OXFORD -- Martha Hawley Boone, 66, of 115 Webb Place, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Genie and Janie Chavis Hawley.
She also was a member of the Tally Ho Baptist Church.
Surviving are her four sisters, Flora Williams, Emma Pettiford and Bessie Glover, all of Oxford, Ida Harris of Butner; one brother, Robert Hawley of Yonkers, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Tally Ho Baptist Church in Stem. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc. of Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts Funeral Home of Oxford.
Beatrice H. Brown
HENDERSON -- Beatrice Hargrove “Bob” Brown, 59, of 310 Burnside Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. Burial will lie in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph Brown Jr.; one daughter, Magnolia B. Hunter of Kittrell; one son, Orlando Brown of the home; four sisters, Lucy Brown, Esther Alston, Lida Davis and Dorothy Town, all of Henderson; four foster daughters, Melody Davis, Tracy Mosley, Theresa Cheek and Deborah Brown, all of Henderson; six foster sons, Rashad Davis of Creedmoor, Allen Johnson, C.J. Thompson, Quentin Perry, Dennis Brown and Michael Brown, all of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The body will lie in state from 12 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.

OXFORD -- Jeanette Morton Chavis, 72, of 6010 Horner Siding Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.

Clementine L. Gaines
CREEDMOOR -- Clementine Lyons Gaines, 48, of 2523 Brogden Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Triangle Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough.
She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and an employee of Duke Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry McElroy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a foster son, Mario Lyons of Raleigh; her parents, James Lyons and Pauline Harris Lyons of the home; two sisters, Gracie Lyons of the home and Mary Evans of Wharton, N.J.; and two brothers, Otis Lyons of Creedmoor; and Carl Lyons of Durham.
The family will receive visitors at the residence.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
Thomas F. Matthews Jr.
HENDERSON -- Thomas Faucette “Tommy” Matthews Jr., 43, of 638 Vance Academy Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of Thomas F. and Clara Tillotson Matthews of Henderson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Gary Brummitt.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are three sisters, Becky Matthews of Los Osos, Calif., and Sarah M. Morrow and Debbie M. Baucom, both of Roxboro.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ed Tillotson, Jackie Tillotson, Chuck Tillotson, Mark Tillotson, Harry Matthews, George Pinion, Danny R. Matthews, and Lawrence Ray Williamson Jr.

Zona E. Salsman
JENSEN BEACH, FLA. -- Zona E. Salsman, 90, of Jensen Beach, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Martin Memorial Medical Center. She was a native of Henderson and had been a resident of Jensen Beach since 1969.
She was the owner/operator of the Driftwood Motel in Jensen Beach.
She was a member of American Legion Post in Jensen Beach and Florida Boys Ranch.
Surviving are two brothers, Jerry and Woodrow Johnson, both of Henderson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Aycock Funeral Home in Jensen Beach. A service will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1693 Indian St., Stuart, Fla., 34997 or to a charity of choice.

Nollie K. Susewell
MANSON -- Nollie Key Susewell, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at her U.S. 1 residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at Little Bethel Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Va., by the Rev. David L. Banks Sr. Burial will follow in the Key Family cemetery in Stony Creek.
She was a native of Sussex County, Va., and the daughter of the late Henry Key and Jennie Ann Parham Key.
She was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Va.
At the age of 17, she moved to Long Island, N.Y., where she later met and married Richard Allen Susewell. After residing in New York for 50 years, she moved to Manson, where she was a homemaker for the past 10 years.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Susewell of Manson; two sons, Henry Susewell of North Babylon, N.Y., and Eric Susewell of the home; four daughters, Connie Milton of Amityville, N.Y., Alice Susewell of Middleburg, and Vanessa Alston and Gail Susewell, both of Manson; two brothers, Glover Key and George Key, both of Stony Creek, Va.; a sister, Cora Curtis of Petersburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Yates, Michael Key, Jerome Key, Jessie Winfield, David Susewell and William Campbell.
Nieces will serve as floral bearers.
There will be a visitation at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday.
The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service.
The family will meet with friends at the home in Manson.

Michael P. Tillman
DURHAM -- Michael P. Tillman, 60, of 600 Nash St., died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Duke University Medical Hospital. He was a native of Durham and the son of the late Charles and Mattie Page Tillman.
He was educated in the Durham City Schools and was a graduate of Hillside High School.
He had been a chaffeur for Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder. He was a taxicab driver and had driven for Pine Street Taxi, Hillside Taxi and Mike’s Taxi. He had been affiliated with Fisher Funeral Parlor and the Lions Club industries.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 102 E. Cornwalis Road in Durham. The Rev. Dennis Davis will officiate. Burial will be held at Meadowview Memorial Park on Stovall Road in Oxford.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Lettie Hester Tillman; a daughter, Valeria Watson Williams; two sons, Michael P. Tillman Jr. and Ravon Gray; five grandchildren; a sister, Joan Dewayne Tillman Lassiter; and two brothers, Charles Tillman Jr. and Eric Tillman of Hillsborough.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Parlor.

