Ruby May Young, age 70 of West Jefferson, died Thursday, February 3, at her home. Mrs. Young was born June 25, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Paul and Ossie May. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Caldwell, a son, Ted Eller and a sister Martha Eller.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m., Sunday, February 6, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tommy McClure officiated. The family received friends from 6 till 8 p.m. prior to the service. Burial was held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 7 in the Helton cemetery.
Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter, Pat Sullivan of Jefferson; one son, Alan Eller of Lansing; four sisters, Grace Baldwin of Lansing, Mary Buchanon, Ruth Taylor and Hazel Surber all of White Top; two brothers, Lee and Donnie May both of Lansing; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Frankie Isabel Faw Anderson

Mrs. Frankie Isabel Faw Anderson, age 93, of West Jefferson, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ken Morris. Burial followed in the West Jefferson City cemetery.
The family received friends from 7:00-9:00 pm on Friday, February 25, 2005 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Ashe County on Friday, April 28, 1911 to the late Raynor Mack Faw and to the late Evaline Faw. She was a Restaurant Cook. She was also a member at the First Baptist Church of West Jefferson.
She is survived by a son, Fritz Anderson, of Creston; four daughters, Carol Miller, of West Jefferson, Eva Lynch, of Alexandra, VA, Freda Taylor, of West Jefferson and Nina Clifton, of Jefferson; twelve grandchildren; twelve greatgrandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; two step greatgrandchildren; two step great, great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Sara Kathryn Little Davis, age 62, of West Jefferson, died Tuesday night, February 22, 2005 at her residence.
A memorial service was held on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of West Jefferson by Rev. Ken Morris.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis was born in Ashe County on Sunday, July 12, 1942 to the late Quinten Roosvelt Little and to the late Mabel McMillian Little. She was a retired school teacher. She taught the 5 th grade at Jefferson Elementary School.
She is survived by a son, Matthew Davis, and his wife, Joy, of Charlotte; a daughter, Beth Shelton and her husband, Tony, of Jefferson; a brother, Richard Little and his wife, Nyoka, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Parker Shelton, Molly Shelton, Evan Davis and Sara Davis; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, PO Box 180, West Jefferson, NC 28694 or to Hospice of Ashe, Po Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640.

Junior Ray Dillard, age 73 of Jefferson, died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at his home.
Mr. Dillard was born November 7, 1931 in Ashe County to the late George and Callie Mae Bare Dillard.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Billy Joe Blevins, Elder James McNeill and Rev. Clayton Handy officiated. Burial followed in the Dillard cemetery. The family received friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 25 at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife, Viola Johnson Dillard; three sons, Gary Ray Dillard of North Wilkesboro, Bobby Dean Dillard of West Jefferson and Kenneth James Dillard of the home; two daughters, Ruby Perdue of McGrady, NC and Nancy Dillard of Granite Falls, NC; four isters, Pearl Church and Blanche Spears, both of North Wilkesboro, Opal Phillips of Millers Creek, and Evon Lowder of Mississippi; 18 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

February 6, 1941 - February 23, 2005
Mr. James Edward Eller better known as "Bob" age 64 of West Jefferson, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005.
Mr. Eller was born in Ashe County on Thursday, February 6, 1941 to the late Todd Eller and Reba Eastridge Barnes. He worked in assembly for General Motors.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Edwards and Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Entombment followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Sunday one hour prior to the funeral service at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Eller is survived by: his wife, Ruth Miller Eller, one son, James Edward Eller, Jr. of Charlotte, two daughters, Debbie Eller Jones of Jefferson, Angela Eller Summers of North Wilkesboro, his mother Reba Barnes of Hickory, one brother, Kenneth Barnes of Southern Pines, four grandchildren also survive.

January 26, 1945 - February 20, 2005
Martha Jane Hopson, age 60, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2005, at her home in Crumpler.
She born January 26, 1945 in McClellatown, Pa., to Walter and Phyllis Coffeman McArdle.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Jimmy C. Hopson of the home; a son and his spouse, Kevin C. and Ginger Hopson of Crumpler; three daughters and their spouses, Kimberly and Tim Taylor of Charlotte, Jamie and Keith Shepherd of Warrensville and Kelly Sue Hopson of Asheville; her mother, Phyllis Coffeman of McClellatown, Pa.; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, Va. Rev. Jim Greer and Rev. Ray Mullins officiated. Burial followed in Grace Free Will Baptist Church cemetery in Independence.

Larry Laney Little

Mr. Larry Laney Little, age 86, of Warrensville, died Tuesday afternoon, February 22, 2005 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgill’s Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Warner Eller. Burial followed in the Lewis Family cemetery in Lansing with military rites.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Little was born in Ashe County on Monday, July 22, 1918 to the late John Marsh Little and the late Lucynthia Rachel Blevins Little. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He married Grace Marie Howell on September 7, 1946. He retired from United Chemi-Con.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Howell Little, of the home; two sons, Richard Little and wife, Ruby, of Lansing and Jerry Little and wife, Linda, of Warrensville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survives.
The family requests no food please.

Mr. Jerry Houck Mikeal, age 59, of Clinton, TN, died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at F. Sanders Parkwest.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Mill Creek cemetery with military rites.
The family received friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. His most recent positions were the Jacobs Engineering and Management Solutions assigned to Alstom. He was vice president and division manager for SAIC’s Engineering and Environmental Group; Manager for Project Controls, IT Corporation; Senior Consultant, Decision Planning Corp. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had a BS Degree from North Carolina State University and a MS Degree from the US Air Force Institute.
He was preceded in death by his father, E.R. Mikeal.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Mikeal, of Clinton; two daughters, Tina Adkins and husband, David, of Raleigh and Angie Yonce and husband, Josh, of Oak Ridge; a son, Paul Mikeal and wife, Marlo, of Charlotte; his mother, Lucille Mikeal, of Todd; two grandchildren also survive.

