Charlie M. Hight Jr.
HENDERSON -- Charlie Medicus Hight Jr., 87, of Friends Homes West, Greensboro, and a former resident of Kittrell, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Charlie Medicus and Cassie Finch Hight.
He served in the United States Army, and was manager of the former Golden Belt Fair in Henderson for many years. He operated his own landscaping and cattle farming business and was president of Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Living Room at Friends Homes West. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. Charles Cook.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Montien McKaughan Hight of the home, and a brother, Clyde S. Hight of Henderson.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Resident’s Fund, Friends Homes West, 6100 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27410.

Khadijer Shakori-Tabrizi
HENDERSON — Khadijer S. T. Sedigh, age 83, a resident of 1810 Waddill Way, died Saturday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a native of Tabriz, Iran and was the daughter of the late Rahim Khan Tabrizi and Zahrad Shakori Tabrizi. She was the widow of Naser Sedigh.
She is survived by one daughter, Mino Sedigh of Henderson; three sons, Fariborz F. Sedigh of California, David Sedigh of Henderson, and Sirous Sedigh of Iran; and five grandchildren, Ali, Maryam, Tiffany, Hailey and Dariush.
Arrangements were by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Rosa E. Southerland
HENDERSON — Rosa Etta Southerland, 100, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Nick Foster and Anna Pratt Foster. She was educated in the Franklin County Schools and was a member of the Mitchell Baptist Church at Mitchell. She was active and a member of the Missionary Circle for 70 years. She also served as recording secretary, youth supervisor, mother of the Sunshine Band and Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel W. Lilly. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lee Williams of Franklin County; three sons, James Southerland, Bennett Southerland of Henderson, Julian Southerland of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Long, Earlie Foster, Percy Rogers, Edgar Harrison, deacons; and John Fogg and Samuel Foster, trustees.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Branch, Robert Foster, George Harris, Dr. J.P. Green and Clarence Williams, deacons. Floralbearers will be missionaries.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Elizabeth C. Crawford
OXFORD -- Elizabeth Cupp Crawford, of 411 Coggeshall St., died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Granville Medical Center after a brief illness. She was an Oxford native and the daughter of the late Nelson N. and Mary Lakel Cupp. She was the widow of James W. Crawford.
For a time, she resided in Somerset, Pa., Baltimore, Md., Pelham, Ga., Tsingtao, China, and Raleigh.
She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crawford plot in Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. Gala Collins.
Surviving are two stepsons, James and Arch Crawford, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Oxford United Church, P.O. Box 757, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family will be at the home of J.W. Crawford Jr., 509 College St.

John F. Long Jr.
HENDERSON -- John Floyd Long, Jr., 64, of 1234 Oakridge Avenue, Henderson, died Monday, October 30, 2000 in Maria Parham Hospital.
A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late John Floyd Long, Sr. and Lilly Breedlove Long.
Mr. Long was a supervisor with American Bakeries Company. He was a member of City Road United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at City Road United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Danielle Kirkland and the Rev. Steve Stutts. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Jean Lewis Long; a daughter, Carol L. Conn, of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Randy F. Long, of Henderson; four sisters, Mary L. Rogers, of Henderson, and Sally L. Pruitt, Janice L. Hayes, and Hazel L. Ramsey, all of Oxford; two brothers, George W. Long, and Tony Long, both of Henderson; and seven grandchildren, Zach Long, John Hunter Long, Casey Long, Darby Long, Caitlyn Conn, Jenny Weaver, and Emily Weaver. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah L. Weaver, and a brother Jimmy Long.
The family will receive friends this evening, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home on 1234 Oakridge Avenue.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Peter John Lewis, Jesse Lewis, Dale Pruitt, Jamie Hayes, Shawn Long, Jimmy Grissom, Kevin Long, and Benji Nelson.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
John H. McNeal
CREEDMOOR -- John Henry McNeal, 94, of 2534 Mt. Energy Road, Creedmoor, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.
He was a member of the Union AME Zion Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Beulah M. Alston of Creedmoor and Myrtle M. Wortham of Oxford; one son, Dennis McNeal of Oxford; six grandsons; one granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union AME Zion Church in Wilton by the Rev. J.D. Ray. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Kenton Tucker Parrott
HENDERSON -- Kenton Tucker Norton Parrott, age 79, a former resident of 1734 Raleigh Rd., died Monday, October 30, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late George N. Tucker, Sr. and Mabel Davis Tucker. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1938 and the Watts School of Nursing in 1941. She continued her post graduate studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and at John Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Mrs. Parrott was a retired Registered Nurse and during World War II received the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. She was the widow of Nelson Parrott.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Poplar Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Wanda Burton-Crutchfield.
She is survived by one son Dr. Michael Norton of Charlotte, one stepson David Parrott of Henderson, one brother George N. Tucker Jr., of Henderson, one sister Margaret T. Strickland, of Florida, two grandchildren, three step grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Poplar Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. At other times they will be at the home of Mr. of Mrs. George N. Tucker, Jr. 1980 Dabney Rd.

