Mr. Eric Edward Johnson age 51, of Morganton, NC died on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC. Mr. Johnson was born on July 28, 1959 in Watauga County, NC to Lloyd and Glenna Howell Johnson. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by Son, David Johnson.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Lea, Rev. Ken Morris. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Johnson is survived by: his parents, Lloyd and Glenna Howell Johnson, 2 Sons - Christopher Johnson of MD & Zachary Johnson of MD, 3 Brothers - Charles Johnson of PA, Mitchell Johnson of Crumpler, NC & Geoffrey Johnson of Dallas, TX; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family prefers that memorials may be made to National Alliance on Mental Illness, 3803 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite.100, Arlington, VA 22203.

Joseph Holman
Mr. Joseph "Joe" Rufus Holman age 77, of West Jefferson, NC died on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Holman was born on July 19, 1933 in Ashe County, NC to James and Roseallie Roten Holman. Mr. Holman was preceded in death by Brothers: Ralph, Kelly & Vernon Holman and sister, Anna Petty. He was a caring husband to Dottie for 47 years. He loved attending Bald Mountain Baptist Church. He loved reading western books and was involved in a polio support group.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 12:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. J. D. Walton & Bro. Steven Clark. Burial will follow in J.G. Hodgson cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Holman is survived by: his wife, Dottie Holman and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy Miller
Mrs. Nancy Miller age 66, of Jefferson, NC died on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Miller was born on April 3, 1944 in Ashe, NC to the late Estell & Georgia Bare. In addition to her parents Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by husband: Swader James Miller, son: Spencer Carson Miller, infant daughter: Donna, sister: Sue Baker and brother: Sonny Bare.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Russell Sheets and ,Rev. Lawrence Goodman. Burial will follow in the George Miller cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Miller is survived by:

3 Sons: Swader Miller of West Jefferson, NC, James Bare of Glendale Springs, NC & Billy Miller of Mooresville, NC

3 Sisters: Elizabeth Hall of Laurel Springs, NC, Wanda Spangler of Jefferson, NC & Wilma Flanagan of Jefferson, NC

6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

David Lester Hart
Mr. David Lester Hampton Hart age 61, of Lansing, NC died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his home. Mr. Hart was born on October 23, 1949 in Ashe County, NC to Lester Paul and Blannie Darnell Hart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: grandfather: Wade Hampton Darnell, aunt: Lillian "Aunt Em" Darnell and paternal grandparents: Rev. Wells & Minnie Graham Hart. An accomplished guitarist and singer, loved gospel music and performing with family and friends at Creston Superette. The family would like to thank those friends and the Wayne and Blanche Miller family who cherished David. A graduate of Northwest Ashe High School where he was a sports standout: football, basketball, & baseball. He earned a BS Degree in Physical Education and certification in science from Gardner-Webb University where he also played football. He taught science and coached football at Kings Mountain Junior High before his retirement. He returned to Ashe County where he worked for the Jefferson Post and later operated a mowing service. He was the caretaker of several cemeteries including the Hart-Ham cemetery. Mr. Hart was a good neighbor, had a loving heart, and helped many less fortunate.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Tuckerdale Baptist Church by Rev. Honorable Steve Goss & Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Hart-Ham cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service.

Mr. Hart is survived by:

1 Son - Matthew Hart of Kings Mountain, NC

2 Sisters - Nancy Clay and husband Allen of Lenoir, NC & Betsy Wells and husband Steve of Kings Mountain, NC

3 Aunts - Dorothy Hofmeier of Baltimore, MD, Adalene Gambill of West Jefferson, NC & Christine Hart of Asheville, NC

Mr. Hart is also survived by his former wife Susan Bumgardner Hart of Kings Mountain

