Angell G. Beza
Angell G. Beza of Chapel Hill died Aug. 10, 2004 at his home.
He was 69.
He was born in Nashua, N.H., and graduated from Dartmouth College and did graduate work at UNC-Chapel Hill.
In 1962, he began working for Odum Institute for Research in Social Sciences, of which he was associate director when he died.
A memorial service will be conducted Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation Center on the UNC campus.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Bowen Beza; two daughters, Kathy Richardson of Richmond, Va., and Lisa Dyment of Apex; a brother, Sterie Beza of Reston, Va.; and two grandchildren.
The suggests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

James M. Alford
James Monroe "Monk" Alford of Chapel Hill died Aug. 27, 2004 at UNC Hospitals after a brief illness.
He was 88.
He was an automobile mechanic who worked for Harris Conners Chevrolet for 35 years.
He was a veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Bells Baptist Church in Apex.
A visitation at the church will follow the service.
Survivors include a nephew, Samuel Boggs of Chapel Hill.

Charles M. Brockwell
Charles Manley Brockwell of Chapel Hill died Aug. 30, 2004 at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
He was 70.
He was owner and operator of Quality Paint Company for more than 30 years.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Carrboro.
Survivors include his children, Annitta Brockwell Crook, Dianne Hull and Lorrena Brockwell Gilmore of Lexington; two sisters, Dewel Lee Cook of Haw River and Sylvia Williams of Pittsboro; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to a hospice of choice.
Evelyn O. Crowell
Evelyn O. Crowell of Chapel Hill died Aug. 24, 2004.
She was 87.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., and traveled to more than 20 countries and 50 states as part of a military family.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas in Raleigh.
Jeffrey S. McCarley
Jeffrey Scott McCarley died Aug. 23, 2004.
He was 35.
He was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and attended East Carolina University.
He was general manager of Jim Woolard's World Gym in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Holy Family Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill.
Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Judy McCarley of Chapel Hill; a brother, Michael McCarley of Portland, Ore.; and a grandmother, Gracie Bishop of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mary Elizabeth Parham
Mary Elizabeth Davis Parham of Chapel Hill died Aug. 15, 2004 following a long struggle with a progressive neurological illness.
She was a registered nurse in the Burn-Trauma Center at the Medical University of South Carolina and a school library volunteer at St. Paul's School in New Bern.
A memorial service was conducted in New Bern. Burial was at Old Town cemetery in Carrboro.
Survivors include her husband, Allan Parham; a daughter, Holly Wheatly of Greensboro; two sons, Brian Parham of Wilmington and Matthew Parham of New Bern; and a grand-daughter.
Bryan S. Anderson
Bryan Stuart Anderson of Chapel Hill died Sept. 15, 2004.
He was 45.
A visitation will be Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the Healing Place of Wake County, 1251 Goode St., Raleigh.
Interment will be in Arlington, Va.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert Anderson of Carrboro, John Anderson of Jacksonville and Bruce Anderson of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Susan Anderson of Atlanta and Amelia Anderson Wright of Chapel Hill.
Memorial donations may be made to the Healing Place of Wake County.
Curtis Burnett
A funeral service for Curtis Burnett was conducted Monday at Hamlet Chapel CME Church.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ree Burnett; three daughters, Bessie Penny Perry and Roxie Burnett Edwards, both of Pittsboro, and Linda Marie Burnett of Carrboro; two sons, Curtis Junior Burnett and James Jefferson Burnett, both of Pittsboro; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home.
Richard C. Ennis
Richard Caldwell Ennis died Sept. 21, 2004 at UNC Hospitals after a long illness.
He was 71.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and attended Elon College and CREI in Washington, D.C.
He was the co-founder and president of Ennis, Lumsden, Boylston & Associates, a safety and health consulting firm.
In 1993 he founded Chapel Hill-Carrboro Crimestoppers.
The family will receive visitors Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ennis; a son, Richard Ennis Jr.; two daughters, Beth Garrard and Susan Grady; and nine grandchildren.

Betty Nye Gordon
Betty Nye Gordon of Chapel Hill died Sept. 17, 2004 from complications of metastatic breast cancer.
She was 65.
A native of Montclair, N.J., she graduated from the University of Rochester in 1960.
In 1978, she received a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Washington in Seattle.
The same year, she moved to Chapel Hill to do a post doctorate fellowship at the Division for Development and Learning, where she helped children with disabilities cope with and overcome many challenges.
Shortly after, she became a professor in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina, where she conducted research on children's memory for traumatic events.
She worked with Chapel Hill Pediatrics, helping to identify, assess and treat victims of child abuse while setting up a call-in line to help parents prevent, deal with and solve a wide variety of children's issues.
For the last 10 years, she worked with the Diocese of Raleigh, establishing policies and procedures for the protection of children and young people.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Reconciliation.
A brief reception will follow.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Jens; two daughters, Sarah Ederle and Amy Jens; a son, Andrew Gordon; a step-daughter Beth Brissette; two step-sons, Scott Jens, Brian Jens; her mother, Alma Nye of Montclair, N.J.; a sister, Margery Kerr of Harpswell, Maine; two brothers, George Nye of Monterey, Calif., and Tom Nye of Montclair; and eight grandchildren.

James John Cole
James John Cole of Chapel Hill died Sept. 19, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham.
He was 73.

Dottie Ray
Dottie Williams Brewer Ray of Chapel Hill died Sept. 19, 2004.
She was 84.
She was a lifelong resident of Orange County, a member of Bethel Baptist Church and last worked at Ray's Grocery in White Cross.
A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Mustian Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. in Antioch Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Restland Memorial Gardens in Chapel Hill.
Survivors include four sons, Earl L. Brewer, Donnie L. Ray and Tim W. Ray, all of Chapel Hill, and Herbert E. Ray of Asheboro; three daughters, Carolyn R. Rigsbee of Chapel Hill, Deborah Mabe of Mebane and Linda R. Keck of Efland; two brothers, Thomas F. Williams of Knightdale and James C. Williams of Chapel Hill; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wesley H. Wallace
Wesley Herndon Wallace of Chapel Hill died Sept. 14, 2004 at Carol Woods Retirement Center.
He was 92.
He taught broadcasting at UNC-Chapel Hill for 25 years in the department of radio, television and motion pictures.
He was a full professor and chairman of the department.
He received a bachelor's degree from N.C. State College and taught briefly at Louisburg College.
He was a full-time announcer on WPTF Radio in its early days.
During World War II he managed broadcast stations for the U.S. armed forces.
After the war he received a master's degree from UNC and a doctorate from Duke University.
A memorial service will be conducted Sept. 25 at Carol Woods by the Rev. James L. Pike.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Andrews Wallace of Chapel Hill; a daughter, Virginia Sue Wallace of Carrboro; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