Mariam Holtzman
MANSON -- Mariam Anderson Margaret Seaman Holtzman, 92, of Senior Citizens Nursing Home, formerly of Rt. 1, Manson, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late John Jacob Seaman and Ruth Champion Seaman.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was charter member of LWMC, Ladies Aid, Young People’s Society, Home Demonstration Club and the Drewery Ladies Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Dennis Retzlaff. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Alma H. Mathews of Henderson and Jean H. Ruland of Nassau Bay, Texas; one son, J. Bernard Holtzman of Manson; three sisters, Natalie Mitchell of Henderson, Eva Holtzman of Ridgeway and Lena Bender of Ridgeway; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charles Holtzman, Jerry Holtzman, Gary Morgan, Justin Holtzman, Kyle Holtzman and Kellen Holtzman. Flower bearers will be members of the Ladies Aid and LWML.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of J. Bernard Holtzman, Rt. 1 Box 231-A, Ridgeway-Drewery Road, Manson.
Shirley D. Thomas
HENDERSON -- Shirley Deacon Thomas, 76, of 314 S. Cooper Drive, Henderson, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at her residence. She was a native of Lynchburg, Va., and the daughter of the late Norvel E. and Elizabeth Gay Thompson Deacon. She was the widow of Lt. Col. Hubert Maurice Thomas.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, conducted by Father Bill Long. Graveside services will be held later in Lynchburg, Va.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan T. Parmerter of Henderson; a son, Joseph M. Thomas of Kittrell; and five grandchildren.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials may be made to Saint James Catholic Church, 3275 U.S. 158 Bypass, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Rev. Samuel E. Williams
READING, PA. -- The Rev. Samuel Earl Williams, 66, died in Reading, Pa. He was a Vance County native and the son of Jessie Williams.
He attended the Vance County and New York Schools. He attended college and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. At an early age, he joined St. Andrews U.C.C. He later became a member of Second St. James Church in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Faith Temple, C.F.A.P. The Rev. George H. Williams will officiate, assisted by the Revs. L.Q. Williams and Mary Emma Evans.
The family will receive friends at the home of the Rev. and Min. George H. Williams, 212 Charles St., Henderson.
James W. Adcock
HENDERSON -- James Wesley Adcock, 74, of 40 Pine Ridge Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Wake Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Walter David and Mary Gussie Newton Adcock.
He was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Bandag.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford. Burial will be in Grassy Creek Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Haley Adcock of the home; one daughter, Josephine A. Clayton of Oxford; one son, James W. Adcock Jr. of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

Aldon Ray Davis
HENDERSON -- Aldon Ray Davis, age 62, a resident of 721 Berry Street, died Wednesday evening at Oxford Manor in Oxford.
He was a native of Clinton, N.C. and was the son of the late Bob Allen and Mary Hope Davis. He was the owner and operator of the former Davis Plumbing Company.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Smith Davis, of the home; three sisters, Helen D. Lockamy, Shirley D. Buchanan, and Barbara Jean D. Williams, all of Clinton; four brothers, James Robert Davis of Clinton, Billy Earl Davis, and Herman Leslie Davis both of Jacksonville, N.C., and W.J. Davis of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Tanya Pearce at 716 South Carolina Avenue.

William M. Harris
HENDERSON -- William Marshall Harris, age 75, a resident of 2615 N. Lynnbank Road, died Wednesday morning at his home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Ollie Macon and Mabel Shearin Harris.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Harriett-Henderson Yarns, Inc. where he was a supply clerk, and was a former employee of Holland Supply Company.
Mr. Harris attended the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church where funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Rob Keffer. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Scott Harris, of the home; three daughters, Judy H. Loving, Drucilla H. Paschall, and Patsy H. Briggs, all of Henderson; one son, Marshall Wayne Harris of Augusta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronnie Lassiter, Denny Ray Peoples, Bill Batts, James Pendergrass, Steve Wiggins, Bruce Harp, Tommy Manning, and Joe Johnson.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Bible Class.

Walter B. Hicks
PALMER SPRINGS, VA. -- Walter B. Hicks, 89, of Palmer Springs, Va., died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roanoke Chapel Christian Church in Palmer Springs, Va. The Rev. Curtis McRae, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Louellen Thrower Hicks of the home; four daughters, Vivian Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lillian Jones of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Alfreda Hendricks of Bronx, N.Y., and Evelyn Bagley of the home; three sons, Willie Hicks of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Clarence Hicks of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Larry Hicks of Jersey City, N.J.; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Joseph W. Hunt
OXFORD -- Joseph W. Hunt, 86, of Bethesda, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in Maryland. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Joseph Penn and O’della Royster Hunt. He was the husband of Elaine Mills Hunt and the late Myrtle D. Hunt.
He was retired from Kodak Corporation.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood cemetery in Oxford.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph W. Hunt Jr. of Wheaton, Md., Dorsey Penn Hunt of Atlanta; a sister, Doris H. Evans of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Marvin N. Hunt of Honesdale, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
