Claude M. Robinson II
Claude Marshall Robinson, II, age 93, a former resident of the Ruin Creek Road, died Thursday morning in a local nursing home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Claude Marshall Robinson, Sr. and Emma Brame Robinson. He was the widower of Ruth Carter Robinson.
He was retired from Bowers and Burroughs Oil Company where he worked for 30 years, a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon and Elder, member of the Adult Sunday School Class, and Men Of The Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Cam Ford and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara R. Burwell of Oxford; one son, Clyde T. Robinson, Sr., of Henderson; seven grandchildren, C. T. Roberson, Jr., Vickie Ball, Randy Moody, Steve Moody, Scott Burwell, Eugene Burwell, and Kimberly Lester, twelve great-grandchildren, Morgan Roberson, Justin Roberson, Colin Roberson, Randall Ball, Ryan Ball, Jennifer Moody, Christy Moody, David Moody, Cathy Moody White, Tori Burwell, Dustin Burwell, and Jeremy Burwell, two great great grandchildren, Emma Lee Moody, Aaron Moody. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma Frances Moody.
The family received friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they were at the home of Clyde and Virginia Robinson at 1650 Ruin Creek Road.
Serving as active pall bearers were his grandsons and great grandsons.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Harry Watson
NEW JERSEY -- Harry Watson, 55, formerly of New Jersey, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Hillsborough.

Hattie B. Dees
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hattie B. Dees, 67, of 1503 Underwood St. N.W., Washington, D.C., died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000. She was a native of Wake Forest.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur R. Dees Jr.; three sons, Arthur R. Dees III, Michael A. Dees and Reginald J. Dees; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Daly; one sister, Clara M. Evans; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Huntsville Baptist Church, officiated by the R.N. Holloway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Services are being entrusted to Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.
George C. Hicks Jr.
HENDERSON -- George C. Hicks Jr., 53, of 429 Owen St., died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native.
He was a veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson by the Rev. John Durham. Burial will follow in Ilong Baptist Church cemetery in Granville County.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandy F. Adams of Henderson; one sister, Fannie Mae Grooms of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; two brothers, Horace Hicks of Durham and Charles Hicks of the home; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson and at other times at the residence of Sandy F. Adams, 403 Island Creek Estates Road.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.
Lee R. Moore
HENDERSON -- Lee Roy Moore, 78, of 1214 Anne St., Henderson, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Guilford County native and the son of the late Troy Lee and Claudia Dudley Moore.
He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant, with 20 years service. He was a member of City Road United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Danielle A. Kirkland. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Lowry Moore; two daughters, Patricia M. Vaughan of Henderson and Jacqueline M. Goheen of Joplin, Mo.; two sons, Michael L. Moore of Bellevue, Wash., and James L. Moore of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be U.J. Parrott, Thomas Breedlove, George Grissom, Jimmy Adams, Donald Gupton, Charles Chewning, Butch Pridgen and Scott Hughes.

HENDERSON -- Dora Locke Orr, 77, of 568 Wayview Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at her home.

WARRENTON -- Sprig Alston, 84, of Warrenton, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola. The Rev. Will C. Tabron, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie Carter Alston, of the home; five daughters, Joyce Brown and Patricia Richardson, both of Arcola, Christeen Williams of Lickskillett, Della Alston of Warrenton, and Stacey Williams of Norlina; four sons, James of Arcola, Milton of Norlina, Nelson of Arcola, and Tracey of Hollister; and Carrie Conquest, both of Warrenton; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Dora L. Orr
HENDERSON -- Dora Locke Orr, 77, of 568 Wayview Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at her home.
A native of Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Bessie Biggs Locke. She was the widow of Wilbur Wilson Orr.
Mrs. Orr was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse, with more than thirty years at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church, and the Lottie Williams Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., at North Henderson Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Hines Adams, Sr. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are two sons, James W. Orr, and wife, Ersie, of San Antonio, Texas, and David W. Orr, of Henderson; a sister, Kay L. House, of Henderson; a half-brother, Tommy Locke, of Butner, N.C.; two grandchildren, Eric Orr and Sean Orr; and one great-grandchild, Jade Orr.
The family will receive friends this evening, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
The Deacons of North Henderson Baptist Church will serve as active pallbearers.

