JOHN E. (JACK) PARKER JR.
RALEIGH -- John E. "Jack" Parker Jr., 51, of Raleigh, died Monday, September 13, 1999.
Jack was a V.P. of Corporate & Financial Information Services (CFIS) for 28 years at Glaxo Wellcome.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Diane B. Parker; son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Mary Beth Parker III of Hope Mills; father, John E. Parker Sr. of Trenton; sisters, Elaine P. Saleeby of Hope Mills and Susan P. Camaret of Trenton; great-aunts, Mrs. Josephine Bender of Pollocksville, Mrs. Gertrude Newsome of Cape Carteret; nieces, Lisa Powell of Hope Mills, Danielle Camaret of Winston-Salem, Dana and Lori Roberts of Villa Rica, Ga., Alessandra Brown of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
A memorial service for Mr. Parker will be held Friday, September 17, at 2 p.m. at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church with Reverend Camille Yorkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. 27603 or Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7506 Fall of Neuse Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27615.

IAN INNES POCOCK
RALEIGH -- Ian Innes Pocock, 75, of 215 Bramble Ct., Raleigh, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999, at REx Healthcare. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 1999 in the chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road.
Mr. Pocock was born March 3, 1924, in Jamaica, West Indies, the son of the late Arthur Innes and Constance Talbot Pocock. He served in the Air Force during World War II, was in wholesale petroleum sales, and was of the Episcopalian faith.
Surviving: sons, Dale Innes Pocock of Charlotte, Derek Innes Pocock of Garland TX; grandchildren, Marla Innes Pocock, Mark Innes Pocock, Talbot Innes Pocock, Tyler Innes Pocock, Torey Innes Pocock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., 4th Floor, Raleigh,NC 27605.

MICHAEL LYNN BASS
ROCKY MOUNT -- Michael Lynn Bass, 53, died, Wednesday, September 15, 1999.
He was born February 3, 1946 in Morehead City, the son of the late Harvey Bass and Velma Aycock Bass.
He served in the US Airforce and was employed by Firestone in Wilson. He was a member of Aenon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy K. Bass of the home; three brothers, Gerald Bass of Raleigh; Verlon Bass of Newbern, and Royce Bass of Thomasville; three sisters, Joyce Bass, Beth Edwards, both of Havelock and Beverly Hardison of New Bern; aunt, Sadie Aycock of Lucama; uncle, Preston Aycock of Lucama.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 1999 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Webb officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC.

MARGARET K. BOYD
ORO VALLEY, AZ -- Margaret K. Boyd, 87, of Oro Valley, AZ, passed away Sept. 11, 1999, after a lengthy illness.
She moved to Arizona from Boca Raton, FL, after her husband, Warren, predeceased her.
She is survived by children, Stewart from Modena, NY, Diane from Poughkeepsie, NY, Gary from Highland, NY, Roger of Chapel Hill and David from Oro Valley, AZ; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made in Margaret's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
"Loving thanks to all who cared for her in her final days."

GABLE J. "JACK" HUPP JR.
SOUTH BOSTON, VA -- Mr. Gable Jackson "Jack" Hupp, Jr., 66, died September 15, 1999 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in South Boston on Feb. 16, 1933. He was the son of Mr. Gable Jackson Hupp, Sr. and Mrs. Evelyn Copley Hupp. He was married to Mary Ellen Kilgore Hupp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and usher, a member of the Lacy Bible Class and a former teacher in the Youth Department. He was a former member of the South Boston Lions Club, past president and treasurer of The Sertoma Club. He was the manager of the Virginia Employment Commission in South Boston.
Surviving: wife, Mary Ellen Kilgore Hupp; daughters, Catherine H. and Bobby W. Ratliff of South Boston, Wendy Renee Hupp of Richmond; mother, Evelyn Copley Hupp of South Boston; sister, Elaine H. Motley and husband, Nelson of South Boston; brothers, Dale S. Hupp and wife, Vivian of Richmond, Norman C. Hupp and wife, Becky of Garner, NC, Douglas C. Hupp and wife, Pat of Richmond; two grandchildren, Lauren N. and Matthew A. Ratliff of South Boston.
Preceded in death by one brother, Robert C. Hupp and his father, Gable Jackson Hupp, Sr.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 17, 1999 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Fox conducting the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home, 301 Monroe Street, South Boston.
For memorials please consider the Halifax County Cancer Association or the First Baptist Church.

ASHER LANGDON JOSLIN
WEBSTER, MA -- Asher Langdon Joslin, 89, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999. He was born in Webster, Massachusetts, June 19, 1910, the son of the late Clara Elizabeth Langdon and Ernest Asher Joslin. He graduated cum laude in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1933 and later studied at Cornell University. He served in the European theater as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy as a deep-sea diver during World War II. In 1947 he moved to Danville where he worked at Dan River Mills until his retirement. He was active in numerous civic and cultural organizations in Danville including the Lions Club. He attended Epiphany Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry.
He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Brockwell Joslin, who died on April 19, 1999.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Louise Joslin Sexton who is known by her professional name, Emyl Jenkins, and son-in-law, Robert M. Sexton; grandson, Langdon Jenkins; and a granddaughter, Joslin Jenkins Hultzapple of Richmond.
A graveside service will be held in Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina, at 12 noon, Saturday, September 18.

