HENDERSON -- Deidtre Ora Blash, 29, of 1002 E. Andrews Ave., has died. She was the daughter of Sarah Drayton McGann and the late Alfred McGann.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Higher Faith Deliverance Cathedral by the Rev. Clarence Dale. Interment will be in the Russell RZUA Church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are four brothers, George McGann of Manhatten, N.Y., Dudley Blash and Donnell Blash, both of New York, and Dorian Blash of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the Garnes Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Mamie W. Hicks

NORLINA -- Mamie Weaver Hicks, 95, of Richmond, Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Ashland Convalescent Center in Ashland, Va. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Henry C. and Margaret Frazier Weaver. She was the widow of Edwin T. Hicks.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Warren Cash.
Surviving is one daughter, Mamie Clara Hicks TerAvest of Glen Allen, Va.
Memorials may be made to Warren Plains Baptist Church or to the Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Louise Taylor

HENDERSON -- Louise Taylor, 66, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in Guardian Care Nursing Care. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late William Henry and Nannie Bell Alexander Taylor.
She retired from Harriett-Henderson Yarn Company and also worked at Royal Home Fashion.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. J.H. Bryant, assisted by the Rev. Harry Williams. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are five sisters, Alice Hawley of Norfolk, Va., Emma Crews, Shirley Owens, Dorothy Turner, all of Henderson, and Florence Pierce of Patterson, N.J.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service, and other times at the residence of Shirley Owens, 708 Gordon St.
The body will be on view at 11 a.m. Saturday until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Funeral arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Margie Mason

HENDERSON -- Margie Mason, 98, of Guardian Care of Henderson, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.
Arrangements will be announced later by William Funeral Home.

Hilda E. Stone

KITTRELL -- Hilda Edwards Stone, age 75, a resident of 1155 Bobbitt Road, died Wednesday at Warren Hills Personal Care and Nursing Facility.
She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Clifton H. and Connie Wells Edwards. She was a retired accountant of Novo Nordisk, a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher of the Union Bible Class, and a former member of the United Methodist Women.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Hines. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Edward Stone, of the home; one daughter, Anna Louise S. Burton of Littleton, Colorado; two brothers, James C. Edwards of Henderson, and Thomas Edwards of Kittrell.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Charles Stone, Allen Stone, Doug Parrish, Nelson Blackwell, Durwood Wells, Gerald Wells, Ronnie Edwards and Cliff Edwards.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Thelma O. Wagner

MACON -- Thelma Overby Wagner, 85, formerly of Macon, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Clemmie Benton Overby and Ida Yancey Overby. She was the widow of Herman Overby.
She was a retired beautician and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rosewood Memorial Park in Hampton, Va., by the Rev. Rob Evans.
Surviving are two sisters, Lucille Aycock of Hampton and Eunice Hilliard of Macon.
Arrangements are being handled by Blaylock Funeral Home.

William E. Woodard

WARREN COUNTY -- William E. Woodard, 50, formerly of Warren County, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jordan Chapel Baptist Church in Franklin County. The Rev. James Barhm, pastor, and Dr. A.A. Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his two daughters, Carlette Sims of Baltimore, Md., and Kimberly Hargrove of Henderson; one son, Eric O. Hargrove of Henderson; three grandchildren; his mother, Carrie Richardson Woodard of Warrenton; two sisters, Carrie Alexander and Shirley Williams, both of Henderson; and four brothers, Clarence Richardson of East Orange, N.J., Thornton Woodard Jr. of Warrenton, Gerald and Paul Woodard, both of Henderson.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Edith B. Adams

HENDERSON -- Edith Breedlove Adams, 86, formerly of 425 Bobbott Street, Henderson, died Friday, December 8, 2000 in a local nursing home.
A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lizzie Holmes Breedlove. She was the widow of Raymond Alexander Adams.
Mrs. Adams was a retired secretary for Dr. S. Malone Parham. She was a member of City Road United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than fifty years, and sang in the choir for more than sixty years. Over the years, she held numerous offices, and served on many committees and boards at the church.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 3 p.m., at City Road United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Danielle Kirkland and Rev. Gary Allred. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are a daughter, Iris A. Williams, and husband, Warren, of Richmond, Virginia; two sons, Raymond, A. Adams, Jr., and wife, Linda, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Jimmy G. Adams, and wife, Aline, of Henderson; five grandchildren, Sherrie A. Geyer, and husband, Jeff, Valerie A. Rice, and husband, Richard, Donald R. Adams, and wife, Shawn, Edith A. Cantagallo, and husband, John, and Jimmy G. Adams, Jr., and wife, Jennie; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Jimmy and Aline Adams, 731 Lake View Drive, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Chewning, Gary Tillotson, Jay Adams, Donnie Adams, Wiley Norwood, Butch Pridgen, Howard Hughes, Robert Ayscue, and Paul Nowell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to City Road United Methodist Church, c/o Allene Brummitt, P.O. Box 1212, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

James C. Crabtree Jr.

