Mildred D. Lewis

HENDERSON — Mildred Davis Lewis, age 82, a resident of Rt. 2, Norlina, on the Warrenton Road, died Saturday afternoon at Oxford Manor in Oxford. She was a native of Pittsylvania Co., Va. and was the daughter of the late James Nathan and Lessie Miliam Davis. She was the widow of Willard Jackson Lewis, a homemaker, and was a member of the North Henderson Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Highland Memorial Park in Danville, Va., by the Rev. Jimmy Nickelston.
She is survived by one daughter, Pauline Lewis Henderson, of Henderson, three sisters, Mamie Christianbury of Durham, Martha Satterfield of South Boston, Va., and Margaret Henderson of Keling, Va.; one brother, Nathan Davis of Danville, Va., one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends today at the home of Pauline Henderson on the Warrenton Road in Warren County.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Harry H. Clark

OXFORD — Harry Hunter Clark, 79, of 425 Williamsboro St., died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Brantwood Nursing & Retirement Center following an extended illness. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Harry B. and Clyde Vaughan Clark.
He was a member of Oxford Baptist Church, retired co-owner and manager of Seven-Eleven Grocery in Oxford, past Master of Oxford Masonic Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. and a veteran of World War II.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Island Creek Baptist Church cemetery by Dr. J. Steven Bolton.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Forsythe Clark of the home; four daughters, Diane Clark Owen, Dale Clark Smith and Denise Clark Corbitt, all of Oxford, and Julia Clark Atwell of Willow Spring; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Pannie Bolton

NORLINA — Pannie Pearl Mustian Bolton, 96, formerly of Norlina, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Richmond, Va. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Ricks Mustian and Ella Perkinson Mustian. She was the widow of Robert D. Bolton.
She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church, volunteer at the V.A. Hospital in Richmond, former employee of G.C. Murphy, D.A.V., American Legion.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Clayton. Burial will follow in Jerusalem United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Bobby Bolton of Norlina; one daughter, Patsy B. Crostic of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Thomas J. Hinsley Sr.

HENDERSON — Thomas Jefferson “Tom” Hinsley Sr., 82, of 218 Southern Ave., Henderson, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Chatham County native and the son of the late G. Davis and Sarah Thomas Hinsley.
He was a retired engineer with Seaboard Railroad, where he was employed for 40 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the Henderson Masonic Lodge, #229 A.F. & A.M.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Charles Cook.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Poe Hinsley; a daughter, Cheryl H. Collins of Henderson; a son, Thomas Jefferson “Jeff” Hinsley Jr. of Anderson, S.C.; a sister, Virginia H. Stone of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home on Southern Avenue.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Doug Byrom, Centura Bank, P.O. Drawer 1069, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Annie B. Hamm

HENDERSON — Annie Breedlove Hamm, age 95, a former resident of 3374 Weldon's Mill Road, died Monday morning in a local nursing home. She was a native of Granville County and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Lee Hayes Breedlove. She was the widow of C. H. Hamm, Sr.
She was a member of the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 55 years, and was a past President of the WMU. She was also a past President of the former Aycock School PTO, and was a member of the Home Demonstration club.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A. M. in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tim Burgess. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine H. "Kitty" Mabry, of Wilson; one son, C.H. Hamm Jr. of New Bern, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home and Wednesday morning from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jerry Hamm, Clifton Edwards, Michael Moore, Billy Wilkes, Larry Douglas Bailey, Sr., Larry Douglas Bailey, Jr., and John Trevor Denny.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1699 Weldon's Mill Road, Henderson, N. C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Lawrence E. Brown Jr.

HENDERSON -- Lawrence E. Brown Jr., 59, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in New Brittian, Conn. He was a native of Henderson and the son of Vera Brown of 601 East Rock Spring St.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Bruce R. Collins

MECKLENBURG -- Bruce R. Collins, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina died on June 27, 2000 at Mecklenburg Health Care Center. Mr. Collins was born on April 12, 1923 in Henderson, NC. He was the son of the late John Wade Collins and Rowena Evans Collins.
Mr. Collins was retired after 27 years with Monarch Marking Systems where he was a regional manager. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II. He was a member of Myers Park Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a teacher in Pre-School Church School, Food Service Volunteer and various other services. He volunteered for Friendship Trays and for N.C. Harvest.
Mr. Collins is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Davis Collins; a son, David B. Collins and his wife, Linda Dixon Collins of Charlotte; a daughter, Carol Lynn Collins of Charlotte; a sister, Marilyn Collins Wells and her husband, Johnny and a niece and nephew of Henderson, NC.
A memorial service for Mr. Collins will be held Friday, June 30, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Myers Park Baptist Church with Dr. H. Stephen Shoemaker, the Rev. Joseph D. Aldrich and Dr. Eugene Owens.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to all the caregivers of Mecklenburg Health Care Center for their support during his illness.
Memorials may be made to Myers Park Baptist Church Columbarium Fund or Education Fund, P.O. Box 6006, Charlotte, NC, 28207-0001. Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center is serving the Collins family.

