Roy Howard Wyatt, age 75 of Crumpler, died Tuesday, May 28 at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bill Ballou and Rev. Lloyd Day officated. A military graveside service followed in the Calloway cemetery. The family received friends Thursday, May 30 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Wyatt was born Feb. 17, 1927 in Ashe County to Dewey and Blanche Shepherd Wyatt. He served his country in the US Army during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, retiring on April 1, 1968 as a Sgt. First Class.
He is survived by two sons, Ray Wyatt of West Jefferson and Gordon Wyatt of Solvange, Ca.; special friend, Mary Gentry of Crumpler; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Gary Arvil Greer, age 55 of Big Laurel Road, Creston, formerly of Vilas, died Sunday morning, May 26 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Carl Wilson and Rev. Zane Tester. military graveside honors andburial followed in the Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens in Boone.
Mr. Greer was born June 2, 1946 in Boone to Vera Alice Hayes Greer and the late Arvil Frank Greer. He was a graduate of Cove Creek High School and a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam era. He was self employed as owner and operator of Chip Tech Company and was a former salesman at Boone Auto Exchange for a number of years. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Vilas.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mimm Greer of the home; two sons, Richard Greer and wife, Denise of Banner Elk and Brandson Greer of Boone; one grandson, Austin Greer and one granddaughter, Ashlyn Greer, both of Banner Elk; two step-daughters, Wanda Eastridge of Boone and Rebecca Cox and husband, Jeffrey of Creston; one step-grandson, Jeffery Eastridge of Creston; his mother, Vera Greer of Vilas; two sisters, Geraldine Bradley and husband, Glenn of Vilas and Alice Stevens and husband, Gary, of Boone; three brothers, Rev. Burl Greer and wife, Linda; Larry Greer and wife, Evelyn, all of Boone and James Greer and wife, Angela of Newton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Gary A. Greer Fund, in care of Alice Stevens, First Union Bank, 958 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Mrs. Annie Louise Goodman, age 88 of Jefferson died Monday, May 27 at the Segraves Care Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Rev. Gary Richardson and Rev. J.C. Norton officiated. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Goodman was born Aug. 6, 1913 in Ashe County to Edward and Ella Shatley Koontz. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Dempsy Goodman.
She is survived by one daughter, Katy Walker and husband, Morris of West Jefferson; one sister, Lena Watson of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Chuck Walker of Asheville and Mitzi Walker of Asheboro.

Mrs. Fay McMillan Gambill, age 91 of Crumpler, died Friday, May 31 at the Ashe Living Center in Jefferson.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Charlie McCoy, Rev. Fred Jenkins, Rev. Wayne Jones and Rev. Bill Ballou officiated. The family received friends from 7 until 9 on Sunday evening at Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Gambill was born on Oct. 31, 1910 to William and Nora Hudler McMillan. She was married to the late Robert James Gambill. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy Reeves Gambill and a son-in-law, Cecil Pugh.
She is survived by two daughters, and one son-in-law, Letha Pugh of Crumpler and Harold and Nancy Adams of Piney Creek; one son and daughter-in-law, Claude and Brenda Gambill of Crumpler; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Edna Lorraine Sheets Tolley, age 82 of Jefferson died Monday, May 27 in Watauga Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 29 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Boone Family Funeral Home by Rev. Gary Shelton and Rev. Jim Hoffman. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Tuesday, May 28 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tolley was born in Ashe County on May 30, 1919 to Carl Higgins Sheets and Nora Gertrude Bear Sheets. She was a homemaker with a servant’s heart who often fixed meals for shut-ins. She was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Edward Tolley; one son, Roy Blaine Tolley; one daughter, Ann Tolley Hoffman; and one brother, Molton Field Sheets.
She is survived by five grandchildren, Pam Ausburn and Shirley James, both of Poteau, Oklahoma, Lisa Reeves of Manassas, Va., Tim Sokolowski of Fayetteville and Blaine Tolley of Lakeland, Florida; nine great-grandchildren, Randy Cox, Katie Cox, Stormy James, Dalton James, Austin James, Lindsey Reeves, Matthew Reeves, Clint Sokolowski and Derek Sokolow-ski; one brother, James Clayton Sheets of Wilkesboro; and one son-in-law, Jim Hoffman of West Jefferson.