Gregory D. Short
RALEIGH -- Gregory Davis Short, age 39, a resident of 6644-K Lake Hill Drive, died Tuesday at his home.
He was a native of Wake County, but was reared in Halifax County, and was the son of William and Nancy Davis Short of Laurinburg. He was a 1983 Graduate of N.C. State University. He was employed by WLFL-TV 22 in Raleigh as an Audio Engineer.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John M. Hackworth. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
In addition to his parents, there are no immediate survivors.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his aunt, JoAn Burroughs, at 1579 Graham Ave.

Nettie Walker
NORLINA -- Nettie Packard Vaughan Walker, 82, of Warren Hills Nursing Center, formerly of Norlina, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Community Memorial Healthcenter.
She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Charlie Vaughan and Neta Paschall Vaughan.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Blaylock Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Wood Wilson Walker; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Guilford Brown
WARRENTON -- Guilford Brown, 85, of the South Warren community, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church. The Dr. A.A. Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Brown Family cemetery in Warrenton.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Jones Brown of the home; two daughters, Sandra Lee Wheeler of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Shelia Ann Brown of Warrenton; one son, Guilford Carl Brown of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.
Zola R. Peoples
NORLINA -- Zola Rooker Peoples, 80, of Norlina, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Warren Hills Nursing Center. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of Lawrence Rooker and Jannie Cook Rooker.
She was a member of the Norlina Baptist Church where she was involved in the Lola C. Circle. She retired from Peck Manufacturing Company and was the widow of James Peoples.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Norlina Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley P. Weaver of Norlina and Alvis Peoples of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Kathleen Baugh of Norlina; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Norlina Baptist Church or to the Alzheimers Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Mahaley R. Vaughn
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Mahaley R. Vaughn, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000.
A native of Henderson, N.C., daughter of the late Edward German and Willie Mitt Ramsey, she had been a Peninsula resident for 43 years. She retired, as a nurse, from Eastern State Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Phillip D. Vaughn and his fiancee, Debra Bradford of Hampton; her daughter, Lessa Bradford, also of Hampton and two nieces, Tony Ross and her husband of Charlotte, N.C., Don and Patricia and her husband, Ted Mazzu of Tampa, Fla.
A memorial service will be conducted 5 PM Saturday, Aug. 26 in the Peninsula Funeral Home with the Dr. R. Furman Kenney officiating.

Annie Adcock
OXFORD — Annie Laurie Murray Adcock, 81, of 307 Delacroix St., died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at her home. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late Andrew and Lelia Tuck Murray and the widow of Robert D. Adcock Sr.
She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, worked at Ideal Fastner for many years and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Robert Baynard. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Robert D. “Buster” Adcock Jr. of Oxford; four daughters, Ila Mae A. Mathews, Lucy Marie A. Woodlief, Virginia A. Vaughan and Carolyn A. Williamson, all of Oxford; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

Gregory D. Short
RALEIGH — Funeral services for Gregory D. Short, age 39, son of William and Nacny Davis Short of Laurinburg, were held Friday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Short was an Audio Engineer at WLFL-TV 22 in Raleigh.

Evelyn D. Debnam
HENDERSON — Evelyn Davis Debnam, 87, of 131 Welcome Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Miles and Amanda Davis.
She worked many years at J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company. She joined Welcome Chapel Baptist Church at an early age, where she was the president of the Missionary Circle, member of the senior choir and head deaconess.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Welcome Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. William Brodie. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Leon Durham of the home; two daughters, Mary Debnam and Lelia Siplen, both of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be on view at the funeral home until taken to the church one hour before the service.
