WARRENTON -- Harold Pinto, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wise. The Rev. James Johnson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Ellender Alexander Pinto; four daughters, Elaine of Lancaster, Pa., Valerie of Durham, Robin of New York, and Bernedette of Braggs; one son, Harold Jr. of Smithfield ; two stepgrandchildren, Richard Coleman and Mary Lowery; sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Floyd D. Thomas
HENDERSON -- Floyd Dewitt Thomas, age 82, a resident of 115 Clearfield Drive, Roanoke Rapids, and a former resident of the Williamsboro Community, died Friday at Halifax Regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
He was a native of Mitchell County and was the son of the late Arnold and Pearl Woody Thomas. He was retired from S.T. Wooten Construction Co., and was a member of the Island Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnson Gupton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Allie Geouge Thomas, of Roanoke Rapids; four daughters, Jo Ann Thomas of Henderson, Asonia Thomas Barefoot of Tucson, Ariz., Rachel Thomas West of Melbourne, Australia, and Shelia Thomas Rivenbark of Roanoke Rapids; three sons, Larry Thomas of Alexandria, Va., Berl Thomas and William Roy Thomas, both of Asheville; three sisters, Bonnie Davis of Morganton, and Hattie Geouge and Grace Allen, both of Burnsville; five brothers, Jim Thomas of Henderson, Ben Thomas, John Thomas, and Sam Thomas, all of Burnsville, and Joe Thomas of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Thomas, James Thomas, Jessie Thomas, Arnie Thomas, Chet Thomas, and Billy Thomas.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Dorothy Rainey
HENDERSON -- Dorothy Mae Higgs Rainey, 75, of 419 John St., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Guardian Care Nursing Facility. She was a native Franklin County and the daughter of the late Betty and Lonnie White Higgs.
She was a member of Concord Baptist Church where the funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. S.E. Blalock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Fred Rainey Sr. of the home; nine children, William Foster of Kittrell, Dorothy Mae Rainey, Clifton Rainey, Gene Rainey, Cassie Rainey, Arthur Rainey, all of Henderson, Fred Rainey Jr. of Franklinton, Mary Rainey of the home, James T. Rainey of New York, N.Y.; one sister, Ethel Perry of Kittrell; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends of the home.
Pallbearers and floralbearers will be friends of the family.

OXFORD -- Bessie Anderson Parker, 94, of 110 Summitt Ave., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.

Raymond Baskett
HENDERSON -- Raymond Baskett, 68, of 511 Mayo St., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his residence. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Minnie Marshall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garnes Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held in the Blacknall cemetery.
There are no immediate survivors.

Neomia T. Croslan
HENDERSON -- Neomia Taylor Croslan, 80, of 1029 Pinkston St., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Temple Church by the Rev. Clevon Maye Jr. Burial will be in Blackman cemetery.
Surviving are a husband, Emanuel Croslan; three sons, Emanuel Croslan Jr. of Bahama, John A. Croslan and Melvin A. Croslan, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Edith Croslan Harris of Durham and Nancy Croslan Adkins of Fort Washington, Md.; three brothers, Ben Taylor, John Jackson and Robert Young, all of Durham; one sister, Thelma Monroe of San Francisco, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home.
Charles R. Daniel
RALEIGH -- Charles Robert Daniel, 73, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Britthaven of Smithfield.
He was a former employee of the W.H. King Wholesale Drug Company of Raleigh and retired from the Goody Manufacturing Company of Winston-Salem. After his retirement as a pharmaceutical representative, he became a P.R. man serving as a liason between NASCAR and Goody Manufacturing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, 7209 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. The Rev. Dr. David Hailey will officiate. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ross Daniel; three daughters, Deborah D. Heilig of Salisbury, Nancy Kimbrell of Garner, Sharon D. Gunn of Raleigh; one brother, Joseph Daniel of Oxford; and eight grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Susie B. Martin Fleming
HENDERSON -- Susie B. Martin Fleming, 66, of 1020 Water St., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at her residence. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of Ephraim Martin Jr. and the late Lizzie Thorpe Martin. She was the widow of James Thomas Fleming.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in which she worked with the Vacation Bible School, Bible Study, Ladies Club and Kitchen Committee.
She was employed with Roses Store Inc. for 36 years from which she retired in 1995.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. J.H. Bryant and Rev. Jamil Crosson. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
In addition to her father, Ephraim Martin Jr., survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Fleming of Durham, Geraldine Balthorpe and Angela Harris, both of Henderson; one son, Edward E. Fleming of Manson; three grandchildren; two sisters, Earline Martin and Marie Branch, both of Henderson; and one brother, James Martin of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Lillian D. Hedrick
MERRITT ISLAND, FLA. -- Lillian Hedrick, 79, of Merritt Island, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at National Health Care Place, Merritt Island.
Lillian Hedrick was born in Warrenton, N.C. She came to Brevard County in 1977 from North Carolina. She was a retired Special Second Class U.S. Navy Veteran and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Hedrick of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Jim Hedrick of Oakland, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Meredith Hedrick of Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Houston Hedrick, in 1995.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Brevard Memorial Park.

