Wallace T. White

HENDERSON -- Wallace Thomas White, 84, of 1010 Dabney Drive, Henderson, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Simon D. and Cora Wilson White.
He worked for the former Corbitt Company, beginning in the mid-thirties, and was president of that company from 1956 to 1964. At that time, he relocated to Franklin, Virginia, and was associated with Franklin Equipment Company until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 AF&AM.
Memorial services will be held at noon Tuesday at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Cook. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Irma Rainey White; two sons, Leonard W. “Len” White of Raleigh and John L. White of Virginia Beach, Va.; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Robert Champion

WARREN COUNTY -- Robert Champion, 77, formerly of Warren County, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Veterans New York Harbor Health Care Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Jones Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. John R. Pugh. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Flonnie Dixon Champion of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, Robert E. Champion Jr. of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; two daughters, Louise Kingsberry of Maryland and Linda Jean Champion of Far Rockaway; one stepdaughter, Shanique Speight; seven grandchildren; and one step-grandson; three sisters, Annie Pugh, Esther Holman, and Rosabell Davis; and one brother, Joseph Champion.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton and Gilmore’s Funeral Home in Brooklyn, N.Y.

LaRue M. Breedlove

OXFORD -- LaRue Mangum Breedlove died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Brantwood Nursing Center. She was a native of Creedmoor and the widow of Roy W. Breedlove.
She was a graduate of East Carolina University and was a retired teacher with Granville County Public Schools at Berea School. She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, a former member of the Morning Circle, the Alter Guild and Choir. She was also a member of the John Penn Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for which she had served as regent.
Surviving are one daughter, JoAnna Breedlove McDaniel of Oxford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Elmwood cemetery in Oxford by the Rev. Donnie Brown of Creedmoor Baptist Church.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Steve McDaniel, 4178 Indian Trail, Oxford.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.

Derry Coles

HENDERSON -- Derry Coles, 87, of Henderson, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

D. Carlton Flowers

HENDERSON -- Daniel Carlton Flowers, 77, of 1833 Oxford Road, Henderson, died Sunday, September 17, 2000, at his residence.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Daniel Boone and Caddie Whitaker Flowers.
Mr. Flowers was owner and manager of Flowers Funeral Home. He began his career in 1941 with the former Kesler Funeral Home and bought the business in 1971. He was a graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Epsom Lions Club.
He was a lifelong member of City Road United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Danielle Kirkland and the Dr. J. Donald Phillips. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Dickerson Flowers; a son, Daniel Wayne “Danny” Flowers, and wife, Jill, of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Mandy F. Morris, Boone Flowers, John Flowers, and James Flowers; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Morris, and Hannah Morris; and a sister, Louise F. Renn, of Henderson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret F. Seaman.
The family will receive friends today, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ray Ranes, W.L. Harris, Stan Scruggs, Dr. Sam Fox, Jimmy Ellington, Randolph Reese, Raymond Simmons, Steve Moss, Jimmy Adams, Robert Matthews, Davis Hale, Larry Roberts and Lowell Smith Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Epsom Lions Club.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to City Road United Methodist Church, c/o Allene Brummitt, P.O. Box 1212, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

James H. Hargrove

MANSON -- James Harold Hargrove, of Manson, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. He was the son of Verlina Hargrove and the late Harold Hargrove.
He attended the Vance County Public Schools, was a 1969 graduate of Henderson Institute, and was employed as a professional brick mason for over 20 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ by the Revs. W.F. Wright and Zelton Alston. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Narcissus Hargrove; three grandchildren; his mother, Verlina Hargrove; three sisters, Augusta Olatidoye of Atlanta, Ga., Diane H. Jones and Narcissus H. Wright of Greensboro; three brothers, Algie Rollins, Calvin Hargrove and Jimmie Hargrove, all of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Jerry Ingram

WARRENTON -- Jerry Ingram, 58, of the Embro community, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

William Lloyd Jones

HENDERSON -- William Lloyd "Bill" Jones age 56, a resident of 1204 Shirley Dr., died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at his home.
He was a native of Richmond, Va., and was the son of the late Thomas W. and Helen Miller Jones. He was medically retired from Iams and attended the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy W. Jones, of the home; two sons, William Louis Simon, of Richmond, Va., and Christopher Dennis Jones of Shippensburg, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Candice Faith Winters, of the home; one brother, Thomas W. Jones, of Richmond, Va., and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Alan Lassiter, George Fuller, Mike Pernell, Jerry Patterson, Ronnie Sumners, Alan Tart, Bob Smith, and Robert Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2286, Henderson, N.C., 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Mary Oakley

CREEDMOOR -- Mary Helen Miller Oakley, 51, of 1676 Will Suitt Road, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late William Henry Miller Sr. She was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Revs. Bill Starnes and Terry Hall. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Archie Lee “Buck” Oakley of the home; her mother, Mary Lizzie Miller of Oxford; three daughters, Penny Leigh Oakley of Creedmoor, Helen O. Thorpe, Tina O. Lane, both of Oxford; four sisters, Jean Hawley and Wanda Nay, both of Oxford, Margaret Taylor of Montclair, N.J., Linda West of Henderson; four brothers, William H. Miller Jr. and Danny Ray Miller, both of Oxford, John Allen Miller of Timberlake, Marshall Miller of Bennettsville, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Lucy R. Paschall

FAYETTEVILLE -- Lucy Reid Paschall, of 618 Maxine St., Fayetteville, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center of Fayetteville. She was the widow of the late Calvin “C.C.” Paschall, who was principal of the former Kittrell Graded School for many years.
Arrangements will be announced later by Williams Funeral Home of Henderson.

