NORLINA -- Tiny Swanson Salmon, of Rt. 1, Norlina, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in South Hill Memorial Healthcenter.
She was a member of the Wise Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton. The Rev. Kenneth Bunch will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery in Warrenton.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Surviving are four daughters, Katie Little of Concord, Tina Vaughan of Wilson, Carmelita S. Pendergrass of Henderson and Elizabeth Sue Andersen of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, James Paschall of Troy, Mo., and Thomas Salmon of Norlina; one sister, Jean Wall of Norlina; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Louise Taylor

HENDERSON -- Louise Taylor, 66, a native of Henderson, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Guardian Care Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Shirley Owens, 708 Gordon St.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Staff Sgt. Cleonis O. White

FAYETTEVILLE -- Staff Sergeant Cleonis O. White, 50, of Fayetteville, formerly of Warrenton, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Manson. Dr. Richard M. Henderson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis F. White; two sons, Staff Sergeant Marvin S. Foreman Sr., of Germany and Michael O. White of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; eight sisters, Lizzie Daves, Loretta Hargrove, Zaida White, all of Manson, Otelia Williams and Cornelia Davis, both of Richmond, Va., Argatha Vass and Lillian Green, both of Henderson, and Evangelist Marinda Alston of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five brothers, Albert M. White Jr., of Charlotte, Robert L. White and Clarence White, both of Manson, Alexander White Sr., of Henderson, and Lieutenant Peter White III of Fayetteville.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services.

Albert B. Bradsher Jr.

CREEDMOOR -- Albert B. Bradsher Jr., 69, of Church Street, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Albert B. Bradsher Sr. and Ruby West Bradsher.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Creedmoor and was retired from N.C. Mutual Drug Company.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Don Brown. Burial will be in Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are four sisters, Betsy A. Armando of Goldsboro, Ann B. Dixon and Mary B. Chappell, both of Creedmoor, and Rose B. Ellis of Sanford; two brothers, Lee Sullivan of Robbins and Sam Bradsher of Raleigh.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral services at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Bernice B. Harris

WASHINGTON -- Bernice B. Harris, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly, Md.
Arrangements will be announced later by Brown’s Funeral Services Inc.

Floyd W. Newton

OXFORD -- Floyd Waylon Newton, 67, of 202 East Dale Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Roger A. and Virgie Tuck Newton.
He was of the Baptist faith and was an auto mechanic.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Greg Allison. Burial will be in Knotts Grove cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Matthews Newton of the home; a daughter, Jayne N. Elliott of Oxford; two sons, Jerry Newton of Timberlake, Robert “Bobby” Newton of Henderson; six sisters, Macie McGarr of Creedmoor, Mattie McGarr, Lena Grady, Mildred Elliott and Ruby Wright, all of Oxford, and Louise Burney of High Point; a brother, Paul Newton of Durham; and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at 7141 Hwy. 15.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

John Parham

WARRENTON -- John Parham, 67, of the Inez community, Warrenton, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Eugene Peace

HENDERSON -- Eugene Peace, 88, of 318 Whitten Ave., died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his residence. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Sarah “Sally” Parham Peace and Dexter Peace. He was the widower of the late Ruth Fields Peace.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1942 until 1945. He was employed with Henderson Grocery until his retirement.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kittrell where the funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday by the Revs. James Fogg and Clarence Dale. Burial will follow in the Jesse Kittrell Memorial cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Rebecca Nwude, Bettie Dawson, Sallie Graves and Josephine Peace; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers and floralbearers will be friends of the family.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Quinnon Ellis

OXFORD -- Quinnon Ellis “Bo” Wilson, 65, of 7052 Huntsboro Road, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at his residence. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Broughton and Ruth Ellis Wilson.
He was a retired tobacco farmer and a member of Dexter Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Dexter Baptist Church by the Rev. Neil Woodlief. Entombment will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Emmie Lou Currin Wilson of the home; one son, Cecil Q. Wilson of Charlotte; and two granddaughters.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Dexter Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund, 4549 Chewing Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation for the family was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

John W. Phillips

HENDERSON -- The Rev. John William Phillips, 74, of 1517 Oakdale Circle, died Saturday evening, December 9, 2000, in Maria Parham Hospital after being ill with a serious heart condition for several months.
Rev. Phillips was born in Raleigh, N. C., on December 29, 1925, to Edgar Eugene Phillips and Emma McLean Phillips.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for the Men’s Fellowship Class. During World War II, Rev. Phillips served in the U. S. Navy. Following the war, he graduated summa cum laude from Campbell College and from Wake Forest University, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was also a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Andover-Newton Theological School, and Hartford Theological School of Missions.
In the late 1950’s Rev. Phillips served as a missionary in India. He was an active Baptist Minister for 55 years. He served as pastor or interim paster of churches in New England, Saxapahaw and Reidsville, N. C., and in Vance and surrounding counties.
Rev. Phillips was also a retired teacher, having taught in the Vance County Public Schools for 22 years.
The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark at the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Rev. Phillips is survived by Lily Murray Mobley Phillips, his wife of 52 years; by a daughter, Lisa Phillips Finch and her husband, R. Kim Finch of Henderson; a son, Jonathan William Phillips and his wife Larn-Huar Phillips of Wake Forest; one grandson, Thomas Finch and one granddaughter, Emma Finch both of Henderson; one brother, Horace W. Phillips and one sister, Frances P. Randolph, both of Raleigh.
Pallbearers will be: Nelson Blackwell, Tom Justice, Dr. Franklin Mills, John Norwood, Dr. M. W. Wester, Jr. and George Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 Monday night at the J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Oakdale Circle.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church P. O. Box 75 Henderson N. C, 27536 or the America Heart Association c/o Doug Byrom Centura Bank P. O. Draw 1069 Henderson NC 27536.
J. M. White Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Cinda Smiley

