RALEIGH -- Lester Maxwell Greene, Jr., 69, retired president of Stainless Steel Fabricators, died Saturday, October 2, 1999.
Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 1999 at Sorrells Grove Baptist Church, followed by visitation in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Sorrells Grove Baptist Church, 210 Sorrells Grove Church Rd., Morrisville, NC 27560.

LETA MAE HARE
RALEIGH -- Leta Mae Hare, 80, died Thursday, October 7, 1999. Graveside service 3 p.m. Saturday, Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by sons, Thomas "Pete" Workman of Wendell, AL Workman of Clayton, Robert Workman of Pinehurst; son-in-law, Almos Lowery of Garner; stepdaughter, Molly Avery of Raleigh; brother, Thomas Oglesby of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Montlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

FLORENCE L. HOLLEY
SMITHFIELD -- Florence Lawhorn Holley, 76, of Galilee Rd., died Thursday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Burial will be in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.
Surviving: husband, Lester Holley; son, Freeman Holley of Smithfield; daughters, Edith Parker of Four Oaks, Sue Baker of Smithfield; brothers, Ray Lawhorn of Garner; Sam Lawhorn, Jr. of Selma; sisters, Annie Crumpler of Smithfield, Margie Massengill of Four Oaks; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday evening.

DEBRA NELSON McCALL
RALEIGH -- Debra Nelson McCall, 43, of Newport News, Virginia, died Thursday, October 7, 1999. She was born in Cumberland Co., NC, on April 5, 1956.
Mrs. McCall was survived by her mother, Dorothy Nelson Huffstetler of Raleigh; two sons, Brian and Kevin Farmer, both of Durham; a sister, Patricia E. Leano of California; a step brother, Steven P. Huffstetler of Raleigh; her grandmother, May Nelson of Raleigh; four nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Huffstetler.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9, at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home - 600 St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Friends and family may call at Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, October 8th from 7-9 p.m. If desired, donations to the American Cancer Society-Brest Cancer Research, 620 W. Morgan St., Raleigh, NC 27603.

SEPT. 1, 1930-OCT. 5, 1999
ROCKY MOUNT -- Ruth Carroll Morse, 69, of 3004 Jason Dr. formerly of Raleigh, died Tuesday, October 5, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Memorial Service, Saturday, October 30, 1999, 8:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Garner, N.C.
The Family will receive friends, Saturday evening October 9th at the home of Sylvia Blanchard, Barbour Store Rd., Willow Spring.

CLAUDE MORTON JR.
PINEHURST -- With deep sympathy, I regret to announce the death of Claude Morton Jr., the father of Richard A. Morton. Claude passed away Wednesday evening, October 6, 1999 following a stroke and subsequent complications.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama and served his country during World War II in the United States Army where he was wounded in Italy. Following his discharge from the service he attended Auburn University. Claude went on to have a distinguished career in the real estate and investment fields and held senior executive positions with Equitable Life Assurance, Columbia University's Office of investments, and Citibank.
Claude and his wife, Emily moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina approximately nine years ago following his retirement.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9, at 11 a.m. at the Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Pinehurst, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, North Carolina28374, 910-235-0366.
Survivors: wife, Emily Cammack Morton of the home; three sons, Claude Cammack (Camm) Morton of Raleigh, Richard Ashley Morton Scarsdale, NY, Phillip Gregory Morton of New York, NY; two sisters, Caroline Morton Raughley of Birmingham, Ala., Virginia Morton McGrmick of Birmingham, Ala., and four grandchildren.
The family will also receive visitors at their home.

FELIX N. "NICK" NICHOLS
SMTHFIELD -- Felix Norman "Nick" Nichols, 71, died Thursday morning. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. in the chapel of Underwood Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Willa Jernigan Nicols; son, Ennis N. Nichols of Bent Mountain, VA; stepson, Joseph Peacock of Jacksonville; daughter, Carol Bailey of Raleigh; stepdaughters, Angie Benson of Pine Level and Elaine Lee of Micro; brother, Alton Nichols of Durham; sisters, Hilda Berry, Jeanette Eakes and Grace Briggs, all of Durham, Frances Akins of Charlotte; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Charles Wood, P.O. Box 690 Pine Level, NC 27568.

