Beulah C. Duke

WILMINGTON — Beulah Crocker Duke, age 89, a resident of Wilmington, N.C., and a former resident of Henderson, died May 1, 2000 in Wilmington. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of the late Jimmy and Flora Crocker, a homemaker, and the widow of Donald "Duke" Duke.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 9, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Duke Perdue of Wilmington; one son, D. A. Duke, Jr. of Abilene, Texas; one brother, Grover Crocker of Henderson; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 9, 2000, from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Arrangements are being handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Roena K. Houston

HENDERSON — Roena Kearney Houston, 71, of 704 Daniel St., died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Otha E. Kearney and Roena Ward Kearney. She was the widow of Charles Houston.
She was educated in the Franklin County Public Schools and was employed with King County Hospital from which she retired in 1992. She was a member of Mitchell Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Garnes Funeral Chapel by the Revs. S.E. Blalock, Jimmie L. Johnson and Melvin H. Marrow. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Joshua James Kearney of Hampton, Va.; one granddaughter; three brothers, Otha Kearney Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Robert L. Kearney of Philadelphia, Pa., and John W. Kearney of East Orange, N.J.; four sisters, Fannie M. Marrow of Henderson, Magnolia L. Kearney of Henderson, Velma K. Foster of Kittrell and Ethelene Kearney of Chicago, Ill.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be Norman Alston, Toussant Alston, Lawrence Foster, Milton Glasco, Shawn Kearney, Morriston Marrow, Stanley Slade and Stanley Williams.
Floralbearers will be Evelyn Alston, Niki Alston, Bessie Hargrove, Doris Slade, Sandra Slade and Deborah Thurman.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Lena A. Jackson

HENDERSON — Lena Ayscue Jackson, age 83, a former resident of 508 S. Cooper Drive, died Wednesday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Omega and Madolia Hughes Ayscue, and widow of Hubert Thomas Mulllins and Marvin Luther Jackson. She was a member of the South Henderson Church Of God.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rodney Inscoe. Burial will follow in the Liberty-Vance United Church Of Christ cemetery at Epsom.
She is survived by two daughters, Esther M. Moss and Judy M. Robertson both of Henderson; one step-son, Luther Jackson of Durham; five grandchildren, Robin M. Brezinski, Jeffrey Scott Moss, Edwin Noel Robertson Jr., Angela Robertson, and Dannette Robertson Parrish; one step-grandchild, Kent Jackson; and five great grandchildren, Jason Brezinski, Nicholas Brezinski, Brittany Parrish, Logan Loyd, and Allen Moore.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Allen and Esther Moss at 84 Wintergreen Road at Carolina Pines.
Serving as active pall bearers will be James Nelson Roberson, Jack Faucette, Bruce Edwards, Billy Ayscue, Alvin Johnson Jr., and C.W. West.
Arrangements are being handled by the J. M. White Funeral Home.

Mary Mayo

RIDGEWAY — Mary Mayo, of Ridgeway, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whites Grove Christian Church in Norlina. The Rev. John Pugh, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, James E. Mayo of the home; two daughters, Emma M. Ramey of Philadelphia, Pa., and Rebecca M. Davis of the home; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Tommy L. Overby

OXFORD — Tommy Lee Overby, 49, of 5205 Antioch Road, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his residence.
He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Adolphus Smith. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Thornton Overby; one son, Timothy Dwaine Thornton of thehome; one daughter, Tomecia Liane Overby of Henderson; four brothers, Willie Overby of Oxford, Elvie Overby of Maplewood, N.J., Chester Cooper of East Orange, N.J., and Johnnie Cooper of Irvington, N.J.; six sisters, Emma Jean Overby and Janie Overby, both of Oxford, Tina Green of Butner and Erceline Cozart, both of Butner, Blondie Satterwhite of Creedmoor and Ivey Hall of Newark, N.J.; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home.

Stephanie R. Russell

CREEDMOOR — Stephanie Renee Russell, 5, of 1568 Crooked Branch Road, died in an auto accident on Wednesday, July 5, 2000.
She was a Durham County native and the daughter of Victor G. Russell Jr. and Nancy Hissem Russell.
A member of Covenant Baptist Church in Gainsville, Fla.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Creedmoor United Methodist Church by Dr. Everett France.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are three sisters, Laci Russell, Chelsea Russell and Natalie Russell, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Clifford Dale and Mary Ellen Hissem of Alachua, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Ann Brantley Russell and the late Victor G. Russell Sr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565 or to one’s favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Creedmoor United Methodist Church prior to the funeral service.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home.

