LOUISBURG — Ronald Solomon West, 64, of Louisburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Britthaven of Louisburg.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at White Level Baptist Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Ronnie D. West.
Surviving are one daughter, Katherine W. Fuller of Louisburg; two sons, Rev. Ronnie D. West of Kembridge, Va., and Kenneth W. West of Louisburg; one sister, Maxine Gilliam of Louisburg; one brother, Glenn West of Louisburg; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Katherine and Mike Fuller, 391 Wilson-Fuller Road, Louisburg, at all times.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Franklin County American Cancer Society, c/o Nannie Wrenn, memorials chairperson, 748 N.C. 561 Hwy. Louisburg, N.C. 27549.
Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral Home, 804 N. Bickette Boulevard, Louisburg, N.C. 27549.

Pherbia White

CREEDMOOR — Pherbia White, 96, of 904 Main St., Creedmoor, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Allen’s Home of Funerals Inc. of Oxford.

Clarence Yates 'C.Y.' Harris

HENDERSON — Clarence Yates "C.Y." Harris, Jr., age 68, a resident of 4441 Glebe Rd. died Wednesday morning. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of Norma Wade Harris of Henderson and the late Clarence Yates Harris, Sr.. He was a retired electrical contractor and farmer. Mr. Harris was a member of the Island Creek Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Cam Ford, Rev. Betty Connette and Rev. Johnson Gupton. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Alice Jean Brewer Harris, one daughter Eugenia Harris Leggett and husband Calvin of Raleigh, one granddaughter Lydia Elaine Leggett and one sister Lucille Harris Nutt of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Glebe Rd.
Serving as active Pall Bearers will be: David Grissom, D. K. Harris, Chris Brewer, Dave Norwood, Ray Davis, Jessie Stem, and Chris Curl.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

Lucy P. Bullock

HENDERSON -- Lucy Perry Bullock, 79, of Rt. 1, Manson, died Wednesday, September 6, 2000, in Warren Hills Nursing Home in Warrenton.
Born in Warren County, she was the daughter of the late James Hope and Fannie Neblett Bullock.
Miss Bullock was a secretary with the United States Government, at the Pentagon, in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Young Memorial Presbyterian Church.
A graveside funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m., in Young Memorial Presbyterian Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Steve Edwards.
Surviving are a brother, Norman N. Bullock, of Warrenton; a niece, Meredith B. Harris, of Reidsville, N.C.; and two nephews, Norman N. Bullock Jr., of Raleigh, and John W. Bullock, of Warrenton.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Cora H. Hawkins

WARRENTON -- Cora Harris Hawkins, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at All Saints Episcopal Church in Warrenton. The Rev. Marvin Aycock will officiate, assisted by Dr. George C. Debnam. Burial will follow in the Sunset Gardens in Henderson.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Harris Powell of Warrenton and Carrboro; and one brother, Dr. Oswald Harris.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Bertha D. Hargrove

WARRENTON -- Bertha Davis Hargrove, 81, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at the Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooks Chapel Baptist Church in Warren Plains. The Rev. Joseph Cook, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, James Edward Hargrove of Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg; one daughter, Mary Ann Hunt of Wise; one son, Edward Darnell Hargrove of Warren Plains; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Davis, John Allen Davis, both of Warrenton, and Robert Davis of Louisburg; and three sisters, Cleo, of Baltimore, Md., Fannie of Orange, N.J., and Carrie Bell of Oxford Manor Nursing Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Mary H. Lorenze

WISE -- Mary Holtzmann Lorenze, 88, of U.S. #1 North, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Philip Holtzmann and Maria Saemann Lorenze.
She was owner/operator of Lorenze Boxwood Nursery and Lorenze Antiques. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the widow of Carl A. Lorenze.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Lorenze of Graham; one son, Erich Lorenze of Cedar Hill, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Gertrude S. Weary

OXFORD -- Gertrude “ Trudy” Strickland Weary, 73, of 1213 Club Pond Road, Henderson, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Coy and Dorothy Ward Strickland and the widow of Jessie H. Weary.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a retired waitress.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Revs. Cecil Newton and Keith Robertson. Burial will be held in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Jessie Lemar Weary, 3769 Old County Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home Inc.

Henry Williams Jr.

GAITHERSBURG, MD. -- Henry Williams Jr., 59, of 406 N. Summit Ave., Gaithersburg, Md., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Henry Williams Sr. and Queen Esther Solomon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel W. Lilly Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth D. Williams; two sons, David H. Williams of Gaithersburg, Md., and Tyrone Williams of Knottsville, Tenn.; two daughters, Betty Jean Williams of Louisburg and Gloria D. Williams of Silver Springs, Md.; 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Queen Williams, Shirley Venable, Mary Ruth Higgs, all of Henderson, Betty Branch of Louisburg; and two brothers, Charlie Thomas Williams of Mt. Airy, Md., Robert Williams of Henderson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at 18 Branch Dr. in Louisburg.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Earl Fogg, Maxie Daniels, James Davis, Joel Branch, Johnnie Branch and Maxie Fennell.
Floralbearers will be Julia Solomon, Annette Branch, Clara Branch, Detrise Williams, Shirley Branch, Dora Ann Perry, Annie Marie Williams, and Juanita Brodie.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc. of Henderson.

