Myrtle Lou Wagoner
Mrs. Myrtle Lou Lambert Wagoner, age 75, of West Jefferson, NC died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab. Center. Mrs. Wagoner was born August 12, 1934 in Ashe County to the late William and Blanche Mullis Lambert. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clabon Wagoner. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and reading her bible. She enjoyed her flowers, painting and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Wagoner is survived by:

Two Sons: C H Wagoner & Stephen Edward Wagoner both of West Jefferson

Three Brothers: Jessie, Bobby and Jimmy Lambert all of West Jefferson

Two sisters: Janie Lambert of West Jefferson & Elizabeth Campbell of Grassy Creek

6 grandchildren: Amanda Calloway and husband Jon, Travis Wagoner, Misty Beck and husband Josh, Kristopher Wagoner and wife Mindy, Brandon Dillard and wife Stacy & Danny Dillard

4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews

Norman Ray Miller

Mr. Norman Ray Miller age 73 of Lansing, NC the Big Windfall community died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his home. Mr. Miller was born February 3, 1937 in Ashe County to the late Carl and Bertha Shepherd Miller. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Orvil and Brian Miller and sisters, Opal Dutton and Doris Miller. Mr. Miller was a member of Apple Grove Baptist Church. He loved hunting and camping.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Earl Roten and Rev. Leon Miller. Burial will follow in the Pond Mountain cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Demma John Woodie

Mr. Demma John Woodie, age 92 of West Jefferson, NC died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab. Mr. Woodie was born May 12, 1917 in Ashe County to the late Jess and Jane Jenkins Woodie. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Pearl. Mr. Woodie was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Woodie served in the US Army. He was a beloved uncle and brother in-law. He was always ready to offer his assistance to anyone who needed help.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 2, 2010 at Friendly Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Kenneth McCann. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Robert Glenn Testerman

Mr. Robert Glenn Testerman, age 81 of Warrensville died Monday, March 29, 2010 at his home. Mr. Testerman was born in Ashe County on July 6, 1928 to the late Luther and Vertie Jones Testerman. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. He worked for Thomasville for 47 years before his retirement.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 12:00pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Tommy Dollar. Burial will follow in the Ashley-Testerman cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm Thursday prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Testerman is survived by, his wife: Jerlene Black Testerman, one son: Greg Testerman of Warrensville, one daughter: Debbie Hollar of Granite Falls, two brothers: Ray Testerman of Kernersville & Ralph Testerman of Warrensville, three sisters: Mildred Thomas of Winston-Salem, Ela Mae Brooks and Virginia Weaver both of Warrensville, three grandchildren, Kristin, Heather, Jake, one great-grandchild, Haley, several nieces and nephews

Marguerite Baker Slade

Mrs. Marguerite Baker Slade age 88 resident of Arlington, VA for 58 years died January 3, 2010 at Fairfax Hospital. Mrs. Slade was born in Ashe County on December 26, 1921 to the late Quincy and Alice Baker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Robert, sisters, Helen, Bea and her husband Horace F. Slade.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Baker cemetery in Warrensville.

She was the Beloved wife of the late Horace F. Slade; devoted and loving mother of Sandra S. Boehly, Michael F. Slade (Michele) and Robert B. Slade (Jeanne); adored grandmother of Bret Boehly, Kristin Boehly,Audrey Rae Slade, Nicole Slade, Jack Slade, Lauren Slade, Alexa Slade, Amanda Slade, and Hunter Slade; and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Julia Foster Bauguess, age 89, of Ft. Worth, TX, formerly of Ashe, died March 23rd in TX.

Reidun "Rae" Bulow

Reidun "Rae" Pedersen Bulow age 85, of Jefferson, NC died on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Margate Health and Rehab in Jefferson, NC. Mrs. Bulow was born on March 23, 1925 in Bergen, Norway to the late Ralph and Kari Iversen Pedersen. Bulow was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Albert O. Bulow. Mrs. Bulow and her late husband were pioneer members of On Top of the World in Ocala, Florida. She was an avid golfer and loved to play cards every Wednesday with the Jefferson Landing Ladies Association. She always loved the mountains or as she called it "God's Country".

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00am at the Club at Jefferson Landing with Charles Supin officiating. Private interment will be at a later date in Florida.

Mrs. Bulow is survived by: Daughter - Evelyn Bulow and husband Anthony Ziatyk of Jefferson, NC, Son - F. Richard Bulow and wife Karen of Otego, NY, Sister- Irene Tortora and husband Tony of Ocala, FL, sister in-law - Grace Bulow of Zellwood, FL, Grandchildren - Richard Bulow Jr. and wife Pamela, Alex Bulow and wife Trudy, Anthony Giordano, Great Grandchildren - Taylor Bulow, Jessica Bulow, Zachary Bulow, also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family request that memorials be made to: Seby Jones Cancer Center, c/o ARHF, P.O. Box 2600, Boone, NC 28607.

Frances Richardson Walton

Mrs. Frances Richardson Walton, age 86 of West Jefferson, NC died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Walton was born May 13, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Melvin and Lessie Campbell Richardson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Richardson. She was a devoted Christian and a wonderful mother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. D. Walton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bald Mountain cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, March 25th at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Walton is survived by:

Mr. Douglas McArthur Kemp age 68 of West Jefferson, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at Wake Forrest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Kemp was born March 14, 1942 in Ashe County to the late William and Viola Kemp. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters. He enjoyed fishing hunting and gardening.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 26, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lawrence Goodman. Burial will follow in the Lewis-Kemp cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, March 25th at Badger Funeral Home.

Elaine Howell Hodges

Elaine Sue Howell Hodges, age 49, of Crumpler, NC died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Hodges was born February 4, 1961 in Lexington, NC to Edward Howell and Faye Hege Howell Stone. She was preceded in death by her mother. Ms. Hodges was a former Home Economics teacher at Ashe County High School. She enjoyed watching movies, photography, traveling and spending time with her family. She was very proud of her sons serving their country, Justin in the US Navy and Josh in the Army National Guard.

Memorial services will be private.

Ms. Hodges is survived by:

Her father and step-mother: Edward and Jane Howell of Greensboro
