HENDERSON -- Alpesta Davis, 51, a native of Henderson, died in New Hyde Park, N.Y.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Leola Drayton

HENDERSON -- Leola Drayton, 74, of 186 Big Buck Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Estel, S.C., and the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Solomon Drayton.
She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Revs. Rosa Paschall and James Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two children, Valencia Marrow of the home and Randolph Drayton of Durham; one sister, Rosana Talley of Henderson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers and floralbearers will be friends of the family.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Thomas Durham

HENDERSON -- Thomas Durham, 67, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Guardian Care Nursing Care. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Mary Durham Bullock.
He lived in the Townsville community and was a farmer and construction worker for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Big Ruin Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Clyde B. Walton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca T. Durham of Henderson; three daughters, Glennie Durham, Dithers Durham, Gloria Crute, all of Henderson; four sons, David Durham, Larry Durham, Jerry Durham, and Richard Durham, all of Henderson; one brother, Jessie Durham of Henderson; six sisters, Carolyn Williams of New Jersey, Thelma Evans, Margaret Gregory, Beatrice Eaton, Florence Williams, Eliza Jones, all of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the residence of Dithere Durham, 830 Dick Faines Road in the Williamsboro community.
The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

William H. Hester

WAKE FOREST -- William Howard Hester, age 79, a resident of Carolina House Of Wake Forest, and a former resident of Creedmoor, died Friday morning at Carolina House.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Furney Green Hester, Sr. and Maggie Griffis Hester. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army, and was retired from Murdock Center in Butner where he was a Nurse’s Assistant.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Flat Rock United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Pam Gilliam.
He is survived by one sister, Blanche H. Edwards, of Henderson; two brothers, Furney G. Hester, Jr. of Henderson and Peter D. Hester of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flat Rock United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Peggy Wyche, 1895 Satterwhite Point Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Mabel H. Houser

HENDERSON -- Mabel Hoyle Houser, 93, formerly of Henderson and Washington, D.C., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in North Carolina Special Care Center in Wilson. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Arthur H. and Nellie Milne Hoyle. She was the widow of Walter Houser.
She was trained in sign language and enjoyed ministering to the hearing-impaired. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Carey Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Carey Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jay Jarrell.
Surviving are three sisters, Gladys H. Duncan of Australia, Alice H. Edwards of Henderson and Ruth H. Hobgood of Smithfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, c/o Carey Baptist Church, 1295 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Mattie Lemay

HENDERSON -- Mattie Belle Edwards Lemay, 73, of 2634 Raleigh Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Howard and Bulah Wortham Edwards.
At an early age, she joined Welcome Chapel Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the Sunday school for many years, a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board and Missionary Circle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Red Bud Baptist Church by the Rev. Saint J. Silver, assisted by the Rev. John E. Hall, pastor.
Surviving are two daughters, Vivian LeMay Bullock and Brenda LeVern LeMay, both of Henderson; two brothers, CW5 Chief Warren Officer Alexander LeMay of Junction City, Kansas, Anthony LeMay of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will recieve friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Welcome Chapel Baptist Church and other times at the residence, 2634 Raleigh Road.
The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Ernest T. Ridley

OXFORD -- Ernest Thomas Ridley, of 1009 Raleigh St., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Durham Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Clarence Rose

WARRENTON -- Clarence Rose, 60, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Moore H. Bynum will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Clementine Rose of the home; two daughters, LaWanda Hicks of Durham and Sharon D. Henderson of Drewry; three sons, Antonious D. Rose Sr., Dervin D. Rose Sr., and Calvin L. Rose, all of Warrenton; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Dorothy Pitchford of Warrenton.
The body will be on view today at the Boyd’s Funeral Services until taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Maxine W. Taylor

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Maxine Waters Taylor, 69, of 3215 Hwy. 55 East, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Sun Bridge Rehabilitation Center, Mount Olive. She was a Duplin County native and the daughter of the late B.P. and Mary Louise Stroud Waters. She was the widow of Raeford Taylor.
She was a devoted member of Seven Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seven Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating. Burial will follow in Daly’s Chapel cemetery, Liddell.
Surviving are two sons, Max Alvin Waters and Dudley Ray Cole of Albertson; two daughters, Mary Nadine Paul of Rocky Mount and Patricia Ann Padgett of Henderson; two sisters, Mary Louise Stroud of Kinston and Mildred Banks of New Bern; one brother, John K. Waters of Pollocksville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Seven Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 55, Seven Springs, N.C. 28578.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rouse Funeral Home and other times at the home of Dudley Cole, 886 Woodland Church Road, Albertson.
Arrangements are by Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.