HENDERSON -- Cinda Smiley, age 53, a resident of 620 Stewart Farm Road, died Monday night at Maria Parham Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the J. M. White Funeral Home.

Dazelle Williams

HENDERSON -- Dazelle Williams, 88, of 309 Arch St., died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Ira L. Caudle

WARREN COUNTY -- Ira Lee “Duty” Caudle, 72, formerly of Warren County, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in Maryland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at Shocco Chapel Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Bullock Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Willie Gray Davis and Mattie Rea Richardson, both of Warrenton; and one brother, William T. Caudle Sr. of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Larry Cearnel Jr.

CREEDMOOR -- Larry Cearnel Jr., 55, of 1194 Beaver Dam Road, Creedmoor, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at his home. He was an Orange County native.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Betts Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. James Daniel. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Laverne Cearnel of the home; one daughter, Michelle Atkins of Stem; his mother, Velma Mary Ruth Bealey of Mebane; two brothers, Bill Corbitt of Mass, Ga., and Henry Corbitt of Mebane; six sisters, Betty Rogers of Cedar Grove, Mary Corbitt and Geardine Corbitt, both of Hillsborough, Bertha Corbitt of Efland and Maude Beasley of Butner; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Bernice B. Harris

WASHINGTON -- Bernice B. Harris, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly, Md. She was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and the daughter of the late Junious and Laura Burton Burchett.
At the age of five, her family moved to North Carolina. In 1931, she married John H. Harris and, after making their home in Washington, D.C., he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1988.
For many years, she was employed by Woodward & Lothrup Department Store in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 15th St. in Washington, D.C.
Local graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday by her nephew, the Rev. Donald Harris, in the Harris Family cemetery in the Oine community of Warren County.
The body will arrive in Warrenton on Friday evening. There will be no viewing at the cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by Brown’s Funeral Services of Warrenton and the John T. Rhines Company of Washington, D.C.

Albert D. Jones Sr.

OXFORD -- Albert Dean Jones Sr., 84, of 210 Delacroix St., died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Nathaniel J. and Lucinda Frazier Jones. His first wife, Lora Helen Garrett Jones died in 1986.
He was a member of Enon Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Oxford Oil Company.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Revs. James Shelley and Carolyn Sims. Burial will be in Enon Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Rachel Newton Jones of the home; two sons, Albert D. Jones Jr. of Raleigh, Robert “Bobby” Jones of Talladega, Ala.; a stepson, Clifton D. Brummitt of Oxford; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Eula B. Scott

HENDERSON -- Eula Branch Scott, 86, of 600 W. Andrews Ave., died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at her residence. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Lucious and Henrietta Mills Branch. She was the widow of Vernon Scott.
She was educated in the Franklin County and Vance County Public Schools System.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Middleburg where the funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday by Dr. A.A. Brown. Burial will follow in the Middleburg cemetery.
Surviving are six daughters, Amanda Pearl Mitchell, Sophie Andrews, Louise Henry, Henrietta Fuller, Doris Andrews and Susie Hedgepeth; 25 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Harold T. Short

HENDERSON -- Harold Taylor Short, age 61, a resident of 105 Park Avenue in Creedmoor, and a former resident of Rt. 2, Warrenton in the Afton Community, died Tuesday night at the Park Avenue Group Home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late John B. and Madolia Abbott Short. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a former employee of Inco and the Creedmoor Candle Shop, and was a member of Brown’s Baptist Church in Warren County.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Buddy Johnson. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
He is survived by three sisters, Helen S. Cartaker of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Clara Barker of Henderson and Alma S. Short of Warrenton; two brothers, Williard P. Short of Warrenton, and Luther Short of Reidsville.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Alma Short, Rt. 2, Box 92, Warrenton in the Afton Community.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Dwight Short, Wayne Short, Ronald Neal, Charlie Barker, Thurston Barker, Walter Neal, and Wesley Harris.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Corey Baker

WARRENTON -- Corey Baker, 18, of Patterson, N.J., died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in Orangeburg, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Green Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis G. Lindsay, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Vivian Baker of Norcross, Ga.; his father, Earnest Baker of Patterson, N.J.; one sister, Yolanda C. Baker of Norcross, Ga.; one brother, Earnest M. Baker of Patterson, N.J.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.
