Douglas Eugene Parsons, age 67 of Statesville, passed away Thursday morning, July 24 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Parsons was born in Deaborn, Mich. on Nov. 26, 1935. He was the son of the late Gene and Ollie Rushing Parsons. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Parsons. He was educated in the Ashe County school system and also attended Fruitland Baptist College. He served as a minister and teacher for 20 years in Ashe County, and was retired from Hickory Business Furniture. He was a member of Shiloh Tabernacle.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Parsons of the home; three sons, Ricky Parsons and wife, Debi; Tim Parsons and wife, Dawn; and Kevin Parsons and wife, Delilah, all of Statesville; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 at Shiloh Tabernacle.
Nicholson Funeral Home of Statesville was in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie Sturgill Wayne, age 80 of Davidson, died July 31 at Genesis Elder Care of Mooresville.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Rev. Jason Pierce and Rev. Alan Lunsford officiated. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Sheets cemetery in Laurel Springs. The family received friends on Friday, Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wayne was born in Ashe County on April 14, 1923 to the late Clinton and Maggie Black Sturgill. She was retired from Cannon Mills Co. Pillowcase Dept. She attended Friendship Baptist Church in China Grove. She enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher C. Wayne who died July 12, 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Michael L. Wayne and Timothy C. Wayne, both of Davidson; one sister, Lucy Eller of West Jefferson; three grandchildren, Rhonda Shumaker, Jeremy Wayne and John Wayne and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Sheets cemetery Maintenance Fund, 11780 Mooresville Rd., Davidson, NC 28036.

Mrs. Pauline Mildred Williams Whicker, age 86, died Wednesday, July 30 at The Oaks at Forsyth.
Mrs. Whicker was born October 20, 1916 in Ashe County, a daughter of the late Avery and Pearl Faw Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Whicker; five sisters, Ola Jones, Zora Colvant, Mamie Goodman, Myrtle Fletcher, Venia Faw; six brothers, Robert Williams, Gene Williams, Wade Williams, Joe Williams, Don Williams, and W. A. Williams.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Hanna and Grace Nowacki, both of Winston-Salem; a nephew, Jimmy Whicker and wife Mary of Walnut Cove; and several other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Friday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville by Rev. Frank Shumate. Burial was in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home of Kernersville was in charge of the arrangements.

David Harrison Blevins

David Harrison Blevins, age 39 of West Jefferson, died in the Buffalo Community of West Jefferson. Mr. Blevins was born April 8, 1964 in Ashe County to Alisha and Lillie Perry Blevins. He loved to hunt ginseng, deer hunt, and be outdoors.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Dennis Blevins officiated. Burial followed in the Perry cemetery in Lansing. The family received friends Friday, Oct. 3 from 1-2 p.m. at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Blevins is survived by his mother, Lillie Perry Blevins of Jefferson; one brother, Herman Blevins of Boone; six sisters, Juanita Perry and Geneva Miller of Jefferson, Mamie Matkins of Laurel Springs, Loraine Blevins and Sue Blevins of Whitetop, Va., and Christine Arnold of Chesapeake Bay, Va.; special friends Joyce Blevins and Sabrina of Independence, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Ashelawn Memorial Chapel was in charge of these arrangements.

Helen Dillard Winebarger, age 72 of West Jefferson, died Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 12:30-2 p.m. on Friday, prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Winebarger was born in Ashe County on Sunday, Aug. 2, 1931 to Ned Dillard and Nancy Miller Dillard. She worked for IRC as a machine operator.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Winebarger of the home; three sons, Joe Winebarger, Robert Winebarger and David Winebarger, all of West Jefferson; a daughter, Hilda Winebarger of West Jefferson; five sisters, Betty Bledsoe of Fleetwood, Hazel Smith of Harmony, Doris Lackey of Mocksville, Nellie Vannoy of Winston-Salem and Georgie Hartzog of Virginia; three half-sisters, Pansy Wilkins and Evelyn Holt, both of Virginia and Libby Atheim of Ohio; three brothers, Bruce Dillard of Taylorsville, Clarence Dillard of Mocksville and James Dillard of Indiana; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie “Ron” Dale Blevins