Benjamin Allen ‘Ben’ Brame

HENDERSON -- Benjamin Allen “Ben” Brame, age 77, a resident of 406 Willowood Drive, died Friday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Edward Clarence and Ferrell Wilson Brame. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Navy, and was a member of the West End Baptist Church and the Jimmy Pulliam Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the West End Baptist Church by Dr. Richard Walker. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Harper Brame, of the home; two daughters, Carolyn B. Dickerson and husband, Bill, of Hope Mills, North Carolina and Susan B. Hart and husband, Robert, of Knightdale, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Angie Dickerson, Preston Dickerson, Ashley Dickerson, Stephanie Sheets and Brandon Hart; four great-grandchildren: Brittany Dickerson, Blake Dickerson, Summer Dickerson and Amber Dickerson; one sister, Louise B. Bradsher of Henderson; and three brothers, Alvin Brame, Melvin Brame and Sidney Brame, all of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 P.M. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers are Jimmy Ayscue, R.H. Ayscue, Glen Brame, Arron Daughtery, Bob Flowers, John Franklin, Perry Currin, Braxton Poythress, Perry Foster, L.E. Tuten and Dale Poythress.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West End Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Edgar Marvin Edwards

HENDERSON -- Edgar Marvin Edwards, age 79, a resident of 183 Thorpe Street, died Thursday night at his home. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Enoch Marvin and Rebecca Tillotson Edwards.
He was the widower of Evelyn Knight Edwards. He was a World War II Veteran who served in the Air Force and was the School Finance Officer in Vance County for 34 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was also a former member and secretary of the Henderson Golden K and was Golden K Kiwanian of the year in 1984-1985 and 1985-1986. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chuck Cook. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife Fleeta Wood Edwards of the home; three daughters, Ruth E. Tapson and husband Gregg, Rachel E. Hedrick and husband Vic, all of Henderson, and Rebecca Edwards of Mocksville, North Carolina; and one stepson Edwin Nelson Wood and wife Regina of Manila, Philippines; Four grandchildren Amy Swisher, Christine R. Williamson, Evelyn G. Hedrick and Brad V. Hedrick; and one great-grandchild David C. Williamson.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers are Gregg Tapson, Vic Hedrick, Frank Reich, Brad Hedrick, Kenny Swisher, David Williamson, John Rainey and Ray Patterson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Class.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Jesse L. Gay

MIDDLEBURG -- Jesse Lee Gay, 66, of Middleburg, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. He was the son of Silas Frederick and Dollie Taylor Gay.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Alvin and Frances May, 240 E.O. Young Road in Middleburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Middleburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Burial will follow at Red Oak cemetery in Nash County.
Surviving is one sister, Mary Gay Collins of Castalia.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

William R. Hock

KITTRELL -- William Royal “Roy” Hock, 60, of 89 Hocks Way, Kittrell, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at his home.
Arrangements will be announced later by Flowers Funeral Home.

HENDERSON -- The Rev. O’Kelly Lawson, of 403 W. Rock Spring St., died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Trayburn Hospice Center in Hillsborough.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Thomas W. Overby

OXFORD -- Thomas W. Overby, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Morristown, N.J. He was a Granville County native.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Downey of Morristown, N.J.; three sons, Glenn Overby, of Morristown, N.J., Marvin T. Nevels and John T. Hutcherton, both of Oxford; one brother, Louis Overby of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Laura Henderson of Henderson; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Nevels, 402 Person St.

Charles R. Pendergrass

WILTON -- Charles Richard Pendergrass, 67, of 2895 Grove Hill Road, Franklinton, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
He was a retired textile mechanic and a native of Gaston County. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Meadowview Memorial Park by the Rev. Diane M.C. Blanchard.
Surviving are three daughters, Lisa P. Englebright of Oxford, Wanda P. Jenkins of Memphis, Tenn., and Pamala P. Aikens of Franklinton; two sons, Robert R. Pendergrass of Franklinton and Charles R. Pendergrass Jr. of Creedmoor; one sister, Juanita P. Jackson of Daytona Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Robert & Pam Pendergrass, 4051 Grove Hill Road.

Weary of Henderson, Leman H. Weary and David E. Weary, both of Warrenton; 33 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Jessie Lemar Weary, 3769 Old County Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

S. Carlyle Wright

HENDERSON -- Seba Carlyle Wright, 93, of 210 Redbud Drive, Henderson, died Thursday, September 7, 2000 in a local nursing home.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late George Seba and Florence Greenway Wright.
Mr. Wright was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a former Vice-President and City Manager with Citizens Bank, and Nations Bank. After retiring, he acted as a consultant, and served on the Board of Directors at Standard Motor Parts of Henderson, and served on the Board of Directors for Investment Management Company. A member of First Baptist Church, he was a former Deacon, served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, and was Secretary of the Collum Association of Southern Baptist Churches. He also served in many civic areas of the community, including serving as president of the Henderson Lions Club, chairman of the Board of the Salvation Army, and chaired the United Way Fund Drive.
A graveside funeral service will be held today, at 11 a.m., in Sunset Gardens, conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Turner Wright; a sister, Virginia W. Finch, of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie W. Hickson; and two brothers, Lathan Wright and Lyman Wright.
The family will receive friends at the home on 210 Redbud Drive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 75, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
