Lewis Page Spencer Jr.

HENDERSON — Lewis Page Spencer, Jr., age 65, a resident of 613 Franklin Lane, died Thursday morning at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a native of Leggett, N.C. and was the son of Mittie Norwood Spencer of South Boston, Virginia and the late Rev. Lewis Page Spencer Sr..
From the early 1950s to the mid 1950s he was a pitcher in the New York Yankee organization. He was retired from Sprint where he was a Central Office Repairman, and attended the Flat Rock United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the at the Flat Rock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Clint Spence and the Rev. Stan Brown. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his present wife, Carolyn Young Spencer, of the home; one daughter, Lynn Ellen Spencer of Henderson; two step- daughters, Denise D. McDade and Julie D. Barker, both of Henderson, one sister, Isabel S. Bradley of South Boston, Va.; and five stepgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
At other times they will be at the home on Franklin Lane.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jerry Tucker, Brad Bartholomew, Bill Edwards, Derrill Young, R. A. Bartholomew, Dewey Young, and James Young. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the "Mello Yello Gang" and the "Nike Group" of Kerr Lake Country Club.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the, American Heart Association, North Carolina Office P.O. Box 4390 Chapel Hill, NC 27515-4390.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Fannie Steede

WARRENTON — Fannie Mae Somerville Steede, 95, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the Bristol Manor Health Care Center in Rochelle Park, N.J.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Carson F. Jones Jr., pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary A. Steede and Bernice Steede Click, both of Hackensack, N.J., and Clementine Steede Munks of Warrenton; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Sarah S. Jones, Mildred S. Reid, Dorothy S. Taylor, all of Warrenton, Lucy S. Carter of Carrboro, and Alma S. Jackson of Tampa, Fla.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Edna M. Barker

OXFORD — Edna Morris Barker, 89, of 907 College St., died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, in Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Younger and Ellie Badgett Morris.
She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dr. J. Steven Bolton. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, James “Buck” Barker of the home; one son, Jim Barker of Greensboro; one sister, Elsie Morris Dickerson of Oxford; one brother, Dr. James B. Morris of Durham; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Steven Mark Dickerson

STOVALL — Steven Mark Dickerson, age 34, a resident of 303 S. Railroad St., Stovall, died Thursday August 17, 2000 at his home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of Lynwood and Della Adcox Dickerson of Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 20, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home by the Rev. John Yount. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery in Henderson.
In addition to his parents he is survived by: his wife, Amy Ramsey Dickerson; two daughters Jessica Paige Dickerson and Crystal Lynn Dickerson, both of the home; one son Marcus Cameron Dickerson of the home’ and one sister, Cindy D. Ayscue of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Joann Strickland 409 Pine St. Stovall.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Steve Adcox, Bobby Dickerson, Craig Keeton, Rick
Tharrington, Lee Simpson, and James Ramsey, Jr.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Colyn Ronald Lee

KITTRELL — Colyn Ronald Lee, 3-month-old infant twin son of Christie Ayscue Jackson and Hubert Ronald Lee, residents of 544 Bobbitt Road, died Wednesday night at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He was born May 5, 2000 in Chapel Hill.
Services will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Calvin Mills. Burial will follow in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by: two brothers, Ryan Rodney Lee and Dustyn Jackson, both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Marlene and Michael Norwood, of Henderson; his paternal grandmother, Magdalene Donahoe, of Henderson; his paternal grandfather, Hubert Waylon Lee of Fayetteville; and his maternal great-grandfather, Grady Lewis Faulkner, of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his grandmother, Magdalene Donahoe at 910 Abbott Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Rodney T. Abbott and Tim Stevenson.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Ethel M. Miller

HENDERSON — Ethel Mae Miller, 81, of 168 North St., Warsaw, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Duplin County native and the daughter of the late Robert and Cora Best Miller.
She attended Elizabeth City College and was a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church in Warsaw.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. Nathaniel Mitchell. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are one sister, Cora Lee Lofton of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Preston Cannady, 1064 North Pinkston St.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Walter R. Taylor

WARRENTON — Walter Russell “Wade” Taylor, 78, of Concord, formerly of Warren County, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at his residence. He was a Jones County native and the son of the late Kenneth Franklin Taylor and Ada Gray Jones Franklin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and former owner/operator of the Home Decorator Shoppe in Warrenton.
Surviving are his wife, Bivian Stevens Taylor of the home; one daughter, Jennifer T. Pittman of Wake Forest; one sister, Emily Taylor Gardner of Warrenton; one brother, Joseph Taylor of Ludlow, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Harry Watson

WARREN COUNTY — Harry Watson, 55, formerly of Warren County, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Hillsborough.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Alicia G. Boyter

HENDERSON -- Alicia Gayle Boyter, 16, of 116 Carolina Woods Lane, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, as the result of an auto accident. She was the daughter of Linda Conner Hayes and Steve Hayes of Henderson and David Boyter of Oxford.
She was a junior at J.F. Webb High School.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Bruce LeGates Sr. and family friend Joan Dubuck. Burial will follow in Knotts Grove Church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to the parents, are her brothers, Steven Eugene Hayes Jr. of the home, David Lee Williams of South Hill, Va., Fenton L. Williams Jr. of Milton, Fla.; her sister, Alexis Nicole Hayes of the home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brennan of South Hill, Va.; her paternal grandmother, Peggy Hayes of Oxford; her paternal great-grandmother, Mattie Lillian Johnson of Oxford; and her paternal grandmother, Blanche Boyter of Lacrosse, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Richard H. Thorton Library, P.O. Box 339, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mark A. Fields