L.A. Westbrook Jr.
SPARTANBURG -- Lewis Andrew Westbrook Jr., 63, of 141 Mabry Drive, Spartanburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home after an extended illness.
Born in Duplin County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Lewis Andrew Westbrook Sr. and Margaret Hill Westbrook. He was the former store manager with Roses in the Pinewood Shopping Center for over 18 years and was a former member of the Exchange Club. He was also a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Spartanburg and had served in the National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Hicks Westbrook of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Andrew “Andy” Westbrook III and Catherine Wessinger Westbrook; two grandsons, Lewis Andrew Westbrook IV and Marshall Derrick Westbrook, all of Spartanburg; and one brother, Willard Ray Westbrook of Wadesboro, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Neil M. Yongue. The family will receive friends following the service at the chapel.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Westbrook Family cemetery in Albertson, North Carolina, conducted by the Rev. George Westbrook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29307 or to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, S.C. 29304.

Hessie Mitchiner
HENDERSON -- Hessie Mae Rice Gales Mitchiner, 74, of 730 College St., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at her residence. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Nathan and Hallie Cooper Rice.
She was educated in the Vance County Public Schools System and was the widow of Wilbert Mitchiner.
She was a faithful member of Big Ruin Creek Baptist Church where the funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today by Dr. C.B. Walton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Gales of the home; five granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evangelist Cora Pettiford and Minnie B. Foster, both of Henderson; and four brothers, the Rev. Thomas S. Rice, Seamon Rice, McDonald Rice, all of Henderson, and the Rev. Samuel Rice of Boston, Mass.
The family received friends on Friday at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Floralbearers will be nieces.

WARRENTON -- Charlie Williams, 54, of the Parktown community, Warrenton, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2000, at the Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Spring Green Baptist Church in Warrenton. The Rev. Dennis G. Lindsay, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Amy Smith of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Emma Williams of Warrenton, Mary Kearney, Dorothy Townes and Mattie M. Williams, all of Newark, N.J.; and four brothers, Bennie Williams of Newark, N.J., Calvin Williams of Hephzibah, Ga., Kenneth Williams of Augusta, Ga., and Michael Williams of Warrenton.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

HENDERSON -- Charlie “Bo” William Bullock, 75, of Rt. 1, Manson, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Duke Medical Center. He was a Vance County and the son of the late Henry and Martha Bullock.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leon White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Pattie Lee Bullock; eight daughters, Joan White of Richmond, Va., Martha Bullock, Mary Evans, Denise Seward, Valerie Hargrove, Lou Yarborough, Diane Bullock and Almeta Powell, all of Manson; five sons, David Bullock of Warrenton, Donnell Bullock of the home, Melvin Bullock and Dennis Bullock, both of Manson, Glenn Goode of New York; one sister, Martha Hargrove of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Eddie Bullock of Manson; 53 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her parents of Fayetteville, are one sister, Cierra Barnes of Fayetteville; one brother, Kevin Bullock of Henderson; maternal grandparents, James and Jacqueline Barnes of Rockingham; paternal grandparents, Elizabeth Bennett of Henderson and Alfonso M. Bullock of Henderson; paternal step-grandmother, Lucy Bullock of Henderson; paternal great-grandparents, James and Bertha Mayo of Ridgeway.

OXFORD -- Jackie Ralph Davis Jr., 42, of 2069 James Winston Road, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at his home. He was a Forsythe County native and the son of the late Jackie R. Davis Sr. and Dorothy Outlet Davis. He was a retired auto mechanic.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Robert Oliver. Burial will be in Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Cooke Davis; a daughter, Sherry Davis Weary of Butner; two sons, Steven Davis and Timothy Davis, both of Oxford; a sister, Pamela Jean Abbott of Henderson; one brother, Ricky Davis of Winston-Salem; and two granddaughters.

HENDERSON -- Parthenia Hawkins Henderson, 60, of the Christian Care Nursing Facility, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the facility.
She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Lucy Lee Hawkins and Lewis Hawkins.
She attended the former Henderson Institute and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Garnes Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Brenda Gail Peace. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Joe A. Henderson of Henderson; four children, Joe A. Henderson, James T. Henderson, Joyce A. Henderson and Lee J. Henderson, all of Henderson; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ellen Henderson, Dorothy Hayes and Barbara Durham, all of Henderson; five brothers, James A. Hawkins, Johnnie Hawkins, Jerry Lee Hawkins, Anderson Hawkins and Little John Hawkins, all of Henderson.