Ronnie Dale Blevins, better known as “Ron,” age 47, of Jefferson, died Monday, Sept. 29, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Rev. Bill Ballou. Burial followed in the Baptist Chapel cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Blevins was born in Ashe County on Monday, May 21, 1956 to Calvin Blevins and Grace Burkett Blevins. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Blevins. He was a self-employed owner of Tri-Com Digital in West Jefferson.
He is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Blevins of West Jefferson, Katie Blevins of Warrensville, and Tina Marie of Salem, Va.; his mother, Grace Blevins of Salem, Va.; three brothers, Darrell Blevins of Roanoke, Va., Harold Blevins of Bel Air, Md., and Bryan Blevins of Salem, Va.; three sisters, Wanda Blevins of Salem, Va.; Hazel Schaeffer of Forrest Hill, Md., and Daphene Lambert of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Margaret B. Roland

Margaret B. Roland passed from this life on Saturday, October 4 at Wellmont Hospital.
She was born in Green Valley to Joseph and Lola Payne Barlow. She had lived most of her life in Bristol, Tenn., having devoted 42 years to the love and education of children at Central Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Roland; and brother, James Barlow.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Annabeth and Mark Spivey of Bristol, Tenn.; a much loved granddaughter, Laura Margaret Spivey of Bristol, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law, Quayle and Jo Barlow of Downingtown, Pa.; very special Roland family brother and sisters-in-law, two dear friends, Mildred Salyer and Brenda Dodson and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Thompson and devoted caregivers Kathy Hilliard, Anita Edens, Amanda Mercer and Deborah Stitt.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Mullan officiating. Committal service will follow in Glenwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Spivey, Randy Roland, James C. Barlow, Bill Barlow and Steve McClellan. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m., Monday, at Akard Funeral Home or anytime at the home of Annabeth, 119 Clark Lane, Bristol, TN. Joe Joseph Blevins, age 79 of Lansing, died Thursday, Oct. 2 at his home.
Mr. Blevins was born on May 12, 1924 in Clineville, Va. to Stanley and Lucy Howell Blevins. He was a member of Shelter Baptist Church. He was a kind hearted man who adored children; everyone who visited him had to eat. He loved watching baseball and coon hunting. Mr. Blevins served in the US Army, he was a veteran of World War II.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at Shelter Baptist Church. Rev. Dean Watson, Rev. David Grinnell and Rev. Kenneth Howell officiated. military graveside followed in the Woodie cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 7-9 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Blevins is survived by his wife, Dorothy Harrison Blevins; a son, Charles Floyd Blevins of Lansing; a daughter, Lucille B. Boggs of Jefferson; five brothers, Robert Blevins of West Jefferson, Jack Blevins of Indiana, Thurman Hamby of Fleetwood and Walter and Dean Hamby, both of Delaware; four sisters, Maxie Cahill of Millers Creek, Shirley Watson of Fleetwood, Annie Goodman of West Jefferson and Nola Walls of Jefferson; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lillie Ellen Blackburn Surber, age 83 of Jefferson, died Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Chris Goodman and Rev. Bill Ballou. Graveside services were held Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Surber was born in Wilkes County on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1919 to Andrew Blackburn. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Henry Surber on May 17, 1996; and her daughter, Sylvia Clarissi Surber on Feb. 19, 2003.
She is survived by a son, Charles Andrew Surber of Chazy, NY; a brother, Charles Hughes Blackburn of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Blanche Virginia (Severt) Caruso

Blanche Virginia (Severt) Caruso entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Sept. 20. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis M. Weaver of West Jefferson. She was the beloved mother of Joyce A. Warbis of Woodbridge Va. and Janet S. Kear of West Jefferson. Also survived by one son-in-law George Ruffino; three sisters, Edith Gordon, Mary Blevins, and Pearl Kirby; two brothers, Howard & Avery Severt; four grandchildren, Jacqueline M. Warbis, Lucinda Melchior, Elizabeth Larson and David Kear; three great-grandchildren, Tessa & Deana Melchior, Akaia Larson. And many other Family and friends. Family members and friends will be received for a memorial service at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Woodbridge, Va. on Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m.

