ERVIN T. "E.T." KORNEGAY
BLACKSBURG, VA -- Ervin Thaddeus (E.T.) Kornegay, 68, died on Friday, July 2, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Goode Kornegay; daughters, Susan Kornegay Henson of Columbia, Missouri, Cynthia Kornegay Waters and son-in-law Rexford Anson Waters of Burlington, NC, Jennifer Goode Kornegay of Arlington, VA; mother, Mildred Merritt Kornegay of Albertson, NC; brothers, Kenneth Kornegay of Elizabethtown, NC, Nick Kornegay of Kinston, NC; and grandchildren, Brittany Henson, Heather Waters, Kelly Waters, Matthew Waters, and Bradley Waters. He was preceded in death by his father, Irving Kornegay.
Dr. Kornegay was a professor at VPI&SU (Virginia Tech) in the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences. His broad interest in animal production started at an early age on his family's farm in eastern North Carolina. This interest led him to North Carolina State Univ. for B.S. and M.S. degrees, followed by a Ph.D. from Michigan State Univ. During his early career, he served as a N.C. Extension Agent in New Bern, NC. He has received many awards throughout the years, most notably the 1998 "American Society of Animal Science Morrison Award" for his meritorious international scientific contributions. This is the highest award for research in the field of animal and poultry science. He was world renowned for his innovative research, and, most recently, his work related to waste management and reducing environmental pollution. He was also the major professor for more than 40 graduate students.
He was active in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church for 31 years and served on several committees, including Chairman of the Administrative Board and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
He served two years on active duty in the US Army, then 32 years in the Army Reserves. He retired as a Colonel in 1986.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, at 11 a.m., at the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Herb Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Habitat for Humanity (c/o the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 931, Blacksburg, VA 24063), the Blacksburg United Methodist Memorial Fund, or other charity of your choice.

NELLA T. SCOTT
ZEBULON -- Nella Tuten Scott, 79, died July 2, 1999 at Wellington Nursing Center of Knightdale.
Nella is survived by her husband, S.P. Scott of Zebulon; son, Rev. Shannon P. Scott and wife, Zelma of Raleigh; daughter, Pat Bland and husband, Rodney Bland of Ahoskie; granddaughter, Vanessa McLamb and husband, Alex of Fuquay-Varina; grandson, Rev. Jarrod Scott and wife, Julie of Middlesex; sister, Gladys Felton of Charleston, S.C.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Tuten of Charleston, S.C. Nella's kind and godly love was felt by all who knew her.
Funeral 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, 1999 at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church. Burial in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon. The family will receive friends, 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at Family Funeral Care, 1201 N. Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, 919-269-9377.

JAMES T. "TED" STROTHER
RALEIGH -- James T. "Ted" Strother, 85, of 1437 Chester Rd., Raleigh, died Thursday morning at his home.
Ted was preceded in death by his daughter Silvia Whitfield. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Stoudenmire Strother; daughter Anna Creech and her husband Carl; daughter Helen Lindsey and her husband Herman; grandchildren, Kevin and Karen Creech, and James and Katherine Lindsey; brother, Charles E. Strother of Sun City, CA; sisters-in-law, Loleta Adkins and Florence Terry; brothers-in-law, J.L., W.E. and Jack Stoudenmire, also special friends Joe and Jane Whitfield.
The family will be receiving at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to North Street Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.

IRMA W. WHITE
SCOTLAND NECK -- Irma Wommack White, 92, died at home on July 3, 1999. Mrs. White, born and reared in Scotland Neck, was the daughter of the late Spencer Thomas Wommack and Lucy Savage Wommack. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Augustus White, and son, Spencer Wommack White.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. White is survived by her children, Irma Laura White of Morehead City, Mary Eliza W. Davis, Allen A. White, Jr., and Charles E. White, all of Raleigh; sisters, Reba W. Kitchin and Hazel W. Hanff, both of Scotland Neck; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 5th at the home of Mills Kitchin, 1723 N. Main Street, Scotland Neck.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scotland Neck Rescue Squad, Box 13, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.
Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home, Scotland Neck.

COLONEL C. GRANT DUNNAGAN
RALEIGH -- Colonel C. Grant Dunnagan, died early Saturday, July 24, 1999 at home.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Grant and Charles Andrews and daughter-in-law, Kimberly; grandchildren, Grant, Erik, Brad, Erin, Josh and Kate, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Lola Frances Smith of Fayetteville.
Born September 10, 1924 in Winston-Salem, NC, Grant grew up in Yadkinville and Manteo, NC, completing high school in Manteo where he lettered in football, basketball, and boxing for three years each.
In 1943, Grant enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Pacific during World War II. At the end of the War he retuned stateside and met his future wife, Marie Elizabeth Andrews of Raleigh, NC. Married in May, 1946, he enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill. Upon graduation with an AB degree in Journalism, Grant applied for a commission in the United States Marine Corps and was accepted.
Grant served at various posts and stations, most notably Korea and Vietnam, before retiring to Raleigh in 1973.
Graveside service will be Monday, 1 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, with Dr. Edwin W. Stock Jr. of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 111 W. Morgan St., Raleigh, NC 27601 or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
Arrangements by Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street.