B. J. "JACK" OLIVER
BURLINGTON -- Mr. Brodie Jackson "Jack" Oliver, 55, of 2031 South Mebane St., died Wednesday, October 6, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Alamance County to the late Edgar Fitch Oliver and Sadie Hamilton Oliver. He had retired from American Environmental Drilling Services in Aberdeen, NC, and was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 1999 at Lakeview United Church of Christ with the Rev. Reid Dickens and Rev. Fleet Millsap officiating. Burial, Alamance Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Glenn.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Jo Mitchell Oliver of the home; daughter, Jacqueline Oliver of Gibsonville; four sons, Eddie Oliver of Gibsonville, Kim Oliver of Burlington, Shawn Oliver of Burlington, and Scott Oliver of Elon College; four sisters, Vivian Scott of Burlington, Edna Blanchard of Mebane, Ann Suggs of Graham, and Jane Scott of Burlington; seven brothers, Harold Oliver, Johnny Oliver, Gene Oliver, and Forrest Oliver, all of Burlington, Allen Oliver of Oneonta, AL, Bobby Oliver of Mooresville, and Gordon Oliver of Graham; eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6-9 p.m. Saturday night.

MARY LEWIS PEELER
RALEIGH -- Mary Lewis Peeler of Raleigh, 90, died on September 21, 1999 at Glenaire of Cary. She was born on March 25, 1909 in Randolph County.
She was predeceased by her husband, R.J. Peeler, Sr. and her sons, R. James Peeler, Jr. and Thomas Frederick Peeler.
Surviving: daughter-in-law, Shirley Hodge Peeler of Raleigh; grandsons, R. James Peeler, III of New Bern, John Thomas Peeler of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Shelby and James Peeler, both of New Bern, Kendall and Manning Peeler, both of Raleigh.
She was a member of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. During that time, she served as Pastor's Aide, and she was a lifetime member of Women of the Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Montlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to N.C. Hurricane Relief Fund.

GERALDINE PEARCE SANDERS
NEW BERN -- Geraldine Pearce Sanders, 78, of 514 Contentnea Ave., died Thursday at Britthaven of Pamlico.
She was member of the Concord Christian Church. Ms. Sanders retired from Belks Department Store. She was a member of the Vida Grantham Order of the Eastern Star, Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary and member of the Chipper Club.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Scott officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park.
Surviving: son, Robert "Bob" Sanders of Florence, NC; daughters, Dorothy Baker of Vanceboro, Nettie Barnes of New Bern, Debra Wayne of Reelsboro; sisters, Imogene Long of Zebulon, NC, Vivian Boswell of Kenly, NC; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home.

MARY BIZZELL STRICKLAND
SMITHFIELD -- Mary Bizzell Strickland, 84, died Wednesday. Born in Johnston County on September 24, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Edna Robinson Bizzell. She was a longtime member of Sardis Baptist Church and the Baptist Women's Missionary Union. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. John Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are: her husband of 65 years, Woodrow L. Strickland; daughter, Charlotte Flye and her husband, Bobby of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Sara Lynn Davidson and husband, Ron of Mount Juliet, TN, Elizabeth Gray of Murfreesboro, TN; great-granddaughter, Rachel Davidson.
The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma on Friday from 3-5 p.m. and also from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sardis Baptist Church c/o Phyllis Toole, 7756 Brogden Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.

EULALIA MILLS ALDRIDGE
SPRING HOPE -- Eulalia Mills Aldridge, fifth child of the late David and Mattie Chavis Mills of Spring Hope, was born August 23, 1912. She departed this life September 6, 1999. She was married to the late William Jay Aldridge. She is survived by two sisters, Mattie Mills Anderson of Montclair, New Jersey and Macie Mills Bullock of Spring Hope.
Funeral Service on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Spaulding Family Resource Center Auditorium in Spring Hope. Burial, Mills Family Cemetery.
Services by William Toney's Funeral Home, Spring Hope.

CURTIS RAY CREECH
ORIENTAL -- Curtis Ray Creech, 62, of Oriental, formerly of Wilson's Mills, died Monday, Sept. 20, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a graduate of Wilson's Mills High School, served in the US Navy, was owner/operator of Timber Transport and Coastal Container Company. He also owned and operated Neuse Builder's Supply, Ray's Nautical Consignments and Creekside Marina in Oriental. He was the son of Worley Nevelle and Geraldine Godwin Creech, both deceased. He is survived by five brothers and sisters, Edna C. Howard of Fuquay-Varina, Billy J. Creech of Clayton, Linda C. Griswold of Clayton, Roy N. Creech of Selma, Harry W. Creech of Wilson's Mills.
The family will receive friends at Wilson's Mills Baptist Church on Thursday night from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Baptist Church in Oriental.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 10394, Raleigh, NC 27604 or the Home-Delivered Meal Program, Pamlico Senior Services, P.O. Box 184, Alliance, NC 28509.