HENDERSON -- James Cameron “Jimmy” Crabtree Jr., age 41, a resident of 1895 Spring Valley Road, died Thursday night from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late James Cameron and Edna Powell Crabtree.
He was a valued employee of Rose Oil Company where he had worked for 10 years as a retail store manager.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Gary Cameron.
He is survived by three sons, James Cameron Crabtree III, Collin Spenser Crabtree, and Morgan Grey Crabtree all of Raleigh; and one sister, Ann Crabtree Cameron of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the J.M. White Funeral Home, and at the home at 1895 Spring Valley Road on Sunday afternoon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vance County Relay For Life, c/o Tommy Crocker, 1721 Bobbitt Road, Kittrell, N.C. 27544, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Margie B. Mason

HENDERSON -- Margie Bryant Mason, 98, of Guardian Care, of Henderson, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000. She was a native of Vanceboro, the daughter of the late James and Mary Bryant and the widow of William Henry Mason.
She was a long-time member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where the funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. William J. Everett, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Sidney Dunston will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Mason Lewis of Larchmont, N.Y., and Thelma Henderson of Henderosn; one brother, Nathaniel Bryant of Vanceboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 1502 Hicksboro Road.
Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home of Henderson.

Eugene Peace

HENDERSON -- Eugene Peace, 86, of 318 Whitten Ave., died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Louise M. Ragland

HENDERSON -- Louise Marie Ragland, 67, of 960 Fred Royster Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in the Granville Medical Center. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Willie and Vallie Pope Mitchell Sr.
She was employed with Vance County Public Schools before retirement. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Richard Batts. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Vallie M. Jiggetts and Flora J. Dawson, both of Henderson; a son, Govan Ragland Jr. of Henderson; two sisters, Blanche M. Hill and Mary A. Fuller, both of Henderson; seven brothers, Vernon Mitchell Sr., Harold Mitchell Sr., Turner Mitchell Sr., Leroy Mitchell Sr., George Mitchell Sr., and John Mitchell Sr., all of Henderson, Jimmy Mitchell of Patterson, N.J.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cleveland Hawley, William Mitchell, Eugene Mitchell, Willie T. Fuller, Chester Martin, Aubrey Ricks, Tony Lawson and Leon Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Eula Scott

HENDERSON -- Eula Scott, 86, of 600 W. Andrews Ave., died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Willie J. Scott

HENDERSON -- Willie Gray Jackson Bowling Scott, 86, of 3104 Chestnut Road, Carrollton, Texas, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Prometheus and Annie Ball Jackson. She was the widow of Garland H. Bowling and Donald C. Scott.
She was a homemaker and a former member of Middleburg Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Middleburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Burial will follow in Middleburg cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Bowling White and Sandra Bowling Kiplinger, both of Carrollton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be David White, Jere White, Kenneth White, Kevin White, Keith Kiplinger, and Dale Poythress.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Jay S. Cline

BROAD CREEK -- Jay Setzer Cline, 69, of Broad Creek, formerly of Catawba County, died Saturday morning at his home.
He was the son of the late John A. Cline and Bonnie Setzer Cline.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Broad Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Banks officiating.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 16 in Newton and past commander of the American Legion in Henderson, member of Henderson Lodge 229 AF&AM, past president of Eastern Carolina Traffic Club and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sanford.
He is survived by his wife Joan Bignon Cline; son and daughter-in-law, John Jay Cline and Kim Horst Cline of Hickory; sister, Maxine Cline Rhinehardt of Newton; and grandchildren, Katie, John Jay Jr. and Kevin Cline, all of Hickory.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Masonic and Eastern Star Fund, c/o Henderson Lodge 229 AF&AM, Henderson, NC 27536.
Arrangements by Munden Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Morehead City.

Helen N. Dague

CREEDMOOR -- Helen Nevils Dague, 85, of Hillside Nursing Center in Wake Forest, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Raleigh Community Hospital. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Mary Veazey Washington.
She lived in Creedmoor for 45 years before moving to Palatka, Fla. She worked as a buyer and manager of lingerie at Baldwin’s Department Store and Montaldo’s in Durham for many years. She served as associate matron of the South Granville’s Benjamin Stanfield Chapter No. 46 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Creedmoor by the Rev. Donnie Brown. Burial will be in the Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Thomas Nevils Jr., of Raleigh; a sister, Billie Garner of Durham; a brother, Harold Washington of Creedmoor; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Grace S. Jenkins

WILTON -- Grace Sadler Jenkins, 86, a former resident of the Wilton community, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late Luther C. and Tiney Haithcock Sadler and the widow of Irvin L. Jenkins.
She was a member of Banks United Methodist Church, a long time Sunday school teacher, president of the Wilton School PTA and an active member in the Wilton community for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Banks United Methodist Church by the Revs. Diane M.C. Blanchard and Ray Gooch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Leigh J. Barnard of Chapel Hill, Sue Jean J. Luger of Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Gathon Sadler of Creedmoor, J. Waverly Sadler of Henderson; a sister, Evelyn Thompson of Greensboro; and one granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Jenkins Memorial Fund, Banks United Methodist Church, c/o Jean Watkins, 3608 Brassfield Road, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

Ronald D. Morris

HENDERSON -- Mr. Ronald Dwight (Ron) Morris, age 58, of Henderson, N.C., husband of Mrs. Alvie Jean Morris, died in Maryland Sunday morning, December 3, 2000.
Mr. Morris was born Sept. 2, 1942 in Evansville, Ind. to the late Charles Marvin Morris and Ruth Mary Ruxer Morris Hawkins.
Mr. Morris was employed at Vance County Jail as captain and was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam era.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alvie Jean Branson Morris of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal Ann and Patrick Marshall, Stokesdale, N.C.; three grandchildren, Ashley Rene’ Marshall, Amber Jeanette Marshall and Alex Dwight Marshall, all of Stokesdale, N.C.; a half sister, Janet Nichols; and a half brother, Dennis Hawkins of Fort Worth, TX.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel and will be conducted by Rev. Estel Cook. Burial will follow in The Crooked Oak Moravian Church cemetery with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard 11th District Post 2019.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 176, Hillsville, VA. 24343.