Joseph J. Casto

HENDERSON — Joseph James Casto, age 74, a resident of 435 Deer Hollow Road in the Townsville Community, died Thursday night at his home. He was a native of Atlantic County, N.J. and was the son of the late Lewis and Margarette Foster Casto.
He was a retired hardwood floor installer, and was employed by M.R. Williams, Inc. for 19 years, and a member of the Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Alan McAllister.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Culver Casto, of the home; one daughter, Joyce Palasak, of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Joseph James Casto, Jr. of Epsom and Moe Casto of Townsville; one brother, Larry Casto of Mays Landing, N.J.; two sisters, Ella Westcott of Pleasantville, N.J., and Joyce Stanton of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted and contributions made to Friends Of Hospice, P.O. Box 2596, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are being handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Mary H. Durant

HENDERSON — Mary Helen Durant, 93, of 70 North Barham Lane, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Britthaven Nursing Care.
She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Susanna Davis.
She joined Greenwood Baptist Church at an early age and then later joined United Solid Rock Faith Ministries where services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Moore H. Bynum. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Walter Williams of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Ethel Holden of Baltimore, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at other times at the residence.
The body will be on view at the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Patricia H. Bullock

CREEDMOOR — Patricia Hodnett Bullock, 60, of 2546 Hwy. No. 15, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at her home. She was a Durham County native and the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Hackney Hodnett. She was medically retired.
Surviving are her husband, William “Bill” Bullock; three sons, William W. Bullock III, Michael T. Bullock, both of Durham, and Edward “Ed” Bullock of Creedmoor; one brother, William “Bill” Hodnett of Durham; and two grandchildren.
Private memorial services were conducted at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mary H. Durant

William G. Wilson

HENDERSON — William George Wilson, age 57, a resident of 974 Massenburg Road in the Epsom Community, died Friday night at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a native of Greenfield, Mass., and was the son of the late George E. and Sylvia Blinn Wilson.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was medically retired as a chef.
Mr. Wilson attended the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a member of Loyal Order Of Moose Chapter 1412 in Henderson.
He is survived by: three daughters, Alisa W. Gorman of Henderson, Maria W. Childers of Fort Meade, Md., and Ellen Burt of Brockton, Mass.; one son, Michael Wilson of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Georgia Coolidge and Laura Wilson, both of Plymouth, Mass.; four brothers, Lawrence Wilson of Clarksville, Tenn., Fred and Wilson, Richard Wilson, and George Wilson all of Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced later for a memorial service to be held at the Henderson Moose Lodge.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Dorothy D. Woodlief

KITTRELL — Dorothy Dickerson Woodlief, age 80, a former resident of the Kittrell community, died Saturday morning in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Samuel Roy and Essie Brummitt Dickerson, and was the widow of Thomas U. Woodlief.
She was retired from Burlington Industries.
Mrs. Woodlief was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church, but in later life attended New Hope Baptist Church, and was a member of the James B. White Chapter 199 Order Of The Eastern Star.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Don A.Vaughan. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
She is survived by: three sisters, Marjorie D. Dixon and Christine D. Forsythe, both of Franklinton, and Mary Jane D. Capps of Raleigh; and one brother, Albert V. Dickerson of Kittrell.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Dennis Dickerson, Mike Dickerson, Larry Dickerson, Nelson Dickerson, Shawn Capps, Wayne Dickerson, and Stephen Dickerson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, P. O. Box 111, Kittrell, N.C. 27544.

Samuel J. Terry

HENDERSON — Samuel James Terry, 39, of 95 Cedar Cove Road, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, of an accidental drowning in Granville County.
He was an ordained minister. He was an employee of Whitco Exterminating Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at United Solid Rock Faith Ministries in Norlina by Bishop Sandy Burks. Burial will be in Oak Level Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are a wife, Renee’ Evans Terry; two daughters, Sametria Hymon of Henderson and Serena Terry of the home; one infant son, Daniel Terry of the home; his parents, Elder James Terry and Minister Lottie Davis Terry of Henderson; six sisters, Sandy Dunston of Kittrell, Connie Terry of Dover, Del., Minister Arnetta Williams, Rosa Bullock, Veronica Thomas and Lottie Kersey, all of Henderson; and one brother, Frank Terry of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Elder and Mrs. James Terry, 933 Lehman St.
The body be at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson, 222 Zeb Robinson Road, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Lonnie E. Williams Sr.

OXFORD — Lonnie Edward Williams Sr., died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Bishop Clinton Winston. Burial will follow in Cheatham Memorial Park.
Surviving are one daughter, Christine Laurel Williams of White Plains, N.Y.; four sons, Lonnie E. Williams Jr., Lionel Elliott Williams of Boston, Mass., Lonnie Staley Williams of Paris, France, and DeLawrence Brooks of the home; one sister, Ernestine Williams of Oxford; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the residence of Freddie Nichols, 306 New College St.
The body will be at Wright Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

Maurice L. Ragland

OXFORD — Maurice L. Ragland, three years old, died Friday, July 7, 2000.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Matthew Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Pattie Lynch

WARRENTON — Pattie Lynch, 82, of Ridgeway, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hollister by the Rev. Thomas Richardson. Burial will follow in the Lynch Family cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Sadie Boyd of Norlina and Minnie Pearl Silver of Clinton, Md.; one son, Louis Lynch of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mittie Alston of Whitakers, Geneva Richardson and Betty Mae Harrison, both of Hollister, and Mary Etta Hill of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, James E. Lynch of Whitakers, and Rogers Lynch of Philadelphia, Pa.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

Nicholas R. Pescara

WARRENTON — Nicholas R. “Nick” Pescara, 79, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in East Palatka, Fla. He was the widower of Rosalie Brown Pescara.
He was a World War II veteran and a correctional officer for The Florida Prison System.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Inez by his grandson, Willie, and his son-in-law, Barry Pescara.
Surviving are one son, Mitchell Pescara of Sanford, Fla.; one daughter, Cathy Seals of East Palatka, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.
