Deborah “Debbie” Parker Buboltz, age 48, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Jan. 25 at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. A Owen Peeler and Rev. Harold Hudson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Raymer Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 26 from 7-8:30 p.m.

Ms. Buboltz was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, co-owner of O.L. Parker and Son Grading Company, a previous employee of Pipe and Equipment Company and a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School Class of 1970.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, O.L. Parker and Eleanor M. Parker of Lasing; her mother, Mary Morgan Parker of Ocean Isle Beach; fiancee, David M. Rhyne of Charlotte; one daughter, Michelle L. Miller and husband, Todd, of Charlotte; one brother, Rodney Parker of Charlotte; one sister, Donna Whitesides and husband, Danny, of Charlotte; one grandson, Artie Cavanaugh of Illinois; four nieces and nephews, Daniel Whitesides, Morgan, Jason and Allyson Parker.

Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.

Samuel Hunter Henderson, age 83, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 23 at Segraves Nursing Care Center in Jefferson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rex Hall and Rev. Ken Blevins. Burial followed in the Corinth cemetery in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

Mr. Henderson was born in Grayson County on March 25, 1917 to Charlie and Daisy Ruth Tucker Henderson. He was an agricultural farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Waive Price Henderson of the home; a son, Sam Henderson of Grassy Creek; two daughters, Nancy Anders of Bermuda Run, and Jackie Pennington of Independence, Va.; a son-in-law, Scott Anders of Bermuda Run; six grandchildren, Anthony Joe Anders of Greensboro, Sterling Anders and Desiree Anders, both of Winston-Salem, Heather Griffis of Asheville, Jacqueline Pennington of Lexington and Kimberly Pennington of Winston-Salem; and a great-grandson, Tyler Sage Griffis of Asheville.

Memorials may be made to Rugby Rescue Squad and/or Fire Department, 1845 Rugby Road, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363.

Francis Miller Jones, age 94, of Walnut Cove, formerly of Ashe County, died Thursday morning, Jan. 25 at Walnut Cove Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Shepherd. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Jones was born in Ashe County, March 9, 1906 to Ben Caudle Miller and Katie Alma Eller Miller. She was a school teacher. Her husband, Lee Scott Jones, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Alma Childress of Walnut Cove; two brothers, Hal Miller of Warrensville and Ben Miller of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Mary Waldrop and Kate Aberts, both of Kernersville; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Wiley Mack Dillard, age 88, of Jefferson, died Sunday evening, Jan. 21 at Ashe Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rick Miller. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family received friends from 12:30-2 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Dillard was born in Ashe County to William Monroe and Virginia Severt Dillard. He was a member of the Orion Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Howell Dillard of the home; two sons, Dean Dillard of Mocksville and Dale Dillard of Randleman; three daughters, Mrs. Kenny “Dorothy” Greene of West Jefferson, Mrs. Dean “Evelyn” Baker of West Jefferson and Mrs. Jim “Angela” Hartley of West Jefferson; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests no flowers, please. Memorials may be made to Ashe Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 8, Jefferson, NC 28640.

George Brown

Died: Jan. 21, 2001

George Leonard Brown, age 49, of Easley, S.C., formerly of Ashe County, husband of Judith Crum Brown, died Sunday, Jan. 21.

Graveside services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The family received friends at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 22 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Mr. Brown was born in Stokes Dale, a son of Martha Sue Brown Hall of Laurel Springs. He was a self-employed home builder and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Crum Brown of the home; his mother, Martha Sue Brown Hall of Laurel Springs; a son, George Leonard Brown Jr.; a daughter, Tabatha Lynne Faircloth Black of Fleetwood; a half-brother, Gary Hall of Jefferson, and Robert Rominger of Walnut Cove; and a sister, Joy Viers of Laurel Springs.

Mr. John Michael Aloia, age 80, of West Jefferson and Inverness, Fla. died Friday, Jan. 26 at his home in Inverness, Fla.

Funeral mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Jefferson with Father Mark Lawler officiating. Entombment followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer in Jefferson.