CARL TYRONE MILLS JR.
NASHVILLE -- Carl Tyrone Mill Jr., 32, died September 13. Funeral service 1 p.m. Friday at William Toney's Funeral Home Chapel, Spring Hope. Burial, Spring Hope Memorial Garden.
Surviving: wife, Carissa Samara-Mills; daughter, Sierra Grace Mills; his parents, Carl Tyrone Mills Sr., and Barbara Bryant Mills of Nashville; three brothers, Brian and Craig Mills of Raleigh and Jasen Mills of Nashville; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Bryant of Nashville.
Visitation, 7-8 p.m. Thursday at William Toney's Funeral Home, Spring Hope.

DENNETT EUGENE RANSOM
FRISCO -- Dennett Eugene Ransom, 66, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Ransom was born in Norfolk, Va., and was a retired teacher and principle of Cape Hatteras Union Schools. He was a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church; past president of the Cape Hatteras Water Assoc., Former Boy Scout Master Troop #176 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Ransom is the son of the late Dennett Henry Ransom and the late Ella Mae Rollinson Ransom.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Burrus Ransom of the residence; one son, Dennett Adolphus Ransom of Frisco; one brother, Ellis Melvin Ransom also of Frisco.
A memorial service will be held at Hatteras United Methodist Church Sunday, September 26, 1999 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Jim Huskins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, P.O. Box 3600, Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC 27705.
Twiford Island Chapel is handling the arrangements.

FLORENCE I. RUBOW
WAKE FOREST -- Florence I. Rubow of 611 S. Brook St., formerly of 8533 110th St. Seminole, FL, died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Bryant and Addie Lyons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Rubow.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday from the Woodall Anderson Funeral Home in Johnson City Tennessee. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Surviving: son, Lloyd Hal Blevins, Sr. of Alpharetta, GA; grandsons, Lloyd Hall Blevins Jr. of Wake Forest, Thomas Garrett Blevins of Greenville, NC, John Sells Blevins of Atlanta, GA; great-grandsons, Lloyd Hall Blevins III and William Bryant Blevins, both of Wake Forest; sisters, Helen Norris of Palm Coast, FL, Mabel Reed of St. Petersburg, FL; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 10-12 p.m. Friday at Woodall Anderson Funeral Home in Johnson City Tennessee.
Local arrangements by Bright Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

AGNES BRETT UPCHURCH
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Agnes Brett Upchurch, 95, of Rex Convalescent Center, Raleigh, NC, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999.
Mrs. Upchurch was born in Hertford Co., NC on January 25, 1904, the daughter of the late John Paul and Stella Hayes Brett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melzar Jackson Upchurch.
Surviving are one son, Edward Upchurch of Warren, RI; one daughter, Judy McGhee of Raleigh, NC; half-sister, Eloise Dempsey of FL; nine grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, September 17, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home, St. Mary's St., Chapel by Rev. Conway Lanford. Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh.

IVAN MARTIN BRENNAN
TUCSON, AZ -- Ivan Martin Brennan, born in Arlington, VA on September 13, 1978, died in Tucson, Arizona, July 16, 1999. He was the beloved son of Tina Martin and Michael Brennan and stepparents, John Kreilkamp and Jody Brennan. He had two sisters, Jade Brennan and Stella Kreilkamp and a foster sister, Shirley Wetherholt.
Ivan attended Hale and Broughton High Schools in Raleigh, NC. He loved music and was an avid reader and student of classic literature who wrote beautiful poetry. His presence in the lives of his friends and large extended family will be sorely missed.
He is survived by grandparents, Anne Martin, Rita Brennan and Jack Brennan; great-aunt, Kale McCarthy; great-uncle, Paul McCarthy; uncles, Tony Martin and John Brennan; and aunt, Eleni Martin.
Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 1999 at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3313 Wade Avenue, Raleigh, NC.

DIXIE BARBER CAHALL
RALEIGH -- Dixie Barber Cahall, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Wake County, October 7, 1927 and lived in Wake County all her life.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert M. Cahall, Jr; children, Robert M. Cahall, III of Wendell, Dixie Catherine Cahall and Mark Alan Cahall, both of Raleigh; grandchildren, Robert M. Cahall, IV of Carrboro, Jessica Marie Cahall of Greenville; sisters, Betty Ferrell of Raleigh, Robbie McSwain of Seven Springs.
Visitation will be at the residence, 2335 Lyon St., Raleigh, Sunday August 1, 1999 from 1-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 400 Oberlin Rd., Suite 208, Raleigh, NC 27605.
