin Jr. of Farmville and Lindwood Ruffin of Wilson; sister, Hazel Jenkins of Wilson; brothers, Morris Ruffin of Town Creek, Daniel Ruffin of Black Creek and Harvey Ruffin of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM ARNOLD SMITH
WILMINGTON -- William Arnold Smith of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 1999 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born September 5, 1926 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, the son of the late R.W. Smith Sr. and Alice Coats Smith and was raised on an active farm that raised beef cattle and varied cash crops.
Arnold graduated with a BS from Wake Forest University with his education interrupted by service in the US Marine Corps during WWII. Afterwards, he graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, studied for two years in Edinboro, Scotland on his Doctorate and pastored several churches. He took evening classes at American University Law School, Washington, DC, while working for Senators Everett Jordan and Sam Ervin in the US Senate.
After graduating law school, he worked with the Senate Judiciary Committee at the outbreak of the Watergate investigation and left Washington when U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark appointed him as Asst U.S. Attorney in Raleigh, NC.
He entered private practice as an attorney in Raleigh in 1968 and moved his law practice to Wilmington, in 1979. He was an active member of Alcoholic Anonymous for over 23 years helping many people along the path and was actively involved with the PALS program in the North Carolina State Bar.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Ransom Smith Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Vann Smith of the home and three daughters, Jennifer Counihan and husband, Mike of Columbus, Mississippi, Janice Lytle and husband, Thomas of Hampton, Virginia, and Cindy Auten and husband, Kim of Wilmington; two stepchildren, Mary Anne Watts and husband, Ron, and Tom Cox and wife, Penny of Wilmington; brother, Eugene Smith of Georgetown, SC; a sister, Rebecca Bunn of Emerald Isle; a mother-in-law, Iula Vann of Clinton; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. James McCabe and the staff of Five South at the hospital.
The pallbearers will be Lee Byrd, Alvin Edgerton, Barry Hutchins, Jim Marshall, Mitch Odess and Thomas Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be T. Davis Bunn, Marion Davis, Floyd Fanjoy, Sam Foushee, B.R. McLeod and Hubert Owen.
The funeral service will be held at St. James Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 1999, with Rev. Robert Cook and Rev. Drake Whitelaw officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at Andrew Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, Wilmington, NC.

VICTORIA JOHNSON STEPHENS
KENANSVILLE -- Victoria Johnson Stephens, 84, passed away Thursday, July 8, 1999 at Mayview Convalescent Home of Raleigh.
Born November 26, 1914 to Mr. LeRoy Johnson and Mrs. Atwood Peterson Johnson of Duplin County, Mrs. Stephens was the widow of the late Mr. Paul R. Stephens.
Surviving Mrs. Stephens are one daughter, Nancy S. Yancey and husband, Dan Yancey, of Raleigh; granddaughter, Allison Yancey of Raleigh; brothers and sisters,Adrian Johnson and wife, Phoebie of Rose Hill, Willie Johnson and wife, Nancy of Orlando, FL, Pauline Wells of Rose Hill, Mattie Farrior of Wallace; sister-in-law, Mildred Johnson of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents and husband, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by two brothers, Ashby Johnson, Ransom Johnson and wife, Mary; sister, Katie Johnson; brothers-in-law, Julian Wells and Hugh Farrior.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 1999 at Grove Presbyterian Church in Kenansville. The Rev. Dr. William Bland will officiate. Burial will follow at Golden Grove Cemetery of Kenansville.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. Family and friends will be received, at other times at the Kenansville home.

JOSEPHINE MORGAN UPCHURCH
GOLDSBORO -- Mrs. Josephine Morgan Upchurch, formerly of Raleigh, died on Wed. July 7, 1999 in Goldsboro, where she has lived for several years. Mrs. Upchurch spent most of her life supporting the Fine Arts. She has been a member of the North Carolina Poetry Society since 1969; a member of The National League of American Pen Women; and The Sir Walter Raleigh Chapter of the North Carolina Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century.
Mrs. Upchurch was the first Director of the Cherokee County Historical Museum. She attended the Andrews Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh. There will be no graveside service.
BEVERLY D. WEAVER
CLAYTON -- Beverly Davis Weaver, 39, died Friday.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at McLaurin Funeral Home. Dr. Jarrod Scott officiating. Burial, Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by husband, Barry Weaver; daughter, Hannah Brooke Weaver of Clayton; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Hope Weaver of Clayton; mother, Bobbie Blackmon of Clayton; sister, Jennifer Smith of Kenly; brother, Tim Davis of Clayton; mother-in-law, Shirley Weaver.

FRANCIS P. WHITLEY
MOREHEAD CITY -- Francis P. Whitley, 81, died Thursday, July 8, 1999 at Bayview Nursing Center in New Bern. He was a retired Pentecostal Holiness Minister.
Graveside services 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 at Bayview Cemetery with Rev. Ben Whitley officiating.
Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his wife, Sally V. Whitley, a nd a son, Raymond Whitley.
Survivors: daughter, JoAnn Norton of Garner, NC; sons, Ben Whitley of Jacksonville, FL, Jimmy Whitley and Donald Whitley, both of Raleigh, NC, and Ronald Whitley of Selma, NC; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

EARL J. HOLLEMAN
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Earl J. Holleman, 73, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at home after an extended battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
He was the founder of M&H Radio and TV Service and M&H Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. He retired 11 years ago and was well known for his honesty and his strong Christian faith. Mr. Holleman was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; the Masonic Lodge No. 258 and the Wake County Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stephenson Holleman and his parents, Freeman and Tessie Holleman.
Mr. Holleman is survived by his wife of 23 years, Edythe Williams Flowers Holleman; sister, Ernestine McLaurin and husband, Lacy and brother, Eugene Holleman and wife, Margie, all of Fuquay-Varina; stepdaughters, Teresa Flowers Giles and Denise Flowers Harr and husband, John, all of Raleigh; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Lynton S. Stephenson and wife, Joyce of New Bern and John L. Stephenson and wife, Lonnie of Fuquay-Varina.