Lucy Currie

NORLINA -- Lucy Anne Williams Currie, 71, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at her home in Norlina. She was the daughter of Robert and Lena White Williams and the widow of the Rev. Tom Currie.
She was a bookkeeper for General Box Co., and a member of Inez Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Inez Baptist Church by the Rev. Mac Hutton. Burial will follow in Warren Dale cemetery in Norlina.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton and other times at the home, 408 Division St. in Norlina.
Surviving are three sons, Tom Currie of Weaverville, Bob Currie of Raleigh and George Currie of Wilson; three daughters, Gayle Lauten of Kearnersville, Pam Grissom of Henderson and Susan Winstead of Wilmington; and eight grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home.

Zelma B. Jackson

HENDERSON -- Zelma Breedlove Jackson, 101, of 429 Dabney Drive, Henderson, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late William Claudius and Rodella Hall Breedlove. She was the widow of Luther Albert Jackson Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Joe Jones. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Alice J. Tucker and Jane J. Parrott, both of Henderson, and Josephine J. Rowland of Kittrell; a son, Luther A. “L.A.” Jackson Jr., of Henderson; four sisters, Lucille B. Floyd and Beth B. Vaughan, both of Henderson, Mary Louise Cash of Oxford, and Naomi B. Clayton of Kittrell; a brother, Douglas Breedlove of Oxford; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 429 Dabney Drive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Harold Tucker Jr., David Tucker, Dean Parrot, Robert Rowland, Albert Rowland, Joe Rowland, Shields Tucker, Ben Knott, Steve Tharrington, Scott Brame, and Michael Worden, all grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Sarah L. Moorefield

HENDERSON -- Sarah Leonard Moorefield, age 76, a resident of 1210 Hargrove Street, died Saturday morning at Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a native of Wake County and was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Mary Crowder Leonard, and the widow of James E. Moorefield. She was retired from Harriett & Henderson Yarns, and was a Charter Member of the South Henderson Church Of God where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She also sang with the former Radio Prayer Group on the local Radio Station.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the South Henderson Church Of God by the Rev. Gary Harper and the Rev. Aaron Leonard. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Crystal M. Frigoletti, of Henderson; one brother, Raymond Leonard, of Henderson; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Serving as active pallbearers will be C.W. West, Rodney Inscoe, James Nelson Roberson, Harvey Harris, Jr., Frank Leonard, Ernest Vaughan, Jamie Lassiter, Robert Moorefield, Sr., Robert Moorefield, Jr., and Bill Weaver.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ronald Roberts, 124 Edgewood Drive, Henderson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the South Henderson Church Of God, 125 J. P. Taylor Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements will be handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Virginia Coghill Richardson

HENDERSON -- Virginia Coghill Richardson, age 79, a resident of 12004 N.C. Highway 39 North, died Saturday morning in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Charles Fredrick Coghill, Sr. and Nannie Belle Twisdale Coghill. She was the widow of Kenneth Howard Richardson, and a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Townsville.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery in Townsville by the Rev. Joyce Day and Chaplain Ann Ritter.
She is survived by one daughter, Joan “J.B.” Moody of Henderson; one son, Fredrick Howard Richardson, of Townsville; one brother, Charles Fredrick “Fred” Coghill, Jr., of Henderson; one sister, Doris C. Matthews, of Townsville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Charles and J. B. Moody at 708 Moody Road, Henderson.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to: Friends of Hospice; P.O. Box 2596; Henderson, N.C., 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
