Wanda Lee Hendricks Nelson

Henderson -- Wanda Lee Hendricks Nelson, age 55, a resident of 721 Spring Valley Lake Rd., died Monday, November 6, 2000, at Mara Parham Hospital. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Edwin Earl and Hazel Tant Hendricks.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Wilbert Horton.
She is survived by her husband Rowland Mark Nelson, one daughter Rita Darnell Richardson of Warwick RI, one sister Hilda H. Dement of Henderson, two brothers Ray Hendricks of LaVergne TN and Ruben Hendricks of Coventry RI, one step son, one step daughter and two step grandsons.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the home, 721 Spring Valley Lake Rd.
Serving as active Pallbearers will be: Justin Waddill, Christopher Livengood, Ronald Livengood, Dean Livengood, Michael Livengood and Larry Dement.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Richard Perry Satterwhite

KNIGHTDALE -- Richard Perry Satterwhite, 74, of 1312 Fayetteville Street, died Tuesday, November, 7, 2000, at Wake Medical Center. Born November 3, 1926 in Franklin County to the late Richard E. Satterwhite and Geneva Jernigan Satterwhite. Perry retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and after retirement he was a self-employed contractor and ran a saw mill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2000 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Sunset Gardens cemetery, 3174 Highway 158 Business, Henderson, N.C. with full military honors.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Hunt Satterwhite; three brothers, Jesse W. Satterwhite Sr., Jack Satterwhite and Steve Satterwhite, all of Raleigh; three sisters, Charlotte S. Hensley of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Shirley S. Gordon of Clayton and Jean S. Faison of Knightdale; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Satterwhite and sister, Frances S. Poole.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545 and other times at the home of David and Renee Pope, 1007 Fayetteville St., Knightdale, N.C. 27545.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church in memory of Perry Satterwhite, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545.

Nannie W. Williams

HENDERSON -- Nannie W. Williams, 75, of 117 S. Elizabeth St., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dickies Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. A.B. Bass. Burial will be in Sunset Garden.
Surviving are her husband, Henry Williams Jr.; one son, Harry Williams of Kittrell; one sister, Sarah Luck of Chatham, Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Eunice Currin

OXFORD -- Eunice Sue Barnette Currin, 87, of 2600 Elms Plantation Blvd., died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Ashley Nursing Home in Charleston, S.C. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Annie Fuller Barnette and the widow of Johnnie C. Currin.
She was a graduate of the Watts School of Nursing, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a member of Easter Star #94, Oxford Woman’s Club, president of Homemakers Club, treasurer and pianist of Granville Fellowship Club, member of Hester Baptist Church and was a church organist for 17 years. She retired as a librarian and LPN.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hester Baptist Church by the Revs. Lewis Wall and Les Giles. A private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hester Baptist Church prior to the funeral.
Surviving are a daughter, Johnsie Currin of Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Delta Society, 289 Perimeter Road East, Renton, Wash. 98055-1329.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Rufus Brown

WARRENTON -- Rufus Brown, 59, formerly of Warren County, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Washington, D.C.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Baptist Church cemetery in Warrenton. The Rev. Lawrence Harrison will officiate.
Surviving are two sisters, Lucille Willis of Washington, D.C., and Laura Reynolds of Maryland; and four brothers, James Arthur Brown of Richmond, Va., Clifton Brown of Maryland, Calvin and Albert Brown, both of Washington, D.C.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton and Henry S. Washington & Sons Funeral Home of Washington, D.C.

Clara K. Dunston

HENDERSON -- Clara Kingsberry Dunston, 75, of Guardian Care Nursing Care, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Henry and Flora Williams Kingsberry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Veola Johnson. Burial will follow in the Jesse Kittrell cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Gibbs of Henderson; two sons, James Kingsberry of Richmond, Va., and Edward Kingsberry of Maryland; two sisters, Mary Wright and Van Kingsberry, both of New Jersey; two brothers, Simeon Kingsberry of Louisburg, Arthur Kingsberry of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at South Wood Trailer Park, Lot No. 33-A, the residence of Carolyn Gibbs.
The body will be on view until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service of Henderson.