LESTER LEE BAKER
RALEIGH -- Lester Lee Baker, age 73, of 5505 Pamela Dr., Raleigh, died athis home July 22, 1999. Mr. Baker was a retired auto mechanic, a native of Wake Co. and a Navy Veteran.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Clara Baker in 1997.Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel officiating will be Dr. Andrew Pickens. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
Survivors are: special friend, Ethel Lee of Clayton; daughters, Eva M. Potter and husband, David of Raleigh, Paula L. Baumgartel and husband, John of Newnan, GA; sons, Dennis J. Brehio and wife, Pauline of Providence, RI, Charles Baker and wife, Margie of Troy, Maine, Lester Baker, Jr., and wife, Tina of Wilmington; brothers, Carlton Baker and Sidney Baker, both of Raleigh, Lynwood Baker of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters, Marie Alderman and husband, Bill of Morehead City, Janet Pilkington and husband, Billy of Wilmington, Berlina Harris and husband, Stanley of Raleigh; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 1999, at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy 55) Apex, and others at this home.

DONALD R. BAKER
May 23, 1955 - July 23, 1999
ANGIER -- Donald Ray Baker, 44 of 240 Langdon Road, died Friday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Lee Chapel. Burial, Lakeside Memorial Garden.
Surviving: wife, Connie E. Baker; daughters, Heather Baker and Casey Baker both of the home; mother, Estelle W, Baker of Angier; sisters, Elaine Johnson of Beaufort, Debbie Matthews of Buies Creek and Joyce Lamm of Lillington. He was predeceased by his father, Civey W. Baker.
The family will receive friends, 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.

EMMA B. BASS
BLACK CREEK -- Emma Bass Bass, 89, widow of Russell Bass, died Saturday, July 24, 1999. She was Preceded in death by a grandson, David Narron.
Funeral, Monday, 11:00 a.m., Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel, conducted by Elder Rudy Jones. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: daughters and their husbands, Faye and W.H. Tomlinson, Nora and Elwood Narron, all of Black Creek; grandchildren, Janie Yelverton, Susan Jones, Tim Narron, Nora Ward and Ann G. Narron; eight great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home, today, 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Upper Black Creek and Lower Black Creek Primitive Baptist Churches.

VICTOR R. BENNETT
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Victor Robert Bennett, 70, died Thursday, July 22, 1999.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 1999 at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie L. and Maude S. Bennett and a sister, Valinda Bennett.
Surviving: wife, Nancy D. Bennett; son, Victor Robert Bennett Jr. of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Don L. Bennett and wife, Ramona of Albermarle; mother-in-law, Frances L. Dillard of Wake Forest; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Irene Dillard, Earl and Teresa Dillard, Brian and Rhonda Dillard, all of Wake Forest, Randy and Judy Dillard of Franklinton; several cousins; nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hearts of Joy Senior Citizen Ministry of the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church, P.O. Box 940, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

WESLEY B. FRAME
RALEIGH -- Wes Frame, a local Landscape Architect, passed away at his home in Raleigh on July 22nd, at the age of 60.
Born in Staten Island, New York, he attended Paul Smith's College and received a degree in Forestry. He attended NC State University, School of Design where received his degree in Landscape Architecture.
He was employed by Envirotek, Inc, working as a Landscape Architect and a designer for storm drainage and erosion control.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Ida; his son, Jimmy and his wife, Cindy and their two children, Dillion and Katherine; his son, Wil and his wife, Mari and their daughter, Maren; his daughter, Betsie and her husband, Martin and their baby daughter due in December; father, Jim Frame and a sister, Nancy Jacobs, a niece and two nephews, all from Raleigh; his aunt, Harriett Booth from Virginia Beach, VA.
Wes was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn and his sister, June.
Memorial services to be held at Christ Community Church, Ebenezer Church Road, Raleigh, N.C. on Friday, July 30th and 3:00 p.m.
Memorials can be made to DUMC-Duke Children's Hospital, Durham, N.C.

GEORGE A. HARDING
CHAPEL HILL -- George A. Harding passed away Saturday, July 17, 1999. He was born in Lawrence, Kan. on June 1, 1918.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sarajane of 57 years. His loving family includes daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and John Stow; three grandsons, Ryan, Jeff and Kevin Stow. Many other friends and relatives will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Advent Lutheran Church in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Research or to your chosen charity.
Arrangements by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

BENJAMIN F. HARNEY III
JULY 29, 1986 - JULY 22, 1999
ANGIER -- Benjamin F. Harney III, age 12, died at his home at 173 Derby Point, Guyton, Georgia.
Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Monday at Bryan-Lee Chapel, Angier. Burial at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington.
Surviving: father, Ben F. Harney, Jr.; grandparents, Ezzell and Becky Partin of Angier; aunt, Jane K. Jones of Angier and great grandmother, Leona Stephenson of Angier. He was preceded in death by his mother Dianne King Harney in November 1995.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier, 10-11 a.m. Monday and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ezzell Partin, 375 Matthews Mill Road, Angier.
