Rebecca Shepherd

Mrs. Rebecca Agnes Shepherd, better know as Becky, the widow of Lester Shepherd, age 77 of Lansing died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Shepherd was born July 29, 1931 in Cecil County, MD to the late Ernest and Anna Reynolds. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by: step son: Daniel Shepherd, brothers: Howard and Walter Reynolds, sister: Sara Jane Reynolds and half sister: Mary Miller. She was a member of Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Tom Stuart. Mrs. Shepherd will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, June 13th at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shepherd is survived by

One step son: Doug Shepherd of Lansing

One step daughter: Donna Toliver of Port Deposit, MD

2 brothers, Arthur Reynolds of Lansing, Eddie Reynolds of Colora, MD

7 step-grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren also survive.

Ruth Adaline Perry Lee

Ruth Adaline Perry Lee age 83 of West Jefferson, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Select Specialty Care in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Lee was born October 18, 1925 in Orlando, Florida to the late Colvert and Mary Schnell Perry. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Robert Lee.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church by Rev. Billy Robinson. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Lee is survived by:

Three sons: Steve Lee of West Jefferson, Jeff Lee of Crystal River, FL and Cliff Lee of North Wilkesboro

Two sisters: June Berry of Orlando, FL and Bonnie McElroy of Winston Salem

4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Christe Blevins

Christe Vojtash Blevins, age 56 of Fort Wayne, IN formerly of Ashe, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Blevins was born November 11, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Valentine and Anna Mae Pfeiffer Vojtash. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ford Blevins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 29, 2009 at Liberty Baptist Church in Silas Creek by Rev. Russell Sheets. Burial will follow in Dixon-Testerman cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Blevins is survived by:

One sister: Nancy Moore of IN

5 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews

Bruce Caudill

Mr. Bruce Caudill age 81 of Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at his home. Mr. Caudill was born December 29, 1927 in Ashe County to the late Arthur and Bessie Barr Caudill. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert, Todd and Ted Caudill. Mr. Caudill was a member of Smethport Methodist Church. He retired after serving twenty years in the US Navy. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and always had a smile and never complained.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Greg Plot and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Caudill is survived by:

One son: Wayne G. Caudill and wife L:ynn of Roanoke, VA

One daughter: Jacki Caudill Miller and husband Michael of Grassy Creek

One sister: Dean “Poodle” Denny of Highpoint

Four brothers: Harold Caudill of Charlotte, Roger Caudill of Raleigh, Pat Caudill of Wilkesboro and Dale Caudill of Carrboro

3 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thurman Carlton Blevins

Mr. Thurman Carlton Blevins age 55 of West Jefferson died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Blevins was born in Ashe County to Thurman Blevins and the late Cressie Osborne Blevins. He served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Korea. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a faithful true friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 3pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Floyd South. Burial will follow in the Scott Blevins cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Blevins is survived by, his wife, Joan Blevins, two daughters, Pam Highsmith & husband Sam of Wilmington, NC, Angel Jones & husband Mark of West Jefferson, one son, John hunt of Wilkesboro his father, Thurman Blevins and special friend Mary Adams of Lansing, 3 brothers, Danny Blevins & wife Carol of Hickory, Gregory Blevins of Crumpler and Jimmy Dean Blevins & wife Renee of Warrensville, 2 sisters, Levone Phillips & husband Joe of Hickory and Linda Robinson & husband Ron of West Jefferson, 6 grandchildren, Alex, Lauryn Highsmith, Jonathan, Jessie Hunt, Emily, Allie Jones and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pearl Miller Barker

Mrs. Pearl Barker age 82 of Lansing died Friday at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2pm at Round Knob Baptist Church by Rev. Randall Green, Rev. Ralph Smith, and Rev. Bill Miller.Burial will follow in the Miller-Mash cemetery.

