Sally Mullis Miller
Mrs. Sally Marie Mullis Miller, age 81, of Jefferson, NC, the Bristol Community, died Friday evening, July 30 2010 at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson.
Mrs. Miller was born on July 17, 1929 in the Jefferson Community to Charlie and Lura May Mullis. She was married to Robert Miller. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two children: Buster Miller and Cindy M. Webb. She is survived by two sons: L. J. “Buddy” Miller and wife Phyllis of Jefferson, and Jeffrey Miller of the home, one daughter, Nancy Clark and husband Donald of Radford, Virginia, three grandchildren: Joey Parsons, Anthony Miller, and Jessica Parker; three great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; one sister, Nell Testerman of Jefferson, several nieces and nephews..
Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, August 2, 2010, 2:00 PM at the Badger Chapel by the Rev. Billy Joe Blevins. Burial will follow in the Jefferson City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the services on Monday.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association c/o June Weaver PO Box 791 Jefferson, NC 28640, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arthur Phillips
Mr. Arthur Phillips, age 86 of Laurel Springs, NC passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, July 27, 2010 after a long illness. He was born in Barry, Wales to the late Winifred and Arthur Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his 1st wife, Evelyn Phillips, brother, Reginald Phillips and sister, Joan Mullen.
Mr. Phillips served in the US Navy aboard the SS Boxer during WWII. He was owner of Phillips Pool Company in Vero Beach, FL prior to his retirement and moving to his beloved mountains. He was a member of the Sparta Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. He was a member of the Vero Beach, FL Elks Lodge and the Masonic Doric Lodge of Ft. Lauderdale for 50 years.
Memorial services and a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Sparta Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service.

Robert Harris
Mr. Robert Clifford Harris, age 88 of Fleetwood, NC died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Harris was born April 3, 1922 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Henry and Jessie Hindes Harris. Mr. Harris served in US Marine Corp. during WWII. He attended Jefferson United Methodist Church. Mr. Harris was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He also loved golf and bowling. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Harris.
A gathering or remembrance will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel.

William Johnny Lyall
Mr. William Johnny Lyall, age 51 of Jefferson, NC died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab. Center. Mr. Lyall was born July 21, 1958 in Ashe County to William and Louise Miller Lyall. He was preceded in death by his father.

Aster Stike
Mr. Aster Jacob Stike, age 83 of Lansing, NC, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Segraves Care Center. Mr. Stike was born May 14, 1927 in Ashe County to the late Luther and Effie Neese Stike. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers; Robert, Edger and Hester Stike. He was a member of Greens Chapel Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Russell Sheets. Burial will follow in the Howell-Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Thomas McCoy
Mr. Thomas McCoy age 45 of Creston died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his home. Mr. McCoy was born in Lynchburg, VA on October 9, 1964 to the late John Thomas and Margaret Osborne McCoy. He loved to fish, hunt, do crafts and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a member of the Big Laurel Mennonite Church. He was a loving son, brother and a friend to all.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Big Laurel Mennonite Church Rev. Kirby Herman, Minister David Lyalls and Rev. Darrell Graybeal. Burial will follow in the McCoy Family cemetery.The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm prior to the service at the church.
Mr. McCoy is survived by, his mother: Margaret Osborne McCoy of Creston, two bothers: John McCoy and wife Barbara of Creston, Bill Osborne of Yadkin, several aunts and uncles also survive.

Shani Marie Dishman
Miss Shani Marie Dishman age 16 of Crumpler died Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Shani was born on February 25, 1994 to Barry and Scarlet Johnson Dishman. She loved to go shopping, riding her four wheeler, taking pictures and spending time with her puppy dog. Most of all she enjoyed being around her friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at 2pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lawrence Goodman and Minister David Lyalls. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home.

Robert Gwyn Taylor
Mr. Robert Gwyn Taylor age 82 of West Jefferson died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. Mr. Taylor was born in Ashe County on July 21, 1927 to the late Robert Bartlett and Sessie Hurley Taylor. He was a plumber and electrician. After his retirement he worked with ADAP in Lansing. He loved to camp, fish, travel and being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. Mr. Taylor was a veteran who served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church.
Funeral services will ne held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2:00pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Calloway. cemetery
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00pm Friday, July 2, 2010 prior to the services at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor is survived by, his wife Freda Anderson Taylor, three sons, Ronald Wilson Taylor of Seattle, Washington, Robert Wayne Taylor of Crumpler, Richard Gwyn Taylor of West Jefferson, one daughter, Annette McNeill of Charlotte, two brothers, Jack Taylor of Jefferson and Ed Taylor of West Jefferson, 5 grandchildren, Eric Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Tyler McNeill, Marshall McNeill, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Paul Martin Hardy, Jr.
Jay Hardy (Paul M. Hardy, Jr.), age 43, of Warrensville passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, June 21, 2010.
Jay was born on October 31, 1966 in Wilmington, DE. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, hiking and ginseng hunting. He loved NFL and college football, and was the #1 fan of the North Carolina Panthers. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Tina M. Hardy of Warrensville. NC; mother, Sallie (Poe) Edwards and husband, Wilson of Elkton, MD; father, Paul M. Hardy, Sr. and wife Freda of Jefferson, NC; son, Casey D. Hardy of Elkton, MD; daughter, Kayla R. Hardy of Elkton, MD; sisters, Charity D. Hardy of Elkton, MD, Cindy Pardue of Wilkesboro; nieces, Emily Hardy and Tiffany Treadway; nephew, Jacob Treadway; Aunts, Uncles; loving cousins and many special friends including Kaleb Jones, Kevin Gates, Stefanie Tabor.

Cynthia Josephine Miller Webb, better known as Cindy, age 59 of Crumpler, NC died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Ms. Webb was born September 20, 1950 in Ashe County to Robert and Sally Mullis Miller. She was preceded in death by her father.