James Coffey

Died: May 21, 2002
Mr. James Louis Coffey, age 58 of Andrews, passed away Tuesday, May 21 at his home.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at the Townson Rose Chapel in Andrews. The Rev. Lynda Moore officated. The family received friends after the memorial service until 8 p.m.
Mr. Coffey was a native of Caldwell County and was a retired X-Ray technologist. He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964 and was awarded the certificate of Good Conduct in 1964. He attended Caldwell Community College and received a degree in Radiologic Technology in 1977 and worked at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was listed in the Who’s Who of America and was a member of the MENSA Society. He then attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine and received a certificate in Medical Sonics. In 1978 he accepted a position as Chief of Radiology at Crossnore Hospital where he worked until 1982. He then relocated to Hollywood, Fla., residing there for six years until moving to New Castle, Penn., for a brief period before accepting a position at District Memorial Hospital. He remained there until he became unexpectedly disabled due to a rapid decline in his health in 1996. He continued to reside in Andrews with his family. He was the son of the late Lesson Herman and Lucille Mae Rector Coffey and was preceded in death by two brothers, Edmond Kelly Coffey and Lowell Herman Coffey.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Polding Coffey; four sons, James Leason Coffey and wife, Dina of Jefferson, Brian Coffey and wife, Heather of Aloha, Oregon, Kelly Coffey and wife, Anita of Jefferson and James Michael Coffey serving in the US Army; two daughters, Sarah Coffey of the home and Melissa Coffey and Keith Brisson of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Betsy Coffey Craven and Linda Coffey Godfrey, both of Lenoir; four grandchildren; and a special family friend, David Jordan of the home.

Mrs. Sharon Ann Isenhour Sheets, age 57, of Laurel Springs, died Saturday, July 20 at her residence following an illness in excess of five years.
The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at Peak Creek Church of the Brethren in Laurel Springs by Rev. Lonnie Pruitt. Burial followed in the Peak Creek Church of the Brethren cemetery. The family received friends on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home. The casket remained closed.
Mrs. Sheets was born in Blatimore, Md., on June 12, 1945, one of seven children born to the late Walter Glenn Isenhour and Ethel Janie Bland Isenhour. She was a homemaker and a member of the Peak Creek Church of the Brethren. Prior to her illness she as an avid gardner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: June Isenhour and David Isenhour; and by one sister, Bertha Mae King.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, Bobby Alden Sheets, Sr; one son, Bobby Alden Sheets, Jr. of Laurel Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Cristalla "Chris" and Craig Pennington of Laurel Springs; two brothers, Nathan Isenhour and Jack Isenhour, both of Meherrin, Va.; one sister, Delores Isenhour of Laurel Springs; a very special friend, Gladys Davis of Laurel Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Ashe, PO Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640.

Billy Carroll Cummings, age 66 of West Jefferson, died July 27 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Doran Wyatt and Rev. James Josephs will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Cummings was born on Sept. 1, 1935 in Independence, Va., to Melvin and Mamie Elizabeth Mary Cummings.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Miller Cummings; two sons, Billy Wayne Cummings of Jacksonville and Lester Cummings of Radford, Va.; two daughters, Joyce Myers of Winston-Salem and Geraldine Sookhoo of Nashville, Tenn.; five brothers, Howard Cummings of Dobson, Melvin C. Cummings of Jonesville, John Cummings of Liberty, Joe Cummings of Washington, D.C. and Matthew Cummings of Booneville; two sisters, Emma Lee Josephs of Winston-Salem and Mary Ann Overman of Elkin; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Marsh Bare, age 71 of Jefferson died Friday, July 26 at the Watauga Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m., at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Steve Witherspoon, Rev. Dean Watson, Rev. Keith Elledge, Rev. Dean Shepherd, and Rev. J.D. Walton officiated. Burial followed in the Roans Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family receive friends Saturday, July 27 from 7 until 9 p.m., at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bare was born on April 30, 1931 in Ashe County to Charles and Callie Shatley Marsh. She was a member of the Highland Community Church.
She is survived by one son, Benny Bare of West Jefferson; two daughters, Lynn Kemp of West Jefferson and Rachel Craven of Jefferson; two sisters, Blanche Marsh of Crumpler and Velma Poe of Laurel Springs; two grandchildren, Dale Craven and Nikki Bare, one great-grandchild, Devin Tyler Craven and two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Miranda Roark; and several nieces and nephews.

