Mildred E. Davis
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Services for Mildred Edney Davis, 65, will be held at 11 am Thursday in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, conducted by Pastor Todd Vick and Reverend O’Neil Sharpe. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be two of her grandsons, Brant and Brandon Davis, as well as David Tinsley, Ed Swearingen, Mike Swearingen, and Jay Iadonisi. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late John Hyman and Pearl Frost Edney. She was a lifetime local resident and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert B. Davis, Jr., of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Brantley Davis, III and Donna Nordan Davis of West Columbia, John Stephen and Mary Schohn Davis of Lexington, Joseph Harley and Dawn Kyzer Davis of West Columbia; and seven grandchildren.
Charles P. Ellington
MANSON -- Charles P. Ellington, age 65, a resident of Rt. 1, Box 76, Manson, died Tuesday Nov. 28, 2000 at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Martha B. Hargrove
HENDERSON -- Martha Burwell Hargrove, 87, a native of the Williamsboro community, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in Christian Care Nursing Home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Rosezene Terry and Henry Burwell.
She worked many years at J.P. Tobacco Company and Lewis Factory.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. John E. Durham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Ethel Thomas, Drucille Scott, both of Townsville, Nannie Davis and Shirley Davis, both of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service. At other times, they will be at the residence of Ethel Thomas, 205 Tungsten Mine Road.
The body will be on view at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Mary Stoneburner
BURLINGTON -- Mary Elizabeth Poythress Stoneburner, 81, of The Chase, 3508 Garden Road, Burlington, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at her residence of a sudden illness. She was a native of Henderson and the daughter of the late Henry Poythress and Jane Elmore Poythress.
She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church and a graduate of R.P.I. of the College of William & Mary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Front Street United Methodist Church by Dr. William C. Simpson Jr., Dr. G. Robert McKenzie Jr., and the Rev. William G. Sharpe IV.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Richard G. Stoneburner of the home; one son, Richard G. Stoneburner of Palm Beach County, Fla.; three daughters, Jane S. Morris of Montclair, N.J., Harriet Anne S. Bell of Charlottesville, Va., and Betsy S. Weatherly of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Anne Poythress of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends in the church parlor following the services.

Robert L. Daniel
HENDERSON -- Robert Lester Daniel, 56, of 1502 Peace St., Henderson, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home. He was a native of Rutherford County and was the son of Dorothy Godfrey Daniel of Forest City and the late John Lester Daniel.
He was an employee of Americal Inc.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard Brand.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Charlotte Seely Daniel; a son, Eric Daniel of Greenville, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Tera Lequire Kataria of Kennesaw, Ga., and Bobbie Lequire of Henderson; two sisters, Wanda D. Vassey of Charlotte and Teresa D. Sams of Forest City.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Marrian P. Durham
RICHMOND -- Marrian Plummer Durham, 85, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Ridgeway Baptist Church. The Rev. Willie T. Ramey, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Plummer Family cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Edna M. Seward of Richmond, Va., and Mary A. Durham of Trenton, N.J.; one son, Clarence A. Durham of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorthy Ross of Ridgeway and Vivian Kearney of Norfolk, Va.
The body will be on view Thursday at Boyd’s Funeral Service until taken to the church one hour before the services.

Charles P. Ellington Jr.
MANSON -- Charles Perry Ellington, Jr., age 65, a resident of Rt. 1, Box 76, Manson, died Tuesday evening at his home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Charles Perry and Gertrude Paschall Ellington. He was a farmer and tobacco warehouseman, a member of the Brookston Presbyterian Church, and a charter member of the Drewry Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Brookston Presbyterian Church by Dr. Gerald Wilson. Burial will follow in the New Hope cemetery in Manson.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Buchan Ellington, of the home; three sons, Charles Perry Ellington III of Charlotte, Richard Mark Ellington of Wrightsville Beach, and Alan Nicholas Ellington of Raleigh; one sister, Nancy E. Patterson of Burlington, and three grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Russell Patterson, Richard Patterson, Richard Buchan III, Barry DiRuzza, Trenton Grissom, Richard Blanks, Wayne Ellington, Ray Pegram Sr., and Ronald Stainback Jr.

OXFORD -- Bruce Garcia Harris, 46, of 8109 Benny Blackwell Road, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at his home.
He was the son of Essick Harris and Janie Faulkner Harris.
He was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are two sons, Hassan Harris of Oxford and Darien Harris of Jersey City, N.J.; one daughter, Moneera Harris of the home; his parents, Essick Harris and Janie F. Harris of the home; one sister, Sylvia D. Harris of Jersey City, N.J.; two brothers, Michael Harris of Oxford and Dennis Harris of Hillside, N.J.; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. A.M. Faulkner. Burial will follow in the Harris Family cemetery.

HENDERSON -- Ularene Henderson, 96, of 213 South Bullock St., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.
Helen D. Hughes
OXFORD -- Helen Dillehay Hughes, 81, of Brantwood Nursing & Retirement Center, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native.
She was a member of West Oxford Baptist Church.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Elmwood cemetery in Oxford by Dr. Jim Whitehead.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Ann Hughes of Oxford and Phyllis H. Klenke of Leesburg, Va.; one son, Deryl Hughes of Raleigh; two sisters, Katherine D. Hobgood of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Elizabeth D. Tucker of Beulaville; and five grandchildren.