George Anderson Payne

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- George Anderson Payne, 42, of 3925 Valley Court, Winston-Salem, died November 8, 2000 in an automobile accident.
He was born September 10,1958, in Henderson, N.C. George attended the Woodbury Forest School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. In his working career, he was a stockbroker.
George is survived by his two sons, George Anderson “Trip” Payne, Jr. and Harris Ryan Payne; their mother, Maura T. Payne; his mother, Margaret R. Long, all of Winston Salem; his father William D. Payne of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and two brothers William David Payne III and wife, Stacy, of Hillsborough, N. C., and Bennett R. Payne of Raleigh. George is also survived by his great aunt, Margaret H. Young, of Winston-Salem; his uncle, Edwin F. Payne and wife Claire of Briarcliffe Manor, New York; his niece, Sophia Grace Payne and nephew, William David Payne, IV; and cousins, Robert Graham White, III and wife Barbara of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and George Rose White and wife Mary Kendall of Richmond, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2000 at 11 a.m. at The Church Of The Holy Innocents by George’s cousin, the Rev. Lawrence R. Harris and the Rev. Dan Barker. A private graveside service will follow at Elmwood cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mental Health Association of Forsyth County, 4264 Bromsboro Road, Suite 100, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27106 or to Sunnyside Ministries, 319 Haled Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27127.
The family will receive friends immediately following the private graveside service in The Great Hall of The Church Of The Holy Innocents.
J.M. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Richardson

WARRENTON -- Willie Richardson, 57, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Halifax Memorial Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Green Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton. The Rev. James Pettaway will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Richardson of the home; two sons, Willie Richardson Jr., and Benjamin Richardson, both of Henderson; one daughter, Myra Richardson of Henderson; two stepsons, George Alston and Maurice Alston, both of Warrenton; his mother, Mary Williams Richardson of Warrenton; two brothers, Gundy Richardson Jr. and Charles S. Richardson, both of Warrenton; six sisters, Ethel Davis, Betty T. Williams, Barbara Bryant, and Annie Lewis, all of Warrenton, Cornelia Plummer of Nashville, and Agnes R. Smith of Raleigh; five grandchildren.
The body will be on view Friday at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Clarence W. Brame

HENDERSON -- Clarence William Brame, age 83, a resident of 1203 Coble Blvd., died Friday morning at his home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Buddy Ausborn and Bessie Roberson Brame. He was a retired Supervisor at Continental Hosiery Mill where he worked for 50 years.
He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a former Chairman of Deacons.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Williamson Brame, of the home; one niece, Betsy B. Autry, of Henderson; two nephews, Sol Brame, Jr. of Raleigh and Arthur Lee Brame of Virginia; six God-children, Kay and Jimmy Barrier, Jane and Dennis Renn, Kelly Renn, and Lori Renn Abbott all of Henderson, five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Williamson Tillotson, Marie Williamson Adcock, Peggy Ivey Williamson, Ora Lee Williamson, and Doris Roberson Williamson. He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Ray “Billy” Brame, and two brothers Grady Brame and Sol Brame, Sr.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Dennis Renn, Jimmy Barrier, Gerald Robinson, Ronnie Noel, Sol Brame, Jr., Dan Robinson, Edgar Parham, and John Price.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all Deacons and Elders of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, c/o Mrs. Lucy Longmire, 2941 Glebe Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Emra Clemons

HENDERSON -- Emra “Coty” Clemons, 68, of 130 Ramsey Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Wilmington.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Leland. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Kim Clemons of Newport News, Va., and John Clemons of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Yvette Bright of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Annie Fleming-Harris Rodwell

WARRENTON -- Annie Fleming-Harris Rodwell, a longtime resident of Warrenton, died on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, following a brief illness.
She was born in Mapleville, N.C., the county of Franklin, on Nov. 9, 1904 to Annie Lyle Fleming Harris and Clyde Peebles Harris.
In 1925, she received a bachelor of arts degree from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and came to Warrenton in 1928 to teach at the John Graham School.
The following year, Annie Fleming-Harris and Warren County native, Clyde Ethelbert Rodwell were united in marriage on June 29, 1929 at Maple Springs Baptist Church near her girlhood home in Franklin County. They shared almost 55 years together.
Mrs. Rodwell devoted her life to her family and to her church. She had many interests and was actively involved in her community for 72 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne Rodwell Huntley of Reston, Va., Margaret Scott Rodwell Trotter and her husband, James Fischer Trotter Jr., of Sunset Beach; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place on Sun., Nov. 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at Fairview cemetery, Warrenton, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial offerings be given to Cherry Hill Historical Foundation, Rt. 3, Box 98, Warrenton, N.C. 27589; The Warrenton Baptist Church, 226 N. Main St., Warrenton, N.C. 27589; The North Carolina Symphony, 2 East South St., Raleigh, N.C. 27601.