Verna Aurora Joines Gentry, age 84, of Todd, died Friday morning, July 26 at Watauga Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Baldwin Community Church. Rev. Tim Roten and Rev. Fred Houck officiated. Burial followed in the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gentry was born in Wilkes County on Jan. 16, 1918 to the late Tyre Joines and Minnie Smoot Joines. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Stephen James Gentry on Aug. 31, 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Ambrose Gentry of the home; three sons, Andrew Gentry of Todd, Will Gentry of Brevard and Joe Gentry of Kernersville; five daughters, Betty Lewis of Roanoke, Va., Helen Davis of Greensboro, Margaret Howell of Brevard, Shirley Vannoy of Pfafftown and Carol Sharpe of Todd; three brothers, Johnny Joines, Hillary Joines and Ernest Joines, all of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Mozell Lay of Charlestown, Md.; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Henry Hurley
Newark, Del.
Henry Ford Hurley, Age 79 of Newark, Del., passed away peacefully in his sleep while recovering from hip surgery and battling cancer.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m., at the Doherty Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Hockessin Friends cemetery.
Mr. Hurley enjoyed working with his brothers, Jay and Dale Hurley for many years at Jay Hurleys Autos before retiring. He had previously worked at the Doeskin paper plant. Mr. Hurley was born in Lansing and relocated to Del. at the age of 18. He was the son of Walter Hurley and Pearl Eller. He married Edna Marie Good in January of 1942, They were married for 49 years. He served in the 303rd Battalion in WWII and received a commendation for his bravery in December of 1944. His wife Edna; and daughter, Darlene Marie predeceased him.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ronald and Sandra Hurley, Norma J. Bearvers, Cherri and George Roope, all of Newark, Del.; a sister Danford Black of Newark, Del.; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Wilma Lee Rose age 83 of Elkridge, Md., formerly of Ashe County, died Tuesday, July 23 in Maryland.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Jones officiated. Burial followed in the Healing Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Rose was born on March 9, 1919 in Ashe County to John Morgan and Fannie Perry Baker. Her husband James L. Rose, daughter Irene Brooks, brothers Harold, J.C., and Dean Baker, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, James G. Rose of Little River, S.C.; one daughter, Sandra Justice of Elkridge, Md.; six sisters, Pearl Severt of West Jefferson, Pauline Miller of California, Louise Drachenberg of Texas, Mae Tucker of Kannapolis, and Shirley Phipps of Westminister, Md.; one brother, Bradley Baker of Little River, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Deborah Justice, Mary Rose, Lisa Reid, Christopher and Jimmy Rose, Christina, Charles Lee, and Theresa Bowman; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nora Parsons Lambert, age 94 died Sunday morning, July 28 at Davis Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church with Dr. James Robert Reeves and Dr. Abe Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Nicholson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lambert was born Aug. 9, 1909 in Ashe County to the late Walter Jerome Parsons and Martha M. Smith Parsons. She was the widow of Wilburn Clint Lambert. She was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. Mrs. Parsons was a Nurse Assistant at Davis Hospital. She attended school at McComas, W. Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, John David (J.D.) Lambert, two daughters, who died in infancy, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Paul E. Lambert and Arnold Lambert, both of Statesville; two daughters, Ruby E. Booker of Orlando, Fla., and Faye L. Walker and husband, Dillard of Stony Point; one brother, Larry Parsons of Jefferson; one sister, Nina P. Brown of Taylorsville; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1947, East Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677.

Robert Weaver

Robert James Weaver, age 59 of Lansing, died Monday, Sept. 23 in Ashe Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m, in the Chapel of Boone Family Funeral Home by Rev. Fred Richardson and Brother Ward Sexton. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens cemetery with military rites. The family received friends on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home. Active pall bearers included his co-workers from Ernie Carpenter Construction. Honorary pall bearers included Shannon Weaver, Bryan Weaver and Stanley Williams.
He was born in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 20, 1943, the first of two sons born to James Garfield and Della Ruth Denny Weaver. After completing his education, he served in the US Army from 1963 until 1968 and in the US Army Reserve until 1969. He distinguished himself in the military as a decorated sharpshooter and marksman. On April 1, 1966 he married Sue Williams and they reared four children. He was a member of Silas Creek Baptist Church. Robert always provided for the needs of his family, always putting his children first. He was a truck driver and was currently employed with Ernie Carpenter Construction. He was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed motorcycles and thrilled his grandchildren with many tales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Williams Weaver on November 7, 1993.
He is survived by two sons, Robbie Weaver of Wilkesboro and Curt Weaver, and wife, Tana of Utah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Ricky Isaacs of Lansing and Nancy and Robert Lewis of Creston; a special friend, Pam Cox of Rhonda; one brother: Earl Weaver of Hudson; his maternal grandmother, Rettie Little of Bear, Del.; his five grandchildren, Ricky Weaver of Wilkesboro, Amber Crouse, Richard Isaacs and Kendra Isaacs, all of Lansing and Jordan Lewis of Creston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Eugene Murphy officiated. Burial followed in the Peak Creek cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 until 11 a.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Sexton was born on Dec. 28, 1928 in Crumpler, to Arch and Lefie Loman Sexton.
He is survived by his wife, Alfa Jean Wilmouth Sexton; one brother, Gale Sexton of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Alene Blackburn of Wilkesboro, Faye Pruitt of Laurel Springs and Maye Hoffman of North Wilkesboro; and several nieces and nephews survive.
