Fred Clifton ‘F.C.’ Boyd Jr.
STOVALL -- Fred Clifton “F.C.” Boyd Jr., 79, of 105 Cedar Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.
He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Fred C. Boyd Sr. and Hettie Currin Boyd. He was a member of Stovall Baptist Church, former chief of Stovall Fire Department, former member of North Granville E.M.S., former Stovall town commissioner, and Army veteran of World War II, member of Oxford Lodge No. 122, Oxford York Rite Bodies, a member of Amran Temple of the Shrine, and was retired as a former owner of Williams-Breedlove Clothing Store.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. today at Stovall Baptist Church by the Rev. George Custer. Burial will be in Stovall Memorial cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Cutts Boyd; a son, Marion C. “Poogie” Boyd of Stovall.
Omission of flowers is requested and contributions may be made to the Stovall Beautification Project, c/o Town of Stovall, Janice C. Parrott, Mayor, Stovall, N.C. 27582, and Stovall Baptist Church Youth Program, c/o Rev. George Custer, P.O. Box 188, Stovall, N.C. 27582.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the home.

WARRENTON -- Jean Clayton, of 433 Eaton Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.

William R. Hock
HENDERSON -- William Royal “Roy” Hock, 60, of 89 Hock’s Way, Kittrell, departed this life, Friday, September 8, 2000 at his home.
Born in Franklin County, he was the son of Robert Lacy and Annie Laura Strother Hock of Kittrell.
Mr. Hock was retired after more than thirty years at Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. He was a member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, and the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11 a.m., in Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. William E. “Bud” Budzinski. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Debbie Kearney Hock; two daughters, Rose Marie H. Tart, and husband, Milton, of Kittrell, and Rhonda H. Cleaton, of Henderson; a son, Joshua Robert Hock, of the home; a step-daughter, Kelly R. Layton, and husband, Ben, of Henderson; a step-son, Michael D. Russell, and wife, Mandy, of Kittrell; three brothers, Maurice L. Hock, of Franklinton, Robert E. Hock, of Bradenton, Florida, and Conrad Hock, of Kittrell; and eight grandchildren, Christie Dawn Tart, Cpl. Kevin Wayne Tart, April Dawn Williams, Justin Lee Setzer, Amanda Layton, Sarah Layton, Matthew Russell, and McKayla Russell.
The family will receive friends this evening, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Sam Brummitt, Michael Russell, Ben Layton Jr., Steven Hock, Cpl. Kevin W. Tart, Richard Moss, Bobby Gupton, and Thomas Wilder.

WINSTON-SALEM -- Franklin Winston Kelly died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Rehabilitation Health Care Center in Winston-Salem. He was a Vance County native.

Margie Bunn Lockemy
HENDERSON -- Margie Bunn Lockemy, age 74, a resident of 2275 Ruin Creek Road, died Saturday in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Wake County and was the daughter of the late Clem Howell and Katheline Perry Bunn.
She is survived by: daughter Janice L. Spratley of LaCrosse Va.; one son, Aubrey Benjamin Lockemy Jr., of Squamtum, Mass.; one sister, Maxine R. Faulkner of Charleston, S.C., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated and no services are planned.
Jean H. Clayton
WARRENTON -- Jean House Clayton, 69, of Eaton Avenue, Warrenton, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of Maurice Clifton and Lois Loyd House.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Warrenton Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Brooks. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery in Warrenton.
Surviving are her husband, Eddie Q. Clayton Jr. of Warrenton; one daughter, Bonnie Clayton Andrews of Warrenton; one son, Eddie Q. Clayton III of Warrenton; one sister, Shirley H. Twisdale of Warrenton; and five grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Dr. Junious D. Douglas Jr.
HENDERSON -- Dr. Junious Daniel Douglas Jr., 90, of 2890 Highway 39 North, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Ophelia R. Gibbons
CREEDMOOR -- Ophelia Roberson Gibbons, 72, a former resident of 629 Oak Leaf Circle, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Durham Regional Hospital. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Jessie and Nellie Davis Roberson. She was of the Methodist faith and was a retired salesperson.
Memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Eddie Mauldin.
Surviving are three brothers, Lester W. Roberson of Oxford, James M. Roberson and Bob W. Roberson, both of Butner.
Omission of flowers is requested and contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3500 Westgate Drive, Suite 201, Durham, N.C. 27707.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today prior to the memorial service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Mary T. Glover
OXFORD -- Mary Taylor Glover, 93, of 7643 Mountain Road, Stovall, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the Granville Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late Willie E. Taylor and Jennie Downey Taylor. She also was a member of the Stovall First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Hurbert Bullock and John Bullock, both of the home; one sister, Isabel T. Davis of Stovall.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Stovall First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Terry Taylor. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

Ernestine H. Miller
AHOSKIE, N.C. -- Ernestine Hayes Miller, 88, a resident of Berne Village in New Bern, N.C. died Monday, September 11, 2000. Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Meredith College, and was a life long member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where she was active in the youth ministry, and a native of Ahoskie, N.C.
Mrs. Miller is survived by three sons, Dr. Fred A. Miller and wife Irond, New Bern, N.C., Barry B. Miller and wife Gail, Ahoskie, N.C., Robert A. Miller and wife Ginger, Henderson, N.C.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Fred A. Miller; her parents, Ernest and Vara Hayes; a brother Alton; and a grandson Robert Gray Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted at Garrett Funeral Home Ahoskie, N.C. at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2000, with Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom officiating. Interment will follow in Ahoskie cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the interment at Ahoskie cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to University Health Care Systems Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910. Family will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to service.