Nellie Watkins

OXFORD -- Nellie Gray Currin Watkins, 71, of 4613 Old Route 75, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at her home. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Hardy C. and Fannie Averette Currin.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was retired from The Herald Sun Paper with 47 years of service.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will follow in the Averette Family cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, James Herman Watkins of the home; one daughter, Mary Nell Darden of Clinton; one sister, Frances Currin Churchill of Durham; one brother, Hardy C. Currin of Oxford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Don Watkins, Randy Watkins, Ricky Satterwhite, Jimmy Satterwhite, Andy O’Brian and Jack Watkins.
Visitation for the family was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford and at other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.

Mary D. Williams

WARRENTON -- Mary Davis Williams, 84, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola. The Rev. Andrew L. West will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Magnolia Williams Clanton of Warrenton; one son, Willard E. “Pete” Williams of Greensboro; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Roy T. Bowling

HENDERSON -- Roy Thomas Bowling, 54, of 104 Willow Oak Place, Henderson, N.C., died Saturday, November 11, 2000 at his residence.
A native of Pitt County, he was the son of Lee Roy Bowling, of Farmville, N.C., and the late Ruth Jones Bowling.
Mr. Bowling was a retired machine operator with Ball Incon, Inc., where he was employed for some twenty-six years. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held today, at 2 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife, Mary Ann Moore Bowling; a daughter, Kimberly B. Ayscue, and husband, Steven, of Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Larry F. Bowling, and wife, Penny, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; one granddaughter, Samantha Renee Ayscue; a nephew, Robert A. Bowling, of Greenville, N.C.; and his beloved cat, “Mouse”.
The family will receive friends at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, 604 Meadow Street, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Scott P. Cooper

HENDERSON -- Scott Parker Cooper, 80, formerly of Jennette Avenue, Henderson, died Friday, November 10, 2000, in Morehead City, N.C.
A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late James Crawford Cooper, Sr., and Lucy Parham Cooper. He was the widower of Ellen Self Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a retired owner and operator of Southern Quilters, Inc. of Henderson. He was a graduate of Fishbourne military Academy, and Davidson College. He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served under General George S. Patton. He was a former Captain of the local National Guard Unit. While in Henderson, he was a well-known business, church, and civic leader. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at 3:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Brand. Burial will follow at Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Geiger Cooper, of Morehead City, N.C.; two daughters, Ellen C. Moser, and husband, Wade, of Raleigh, N.C., and Emily C. Boyd, and husband, Timothy, of Washington, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson Doerfler, and husband, Michael, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Crawford Hill Boone, and Kathryn Cooper Boone, both of Raleigh. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie Cooper Gilliam, and two brothers, James Crawford Cooper, Jr., and Hill Parham Cooper.
The family will receive friends in the Cooper Room of First Presbyterian Church, immediately following the interment at the cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Timothy R. Boyd, Michael T. Doerfler, A.C. Gray III, William G. Thomas, D. Boyd Kimball, Jr., Crawford Hill Boone, James Crawford Cooper, III, George T. Blackburn, II, and Robert Jackson Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow members of the North Carolina National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 222 Young Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536, or Alcoholics Anonymous.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Thelma G. Lombard

OXFORD -- Thelma Gray Lombard, 78, of Richmond, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Va. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Clifton and Annie Gray Roberson Stevenson and the widow of Edward R. Lombard.
She was a retired supervisor of Keyes Fibre Co.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Hester Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Lewis Wall.
Surviving are two sons, Richard A. Lombard, David W. Lombard; two daughters, Patricia A. Alexander, Cathy J. MacKenzie; three sisters, Naomi Melton, Ruth Bynum, Carolyn Burton; and nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Raleigh, N.C. 27604-1043.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Lula E. Lovett

WARREN COUNTY -- Lula Evans Lovett, formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in San Diego, Calif.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.