Mary Pauline Day Bare, age 75 of Crumpler, died Sunday, May 30 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. David Grinnell, Rev. Jeff Vogler and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bare was born in Ashe County on Thursday, Feb. 14, 1929 to the late Jacob W. Day and to the late Letha Ann Campbell Day. She was married on June 21, 1947 to Foy D. Bare. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and served on the Flower Committee and sang in the Church Choir. She worked for Sara Lee Knit Products for 33 years, where she worked as a supervisor for Auto Sleeve Department. She was a kind and loving mother and a dear friend, which will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Foy D. Bare of the home; one son, Dennis Bare of Crumpler; a daughter, Dianne Ballou of Jefferson; a brother, Chester Day of Jefferson; a sister, Hazel Rhodes of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Kimberly Miller and Bevin Ballou; one great-grandchild, Trenton Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

William Kenneth "Bill" Gobble, age 77 of Crumpler, died Friday, June 4 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Gobble was born on March 23, 1927 in Rowan County to Willie Oscar and Mary Mahaley Gobble. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, serving six years. He served 24 years in the US Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Gobble was a member of the American Legion, Lansing, NC Post. He and his wife owned and operated the Historic Healing Springs, and had owned many Real Estate Instruction businesses.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Rev. J.C. Norton, A.B. Hurt Jr. and James Gobul officiated. military committal service followed at the Ashelawn Mausoleum of Prayer. The family received friends Monday, June 7 from 1-2 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Gobble is survived by his wife, Patricia B. Gobble; a son, James Kenneth Gobul of Boston, Mass.; a daughter, Mary Stuckey of Louisiana; two half-brothers, James Gobble of Virginia and Norman Gobble of Tennessee; two half-sisters, Sally Chillcott and Betty Lou Rice, both of Salisbury; a stepbrother, Norman Bradshaw of Florida; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon Jasper Lewis, age 89 of Todd, died Tuesday, June 1 at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Gentry, Rev. Wayne Osborne and Rev. Kershaw Getty officiated. A military graveside followed in the Bethany cemetery. The family received friends Thursday, June 3 from 7-9 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Lewis was born on Nov. 21, 1914 in West Jefferson to James and Marcia Trivette Lewis. He served in the United States Navy, serving in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Gwyn Hopkins Lewis; two sons, Larry G. Lewis of Warrensville and Lanny Lewis of West Jefferson; one daughter, Joyce Watson of Cary; one sister, Mary Belle McClanahan of Manassas, Va.; three grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Bessie Samonie Mahaffey Lillard, age 90 of Creston, died Thursday evening, June 3 at Ashe Living Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bill Miller, Rev. Reeves Jones and Rev. Ambrose Jones officiated. Burial followed in the Clint Gilley cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 5 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lillard was born in Ashe County on Monday, Nov. 17, 1913 to the late James Carl Mahaffey and the late Lillie Richardson Mahaffey. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bradley Lillard.
She is survived by three daughters, Emma Day and husband, Russell of Jefferson, Viola Jones of Creston and Mary Logan of Kentucky; a brother, George Mahaffey of Warrensville; eight grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren and six greatgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys Lessie Poe, age 82 of North Wilkesboro, formerly of Laurel Springs, died Thursday, June 3 at the Wilkes Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Poe was born on June 12, 1921 in Laurel Springs to Clemmons and Alpha Miller Lowman.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dean Shepherd officiated. Burial followed in the Peak Creek cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, June 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Poe is survived by a brother, Lloyd Lowman of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Lille Childress of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sipos was born in Satu-Mare, Romania on Tuesday, June 9, 1964 to Josif Atila Sipos and Veronica Sipos. He worked as a painter in Ashe County.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Dale Sipos of the home; four sons, David Dale Sipos, Joseph Atila Dale Sipos, Junstin Paul Dale Sipos and Daniel James Dale Sipos, all of West Jefferson; his father, Josif Atila Sipos. Sr. of Romania; and one grandson, Joseph Atila Dale Ian.