RICHMOND, VA. -- Mark A. Fields died recently in Richmond. He was a Warren County native.
Arrangements will be announced later by Harris-Turner Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Carolyn Rice

CLARKSVILLE, VA. -- Carolyn Rose Fossett Rice, 50, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. She was a native of Clarksville and the daughter of Elmo George Fossett of Oxford and the late Patty Seamans.
She was a graduate of Bluestone High School class of 1960. She was a life long member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church. She worked at Lake Apparel for 20 years and had worked at Loftis Appliance more recently.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Union Chapel Baptist Church. The Revs. Grey Lawson and Gene Strickland will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Billy Lewis Rice; a son, Roger Dale Rice of Clarksville; a sister, Ruby F. Thomas of Oxford; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville.

Walter R. Taylor

Surviving are his wife, Bivian Stevens Taylor of the home; one daughter, Jennifer T. Pittman of Wake Forest; one sister, Emily Taylor Gardner of Warrenton; one brother, Joseph Taylor of Ludlow, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

William R. Whittenton Sr.

STATESVILLE -- Mr. William Ransom Whittenton Sr., 90, of 937 Restmore Lane, died Friday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born November 20, 1909 in Johnston County he was a son of the late James William Whittenton and Rena Elizabeth Baucom Whittenton. On June 19, 1936 he married the former Gladys Juanita Stubbs who preceded him in death on February 21, 1984. He was also preceded in death by a son, William R. Whittenton, Jr. on January 28, 1987 and a brother, James Marshall Whittenton formerly of Winston-Salem.
Mr. Whittenton received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina. He taught and coached in the early part of his career in New Bern, Wake Forest and Zebulon high schools. He also worked in the teacher training program at Wake Forest University. He served as a principal in Matthews, Cary, Zebulon, Reidsville and at Aycock School in Vance County. He taught Sunday School for 30 years. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of Statesville Lodge No. 27 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite in Winston-Salem, the Oasis Temple in Charlotte and the Statesville Shrine Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a grandson, William R. (Trey) Whittenton III, of Statesville; a daughter-in-law, Burwell Whittenton of Statesville; and a nephew, James Richard Whittenton and his wife, Phyllis of Clemmons.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Causey, Rev. Tony McDade and Rev. Cecil Herrin officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Statesville Lodge No. 27 A.F. & A.M. and full Masonic Rites will be accorded at the Oakwood cemetery following the service at the church.
The family assembled at the residence of the deceased and received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
For those who prefer, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 815 Davie Ave., Statesville, N.C. 28677 or to the church or charity of the donor’s choice. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Guilford Brown

WARRENTON -- Guilford Brown, 85, of the South Warren community, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Mark A. Fields

RICHMOND, VA. -- Mark A. Fields died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Richmond, Va. He was a Warren County native and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fields.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at Gospel Baptist Church in Richmond by the Rev. Keith Manuel. Burial was in the Greenwood Baptist Church cemetery in Warren County.
Arrangements were by Harris-Turner Funeral Home of Warrenton and Morning Funeral Home of Richmond.

Annie F. Goss

CREEDMOOR -- Annie Forsythe Goss, 82, of 2579 Lyons Station Road, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at her home. She was a Franklin County native, the daughter of the late Sam P. and Callie Taylor Forsythe and the widow of Harvey Goss.
She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and was retired from John Umstead Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Revs. Willis Herman and Chris Huffman. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are a daughter, Yvette Goss Davis of Creedmoor; two grandchildren; three sisters, Lela Green of Roseville, Pauline Barrett of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Evelyn Finch of Bunn, Frances Dugger of Tocoma, Wash.; two brothers, William T. Forsythe of Franklinton and Buddy Forsythe of Roanoke Rapids.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Steven M. Hayes

OXFORD -- Steven Michael Hayes, 16, of 4682 Harper Renn Road, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Duke Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Aug. 18.
He was a native of Durham County and a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford in Oxford with the Rev. Bill Starnes officiating. Burial will be in South Granville Medical Gardens.
Surviving are his father and step-mother, Mike and Cheyenne Allgood Hayes; his mother, Cathy Cates Hayes of Henderson; one sister, April Hayes of Oxford; two half-sisters, Gaby and Holly Acosta; two half-brothers, Jesse and Luke Acosta, all of Henderson; a stepbrother, Levin Scott Daniel of Wake Forest; paternal grandmother, Beatrice Hayes of Oxford; maternal grandparents, Walter and Betsy Cates of Durham.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
Pallbearers will be friends Billy Spain, Michael Humphries, Jason Lunsford, Neil Wood, T.J. DeClue, and Steve Breedlove.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

George C. Hicks Jr.

HENDERSON -- George C. Hicks Jr., 53, of 429 Owen St., died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.