Bessie A. Parker
OXFORD -- Bessie Anderson Parker, 94, of 110 Summit St., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native.
She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Mack Timberlake Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Viola Mitchell of Oxford, Mamie Tyler of the home and Margaret Tyler of Pasadena, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 110 Summit St.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home.
Mary E. Parrott
FAYETTEVILLE -- Mary England Parrott, 82, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was a member of Lakedale Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lakedale Church of God by the Revs. Kenn Byrd, Walter Barwick and Lawrence Leonhard. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview cemetery in Warrenton.
Surviving are two daughters, Gwendolyn Phipps of Rome, Ga., and Faith Rogers of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

OXFORD -- Samuel W. Wilkerson, 77, of 115 Albert St., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Oxford Manor. He was a Person County native. He was a member of New Hope Granville Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Granville Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. James Isaac III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Fields Wilkerson; one daughter, Betty M. Wilkerson of the home; three sons, James T. Wilkerson of the home, Samuel Wilkerson Jr. of Oxford, and Eddie L. Wilkerson of Carrboro; four sisters, Earlene Dozier of Durham, Vinelle Thorpe of Bronx, N.Y., Nannie Mae Thorpe and Betty Royster, both of Oxford; one brother, Clifton T. Wilkerson of Durham; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

HENDERSON -- Mary Brown Alston, 73, of 350 S. Vance Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at U.N.C. Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Ottis C. Daniel
CREEDMOOR -- Ottis C. Daniel, 77, of 811 Crescent Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Wake Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Graham and Bettie Wheeler Daniel.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor, an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Schrader’s Machinery in Wake Forest and was employed at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Creedmoor by the Revs. Don Brown, Eddie Mauldin and Terry Hall. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Jenkins Daniel of the home; three daughters, Dianne D. Perkins of Greenwood, S.C., Debbie D. Creamer of Durham, and Cathy D. Sebastian of Creedmoor; and six grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor Building Fund, P.O. Box 38, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.

L. Howard Hobgood Sr.
HENDERSON -- Lucius Howard Hobgood, Sr., age 79, a resident of 119 White Oak Drive, died Tuesday morning at Wake Medical Center.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Noel Hayes Hobgood, Sr. and Cornie Evans Hobgood. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Marines.
From 1946 to 1949, he played in the New York Giants Baseball Organization. He was retired from Export Leaf & Tobacco Company where he worked for more than 30 years. After retiring from the tobacco company, he engaged in produce farming, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Rev. Ben Sims. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lynch Hobgood, of the home; one daughter, Patricia H. Hughes and husband Tony, of Henderson; three sons, William H. Hobgood, Sr. and wife Kathy of Henderson, Ronald T. Hobgood, Sr. and wife Lucy of Tavares, Florida, and L. Howard Hobgood, Jr. and wife Lizzy, of St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles; seven grandchildren, William H. Hobgood, Jr. and wife Jonelle, David N. Hobgood, Brooke E. Hobgood, Lindsey D. Hobgood, Brandon M. Hughes, R. Thomas Hobgood, Jr., Lauren E. Hobgood; one great granddaughter, Jordan Hobgood; one brother, Noel Hayes Hobgood, Jr., and wife Mary Bob of Toccoa, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Pat and Tony Hughes at 72 Eileen Court, off 158 Bypass.

Virginia M. Howard
CHARLOTTE -- Virginia Margaret Howard, 90, of Charlotte, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Ira Nathaniel and Lila Osborn Howard.
She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University. After teaching school for several years, she worked for the Oxford National Bank and was a former member of the Oxford Baptist Church. She and her mother moved to Charlotte in 1953.
She is survived by her brother, Ira Nathaniel Howard Jr.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood cemetery in Oxford with the Rev. Steven Bolton officiating.

Offie R. Lockemy Jr.
HENDERSON -- Offie R. Lockemy Jr., 69, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was a Henderson native and lived in River Ridge for the past 34 years.
He was a senior claims adjuster for Crawford and Co.
He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, and attended East Carolina College. He was a Navy veteran and a member of First Christian Church and Metairie Lodge No. 444 AF&AM where he was a 32nd degree Mason, a past patron of Metairie Ridge Chapter No. 169 Order of the Eastern Star and an adult worker for the International Order for Rainbow Girls. He received the Grand Cross of Color.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Coley Lockemy; two daughters, Michelle L. LaBarre and Melissa L. Lockemy; a brother, Bobby Lockemy of Henderson; and a sister, Mahaley Tharrington of Henderson.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial was in the Garden of Memories cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday.
Madaline Obrian Fuller
Madaline Obrian Fuller, 51, resident of 121 Oakwood Lane, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at Maria Parham Hospital.
