Vadia Ham
Mrs. Vadia Ann Dickens Ham age 47 of Lansing, NC died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ham was born September 18, 1960 in Chester County, PA to Billy and Annie Blevins Dickens. She was a member of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Dept. She loved riding horses, hunting and riding motorcycles.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. J. C. Darnell. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2nd at Badger Funeral Home.

Joe Gambill
Mr. Joe Alan Gambill, age 74 of Wilkesboro, NC died Thursday, July 29, 2008 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Mr. Gambill was born March 30, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Judge Robert M. and Hazel Reeves Gambill.
Mr. Gambill was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a law degree from UNC. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Gambill cemetery by D. David VanHoy.
Mr. Gambill is survived by:
two brothers: Malcolm Gambill and wife Helen of Naples, Florida, and Jerry Gambill and wife Mollie of Crumpler, NC

Virginia Grubb
Mrs. Virginia Lou Grubb age 83 of Todd died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Margate Health and Rehab. Mrs. Grubb was born in Ashe County on July 6, 1925 to the late Lawson and Lillie Orfield Edwards. She loved to cook, pick blackberries, and loved all the people in her community. Most of all she loved her family. She was a member of Laurel Knob Baptist Church. Virginia retired from Sprague Electric after 29 years. Including her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Burl Grubb and her son Randall Grubb on July 27, 2007.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 8pm at Laurel Knob Baptist Church in Todd by Rev. James Rash and Rev. Charles Edwards. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 11:00am at Stephens cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Grubb is survived by, three sons: Jerry Grubb of Todd, Terry Grubb and wife Peni of West Jefferson and Barry Grubb and wife Kay of Crossnore, two granddaughters, Desiree Barr and husband Ricky of Houston, TX, Tara Johnson of Asheville, one great-granddaughter, Nadia Johnson of Asheville, one sister: Betty Philips of Hudson, four brothers: Buren Edwards, Lindsey Edwards both of West Jefferson, Ernest Edwards of Greensboro and Danny Edwards of Thomasville several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mary Ruth Jones Taylor
Mrs. Mary Ruth Taylor age 91 of Jefferson died Friday, July 25, 2008 at Margate Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Grayson County, VA on July 28, 1916 to the late Robert Cyle and Mary Ann Burkett Jones. Including her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Monroe Franklin Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 2:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church by, Rev. Dennis Love, Rev. Darrell Giles and Rev. David Grinell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by, one daughter: Martha Colvard and husband Tommy of Jefferson, 2 grandchildren, Charlie Colvard, George Colvard and wife April, 2 great-grandchildren, Tori and Brad Colvard and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Helen Miller
Mrs. Helen F. Miller age 85 of Lansing died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Segraves Care Center.
Mrs. Miller was born in Lansing on December 22, 1922 to the late Lester Miller and Margaret Pruitt Miller Barker. She loved to sew and garden. Including her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Thomas Miller, three brothers, Dean Miller, Dale Miller and Robert Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 8:00pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Danny Miller. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 12:00pm at Cox cemetery in Lansing.
Mrs. Miller is survived by, one daughter, Louise Miller DiVenere of West Jefferson, two grandchildren Angie Stansberry and husband Eddie of Lansing, Tamara DiVenere and husband Jak Reeves of West Jefferson, her caregiver, Jeff Harris and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sebert Miller
Mr. Sebert Dean Miller age 83 of Millers Creek, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mr. Miller was born September 11, 1924 in Ashe County to the late Joe and Cordie Bowlin Miller. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers: Gilbert, Robert and Henry Miller. Mr. Miller joined Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in 1960 where he served as a past Sunday school teacher. His hobby was beekeeping.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 18, 2008 at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church by Pastor Sonny Thomas, Rev. Russell Sheets, Rev. Jessie Cox and Rev. Eric Miller. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 17th at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

Madeline Goss
Mrs. Madeline Nola Miller Goss age 73 of Jefferson, NC, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Goss was born August 24, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Everette and Nola Hamm Miller. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Goss.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins. Burial will follow in the Goss cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, July 12th at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Earlene Church Roche, age 65 of Jefferson, NC died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Roche was born
October 8, 1942 in Ashe County to the late Clint and Georgia Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Church and Rev. Rex Eldreth. Burial will follow in the Stevens Community Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service.
