Glenn T. Brinkley

CREEDMOOR -- Glenn Thurman Brinkley, 85, of 4525 Old Weaver Trail, Northside community, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. He was a Wake County native and the son of the late James A. and Leoma Starnes Brinkley.
He was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church and was a retired farmer and business man.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Hollowell. Entombment will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ellen Mcalister Brinkley of the home; two daughters, Leoma B. Britt of Greensboro and LeMerle Brinkley of New York, N.Y.; two sons, Glenn T. Brinkley II of Durham, Leslie O. Brinkley of Creedmoor; a sister, Marie Keith Whitaker of Creedmoor; and seven grandchildren.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Olive Grove Baptist Church, 3024 Olive Grove Church Road, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.

Catharine C. Brown

OXFORD -- Catharine Crews Brown, 92, of 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Presbyterian Wesley Care Center in Charlotte.
She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Charles F. and Carrie Hunt Crews. She was the widow of Rev. C. D. Brown.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Salem United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Anne Sims. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Anne Brown Johnson of Greensboro and Ruth Delane Brown of Morganton.
Arrangements are by Gentry Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Darryl A. Eaton

OXFORD -- Mr. Darryl Alexander Eaton, 39, of 346 Henderson St., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Duke Medical Center.
He was a native of Granville County.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Eaton of the home; three daughters, Charmane Burchette of the home, Cornelia Eaton and Marie Eaton, both of Butner, N.C.; mother and father, Sandra Allie of Baltimore, Md., and Taft Eaton of Creedmoor, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Belton Creek Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverend Anthony Cozart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Elson Floyd

HENDERSON -- Elson Floyd, 69, of 405 High St., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Senior Citizen Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Rosetta D. Hoyle

HENDERSON -- Rosetta Pendergrass Dickerson Hoyle, age 90, a resident of 1001 Bane Avenue died Monday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Dorothy D. Martin at 699 Mabry Mill Road.
Other funeral arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Ida W. Hunt

OXFORD -- Ida Wyche Hunt, 96, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Senior Citizens Home of Henderson. She was a Granville County native.
She was a member of the Union A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilton.
Surviving are one daughter, Dora Perry McCrea of Creedmoor; one sister, Mary Lizzie Fuller of Passaic, N.J.; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Union A.M.E. Zion Church, officiated by the Rev. J. D. Ray. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Henry Palmer

OXFORD -- Henry Palmer, 81, of 226 W. College St., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Eleanor W. Robinson

HENDERSON -- Eleanor Watkins Robinson, age 58, a resident of 1882 Ruin Creek Road, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in her home. She was a native of Warren County and was the daughter of Agnes Harris Deady of Henderson and the late Barker Watkins, Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class of which she served as its Treasurer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Steve Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by: her husband, Danny A. Robinson, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly R. Carey and Dana R. Parham, both of Oxford; three sisters, Betty Jean W. Pegram, of South Hill, Virginia, Ellen W. Chandler and Ferebee W. Reavis, both of Henderson; two brothers, Barker Watkins, Jr. of Henderson, and Foster Watkins of Raleigh; and one granddaughter, Brittany M. Coghill.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert F. Watkins.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 1882 Ruin Creek Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be men of the church, Joe O’Brien, Gerald Robinson, Edgar Parham, Cliff Reavis, John Price, Ron Noel, Irvin Robinson, Jr., Clyde Robinson, Jerry Williams and Herman Tingen.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrews
Presbyterian Church Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Lucy Longmire, 2941 Glebe Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

John A. Smith

OXFORD -- John Albert Smith, 89, of 7077 Hwy. 15 North, Oxford, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.
He was a barber and a retired worker from Murdoch Center in Butner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hardy Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Spotwood Burwell. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are six sisters, Tazzie Fields, Cora Thelma Smith, Esther Scott, all of Oxford, Barbara Smith of Burlington, N.J., and Ruby Thomas of Laurinburg; and two brothers, Archie McKever Smith and Donnell Smith, both of Oxford.
There will be a walk-in viewing today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Allen’s Home of Funerals Inc. and at other times at the home.

