Colonel Elijah Francis
Mr. Colonel Elijah Francis age 92 of Crumpler, NC died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home. Mr. Francis was born July 8, 1916 in Ashe County to the late Coy and Lanie Wiles Francis. Mr. Francis taught school for thirty years. He coached boys and girls basketball at Healing Springs, Jefferson High School and Ashe Central High School.
Private family services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 20, 2009 in the Wiles cemetery.

Elmer Ralph Hamm
Mr. Elmer Ralph Hamm, age 81 of Warrensville, NC died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at his home. Mr. Hamm was born March 28, 1928 in Ashe County to the late Glenn and Eula Elliott Hamm. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Earl Hamm. He was a member of the Warrensville Baptist Church. He loved traveling, listening to bluegrass music and working in his garden.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Warrensville Baptist Church by Rev. Dennis Blevins and Rev. Jeff Nave. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Ms. Elizabeth Irene Miller Medley age 48 of Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at her home. Ms. Medley was born December 17, 1960 in Ashe County to the late Arnold and Jessie Howell Miller.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 18, 2009 in the Sexton cemetery by Rev. Keith Casey. The family will receive friends from 10:30 - 11:00 AM prior to the service in the cemetery.

Billy Joe Baker
Mr. Billy Joe Baker age 54 of Jefferson, NC died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at his home. Mr. Baker was born February 2, 1955 in Ashe County to Charlie and Ruby Turnmire Baker. He was preceded in death by his father: Charlie Baker, brothers: Stanley, Clarence and Cliff Baker and Donald Powers and sister: Magdalene Powers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home by Rev. Tommy Dollar. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 14th at Badger Funeral Home.

James Walter Latham
Mr. James Walter Latham age 76 of Creston, NC died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at his home. Mr. Latham was born October 18, 1932 in Ashe County to the late Thomas and Mary Roark Latham. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters. James loved hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jamie Denny, Rev. Rex Eldreth and Rev. David Blackburn. Burial will follow in the Roark cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Elsie Whitley Reed
Mrs. Elsie Reed age 71 of Laurel Springs died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Reed was born January 2, 1938 in Mecklenburg County to the late David and Nora Crump Whitley. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob Reed and son, David Danny Reed. She was a member of Peak Creek Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed spending time at Mountain Hearts.

Max Seagle
Mr. Max Lewis Seagle age 78, beloved husband of Josephine, departed this life at his home on April 7, 2009, in Sparta, NC. Born July 5, 1930 in Pageton, W. Virginia, he was the son of the late John Lance and Pearl Presley Hoke Seagle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one half brother, Raymond Burge Hoke; two half sisters Pauline H. Fregedy and Jean H. Phipps and a step-son Raymond Alves.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory in addition to his wife Josephine are, his daughter, Kim Horn and husband Len, sons, Dennie Seagle and wife Barbara, Bruce Seagle and wife Freda, and Lance (Tiger) Seagle and wife Patti; two step-sons, Steven Alves and wife Janice, David Alves and wife Darla, two step-daughters, Irene Franz and Judy Carmody and husband Pat, brother, Dale Seagle and wife Ola Mae, sister, Alma Colvard and half sister, Freda Adams, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and friends.
Max proudly served his country for 25 years in the US Air Force. He received a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and several other medals and citations. He retired at Beale AFB, California in 1974 with a rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Max was of the Baptist faith and a member of New River Baptist Church. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, bowling and playing free cell on the computer. He loved his family and home and devoted his life to taking care of them.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Raymond Seagle and Rev. John McCreary. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Connie Lee Senter White
Mrs. Connie Senter White age 66 of North Wilkesboro died Wednesday, April1, 2009 at Duke University Medical Center.
Mrs. White was born in Laurel Springs, NC on February 21, 1943 to the late Nora Senter. She worked for the US Federal Government as an International Trade Specialist. She was a Stevens minister in the United Methodist Church, founder of the Soup Kitchen in Waynesville, NC and also worked with the Alternative Health Ministries Outreach. She was a member of Long’s Chapel Methodist Church. Including her mother she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Barlow.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Howard Davis and Rev. Fred Jones. Burial will follow in the Peak Creek Community cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service.
Mrs. White is survived by, her husband: John Burborough, one son: James White and wife Angela of North Wilkesboro, NC, two step- grandchildren Katherine, Kimberly, two aunts, Ossie Sheets, Ella Senter and one nephew, Jeff Barlow .

Mrs. Nell Tester Campbell age 94 of Grassy Creek died Friday at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Phillip Duvall. Burial will follow in the Baptist Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-3pm prior to the service Sunday at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by:
2 sons, Charles Campbell and Donnie Campbell both of Grassy Creek 3 daughters, Ruth Waddell of Grassy Creek, Nay Dean Baldwin of Whitetop, VA and Martha Blevins of Mouth of Wilson, VA. 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pauline Parsons Lewis
Mrs. Pauline Parsons Lewis, age 75 of Warrensville, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Lewis was born December 19, 1933 in Ashe County to the late Ed and Jean Combs Parsons. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Brown Lewis and brother, Darrell Parsons. Pauline was a member of Sugar Tree Baptist Church where she came to know the Lord at the age 66 and worked diligently spreading His gospel to everyone. She drew all her strength from her faith in the Lord. She was very tender hearted person loved to work in the flowers and watching wildlife along the river. Pauline retired from Hanes as an inspector. Family was always first to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer and Rev. Jim Francis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Eller cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by, two sons: Harold Lewis and wife Sharon, Steve Lewis and wife Debby all of Warrensville, one daughter: Bendy Pennington of Warrensville, three brothers: Delmar Parsons of Delaware, Herman Parsons of Mtn. City, TN & Roger Parsons of Creston, three sisters: Thelma Vineyard of Lexington, NC, Agnes Dolinger of Wilkesboro & Mary Lou McCoy of Creston, 6 grandchildren, Jamie Paul Lewis and wife Leslie, Kim Stokes and husband Robbie, Bret Lewis and wife Melissa, Sarah Byrd and husband James, Chad Lewis and wife Cari, Kaylan Lewis, 5 great-grandchildren, Ethan Lewis, Hayden Lewis, Henry Byrd, River Lewis, Cole Lewis, several nieces, nephews and a special friend Mary Osborne also survive.

Pauline Virginia Weaver Roark
Mrs. Pauline Virginia Roark age 87 of Strongsville, OH, died Thursday, March 13, 2009 at Althenheim Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Roark was born August 31, 1921 in Alleghany County to the late Grover and Lucy Blevins Weaver. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernice Roark.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Piney Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