Elder Doretha Cook

HENDERSON -- Elder Doretha Cook, 76, of 326 Charles St., died Friday, June 23, 2000, at her residence. She was a former native of New York and was born in Ashe County to the late Walter and Beatrice Reed.
She lived in New York until three years ago before moving to Henderson. She pastored Faith Tabernacle U.H.C.A. in Mt. Vernon, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Temple Holy Church by the Rev. Roosevelt Alston. Entombment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh.
Surviving are her husband, Matt Cook of the home; one son, Ronel Cook Sr. of the home; and two grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service and other times at the residence.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Gary M. Dunston

HENDERSON -- Gary McDonald Dunston, 35, of 3967 Dabney Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He was a member of Greater Love Pentecostal Deliverance Church in Kittrell. He was an employee of Feeser Chrysler/Plymouth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson by the Revs. Marshall Henderson, Ronald Henderson and Randy Alston.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Greater Love Pentecostal Deliverance Church, U.S. Hwy. 1, Kittrell.
Surviving are his wife, Vanette Fisher Dunston; one daughter, Shakirrah Lashae Dunston of the home; two sons, Troy Lamont Daniel of the home and Marcus Hammie of Henderson; his parents, Marshall H. Dunston and Ruth Roberson of Henderson; four sisters, Letha Bass of Oxford, Joyce Cheek, Paula Dunston and Tara Dunston, all of Henderson; four brothers, Reginald Dunston of Wake Forest, Marshall Dunston, Dennis Dunston and Curtis Dunston, all of Henderson.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Cliffie E. Faulkner

HENDERSON -- Cliffie Ellington Faulkner, 81, of 323 Davis St., Henderson, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Frank and Maranda Roberson Ellington.
She was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flowers Funeral Chapel, by the Revs. Cam Ford and Jeff Prewer. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Nathaniel J. Faulkner; two daughters, Mary Alice Faulkner of the home, and Margie F. Gillespie of Henderson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Roberson, Lou Pearce, Ray Liles, David King, Eugene Daniels, J.L. Blackwell, Clarence Clark and Bob Duncan.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Virgie M. Sadler

HENDERSON -- Virgie Matthews Sadler, age 87, a former resident of the Watkins Community, died Thursday afternoon June 29, 2000 at Carolina House of Wake Forest.
She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Cader Albert and Rosa Fuller Matthews, and the widow of Fred William Sadler. She was a lifelong member of the Hermon United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ben Sims. Burial will follow in the Hermon United Methodist Church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Sadler Adcock, of Raleigh, one sister, Lois Matthews
Wade, of Wake Forest, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning July 1, 2000 from 9:30 until 10:45 A.M. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be her nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hermon United Methodist
Church, c/o the Rev. Ben Sims, 603 Forest Rd., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by the J. M. White Funeral Home.

Samuel G. Mayfield

WISE — Samuel Glen Mayfield, 84, of Wise, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wise by the Rev. James Johnson, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Green Mayfield of the home; one son, Samuel Mayfield Jr. of Petersburg, Va.; four daughters, B. Lucille Allgood of Red Bank, N.J., Helen Mayfield of New York City, Esther Mayfield of the home, and Carolyn Davis of Raleigh; one sister, Lucille Allen of New York City; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Bessie M. Downey

OXFORD — Bessie Mae Downey, 75, of 710 Goshen St., died Friday, June 30, 2000, at her residence.

Myrtle W. LaMastus

OXFORD — Myrtle Worley LaMastus, 80, of 112 Planters Place, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at her home. She was a Johnston County native and the daughter of the late George and Julia Watson Worley.
She was a member of Oxford Church of God and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Oxford Church of God by the Rev. Milton Abbott. Entombment will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband, James W. LaMastus of the home; two daughters, Millie Walker of Madison, Ala., and Pat Strickland of Oxford; a son, Robert Radford of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Rosa Lee Starling of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

Olivia Lee

WARRENTON — Olivia Lee, 91, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in New York.
She is the aunt of Lucille Daniels of the Snow Hill Community.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Walter R. Vaughan III

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. — Walter Robert Vaughan III, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was a native of Henderson and the son of the late Walter Robert Vaughan Jr. and Annie White Vaughan.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Ray Vaughan of Charlotte; three sons, Philip Walter Vaughan of New Port Richey, Fla., Edwin Folger Vaughan of Greenville, and Richard Carlisle Vaughan of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Vaughan Register of Burlington and Sallie Vaughan Rabb of Gastonia; a brother, Wallace White Vaughan ofDaytona Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elmwood cemetery in Henderson. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Cook.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Jenny C. Williams

HENDERSON — Jenny Cheek Williams, 91, of 855 Foster Road, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at her residence.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Stanley H. Woodie Jr.

HENDERSON — Stanley Hill Woodie Jr., 79, of 1636 Oxford Road, Henderson, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his home He was a native of Farmers, Ky., and the son of the late Stanley Hill Woodie Sr. and Nell Cassity Woodie Bartron.
He was a retired machine builder with Burkart-Carolina Inc., where he was employed for 31 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 A.F. & A.M., the Henderson Shrine Club, and was a charter member of West Hills Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Doug Addington. Burial will follow in Liberty Vance United Church of Christ cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Lassiter Woodie; two sisters, Lorraine W. Vreeland of Newport News, Va., and Dorothy B. Collins of Yorktown, Va.; and a brother, Don E. Bartron of Newport News, Va.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the Elders of West Hills Presbyterian Church. The members of the Henderson Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West Hills Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1435, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