David L. Overby
OXFORD -- David Lee Overby, 50, of 414-A, Taylor Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are two sisters, Selina Blalock of Baltimore, Md., and Mildred Burwell of Oxford; and three brothers, Donnell Overby of Durham, Earnest Overby and Chris Overby, both of Oxford.
The family will receive visitors at the residence of Mildred Burwell, 4031 Richard Lane.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.
William T. Slayton Sr.
HENDERSON -- William Taft Slayton, Sr., 86, of 1732 Parker Lane, Henderson, died Tuesday, November 28, 2000 in Henderson, N.C.
A native of Morrisville, Vermont, he was the son of the late Dr. William T. and Charlotte Meier Slayton. He was the widower of Lois Shoaf Slayton.
Mr. Slayton was a retired electrical engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He attended First Baptist Church, in Henderson. He was a member of The Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, and the Sertoma Club, in Chapel Hill. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
A memorial services will be held Saturday, at 3 p.m., in First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark. A graveside service will be held Sunday, at 1 p.m., at The Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, in Chapel Hill, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Elkins-Williams.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Dennis Slayton; three daughters, Mary Eleanor Slayton, of College Park, Maryland, Sally S. Reohr, and husband, Richard, of Union Springs, New York, and Charlotte S. Kaetzel, and husband, David, of Lexington, Kentucky; a son, William T. Slayton, Jr., and wife, Anita, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; two step-daughters, Grey T. Currin, of Oxford, and Ann T. Hoyle, of Henderson; a step-son, Dennis Tharrington, of Henderson; eleven grandchildren, Richard D. Reohr, Jr., Kathleen Reohr Aguilar, Michael W. Reohr, James P. Reohr, Christina Reohr Mosley, Laura Nace, Jeffrey Nace, Stephen Kaetzel, Ricky Kaetzel, Melissa Slayton, and Stephen Slayton; eleven great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte S. Houghtaling.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Mary W. Thompson
MACON -- Mary Walker Thompson, 86, of Rt. 1, Macon, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Warren Hills Nursing Center in Warrenton. She was the daughter of William Henry and Mary Wright Walker and the widow of Lewis E. Thompson.
She was a member of Gardener’s Baptist Church and a member of The Home Distribution Club.
Surviving is one sister, Edna Speight Oldham of Durham.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Gardener’s Baptist Church cemetery by the Revs. Rob Evans and Nat Brummitt.

Beatrice H. Evans
HENDERSON -- Beatrice Husketh Evans, age 85, a resident of Britthaven Nursing Home, died Thursday morning at Britthaven.
She was a native of Wake County and was the daughter of the late Junious and Mary Nelson Husketh, and was the widow of Linwood Carl Evans. She was a retired private duty nurse and member of the South Henderson Church Of God.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gary Harper. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Youngsville.
She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Evans Floyd, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two brothers, Leo Husketh of Wake Forest and Arthur Husketh of Texas.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home.

HENDERSON -- Janie H. Glasscock, 89, of 4262 Dabney Road, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Britthaven of Henderson. She was a native of LaCross, Va., and the daughter of the late Jim and Mary Hatchell and the widow of John H. Glasscock.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Aubrey Florence. Burial will follow in Virgilina cemetery in Virgilina, Va.
Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Travis of Henderson; her sons, John J. Glasscock of South Boston, Va., Henry A. Glasscock of Roxboro, Ernest L. Glasscock and Billy M. Glasscock, both of Henderson, James E. Glasscock of Rougemont; brothers, James Hatchell, Ernest Hatchell, Clyde Hatchell, all of Burlington; sister, Ruth Holland of Elm City; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ularene Henderson
HENDERSON -- Ularene Henderson, 96, of 213 South Bullock St., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Richard and Betty Elizabeth Glasco Henderson.
She attended Vance County Public Schools and attended Shaw University in Raleigh.
She lived in the Brighton Beach area of Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ashley Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Wilson Battle, assisted by the Rev. Roosevelt Alston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Alexander of Buffalo, N.Y., Esther Hanks and Ruth Burwell of Henderson; one brother, Thomas Henderson of Henderson.

Ruby Rae Shotwell Hutson
STOVALL -- Ruby Rae Shotwell Hutson, 82, of 212 Cedar Lane, died Thursday, November 30, 2000 at Duke Medical Center. A native of Granville Co., daughter of the late Henry Ray and Grace Hicks Shotwell, widow of Lynwood S. Hutson, a member of Stovall Baptist Church serving as choir member, a retired employee of Burlington Industries in Clarksville, Va., a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday December 2, 2000 from the Stovall Baptist Church by the Rev. George Custer and the Rev. John Yount. Burial will follow in Stovall Memorial cemetery.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne S. and Jean Hutson of Stovall; her grandchildren, Wayne S. Hutson, Jr. and Emily Paige Hutson, both of Stovall, Chad Wilson of Oxford; her great-grandson, Jayden Ty Whaley of Stovall; her sisters, twin sister Willie Mae Cutts of Stovall, Edwina Shotwell of Oxford, Sybil Newton of Stovall; her brothers, Jasper Shotwell and Paul Shotwell, both of Oxford.

Robert A. Vaughan
OXFORD -- Robert Allen Vaughan, 74, of 605-A Hillsboro St., died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Luther Martin and Nannie Pearl Cash Vaughan. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Murdoch Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church by the Rev. Cecil Newton. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Jones Vaughan of the home; three sisters, Annie Pearl Vaughan, Mary V. Hart, Betty V. Radford, all of Oxford; three brothers, Thomas Vaughan, Lawerence Vaughan, both of Oxford and J.W. Vaughan of Middleburg.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Betty Radford, 43 Church St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