Gloria Berniece Osborne, better known as "Byrd", age 52, of Garvey Bridge Road, Crumpler, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 27, 2005, 4:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. The Rev. David Blackburn officiated. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel .
Mrs. Osborne was born in Ashe County, January 10, 1953. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Wayne Testerman and a brother, Jesse Dean Testerman.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Steve Osborne of Crumpler; two sons, Robert Dean Cox and Jesse Dane Cox, both of Crumpler; two daughters, Lisa Tryon of Pennsylvania and Jennifer Callahan of High Point; her mother and stepfather, Mack and Lucy McGhee of Boone; a sister, Linda Brown of Cary, NC; a stepsister, Glenda Eggers of Boone; two stepbrothers,James McGhee of Fredericksburg, Va., and Jerry McGhee of Fayetteville, NC; four grandchildren; and one niece.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Mr. Dwight Daniel Phillips, age 47, of West Jefferson, died Tuesday morning, February 22, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rob Brooks. Burial followed in the Burkett Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family received friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Phillips was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, July 9, 1957 to Carl Phillips and Helen Sheets Phillips. He worked as a Dispatcher at Chandler Concrete.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Royal Phillips, of the home; a son, Justin Phillips, of the home; his parents, Carl and Helen Phillips, of West Jefferson; a brother, Darrell Phillips, of West Jefferson; three sisters, Sandy Blevins, of Crumpler, Kathy Phillips, of Boone and Twylia Smith, of West Jefferson; several nieces also survive.

Mr. Shatley was born in Ashe County, NC on September 12, 1915 to Sherman and Laura Swift Shatley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Rev. Ken Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Jefferson cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Shatley is survived by his wife, Myrtle Dancy Shatley; two sons, Ray Shatley of Mtn. City, Tenn., and J. R. Shatley of Florida; three daughters, Lena Ruth Roten of West Jefferson, JoAnn Houck of Todd and Elizabeth Tomlinson of Holiday, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Kathy Elliott of West Jefferson, and Carol Sullins of Warrensville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jewel Iona Jones Ward, age 83, of Jefferson, died Tuesday morning, February 22, 2005 at Segraves Nursing Care Center in Jefferson.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Gordon Rawls and Rev. Bill Burchette.. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Ward was born in Ashe County on Saturday, August 21, 1920 to the late Joseph Lloyd Jones and Bertha Savannah Reedy. She worked as an Assembly Worker for Bendix Corp. in Cockeysville, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hamilton Ward.
She is survived by two brothers, Kermit Jones, of Jefferson and Wayne Jones, of Crossville, TN; two sisters, Pauline (Polly) Osborne, of West Jefferson and Winnie Thomas of Zionville, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mast was born in Lancaster, Pa. on Tuesday, August 8, 1911 to the late David Lapp and to the late Annie Mary Lapp. She was a homemaker. She was married to Rev. Paul Emanuel Mast for 72 years. She was a member of the Meadowview Mennonite Church.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Paul Emanuel Mast, of the home; two sons, Glenn Mast and wife, Margaret, of Lansing and Ross Mast and wife, Polly, of Lansing; three daughters, Anna Mary Shepherd and husband, Rev. Larry Shepherd, of Lansing, Jean Hess and husband, Rev. Dan Hess, of Lansing and Leona Peters and husband, Jessie, of Manheim, Pa.; a brother, Elmer Lapp, of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Fern Bowman, of Virginia and Martha Stoltzfus, of Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren, Dwight Shepherd, Derek Shepherd, Jennifer Privette, Chris Mast, Richard Mast, Joy Gullman, Rachel Sexton, Thad Hess, Keith Peters, David Peters, Dean Peters, Kent Peters, Kyle Shepherd and Anissa Shepherd; thirty-one greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survives.

Mrs. Miller was born in Ashe County, January 9, 1918, to Winfield and Jane Marsh Shatley.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Lonnie Jones and the Rev. Glenn Woodie officiated. Burial was in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Miller is survived by: a daughter, Lorene Miller of Jefferson; two sisters, Brucie Miller of Jefferson and Maude Little of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Melba Watson Owens

January 2, 1938 - March 27, 2005
Mrs. Melba Watson Owens of 123 Old Course Drive, Advance, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 2, 1938 in Ashe County to the late Grady Watson Sr. and Vetra Blackburn Watson. Melba was employed in the Forsyth County Tax Collector’s Office for over 35 years and retired as Chief Deputy Tax Collector. She was a member of Credit Professional and was a past president. She was a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church. For many years she was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and a very active member of the United Methodist Women of that church. Melba was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was known for her loving, caring and giving spirit not only to her family but neighbors, friends and co-workers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bennis Watson and a sister, Geraldine Owens. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Larry Don Owens of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Rev. Mike Shelton and their children, Meredith, Jeremy and Kierney, of Summerville, SC; a special niece and her husband, Marsha and Terry Story and their daughter, Morgan of Blowing Rock; three brothers, Kenneth Watson and wife, Ruby, of Clemmons, Grady Watson Jr. and wife, Mabel, of Advance, and Don Watson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Cole, Rev. Catherine Vlastakis and Rev. Ken Eller officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 829, Clemmons, NC 27102