Mr. Aloia was born April 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Michael and Grace Nicolini Aloia. He was a retired director of operations buyer for a grocery chain.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Creo Aloia; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Cindy Aloia of West Jefferson; five daughters and sons-in-law, Grace & Bill Webb of Marion, Susan & Tom Kitson of Jefferson, Barbara & Sandy Ficara of Inverness, Fla., Pat & Bob Ocuto of Jefferson, Helen & Mike Leserra of West Jefferson; and one baby sister, Dorothy Kelly of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren, Robert Webb, Susan Leserra, Deborah Phillips, Thomas Kitson, Craig Kitson, Michael Aloia, Jennifer Campbell, Michael Ficara, Michelle Ficara, Christine Santiago, Angela Ocuto, Erica Leserra and Ashley Leserra; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Franklin Stierwalt, age 85, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of West Jefferson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Ocala, Fla.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Lewis Poag. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson.

Mr. Stierwalt was born in Washington County, Iowa, on Sept. 27, 1915, to Charles Franklin Stierwalt, Sr. and Ethel Verne Ashby Stierwalt. He was employed by the United States Government, Department of Defense as an industrial property manager for over 30 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Stierwalt was a member and past president of the National Association (Chapter 800) of Retired Federal Employees, NARFE; and the National Railway Historical Society.

He was a member and past president of the Jefferson’s Rotary Club and recognized by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow. In 1972, he became a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and was later president of the Bethany Men’s Club. In 1992, he became an affiliate member of Ocala West United Methodist Church.

Mr. Stierwalt is survived by his wife, Alliene “Vicky” Stierwalt; two sons, Gerald Stierwalt of Charlotte and Harold Stierwalt of Roaring River; one daughter, Carolyn J. Thompson of Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Christopher T. Stierwalt of Charlotte, Victoria, Rebeka and Amanda Thompson of Kansas City, Kan.

Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pearl Oliver Hoosier, age 90, of West Jefferson, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 27 at Segraves Nursing Care Center.

Mrs. Hoosier was remembered at funeral services held March 3 at 11 a.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Darrel Graybeal and Rev. Ken Furches officiated. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hoosier was born in Ashe County on March 24, 1910 to JE Oliver and Vista Graybeal Oliver. She was a homemaker. Her parents and her husband, Milliard Hoosier, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Patrick, of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Joe Oliver; three sisters, Doris Oliver, of West Jefferson, Mae Oliver, of Hickory and Josephine Barlowe, of Downington, Pa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lessie Gilley Walker

Mrs. Lessie Walker, age 91, of West Jefferson, died Saturday, March 3 at her residence.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 5 at 3 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson with Rev. Glenn Woodie and Rev. Roger Carpenter officiating. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson. Pallbearers included Jamie Walker, Blaine Walker, Jamie Wiles, Sean Blevins, Randy Perry, Jason Coldiron and Ronnie Miller. Honorary Pallbearers were Eric and Ricky Miller. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday evening, March 4, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson.

Mrs. Walker was born in Ashe County on March 11, 1909 to the late Roby and Margaret Denny Gilley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin James Walker; one daughter Ruth Coldiron; and two sisters Blanche Stanley and Lou Miller.

She is survived by one son, Gary Blaine Walker of West Jefferson; two brothers, Lester Gilley of Jefferson and Glen Gilley of Elkton, Md.; two sisters, Cora Gilley of West Jefferson and Marie Boyd of Tobaccoville; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Walker, Blaine Walker and Ashley Walker all of West Jefferson, Michelle Wellendorf of Arizona, and Carolyn Blevins, Sue Wiles, Sally Perry, Betty Lou Greer, Lynn Greer and Becky Porter all of Lansing; 17 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church c/o Jerry Gilley, 987 Old Highway 16 Jefferson, NC, 28640.

Mrs. Annie Britt, age 75, of Jefferson died Thursday evening, March 1, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 7 at 10 a.m.. at Lakeland Funeral Home in Lakeland, Fla. Burial followed in the Lakeland Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, March 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Britt was born in Pavo, Ga. on October 13, 1925 to Wiley Thomas and Fannie Belle Thomas. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Britt, of Jefferson; two daughters, Sonya Rogers, of Lansing and Cheryl Dorman of Lakeland, Fla; two granddaughters, one grandson; and one great-grandson.