Margueritte P. Pruitt

OXFORD -- Margueritte Pannell Pruitt, 78, of 307 Main St., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home. She was a native of Orange County, Va., and the daughter of the late Frances and E. Clay Pannell.
She was a graduate of Mitchell High School, did post graduate work there, graduated from University of Maryland’s School of Nursing, working there until her marriage in 1944. She was a former member of Enon Baptist Church, where she was a GA leader and Sunday school teacher. She most recently was a member of Oxford Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Edward H. Daniel and Dr. Steve Bolton. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. James F. Pruitt; a daughter, Carrie Frances P. Younger of Falls Church, Va.; a son, Maurice Clay Pruitt of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Grace Chapman and Dorothy Lewis, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, William Pannell of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Omission of flowers is requested. Visitation will follow the graveside services.

Hubert E. Tyndall

HENDERSON -- Hubert Edward "Tweety" Tyndall, Sr., age 74, a resident of 1314 Hargrove St., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a local nursing home.
He was a native of Durham County and was the son of the late Matthew Ovide and Myrdle Tilly Tyndall.
He was a retired lieutenant of the Henderson Police Department, where he served for 24 1/2 years. He was also well-known and loved by many because of his talent and hobby of calling Western Square Dance for local area clubs.
Mr. Tyndall was a longtime member of Carey Baptist Church, where he and his wife lovingly raised their five children, and a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 AF&AM.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Sanderlin. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Johnson Tyndall, of the home; three daughters, Brenda T. Tankersley and husband, Tom, of Neptune Beach, Florida, Scenie T. Ciampa and husband, Tommy, of Zebulon, N.C., Deborah T. Kelly and husband, Jimmie, of Henderson; two sons, H.E. Tyndall Jr. and wife, Beverly, of South Hill, Va., Curtis L. Tyndall and wife, Edna, of Henderson; nine grandchildren, Justin Caton, Fuller Caton, Regena F. Hamrick, Chuck Filippone III, Kimberly K. Hedgepeth, Scott Kelly, Matthew Tyndall, Savannah Tyndall, and Logan Tyndall; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hamrick, James Hamrick, Gerri Anna Hedgepeth, Ellie Grace Hedgepeth, and Tucker Z. Kelly; one sister, Scenie T. Vestal, of Greensboro, N.C.; and one brother, Winefred Tyndall, of Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Tyndall, Clayborn Tyndall, and M. O. Tyndall; and one sister, Elizabeth T. Colclough, all of Durham.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be his grandsons Scott Kelly, Justin Caton, Fuller Caton, Chuck Filippone, III, and Julian Oliver, Jimmy Barrier, and Ben Floyd.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all active and retired officers of the Henderson Police Department and all members of the Henderson and Vance County Fire Departments.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1609, Henderson, N.C. 27536 or to the Masonic Home For Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Damus F. Williams

ASHEBORO -- Damus Forrest Williams, 84, of 143 Carriage Way Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Robeson County.
He was retired from Walker Shoe Company, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and attended United Pentecostal Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Gary Harper, C.H. Fisher and David Hutton. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Martha C. Williams of the home; one daughter, Patty Harper of Henderson; two sons, Harold Williams of Stedman and Larry Williams of Fayetteville; four stepdaughters, Alicia Lindley of Snow Camp, Mary Grubb of Greensboro, Virginia Pugh and Rebecca Dunn, both of Asheboro; two stepsons, Joseph Dunn of Asheboro and Michael Welch of Denton; one brother, Elmer Williams of Lumberton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 14 step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 620 Veterans Loop Road, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Leroy Young

OXFORD -- Leroy Young, 66, of 410 New College St., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at the Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native.
He was a member of the Huntsville Baptist Church, and was retired from Granville Medical Center after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Young of Oxford; three daughters, Arleisa Blondie Young and Amanda Kasha Young, both of the home, Wyvette Young Moore of Durham; one brother, James Young of Kettering, Md.; three sisters, Edith Daniels, Vinell Moore and Eunice McGhee, all of Oxford; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Huntsville Baptist Church by the Rev. R.N. Holloway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing was from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Annie T. Hester

HENDERSON — Annie Tucker Hester, 83, of Spartenburg, S.C., formerly of Oxford, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Solden Age Nursing Home in Spartenburg, S.C.

Ruth I. Ridway

OXFORD — Ruth Irene Ridway, 85, of 309 W. Thorndale Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Brantwood Nursing and Retirement Center.

Irene Seymour

WARRENTON — Irene Seymour, 86, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Evelyn R. Starrett

HENDERSON — Evelyn Ruth Starrett, 76, of 196 Hunter’s Ridge, Henderson, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Atlantic City, N.J., and the daughter of the late George E. and Elsie Galbraith Starrett.
She was a retired dietitian at Cherry Hill Hospital, in Cherry Hill, N.J. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist.
A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
Surviving are a brother, Weldon G. Starrett of Henderson.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Hubert E. Tyndall

HENDERSON — Hubert Edward "Tweety" Tyndall, Sr., age 74, a resident of 1314 Hargrove Street, died Sunday, September 17, 2000, in a local nursing home.