Several nieces, nephews and cousins

Dennis Seagle
Dennis George Seagle, 63, died suddenly as the result of an accident on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010.
Born in Burke County on April 21, 1947, he was the son of the late George W. Seagle and Clara P. Seagle of Drexel, NC.
Dennis was a resident of Charlotte, NC for 30 years, working in production management with several companies in the greater Charlotte region and had recently retired to Ashe County.
He attended Jefferson United Methodist Church.
Dennis served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from Nov 1971 to July 1974.
He was a self-taught wood craftsman and loved beach music, shag dancing, and tailgating at Panther football games.
A devoted husband and father, Dennis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth, of Lansing, NC, his daughter, Erin Thompson, and her husband, Joel, of West Jefferson, NC, a brother, Yates Seagle of Valdese, NC, a brother-in-law, Bob Cooke and wife Brenda, of Raleigh, NC, and his mother-in-law, Thelma Cooke, who had recently joined him and his wife in Lansing.
He is also survived by his special canine friends, Beau and Laci.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Seagle, of Valdese, NC.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, January 2nd, at 3pm, Ashelawn Memorial Chapel (3470 U.S. Highway 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640), with family visitation from 1:30 to 3pm prior to the service.

Avanell Ilene Miller
Mrs. Avanell Ilene Miller age 71, of West Jefferson, NC died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Miller was born October 9, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Edward Doyle and Betty Conner Howell. In addition to her parents Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Charles Miller and Michael Patrick, brother: James Howell and sisters: Janalene & Jeaneva Johnson. She was a member of Bald Mtn. Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins, Rev. J. D. Walton, Rev. Lawrence Goodman, Rev. Jimmy Williams and Joe Howell. Burial will follow in Bald Mountain Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Miller is survived by:

2 Sons - Wayne Howell and wife Maria of Pulear, NC & Greg Miller and wife Shirley of Crumpler, NC

2 Daughters - Shelby Patrick and husband Lester of Pulear, NC & Sarah Dillard and husband Joe of West Jefferson, NC

4 Brothers - Oren Howell of Piney Creek, NC, Steve Howell of Wilkesboro, NC , Rex Howell of West Jefferson, NC & Joe Howell of China Grove

4 Sisters - Patricia Reynolds of Concord, NC, Ruth Shepherd & Shirley Campbell both of Kannapolis, NC, & Katherine Jennings of Millers Creek, NC

17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Ulysses Glenn Elliott
Mr. Ulysses Glenn "Hue" Elliott age 86, of Fleetwood, NC died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Elliott was born June 15, 1924 in Ashe County, NC to Harrison and Nealie Lewis Elliott. In addition to his parents Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by sister, Lillie Ashley. Mr. Elliott was a member of Big Flatts Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a charter member of Fleetwood Fire Dept. He loved to fish and mow at the church when he was able. He worked for the Navy during WWII.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Big Flatts Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Cox & Rev. Garry Watson. Burial will follow in Big Flatts Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.

2 Sons: Tom Elliott of Fleetwood, NC & Danny Elliott of Spruce Pine, NC

Carmen Wagner Gambill
Mrs. Carmen Gambill age 94, of Crumpler, NC died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Segraves Care Center in Jefferson, NC. Mrs. Gambill was born December 18, 1915 in Pike County, KY to the late George and Minnie Wiles Wagner. In addition to her parents Mrs. Gambill was preceded in death by her husband, Dayne Gambill and brother, Bradford Wagner.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Gambill is survived by:

Mr. Ricky Dale Wood age 55, of West Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at his home. Mr. Wood was born on May 16, 1955 in Ashe County to Ronder and Wilma Howell Wood.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Baldwin Community Church by Rev. Randy Peters & Rev. Bill Manly. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Ortha Irene Trivett Taylor age 81, of Lansing, NC died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at her residence in Lansing, NC. Mrs. Taylor was born on June 12, 1929 in Smyth County, VA to William L. and Ollie M. Lefler Trivett. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents and several brother and sisters. She was a member of Azen Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 12:00 PM at the Azen Baptist Church by Rev. David Lyall and Rev. Johnny Osborne. Burial will follow in Taylor Family cemetery in Lansing. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home.