The family will receive friends from6-8pm Sunday at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barker is survived by:1 daughter, Violet Sholar of Fleetwood,

3 brothers, Shade Miller of Jefferson, John Miller and Clint Miller both of West Jefferson, 2 sisters, Goldie Miller of West Jefferson and Ada Polk of Mocksville, NC, 2 step grandchildren 3 step- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorothy Agnello

Ms. Dorothy Templeton Agnello better known as Dottie age 79 of Fleetwood, NC died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at her home. Ms. Agnello was born October 17, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, New York to the late Stephen and Irene Muir Templeton. She was a retired guidance counselor with the Wilkes County School System. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by Father Steve Miller. Ms. Agnello is survived by: One son: Stephen Michael Agnello of Alpharetta, GA One brother: Robert Templeton of Macon, GA 2 Granddaughters, 1 great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mamie Gladys Johnson Roland

Mrs. Gladys Roland age 97 of Warrensville died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at her home. Daughter of the late Avery and Bina Miller Johnson, she was born on May 19, 1911 in Ashe County. Married to Arlie Barber, they had one son, Willie Barber. She later married Wade Roland, to their union was born a son, Ronnie Roland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wade Roland, who died September, 1977. Also her son , Ronnie Roland and his wife, Laura, and her son Ben Roland and his wife Emma, 1 daughter, Kathleen Burchette, daughter in-law, Mary L. Barber, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 great-grandson and 2 great great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 2pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Francis, Rev. Terry Mahaffey and Rev. Ben Johnson. Burial will follow in the Miller Roland cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm prior to the service.

Mrs. Roland is survived by, one son, Willie Barber of Cochranville, PA, two daughters: Nadine Foskey of, Hockessin, DE, Maeola Johnson of Conowingo, MD, her caregivers, Elizabeth McManus, Stacy Parker and Anastasia Chastain, Terry, Linda and Nathan Mahaffey. 21 Grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mont Dishman

Mr. Mont Dishman age 86 of Jefferson NC died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home. Mr. Dishman was born June 27, 1922 in Ashe County to the late Riley and Cordelia Barker Dishman. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son: Ricky Dishman Sr. He loved to farm and hunt ginseng. He served his country in World War II in the US Army receiving the American Theatre Service Medal, Eame Service Medal with three bronze stars, good conduct medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 15, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dean Shaw, Rev. Michael Carter and Rev. Mace Johnson. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Dishman is survived by; his wife: Willa Greay Wyrick Dishman, two sons: Jerry Dishman and wife Gail of West Jefferson and Jimmy Dishman and wife Joyce of Jefferson, one brother: Guy Dishman of PA, two sisters: Sally Miller of Jefferson and Tencie McNeill of West Jefferson, 4 grandchildren, Darin, Doug, David and Ricky Dishman, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Tyler Kim Testerman

Mr. Tyler Kim Testerman age 46 of Wilkesboro died Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Wilkesboro.

Mr. Testerman was born in Ashe County on March 31, 1963 to the late Edward Van “Pete” Testerman Sr. and Eleanor Gaye Barker Tersterman.

He loved to hunt and play golf.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jerry Harris. Burial will follow in Howell-Hill cemetery

The family will receive friends from 7-9pm Tuesday at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Testerman is survived by, one daughter, Rebecca Testerman Holman and husband Lawrence Holman, Jr. of Crumpler, two step children, Lynn Love of Mooresville, Lee Love of Wilkesboro, three brothers, Van Testerman of Lansing, Dale Testerman of Warrensville and Mark Testerman of Lansing, 2 grandchildren, Destiny and Jacob Holman, 2 step-grandchildren, Makayla and Caden Love, 1 niece, Erica Roten of Lansing 2 nephews, Chad and Joshua Testerman of Lansing, 1 step niece, Amy Phillips of Hudson, and 1 step nephew, Greg Campbell of Lansing also survive.

Mr. David Dean Baldwin age 62 of West Jefferson the Claybank Community died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Baldwin was born in Ashe County on April 29, 1947 to the late Clarence and Retha Osborne Baldwin. Including his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Baldwin and one sister, Mary Farmer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Henson cemetery in Lansing. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Tuesday prior to the service.

Mr. Baldwin is survived by, his wife Kathy Wood Baldwin, two sons, Roger Dean Baldwin of West Jefferson, Robbie Lee Baldwin of Crumpler, one brother, Herbert Baldwin of Warrensville, one sister, Margaret Faircloth of West Jefferson, 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Georgia Emmaline Perkins Burnett age 86 of West Jefferson, NC died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Segraves Care Center. Mrs. Burnett was born April 10, 1923 in Ashe County to the late James and Clara Parsons Perkins. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Burnett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Elliott Osowitt and Rev. J. C. Norton. Burial will follow in the Big Flatts Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Burnett will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Phyllis Ann Brooks Weaver age 62 of West Jefferson, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at her home. Ms. Weaver was born March 2, 1947 in Ashe County to the late Phildon and Jenny Roark Brooks.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM Tuesday at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
