Mrs. Genalea Ball Davis, age 76 of Creston, NC died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Davis was born December 25, 1933 in Forsyth County to the late John and Fannie Ball. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Giles Ball. She was a member of Baptist Chapel Baptist Church. She retired from Sprauge Electric after 30 years of service.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 30, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Spencer Roark. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 PM Thursday, April 29th at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davis is survived by:

Jerold Turner
Mr. Jerold Herbert Turner, age 78 of Lansing, NC died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home. Mr. Turner was born July 29, 1931 in Ashe County to the late Gordon and Minnie Johnson Turner. Mr. Turner retired from Thomasville Furniture after 39 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, boating and loved to joke with people. The Turner’s would have celebrated their 60th year of marriage on July 3rd.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Phoenix Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Dollar and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in the Eller cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service

Jack Oliver
Mr. Jackie Oliver better known as Jack, age 70 of Lansing, NC died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his home. Mr. Oliver was born September 17, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Roscoe and Ruth Stamper Oliver. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. Mr. Oliver was a veteran of the Vietname War serving in the US Army.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Howell Hill cemetery by Rev. Charlie McCoy.

Derik Hartsoe
Mr. Derik Milton Quincy Hartsoe age 28 of Crumpler, NC died Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Mr. Hartsoe was born July 28, 1981 to Tommy and Pam Ritchey Hartsoe. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandmother, Margaret Bare Ritchey, paternal grandparents, A. Q. Hartsoe and Virginia Hartsoe Roten. Derik loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tim Roten. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 prior to the service.

Lessie Faye Bowers Trivett
Mrs. Lessie Faye Bowers Trivett age 95, died on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, VA. Mrs. Trivett was born on June 21, 1914 in Silas Creek, NC to the late George and Victoria Barker Bowers. She raised eight children and lived in Konnarock, VA for 77 years. Mrs. Trivett was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Ora June Brewer, Nancy Surber, son, Donald Trivett. Mrs. Trivett was of the Baptist Faith; her hobbies included crafting, gardening, bluegrass music and traveling.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel, 300 Main Street, West Jefferson, NC. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday April 20, 2010 at 2:00pm in the Howell Hill cemetery in Lansing, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Trivett is survived by: daughters - Patsy S. Clifford of Trout Dale, VA, Muriel Dolinger of Fairfax, VA, Carolyn Felts of Alexandria, VA, Delores Kiser of Ocala, FL, son - Ronald Trivett of Independence, VA, also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association National Office 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.

Austin Spencer
Mr. Austin Spencer, age 88 of Lansing, NC died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Mr. Spencer was born May 27, 1921 in Ashe County to the late Jason and Ida Weiss Spencer. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hart Spencer and all his brothers and sisters. He was a member of Sturgills Baptist Church. Mr. Spencer was a US Army veteran who served in the pacific theater during WWII. He retired from Sprague Electric.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in the Spencer cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Spencer is survived by:

1 daughter: Shirley Thompson and husband Ronnie of West Jefferson

Chester Arthur Day
Mr. Chester Day, age 87 of Jefferson, NC died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Day was born March 5, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Jacob and Letha Campbell Day. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Fannie Faye Bare Day and all his brothers and sisters. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Day fought in the Battle of Bulge during WWII and was awarded seven major battle stars.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Reeves Jones. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Day is survived by:

2 daughters: Betty Parsons of Statesville & Lucy Mabe of Laurel Springs

Casimira Rodriguez Malave
Casimira Rodriquez Malave, 84, of West Jefferson, formerly of Puerto Rico died on Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC.

Private Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the West Jefferson City cemetery.

Mrs. Malave was born March 4, 1926 to Rosendo and Emilia Malave Rodriquez in Puerto Rico. She was the eldest child of eight siblings. She was a strong Christian with a deep-seated faith in God. In her professional career she was a skilled seamstress, cook, cosmetologist and teacher. She was an accomplished business woman operating several fashion boutiques, beauty salons and beauty academies. In more recent years she traveled working as a private CNA in America. She lived in Europe for a short time. She will be remembered for the joy and love she expressed throughout her life.

Mrs. Malave is survived by two daughters: Alma Hurd and husband, Don, of Florida and Ruth Smith of West Jefferson; five grandsons: Urayoan Castellano of Puerto Rico, Ernesto Castellano of Puerto Rico, Jason Laudig of Florida, Tim Smith and Wife Sara of Charlotte, and Tom Smith of Charlotte, one brother: Dionisio Rodriquez of Florida, four sisters: Victoria Rodriquez of Puerto Rico, Maria Longoria of Michigan, Domitila Malave of Florida, and Carmen Lopez of Florida. Several nieces, nephews as well as a host of friends also survive.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons: Eddy and Francisco Luis Castellano, one grandson: Bryan Laudig; and two brothers; Rosael and Luis Rodriquez.

Badger Funeral Home in West Jefferson is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Nell Brooks
Miss Mary Nell Brooks, age 71 of West Jefferson, NC died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Miss Brooks was born February 14, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Fieldon and Jennie Roark Brooks. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Ann Weaver. She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church. Miss Brooks volunteered at the Arts Council. She loved to read and make canopies.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jim Daws and Pastor Tim Hamm. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 8th at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

Miss Brooks is survived by:

Three brothers: Thomas Raymond Brooks and wife Imogene of FL, David Ralph Brooks and wife Linda of Lansing & Kenneth Brooks and wife Deloris of Jefferson