Dr. Joseph P. Waddell

BAINBRIDGE, GA. -- Dr. Joseph Parham Waddell, 80, of 1233 Lake Douglas Road, Bainbridge, Ga., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Lillington.
He was a member of Bainbridge Church of Christ, a chiropractor and a minister. He retired in 1996. He graduated cum laude from the National College of Chiropractic, received a P.H.D. in nutrition, was past president of the Bainbridge Lion’s Club and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Church of Christ in Bainbridge, Ga., by Minister Paul Savage and Minister Tim Mahler. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens of Bainbridge, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Smith, Royce Whittington, Lester Gatlin, Don Kell, Frank Allen, Leon Bowman, Johnny Dasher and Monroe Godwin.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie Ella Waddell of Bainbridge, Ga.; one son, William James Waddell of Bainbridge, Ga.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cox Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Church of Christ, P.O. Box 366, Bainbridge, Ga. 31718.
Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home of Bainbridge, Ga.

Michael Robert Alger

Michael Robert Alger, age 47, a resident of 150 Coventry Lane, died Friday at his home.
He was a native of Onondaga County, N.Y. He was the son of Dona Bortles Alger of Henderson and the late Will Alger.
He was a veteran of the Army and was stationed in Germany. He lived in St. Petersburg, Fla. before moving to Henderson. He worked as a roofer.
No services are planned.
Local arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home.

Carolyn Brock

LYNN HAVEN, FLA. — Carolyn Paige Gooch Brock, 56, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at her home. She was a native of Henderson.
She was raised in Greenville and lived in Selma, Ala., for four years before moving to Panama City in 1976. She was Methodist by faith and a member of the Panama City Bridge Club.
Surviving are her husband, Rommie H. Brock of Lynn Haven, Fla.; her mother, Willie Gooch of Henderson; one daughter, Catherine Brock of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Richard Brock of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Chris Brock of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one brother, Richard Gooch of Henderson; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel by Steve Southerland II. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Charlie Crews

OXFORD — Charlie Crews, 81, of 19 Juniper Place, Ammittyville, N.Y., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000.
Surviving are his wife, Kittie Taylor Crews of the home; one daughter, Louise Terry of Co-Op City, Bronx, N.Y.; three brothers, Nathaniel Crews of Amittyville, N.Y., George Crews of Philadelphia, Pa., and Doc Crews of Gordonville, Va.; six grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stovall Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Taylor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held Friday at Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Cora H. Hawkins

WARRENTON — Cora Harris Hawkins, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Taylor Christopher Houck

RALEIGH — Taylor Christopher Houck, infant twin son of Allen William Houck and April Caroline Hill Houck, died Monday, September 4, 2000 at Wake Medical Center. Taylor was born August 17, 2000 at Wake Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2000, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at New Knightdale Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his parents are twin brother, Spencer Gray Houck; sister, Alyssa Paige Jackson; maternal grandparents, Nancy and Johnny Eckard of DeLand, Florida, Jimmie and Diane Hill of Henderson, and Fern Hill of Wendell; and paternal grandparents, Edward and Ramona Houck of Millington, New Jersey.

Mary H. Lorenz

WISE — Mary Hotzmann Lorenz, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced later by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James Mitchner

HENDERSON — James Mitchner, 84, of 755 Southerland St., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late William and Onnie Stevenson Mitchner.
He farmed for many years.
He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Warren County where he worked in many capacities until his health declined.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. A. A. Brown. Interment will be in the Red Bud Baptist Church cemetery. The body may be viewed until the hour of the services.
Surviving are his wife, Cleo Mitchner of the home; two daughters, Betty Mitchner and Brenda Wardrett, both of Henderson; one sister, Mary Alston; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 755 Southerland St., Henderson.
Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home.

William D. Nowell

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — William Dennis Nowell died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a native of Townsville and the son of Sally and Daniel Nowell.
At the age of 20, he served in the U.S. Army where he played basketball and received an honorable discharge.
He went to New York in 1988 and became a dental technician at North General Hospital for 10 years. He later created his own surgical supply business.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, include his stepmother, Whilhemina of Henderson; his wife, Patricia Nowell; son, André; daughters, Kamilah and Kristah; two brothers, James Hill and Elvis Nowell, both of North Carolina; and five sisters, Frances Small, Shirley Nowell, and Karen Seward, all of New York, Teresa Thomas and Gloria Briton, both of North Carolina.
Services were held at 5 p.m. Friday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Local arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Henry Palmer

OXFORD — Henry Palmer, 81, of 226 W. College St., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late John Palmer and Mattie Meadows Palmer.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Surviving are three daughters, Elouise P. Gillis, Nancy P. Terry, both of Oxford and Henrietta Palmer of Roxbury, N.J.; one sister, Ella P. Burgans of the home; one brother, Lee Palmer of Oxford; three grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Betts Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Adolphus Smith. Burial will follow in the Meadowview Memorial Park.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at Betts & Son Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home, Oxford.

John A. Smith