Janie K. Rivers
WARRENTON -- Janie Kimball Rivers, 82, of Warrenton, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Thollie D. and Mary Leigh “Mollie” Kimball, and the widow of James L. Rivers.
She was a member of Warren Plains Baptist Church and the WMU.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Warren Plains Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Joyner . Interment will follow in the Wise cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia R. Spears of Laurinburg; three sons, Dr. Lawrence D. Rivers of Raleigh, Jimmy H. Rivers of Wake Forest and Ronald E. Rivers of Warrenton; four brothers, George Kimball of Davidson, Harold Kimball of Taylorsville, S.C., Boyce Kimball of Durham, and Luther Kimball of Victoria, Va.; one sister, Elsie K. Harwood of Mt. Gilead; and eight grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Warren Plains Baptist Church Building Fund.

Dr. Junius D. Douglas Jr.
HENDERSON -- Dr. Junius Daniel Douglas Jr., 90, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital following a sudden illness. He was a Edgecomb County native and the son of the late Dr. Junius D. and Lucy Hines Douglas Sr.
At an early age, he joined and attended the St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Rocky Mount and was educated in the Edgecomb County Public Schools.
He moved to Washington, D.C., to further his education, graduating from Howard University School of Pharmacy. He came to Henderson and worked with his father as a pharmacist for several years at Douglas Drug Store located on Horner Street before its closing. He then returned to Washington, D.C., and worked with the U.S. Treasury Department for 27 years before retiring in 1985 and moving back to Henderson. He later joined the Brookston Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until death.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Reavis Douglas of the home; one daughter, Elaine Douglas Rajasekera of Henderson; three sons, Ronald Douglas of Charlotte, Junius Douglas III of Raleigh, and Alphonso Douglas of Henderson; one sister, Melba Douglas of Henderson; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Brookston Baptist Church cemetery with Dr. Richard Henderson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service and other times at the home, 2890 N.C. Highway 39 North.

HENDERSON -- Irene Hargrove, 45, of 502 Stone St., died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.

HENDERSON -- Mary R. “Maggie” Hedgepeth, 85, of Cherry Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Hospice House in Winston-Salem.

Rev. O’Kelly Lawson
HENDERSON -- The Rev. O’Kelly Lawson, of 403 W. Rock Spring St., died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Triangle Hospice of the Meadowlands in Hillsborough.
He was a native of Person County. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Shaw University with a degree in philosophy and religion, and a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
He was a former pastor of Penn Avenue Baptist Church of Oxford, Sandy Grove Baptist Church of Lumberton, Ebenezer Baptist Church of Wilmington, Cornerstone Baptist Church of Greenville, First Baptist Church of Reidsville, and was most recently the pastor of Ilong Baptist Church in Granville County. His professional achievements were many: president of County Line Union, 1962-66; moderator of Reedy Creek Baptist Association, 1963-66; vise-moderator of East Cedar Grove Association, 1964-66; member of the General Board of General Baptist Convention of North Carolina, 1962-present; contributing editor of Progressive Baptist Hymnal (first edition 1976); president of the Southern Region of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc.; president of Sickle Cell Syndrome Association of North Carolina, 1976-77.
He received the Man of the Year Award, Lumberton Civic Association, 1969, was a member of the Congressional Democratic Committee, 1970, Human Relations Commission of Wilmington, and chairman of its Housing Committee, 1971-74. He was an incorporator and secretary-treasurer of Lumber River Housing Development, 1969-70, guest lecturer in Graduate Social Work Program, East Carolina University, and at University of North Carolina at Wilmington, 1971-73, guest speaker for Ecumenical Christmas Celebration, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., 1973. He was a former instructor in the Department of Continuing Education at Shaw University in Raleigh, and was a licensed mortician.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial was held in Lawson Chapel Baptist Church cemetery in Person County.
Surviving are his wife, Johnsy Terry Lawson; and one daughter, Laurel Lawson of Greensboro.
The family received visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.

MANSON -- Edna Terry Russell, 71, of 1743 Bullocksville Park Road, Manson, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Fort Washington, Md.

NORLINA -- Teola Mae Williams, 84, of Norlina, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.

FLETCHER — Stephanie Elizabeth Best, 9, of 6 Candor Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in an Asheville hospital. She was the daughter of Anthony Best and Ann House Best and was a member of The Rock in Asheville.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Alexandra Best of the home; two brothers, Harrison and Bradley Best, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Patricia and Danny House of Fletcher; maternal great-grandmother, Grace Wheeler of Henderson; paternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Best of Shallotte; and paternal great-grandmother, Edith Calhoun of Whiteville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at The Rock of Asheville with the Rev. Kirk Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.

WINSTON-SALEM — Mary Roberson "Maggie" Hedgepeth, age 85, a resident of 1050 Wendover Circle, and a former resident of 224 Cherry St. in Henderson, died Tuesday at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Artelia Stanton Roberson. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a former employee of the former Village Gate Clothing Store in Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. John Simons. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Hedgepeth, of the home; one daughter, Susan M. White, of Winston-Salem; one brother, the Rev. Lemuel Gibbons Roberson, of Charleston, S. C.; one sister, Gilda Gray R. Leonard, of Henderson; four grandchildren; and five great grand-children.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Parrish Hall of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Charles Sellars, Brian Sellars, Chris Boss, Sam Gray,
Monte White, Robert Strange, Russell Haithcock, and Billy Davidson.
